Avril Lavigne shows her fashion line Abbey Dawn

24 year-old Canadian singer Avril Lavigne showed her punk princess fashion line, Abbey Dawn, at fashion week in New York yesterday. Celebrity guests at Avril’s clothing launch included infamous p0rn star Ron Jeremy, designer Tommy Hilfiger, entertainment reporter Maria Menounos, and Nicky Hilton. Abbey Dawn is available at Kohl’s department stores in the US and is affordably priced at $24 to $58 USD. It features plenty of faux-punk wear for tweens, with pink and purple zebra, skull, and polka dot prints predominating. Hoodies, capri pants and shorts are emblazoned with tough sayings like “Rock ‘n Roll” and “Rock It.”

Last year, Avril explained that “the inspiration for Abbey Dawn came out of my closet. It’s who I am and what I think is cool and anything I’d wear.” She described her design process as something akin to mail ordering. “I can literally come up with anything I want to wear and then it’s made and I get it.”

The name “Abbey Dawn” is Avril’s nickname, given to her by her dad when she was a child. She says that she doesn’t just make clothing for kids though, and that “I’m making sure that I think people in their 20s are going to wear it because it’s going to be a sexy fit, not just, ‘Oh, T-shirts and hoodies.’ The hoodies are slimming. It’s not a thick, bulky material.” So 20 year-olds are more likely to wear hoodies with doofy prints and dumb sayings on them if they are slim fitting, did I get that right? What about that terrible black pleather jacket with the pink leopard print lining that the middle model in the top photo is wearing? Would anyone over the age of 13 be caught out in that other than at a costume party?

*yawn* More sub par Hot Topic castoffs.

  2. yadira says:

Uh ya, I wouldn’t let my kid wear this crap! It looks fugly

  3. ! says:

Also Avril, if you’re reading this, I have some career management advice:

    artists with staying power evolve.

  4. Kris says:

I will sum this up as my 3yr old did when I clicked on this story… “he he he, she looks funny mommy!”

  5. Susette says:

“the inspiration for Abbey Dawn came out of my closet.”

Erm..so she keeps bad MTV 80’s videos in her closet?

  6. ash says:

The only thing that I like are her shoes. Which I’m sure ISN’T part of her line.

On a side note, the model on the left looks like a creepy mannequin.

  7. princess pea says:

I always forget how tiny she is.

Clever move, though. There is a lot of money in marketing affordable fashions to teens.

  8. Gaby says:

Those models look pissed that they even have to walk for her cheap hot topic line

  9. ! says:

lol yup Gaby except the red head who is taking herself waaaay too seriously.

  10. the original kate says:

    why is ron jeremy there?

  11. Vermithrax says:

Hahah… I love that Ron Jeremy is mentioned first 🙂 Life is beautiful.
Grats to candy girl on her Trendy-Neo-Pseudo-Pop-Goth-Clone stuff that ALL the little babes will wear in order to be truly unique.

  12. Hieronymus Grex says:

Nothing screams class like having porn star has-been Ron Jeremy at your fashion premiere. She needs to go back to doing her weak impression of Alanis Morissette.

As it was said before, Hot Topic cast-offs for people with too much pocket money.

  13. lilred says:

She looks about 12 years old in these pics, which also happens to be the median age of anyone who might wear these clothes.

  14. Kittypants says:

Ugh. Tacky, classless and cheap. A bit like Avril herself really.

  15. Mairead says:

She described her design process as something akin to mail ordering. “I can literally come up with anything I want to wear and then it’s made and I get it.”

How about dreaming up a muzzle, love? 👿

  16. GatsbyGal says:

Avril would be so pretty if she didn’t try so hard to look like a twelve Hot Topic employees smashed together. And her “fashion line” is a joke…pink and black, like that’s never been done before. Yawn, stupid.

  17. BitterBetty says:

You guys are cracking me up!

  18. yadira says:

Are we even sure the model with the top hat is real? She looks waxy and creepy.

  19. Miss Wanderlust says:

Her smile is faker than Bree Hodge in Desperate Housewives, she has the perfect Stepford Wife qualities written all over her…..brrrr, Creepy !
And where was her “handsome” hubby ?

  20. LL says:

Just about what you would expect from her. Cheap, trashy, slutty look. She is a low-life and it shows in this line of “clothing”.

  21. birdgherl says:

    where’s deryck?

  22. praline pecan says:

She’s so immature, she should have been wearing this shit at 14, not 24. But she was too busy in acid-washed jeans with poufy curly hair singing country and church music. Such a fucking poseur trying to re-live her adolescence – or perhaps living it forever. It wouldn’t even have been cool in 1999, but whatever. I had Coal Chamber pics in my locker back then so who am I to say.

  23. Lisa says:

    avril choose people’s market

  24. doesn't matters says:

god!! people you are just so frickin’ stupid…….most of the poeple will understand untill now that avril has his own stile and i think that it really matters how old do you feel no how old you really are and avril is a crazy and cool woman who feels like a tennage….you don’t know her so you can’t tell how mature she really is…i think she will be a really cool mother who will let her child dress how he/she feels and suport her like a good friend…you people shouldn’t controle your kids this way…make sure that they will be good people but don’t tell them what to wear…and stop beeing so bad because everybody has feelings and avril did her fashion line folowing her instinct and you should apreciate that she had this courage…so shut up if you don’t understand and try to be a good person

  25. ParadoxxKitty says:

    Hey hey!

I’m in my very (VERY) late 20’s and I like a lot of the stuff from the line…TO be honest I’m not a huge fan of her music (it’s about 50-50) for me…same for the clothes I guess, I either really like the pieces a lot or don’t like them at all cause they’re weird even for me…but all my life I’ve enjoyed odd and weird color combinations and patterns and such. Plus it’s one of the only brands of jeans I can afford that doesn’t shrink in the wash.

As long as you wear what you like and wear it with confidence you’ll look fabulous! 🙂 🙂 🙂
