The rumors of Penelope Cruz’s alleged pregnancy have been going around for months. The alleged father of the alleged hot, Spanish love child is none other than Penelope’s Oscar-winning hottie boyfriend, Javier Bardem. Two of the biggest stories that we covered about the rumors were during the first round, in late May and early June, when Penelope had to pull out of some appearances at the Cannes Film Festival. The official story was “food poisoning” but some sources said “morning sickness” was the real cause. Then, back in August, another round of “She’s totes with child” rumors started when she was photographed looking heavier, with some kind of baby-bump/food-baby/gas thing happening in her abdomen area. A source allegedly close to Penelope “confirmed” the baby rumors… and then everything went silent again.
Penelope was set to walk the carpet at the Toronto Film Festival for weeks and weeks. Many thought that Penelope would use the TIFF carpet to officially debut her bump, and finally confirm what we’d all been fantasizing about (sex with Javier Bardem). Alas, we weren’t that lucky. Penelope walked the red carpet last night wearing a beautiful pale-aqua blue RM by Roland Mouret cocktail dress. She looked lovely. She looked glowing. She looked… thin. Like she’s lost about 15 pounds. Is it a clever dress? Is she hiding a bump behind the draping? Or was she never pregnant, and she had just gained a little weight, which she has now lost? Well, we have a lot of questions for Penelope, but she’s not interested in answering any of them:
For several weeks, tabloids and the blogosphere have been abuzz with speculation that Penélope Cruz is pregnant with boyfriend Javier Bardem’s baby, sparked by photos of the Spanish beauty sporting what some have described as a baby bump.
And the Oscar-winning actress is not happy about it.
On the red carpet of Thursday night’s Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Cruz’s new film, Broken Embraces, she let her annoyance show. A witness tells PEOPLE that when a TV crew brought up the topic, a clearly irked Cruz, 35, snapped, “That’s your question?!” – and promptly stomped away.
Cruz’s irritation may stem from the fact that she indeed is not pregnant. A likely indicator? She was spotted smoking Parliament cigarettes on Wednesday at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood with BFF Salma Hayek and a couple of other female friends. Her rep, meanwhile, remains mum on the topic.

Interesting… so, if she wasn’t pregnant and she just lost some weight, she would just simply say “no” when asked “Are you knocked up?” That makes me think that she is pregnant. But the smoking thing is weird. The smoking makes me think that she isn’t pregnant. I’m so confused! I need some perspective… if you were with Javier Bardem, wouldn’t you be pregnant by now? How could you stop yourself?
UPDATE: USA Today (via Us Weekly) has Penelope’s pregnancy denial now. Penelope says, “I start getting some presents from friends saying, ‘Congratulations, you’re pregnant.’ And I say, ‘No, I’m not, so return the presents. It’s amazing.” I guess someone can have sex with Javier Bardem and successfully fight the urge to have his hot Spanish love child. Who knew?

There have been pictures of her out smoking with Selma Hayek. I’m going to say “no” on the whole pregnancy thing.
Maybe she had a miscarriage or something. That would explain why she doesn’t want to talk about if she’s pregnant or not.
Agreed GatsbyGal. I think the media should be a bit more refrained in their speculation. Losing a baby is such a painful experience, doing so in the public eye must be excruciating.

I just think we would have heard *something* if she had miscarried. Far more likely she just gained weight over the summer, then lost it quickly for her red carpet appearances. Or, it’s just a clever, bump-hiding dress.
I also find it weird that none of her friends are talking.
I would be pissed too if I went on the red carpet to promote my work and someone asked me quastions of that sort. Annoying, wouldn’t you say?
I’d be pissed if someone asked me if I was pregnant period! NOT something to ask a woman-I don’t care if she’s 8 months along! Wait for them to tell YOU before you ask! lol

I don’t see how this is a bump-hiding dress. There is some draping but from all angles she looks thin, including from the side. Penelope strikes me as the type who gets annoyed by all rumors and gets ticked when asked about them. People believe what they want to believe. Even with a denial tabloids will still say she’s pregnant.

Agree, the whole rabid paparazzi baby bump watch is pretty insensitive to the number of miscarriages women have. Just saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona, she and Javier were the best thing in it. They would have cute babies!
What is it with these comments about “a lot of women smoke during pregnancy”? If I had a friend who was pregnant and I saw her smoking….I’d smack her up side the head. Do these women drink while pregnant too? Does having an underweight baby with underdeveloped lungs AND fetal alcohol syndrome sound good?

Some folks just find it hard to get pregnant. They try for years and years and it doesnt happen. Speaking for myself, I tried for two years before becoming pregnant recently with twins! Yay!! But during that two years of trying it was a really hard time and quite stressful. Being asked questions about it is not nice and if she is trying for a baby with Javier and not succeeding that could also be what’s bothering her.

agreed, asking a woman if she’s pregnant is crossing the line. its a private thing and many women wait until theyre several months along due to the risk of miscarriage, which is possibly what happened to penelope. either way, its her business.
What I don’t get is how people automatically assume two attractive people will automatically have a gorgeous child together? That just is not always the case. Those goodlooking genes (ha) have been known to skip over a generation or two and in some families they’ve been only known to show up once.

I actually like the dress. But I doubt it’s bump-camo; she looks very slender. I hope that she wasn’t pregnant and lost the baby, but I have a feeling that might well have happened. Hopefully next time.
