Democrats will remove QAnon Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from committees

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, aka QAnon Karen, is from an overwhelmingly white district in Georgia. She ran unopposed in the general election, but there was a heated primary, where some of her QAnon-conspiracy interests came to light. At the time, the Georgia GOP and the national party just kind of shrugged their shoulders. I guess there was an assumption that they couldn’t do much about it if Georgia voters wanted the ridiculous Jewish Space Lasers woman to represent them. The fact that she threatens and harasses victims of school shootings is probably a big bonus for the party. Now that she’s in the House and she’s likely planning to murder Democrats in person, suddenly there’s a big problem. I mean, the national Republican Party still isn’t doing anything about her. But House Democrats are going to try to at least block her from committees:

Top House Democrats are moving to force Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene off multiple committees this week — with or without Kevin McCarthy’s help. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer delivered an ultimatum to McCarthy on Monday: Either Republicans move on their own to strip Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee assignments within 72 hours, or Democrats will bring the issue to the House floor.

The Democrats’ move, while highly unusual, comes amid intense fury within the Democratic Caucus over Greene’s long record of incendiary rhetoric, including peddling conspiracy theories that the nation’s deadliest mass shootings were staged. Greene also endorsed violence against Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats before she was elected to Congress. Last week, Greene was officially awarded seats on the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Budget Committee.

Republicans, meanwhile, have been slow to act, with McCarthy saying only he’s planning to have a “conversation” with Greene about the mounting controversies sometime this week. The meeting between McCarthy and Greene has still not been scheduled, but could take place as early as Tuesday evening. And Greene has shown zero contrition for her past actions, tweeting over the weekend that she will “never apologize.” She also took a jab at Hoyer on Twitter Monday and revealed plans to travel to Florida “soon” to meet with former President Donald Trump, who she said supports her “100 percent.”

Democrats are already teeing up potential floor action if McCarthy doesn’t act, scheduling a Rules Committee hearing for Wednesday afternoon on a resolution to strip Greene of her committee posts.

Some Republicans are privately warning of a dangerous new precedent if Democrats make a determination about who from the minority party is best fit to serve on committees, opening up the potential for a tit-for-tat between the two parties — especially if Republicans win back the House in two years. But while Democrats privately acknowledge their action is controversial, they say Greene’s behavior and rhetoric must be addressed forcefully.

[From Politico]

Politico goes on to quote some Dems in House leadership who say that other options are on the table beyond removing Greene from committees – she could be censured or even expelled, although those moves would probably be a lot harder. The whole thing about House Republicans “privately warning of a dangerous new precedent” if Democrats remove an absolutely violent, threatening, crazy person from her committee positions is… not the threat they think it is. Greene is a danger to herself and others. She’s actively plotting to hurt people and incite further violence at the Capitol. If anything, Democrats are protecting weak, spineless Republicans from themselves.

Last Friday, we also learned that Rep. Cori Bush had to move her House office to get away from Greene after Greene (who was maskless) threatened her and her staff.

The Trump mask around the chin needs to be the new textbook depiction of this era.

This bitch thinks her “Fox News Barbie” look protects her. She can say outrageous things and no one will take her seriously because, after all, she’s just a “silly little woman.”

There were a hell of a lot of women at that insurrection. Women brought picnic lunches to lynchings. Women beat prisoners in Nazu death camps. Women nuns slaughtered Tutsis in Rwanda. We have got to get over the idea of the woman as a “delicate creature.” Women are just as capable of doing evil as men, especially when they decide to prostrate themselves in front of the altar of patriarchy.

I know in my own life, I have basically assumed that a fellow woman is more likely to be a friend than an enemy. This is a very naive thought on my part. There are a lot of woman out there who would gladly watch any woman who doesn’t follow whatever crazy they follow die in agony. I’ve been lurking on the Qanon casualties subreddit (after losing my childhood best friend to Trumpism and likely, Qanon as well), and it’s shocking to me how many of the stories are about Qanon mothers and daughters. These are people who wanted to see mass executions and a military takeover on January 20th.

You speak the plain truth. Women from both parties must agree to rid this dangerously delusional white nationalist from politics.

      • Dean says:

Exuse me but I thought that was up to the voters. This woman is a legitimately elected member of the House of Representatives it’s not up to the Democrats to replace her or try to get rid of her or try to deny her committee assignments so that she can’t represent her district… and it’s funny how liberals have absolutely no problem with people of color who are black and brown nationalists black and brown supremacists like Ilan Omar and AOC they have no problem with those people.

      • Juniper says:

Dean, go back to Parler. Oh wait, you can’t!

    • Jessica says:

      +1 x 100

    • Sojaschnitzel says:

No lies detected. It’s a very heavy pill to swallow, but sadly it’s true.
I don’t understand any of these people, regardless of gender.

  3. Justjj says:

Idk how the GOP comes back from this? How do you defend these loons? How do you live with yourself when you’re “slow to act” in the removal of a Sandy Hook denier? The whole party is a sideshow. They’re all so exhausting and awful.

    • Esmom says:

Exhausting indeed, as they embody everything we try to teach our kids not to do or be. Everything. The world has gone completely bonkers, thanks to the campaign against truth that Trump and the Republicans have waged for way, way too long.

      • Mac says:

The Republican party no longer believes in democracy. McCarthy is not going to silence Greene because she is the face of the party. Q nut jobs don’t care how many tax cuts Republicans pass or how much corporate welfare they hand out. They just need to be reassured the deep state is real and Republicans are the only ones who can stop it.

    • Jensies says:

Well you know, she took the time to check David Hogg’s age before she harassed him, to make sure he was over 18 and an adult. So she’s actually very thoughtful and responsible.

She’s legit crazy and I don’t use that word.

      • MyOpinion says:

@ Jensies, she is cray cray, but given that she is now a member of Congress, she has to be limited in her ability to cause further damage. The fact that she proudly harassed Hogg publicly and felt that she had the right to do so, makes her much more dangerous. She needs to be removed as she is a threat to all members of the Democratic and Libertarian members.

      • LightPurple says:

Except Hogg’s sister Lauren, who is only 17 now, was with him in that group when MTG went after him. Lauren has tweeted about how terrifying she found this crazed woman chasing them while shouting about how she had a gun in her bag.

      • Jensies says:

@myopinion and @lightpurple oh I 100% agree with all this. She shouldn’t in Congress, she’s an extremely dangerous person. Just the thought that she thought it was fine to harass this *child who had been through a school shooting* because he hit 18 was mind-blowing to me.

    • Sumodo1 says:

GOP Congress members: where is your fury about white nationalists storming into the Capitol to kill Mike Pence. If you are going to condemn THAT, why are you not condemning those assholes intent on killing Nancy Pelosi and AOC? Are you NOT HUMAN?

    • Sumodo1 says:

It’s truth. The GOP needs to wake up from its Trump fog and be human again.

  4. Esmom says:

I’ll add that I read with horror yesterday about how she and her extremely well-financed campaign and her rabid supporters basically terrorized her Democratic challenger and ruined his life, forcing him to drop out of the race. I was heartbroken on his behalf and am just numb that more Republicans are not denouncing her. She’s a troll and a punk and has zero business holding public office.

  5. Jensies says:

Dare I hope, on the day it comes out that AOC said to Katie Porter, “I hope I get to be a mom, I hope I don’t die today”, when she was in fear of her life during the coup, dare I hope that the Democrats actually take action and do something to counteract and protect their members from this cult of a party?

  6. MyOpinion says:

Greene has openly called for the killing of Democrats and if memory serves me, she was accused of carrying a gun into the Capitol. She is a threat to the safety of members of Congress, especially Democrats. This woman should be banned from serving and recuse herself, which I know she won’t do. She is a danger to moving forward, tying herself with Agent Orange and RepubliCANT’S could care less. Moscow Mitch is still pissed about the filibuster.
Greene was reported to have spoken with the mother whose son, a teacher that sheltered students in the Florida mass shouting when he was killed, told the mother that she does acknowledge that the shooting happened, even though she publicly denies it took place in adding to Sandy Hook, but she stated to the grieving mother that she could never publicly state that she knows that it happened.
Greene is using the unending lies of Q lies and denials of these tragic events to assure Agent Orange supporters. Greene is an extension of Agent Orange and his lies and furthering the far right conspiracies.

    • LightPurple says:

Linda Schulman, mother of teacher Scott Beigel, is the Parkland mother MTG spoke to yesterday. Schulman’s the Parkland parent who also confronted that monster Dana Loesch shortly after the shooting. Linda Schulman is fierce and doesn’t back down. More power to her.

  7. LightPurple says:

As deplorable as this awful woman is, she is merely a distraction from the bigger evil that is GOP House leadership. Kevin McCarthy has not stripped her of her committee assignments because neither he or Steve Scalise have any problems with what she is doing and they are happy to hide behind her while they, Jim Jordan, Mo Brooks, and others work from with in to destroy our republic. If the news is focused on MTG, Madison Cawthonr, Matt Gaetz, and Lauren Boebert, it is ignoring what McCarthy and his crew are doing with legislation.

    • Betsy says:

      THIS.

I don’t want to say she isn’t deserving of the spotlight of scorn, but not at the expense of the rest of the American Fascist Party. They are all totally okay with everything she says because they all agre.

  8. Lizzie says:

If she threatened congressmen/women can they not get a restraining order? That should keep her outside of the Capitol Bldg.

  9. Beth says:

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Democratic challenger dropped out of the race and left the state:

Kevin Van Ausdal announced Friday he’s ending his longshot bid to represent the solidly red 14th congressional district for “family and personal reasons.” He said he’ll be leaving Georgia and therefore disqualified from serving in Congress. It was unclear what Van Ausdal’s next steps would be.

  10. LouLou says:

One of the mothers of a young man killed at Parkland was on MSNBC talking with Rachel Maddow about how MJT talked with her privately and admitted that she did not actually believe that the Parkland shooting was faked. That mother asked her to go on camera and share that, but she refused. So, this is just a grift. She’s getting a lot of attention and donations, which she learned from the original grifter–Sarah Palin.

    • LouLou says:

Oops, sorry, it was not the Rachel Maddow show. It was another pundit, and I don’t remember her name.

    • Traveler says:

I saw that too. It confirmed what I’ve suspected.
They know exactly what they’re doing. They KNOW they are spreading lies. By giving their base permission to be their worst selves they are given cult-like loyalty in return. It’s a tactical move. They are not confident of winning elections any other way.
The fact that it even has to be debated that she is unfit to serve is what’s really mind-blowing (this goes for all the rest – we know who they are).

    • schmootc says:

It’s like the both-sides scheming of the Conways. There’s a sucker born every minute and these people are out to fleece them.

  11. Ariel says:

If you know anyone from that district in Georgia, you should shame them for not voting against her. Make it really personal.
    This is their representative.
Of course, Scalise is from my state- not my district, and he is an embarrassment to the human race, as well as both senators from Louisiana.

  12. jferber says:

YES! This terrorist bitch needs to be kicked out of Congress. Do your jobs, Republicans!

  13. Courtney B says:

In 2019 the GOP moved (albeit after too many years of his BS) to remove Steve king from his committee posts after his incendiary comments about white supremacy. and he was defeated in his 2020 primary because of a lack of funding and support. Shows how far they’ve moved to the crazy wing in less than 2 years. Instead of the King example being a sign that they wouldn’t tolerate this kind of speech anymore it turned out he was just an aberration.

  14. Willow says:

So the 10 GOP House Reps who voted to impeach Trump are getting pummeled back in their own states by local and state GOP parties. People are vowing to never support them again, they are getting censured by the parties, saying the Reps, didn’t do their job, because they didn’t do what the people who voted for them wanted them to do, which is support Trump 100%. It’s insane. Even if enough GOP reps and Senators get together at the National level to go against this awful woman and Trump, many of them will not get reelected because their own local republican party won’t support them. It’s like the GOP has cancer and it just found out it’s stage 4. I don’t know how they will survive this. But they brought it on themselves.
