Taylor Swift wore Oscar de la Renta to the Grammys & picked up Album of the Year

While I’m not happy at all with the Grammys’ maskless red carpet, I am grateful that we have actual PHOTOS from a red carpet. It’s been too long. Taylor Swift is getting her own post because she’s Tay-Tay. Taylor was nominated for several Grammys, all for Folklore (her first quarantine album) or for her first single off Folklore, “Cardigan.” Taylor ended up winning one Grammy last night, but it was one of the big ones: Folklore won Album of the Year. I don’t know… I kind of feel like that’s well-deserved? Folklore was a big deal and the Snake Fam looooved that album. I even liked some of the songs! This AOTY win means that Taylor has won the prestigious top prize three times – her first and second AOTY wins were for Fearless and 1989.

Taylor wore a custom Oscar de la Renta dress which suited her and suited the “Folklore era.” Very Woman of the Woods, flower-strewn forest, pastel fairy vibes. Taylor has had bangs for a few years now, but last night at the Grammys, that was the worst her bangs trauma has ever looked, in my opinion. I don’t know if she gave her bangs a too-short trim before the show or what, but they were almost baby bangs and she straightened them too! I kind of feel like her bangs alone ruined the styling of this really lovely dress.

Taylor also performed a medley of songs from Folklore in what people said was a prerecorded bit? Which was fine, the performance was fine. Tay hasn’t posted it to her YouTube page as of this writing. The Grammys did post the video of her AOTY win though:

Kinda hated the dress when usually I love dresses like this. She should have worn a Christian Siriano butterfly gown, have you seen them? Magical, wish I could share pic, his black two piece one with white butterflies is a dream come true. My daughter says she wants it as a wedding dress although no way can we afford it. Twitter posted her musical performance and she seamlessly flowed from one song to the other to the other, captivating.

I agree, it seems better up close and from far away, it photographs like a chaos. It’s too much. BUT I love those shoes.

  2. Darla says:

Folklore was certainly MY album of the year. I couldn’t imagine naming anything else album of the year for 2020. Didn’t it take most of us on a nostalgic tour of our pasts during the most surreal year of our lives? In the end I liked Evermore even better, but I I would still name Folklore as 2020’s album of the year.

    • Case says:

Totally agree Darla. I like Evermore a bit more, but they’re sister albums that complement each other and folklore dropping from the sky during one of the strangest parts of the pandemic was a godsend. It made it the album of 2020 for sure.

    • Kate says:

I agree, it captured the whole quarantine mood for me. I am not surprised she didn’t win for any individual song (although Exile is one of my absolute faves, although that award should have gone to BTS in any case), IMO none of the songs made as much of an impact as the whole album together did. There were a lot of really strong contenders this year, pretty amazing how much creativity in basically every direction came out of this last year!

  3. Dlc says:

Wow, the bangs trauma is SO BAD! The only song off folklore i remember hearing was cardigan, which I didn’t care for. She’s singing about how she felt like an old sweater? Until someone put her on and said she was their favorite? This is an actual song.

    • Chicken says:

      A) no, not quite B) it’s called a metaphor

      • Dlc says:

I know its a metaphor, it’s just a bad metaphor. And I love WAP. I’ll take an ode to female sexuality over that limp song any day.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

As opposed to wet pussies? Sorry lol. Not a Tay fan, but a metaphorical cardigan is more appealing than some chick’s wet ass pussy in my face.🤣

      • Darla says:

Definitely not to my taste (lyrics OR performance), but I kinda am grateful for that song because it gave Ben Shapiro a meltdown and hives.

      • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Best part of that song was seeing the meltdowns lmao.

  4. Ang says:

folklore is the perfect album to mark the pandemic. Solitary and soulful

  5. Ersatz says:

I don’t care about Taylor, her album or her dress but I LOVE the outfit of the woman with her on stage with the pink dress and the loooong black sleeve !

  6. Eleonor says:

    I LOVED Folklore and Evermore.
They were perfect for my mood, she made me dance a bit, and God knows how many tears I cried listening to Marjorie.
So yes that Grammy is well deserved.

  7. Twin falls says:

I love/d Folklore. I feel like I’ve listened to Exile at least a thousand times.

  8. SM says:

“One of the greatest songwriters of all time” really, is the bar so low?

    • line says:

People who say this, I wonder what time is he referring to? because she certainly isn’t as talented in writing as Sade, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton or Carole King. For my writing skills lack of maturity, creativity and depth of soul.

    • Case says:

Taylor’s music is enduring partially because of her continuous growth as a songwriter and her evident talent for it from a young age. I totally understand she’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but her writing connects deeply with her fans and she’ll undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest songwriters of her generation when all is said and done.

      • line says:

The other songwriters too, no one is saying that she’s bad at her writing, but she certainly isn’t one of the greatest songwriters of her generation.

      • Emily says:

I think she is. All too Well still hits me so hard a decade later.

    • Amando says:

She’s a good songwriter, but I definitely wouldn’t say of “all time”. She wouldn’t even be in my top 10 to be honest.

    • Sammiches says:

Yeah, that comment always makes me scratch my head. She just mashes clichés and similes together and sets them to music.

  9. Lily P says:

I might be in the minority but I love the chaotic beauty of this dress.

  10. Case says:

Folklore and Evermore were absolutely my albums of the year and this was soooo well deserved. She stepped out of her usual box and made something beautiful. And I LOVED her performance last night! Wonderful medley.

  11. Mina_Esq says:

I’m just glad Taylor is no longer wearing prom dresses to award shows.

  12. paranormalgirl says:

    I really liked Folklore, too.

  13. Sam says:

I liked some songs from the Folklore album so good for her. I love her dress and she looks fantastic

  14. ce says:

    Deserved. Nice job!

  15. Veronica S. says:

She’s actually the first female artist to win it three times, too, I think. So good for her, honestly.

Mixed feelings about the dress. It’s VERY busy, but it is also very her. It’s one of those things where I feel like it works only for certain people.

  16. Kate says:

Beautiful woman, great artist. I vote she can wear her hair any damn way she pleases.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

This is my hair color since I haven’t had a balayage in almost two years, with some gray thrown in. Thanks, covid.

    • sassafras says:

Yep. If she likes her hair, then good for her. Same with Beyonce’s hair and H.E.R.’s hair and Megan’s hair and HAIM’s hair(s?). I’m so tired of curling up noses at people’s hair choices, white, black and everywhere in between. These women are artists and made stuff for us. They’re not Barbie dolls.

  17. Sandra says:

Folklore is an absolutely gorgeous album and deserved this award. I was listening to it every day up until the latest incident where Taylor didn’t step up and tell her army to stop doxxing people in her name.

  18. Tammy says:

She annoys me. I hate how she will pretty much win no matter what style her music is that year. So many amazing artists go undiscovered or not recognized. All she had to do is now make folk music and win them all.
If you want some decent music in this category listen to first aid kit or camera obscura.

  19. girl_ninja says:

I think she should reach out to the actor from the Neflix Ginny & Georgia series. Antonia Gentry has been targeted and had hateful, racist insults hurled at her by those fans of hers.

Taylor should reach out and apologize and let her fans know that she’s spoken to her.

  20. Savannah says:

Folklore certainly deserved AOTY – it captured the whole mood of 2020. I haven’t stopped listening to it (along with evermore) and it helped me through the isolation and melancholy of the lockdown. So thank you Taylor, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner (who seems like such a sweetheart, loved that she made him gave his speech first) for the beautiful, exquisite albums.

I think she looked lovely and I also loved her dress and especially her shoes!

  21. Liz version 700 says:

Folklore was great. I felt like it showed a growth in her music past the ditty bop tunes to include some more soulful songs. I loved several songs off of Folklore. Whew that dress is a lot, but she looked like she was having a ball. I like slightly more mature Tay Tay. She is growing up to be a way more stable adult than I anticipated. Good for her.

  22. Amando says:

Bad hair as usual, but her dress is adorable. Totally suits her image.

  23. K says:

Hair awful, but it’s her head so whatever. Dress meh. Folklore though is her best work , hands down.
