Michael B. Jordan went all out for girlfriend Lori Harvey for Valentine’s Day

A few years back, there was a lot of talk on social media about Michael B. Jordan’s love life. The gossip was all over the place – people claimed that he was never getting serious with anyone, that he was a player, that he… only dated white women. So it’s weird that there’s now all of this angst about his relationship with Lori Harvey. He’s super-serious about her, he treats her like a princess, and he seems all-in and ready to lock this down. How the times change, huh. Lori and MBJ began dating last year, and they became Instagram official back in January. No surprise, MBJ went ALL OUT for Valentine’s Day. He rented out an aquarium, spent a fortune on roses and rose petals, had takeout from Nobu and he gave her expensive jewelry. Ladies… I cannot.

Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey marked their first Valentine’s Day together with an under-the-sea celebration. Harvey, 24, gave fans a look at her romantic date with Jordan, 34, on her Instagram Story Monday, revealing that the actor rented out an aquarium just for them — and surprised the model with dinner in one of the underwater tunnels.

“My baby rented one the aquarium so we could do a private tour and see the turtles and then we walked into this,” Harvey wrote, sharing a video of the tunnel adorned with flower petals and candles. In another video, Harvey showed the elaborate dinner spread, which included massive bouquets of roses, more candles, and a meal from luxury Japanese eatery Nobu. Harvey also showed off a stuffed turtle — representing Jordan’s nickname for her.

“And he had Nobu cook dinner for us,” Harvey added, sharing a video of the night’s menu. The couple’s night ended in a hotel room that was covered in more huge flower bouquets, candles and complete with red rose petals on the bed and around a bubble bath. “And then this,” Harvey wrote.

[From People]

I’m including some of her IG Stories below – the excessiveness is kind of off-putting and the sheer volume of roses and rose petals would be the thing I would focus on (stupidly) if I was on this date. That being said, who amongst us would say no to this? A beautiful man showering you with gifts and romance and a turtle-shaped diamond bracelet? Come on.

  1. Stacy Dresden says:

Wow. Young love with Michael B Jordan

  2. Lauren says:

    Yep. She won.

  3. Oh_Hey says:

Good for her. I remember a while back everyone was talking wild smack about Lori Harvey and now she’s out here living her best life.

    • waitwhat says:

Because she dated a guy and then when that ended she dated his dad? And she was charged for a hit and run? She was pretty publicly messy so I’m not surprised people were talking smack.

  4. farah says:

His dating history and colorist comments made him a huge turn off among black women, which is kind of an important demographic for a Black actor to have. Denzel was famously protective of this, he went so far to refuse to kiss Julia Roberts in movie because he didn’t want to upset his fan base.

I don’t know whether or not this is a real couple but the decision to be so public about it (far more than any of his previous relationship) does feel deliberate.

    • Nonartistic Diane says:

Yes. That’s the vibe I get too. Very deliberately public for him, but if they are truly together and living their best lives more power to them.

    • Bren says:

Yes, it does feel deliberate. Time will tell if they are real or not, but I will always be here for a black man treating a black woman with high esteem publicly.

    • Yup, Me says:

Agreed. But I do love the behind the scenes business of showmances. I find them fascinating and I think I’d personally be more interested in “dating” an actor for a showmance (with a clear contract and expectations and agreements) than to ever attempt to actually date/ fall in love with one.

    • Meg says:

Yes the excessive gifts and extra public-ness of this telling everyone about the details feels fake to me, do one or the other but both just screams fake to me

      • Sarah says:

Thissssssssssssssssssss!!! For the most part MBJ has always been pretty discrete with whomever he’s dating and I don’t know him personally so for all I know he could be madly in love and want to shout it to the world.

I don’t follow Lori Harvey so I have no idea if she ever showcased anyone that she’s ever dated or it was just the blogs talking but something about this seems off. I hope this is real and I wish them the best and truly love that he pulled out all of the stops but I’m getting a toothache from the High-fructose corn syrup.

I contrast this with Ludacris and his wife Eudoxie, he did something similar to this for Valentine’s Day and I was all in but I’ve seen so many instances of him displaying his love that it’s easy for me to believe it so time will tell maybe my toothache when watching these two will dull down.

    • tsk says:

Ha! I knew this was fishy for some reason. I think you hit the nail on the head.

I’d rather have a Black man actually respect Black women than just pretend to for clout or for a fanbase.I don’t care the color of the woman he dates.

Didn’t Denzel cheat on his wife? Like… that’s the kind of disrespect I’m talking about. I couldn’t care less who he kisses on screen. He can kiss Chiwetel Ejiofor or Clive Owen (watching Inside Man rn lol) for all I care as long as he respects and cherishes Black women irl.

  5. Snuffles says:

I don’t know if this relationship was negotiated and for publicity, but they could be a power couple if they want to. He might be ready to settle down. They would have GORGEOUS kids!

    • SarahCS says:

I have no idea what is actually going on here but I would love it if they did are totally into each other and did become a power couple. I love a happy story and you’re right about their kids. We’ll have to wait and see.

    • tsk says:

It’d be pretty sad for a young and free 24 young woman to settle down that early. And I know I am baiting the usual “I married my 40 yo husband when I was 15 and we’re doing GREAT” crew to show up in the replies, but… it’s the truth.

Enjoy youth while you’ve got it. I am 23 and it pains me to see ppl my age wanting to do that stuff too soon. We have time for marriage and kids, if we want them, let things flow.

  6. Midge says:

She is 24. That is all.

    • osito says:

Yeah, this. Honestly, I’m all for them dating — she’s an adult and they seem into each other — but I really hope for her sake that they’re taking it slow and that he supports her if she wants to be independent. I do side-eye relationships with these kinds of gaps because of how unhealthy they were for *me* in my late teens/early 20s. So, while I root for their love story, I’m really just eternally rooting for Lori Harvey’s personal growth. MJB has had his time to mess around and be young and free. I don’t think Lori’s had that, and if *Steve* Harvey is any indication, she wasn’t really given that option.

  7. Livethelifeaquatic says:

Maybe it’s just me and I’m old fashion, but I would never date somebody who had to spend part of our evening out on their phone showing the world what we were doing.

    • lemonylips says:

yes me too. also i find all of it tacky. but hey, everyone has their own taste so… they are both pretty though.

    • BK says:

I’m a millennial, so old according to gen z (lol) but not exactly old, and it’s scary to me how much stock people put into social media. The happiest couples, whether celeb or otherwise, don’t blast their love all over the internet. It’s just so performative to me and has no meaning other than seeking validation from other people.

      • Darla says:

The unhappiest couple I personally know, post the most BS about their “love”. Meanwhile, he hasn’t touched her in literally two decades and she wants to have affairs but is torn apart with Catholic guilt. I really wish she never told me the truth because I cringe for her every time she posts some lovey dovey nonsense. And he does it too. Why the performance? That’s what I don’t understand. My best love stories have happened alone, and they are magic memories that I still wouldn’t share to this day. Only two people were there, only two people have the right to think back about them. To each their own, but this gets a big side eye from me.

      • Veronica S. says:

I feel like it has to be mentally exhausting and really wonder about the long term mental health impact of it. It literally requires you to be “on” all the time and forces you to validate even personal experiences through an online filter. I do not miss my Facebook days.

      • FilmTurtle says:

Yeah, I know this guy who just got married. Both his and his wife’s IGs are FILLED with black and white photos of the two of them screaming with laughter and pointing at someone off-camera and lovey-dovey quotes and emojis. And the comments are filled with hearts and stars.

(I wonder if wedding photographers actually sell packages with the same kinds of poses/setups because they’re all alike.)

Meanwhile, this guy cheated constantly. He got mad at me because I knew his girlfriend/wife’s name but had never met her and I kept confusing his date-of-the-week with his actual girlfriend. They’re not famous or influencers or anything remotely like that. But they’re putting a lot of damn effort into trying to make people believe they’re a star-crossed couple.

    • MF1 says:

Agree. There’s some special about keeping moments like this private, just for the two of you.

    • Anna says:

They are both in the entertainment business and they are 20s/early 30s. It’s part of the culture.

  8. whateveryousay says:

My God I find them exhausting. Michael B is trying so damn hard and it feels like a love bombing situation. I just need them to just be more lowkey. I did laugh though at my fellow Black twitter crews for making fun of them for “eating the children in front of the parents” while at the aquarium. I was laughing so hard yesterday.

    • FilmTurtle says:

      That’s so funny.

Eating sushi at an aquarium does kind of say everything about this whole dog-and-pony show, doesn’t it?

  9. Hell Nah! says:

Good for them I guess. Love feels good any way you slice it but something about all the photos (Valentine’s Day and previous) seems performative to me. He does seem genuinely bowled over by her. She seems more into showing us how into her he is. Truly, all the best to them, but she could lose the haughty “look-at-how-he-adores-me” looks. Anyone who is into Michael B. (yes, he’s fine enough) is going to be envious of her anyway – she doesn’t need to stir that pot.

  10. M says:

Those plastic shoes he bought her are so fugly. Money truly cannot buy taste.

  11. Mindy Lee says:

I give them another three to six months, tops. Lori Harvey is pretty but she posts on social media only about designer labels and other toxic things that she wants people to feel envious of her lifestyle but it’s entirely tacky. MBJ is a player and will be a single bachelor at 50 like his friend Jamie F*xx.

  12. RoyalBlue says:

no no no. this is too over the top and totally tacky filming it and sharing it with the world.

they have joined the realm of kanye and kim.

    • Nicole says:

Yeah, the aquarium would be an amazing place to have all to yourself because you could really sit back and see the animals. But instead they just want an exotic backdrop. And the flowers are wasteful. This reads as a sugar daddy/baby relationship. It’s just sort of sad.

  13. Queen Meghan’s Hand says:

To echo Farah’s comment above: the way he is publicizing this relationship is raising my suspicions. Michael B. Is a bonafide A-Lister, A-Listers schedule photo shoots with Vogue or W or Vanity Fair to ostentatiously announce their love, not Instagram.
It just seems a bit desperate on his part. What is he trying to distract us from?
    Suspicious…

    • tsk says:

lol I was actually thinking the same thing. Usually, things like these would ping “Gay” to me. But I’m bi and my gaydar is solid, and he has never ping’d. I’d be genuinely shocked.

  14. BK says:

These over the top displays of love which people do just so it can be posted on IG mean exactly zero when it comes to love and commitment. Amazes me that grown women can’t see this lol.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Well, she is only 24 and seems to be enjoying this joy ride. It doesn’t seem that they are in it for the long haul with all of this over-the-top publicity, though.

  15. Darla says:

I’m so old I remember when an actor’s career was badly damaged because he wore a tshirt stating he loved his girlfriend, but sure this is great.

  16. luna says:

I can never understand or see myself rooting for a couple who show off their relationship on social media so openly.

And she’s 24 and he’s 34, she must be so mentally immature compared to him because you change A LOT during your 20′s. I definitely think much less of him because of this relationship – and his womanizing before could barely get a pass from me.

    • Riola says:

Never underestimate how immature 30 year old men can be (also 40, 50, 60 year old men.) In age gap relationships I usually find it’s actually the older man who’s much less mature, but still able to be controlling and domineering. And the larger the age gap, the less mature he is. When the woman eventually gets older and chafes at this, it’s over. There are always exceptions though.

      • cassandra says:

I’ve noticed a lot of times men ( in real life anyway) go for someone significantly younger because women closer to their age want nothing to do with them

    • tsk says:

It’s not an age gap that makes me barf, but it is definitely troublesome…

Does he have DiCaprio syndrome? I’d be so disappointed if that’s the case.

  17. Anna says:

Or it could just be that they are young and in the entertainment business and that’s part of the culture of it. I say, let them enjoy their love and ostentatiousness. If it lasts, great. If not, no biggie. Both are beautiful and will have plenty of opportunities to find love if this one doesn’t work out. But I wish them well and at least for the sake of having something good to think about, I’m going to believe it’s true love.

  18. Bibi says:

It’s great to go all out for someone you love. For me this is too over the top and although this is great, it disappoints me that instead of living this moment fully, she is filming her surprise to be able to brag about every detail on social media. but Michael’s seems to be on board with that, so that’s fine. However, that is total turnoff for me. I would guard those precious moments like a dog on a filet mignon. or would only give a peek. The step by step gift enumeration feels too try-hard/braggy for me and kinda missing a little bit of class, but she is excused becuase she is 24.

    • Hell Nah! says:

She’ll get no passes from me. Seriously over the top (him) and braggadocious (her). Count your blessings and put your damn phone down.

      • Bibi says:

        I’m being too nice lol
…but showing that certificate for hermes stocks with the black marker streaks is seriously tacky lol!!!

  19. Wilma says:

I love MBJ and for his sake I would pretend to enjoy the showering of gifts. But my own husband knows better than to spend money on jewelry. Still, I would pretend very hard for Michael.

  20. Veronica S. says:

Screams performative and will likely end in a year, but, hey, enjoy the ride girl. Most people don’t get to date a rich, handsome/beautiful celebrity at any point in their lives lol. If she winds up being legit, kudos to both of them.

  21. Barbiem says:

    Good for them.
My son brought me a ballon, chocolate and dinner. My husband watched t.v and ate my dessert from dinner when I came back home
what.ever. anyways im luke warm on his personal life but I love his acting.
Lori living her best life. She blessed

  22. Chimney says:

Have always thought a private aquarium would be a dream date but eating sushi there is hilarious! I wish them the best but he doesn’t seem very emotive with her. Or maybe he’s just less into the social media portion of their relationship? That might be down to the 10 year difference between them.

  23. RoyalBlue says:

He has now set the bar so high, Valentine’s day next year he has to go for broke.

  24. elle says:

I can’t stand that bottom pic. He looks like he’s having a private moment, while she looks like she’s about to break the fourth wall and tell us that’s how it’s done.

  25. tsk says:

I don’t want to bring on the drama, but… didn’t he say once upon a time ago that he wasn’t attracted to Black women? or am I misremembering?
