Gillian Anderson won in red Dolce & Gabbana at the SAG Awards

Gillian Anderson took home a SAG last night for her work in The Crown of course. Her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher was polarizing but I loved it. In one of the “at home” segments the SAGs played, Common said that Gillian made him feel sorry for Thatcher, which is true! She did that for me too. Gillian was in this crimson strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress, which is a very safe and classic red carpet look. It’s lovely despite the design house. It looks like something we would see on Kate Winslet. You can see Gillian’s acceptance speech here. I wonder if everything is ok with her and Peter Morgan now.

Amy Adams was also in a staid dress, in a black mock turtleneck one sleeve Celine. I was thinking Amy was nominated for an Oscar this year, but she’s not for once. I want Amy to get an Oscar, but not for a movie like Hillbilly Elegy. The same goes for Glenn Close.

Here’s Glenn Close rocking a red Oscar de la Renta that looks super comfortable. It also looks like it would make her trip if she wore it on a traditional red carpet. I love that her dog is in the background of this shot! I wonder how many takes that took, but maybe he’s the type of dog who always follows her around. Those dogs are the sweetest but their neediness can be too much.

Youn Yuh-Jung won in Glenn’s category, best supporting actress, for her work in Minari. Her acceptance speech was so sweet! I like how everyone told her that her English was good and put their thumbs up.

Jurnee Smollet worked a bright pink Zuhair Murad gown with a mullet balloon skirt. I love how over the top this gown is.

Kerry Washington was in an Etro gown with circular sequins and a matching cap. The cap is so unique and she even got in the pool! She’s ruining this amazing gown, which must have taken hundreds of man hours, but she’s also emphasizing the old school Hollywood look. This is reminiscent of the synchronized swim looks in classic movies. There’s a video at the end of this slideshow where she fully jumps in the pool.

I know that those one arm gowns, dresses, and even tops are very in right now, but I loathe them. I don’t even like cold shoulders, but I will take those over this monstrosity.

I just love that look on Kerry Washington! Jurnee looks amazing too.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I loathe them as well. It would drive me nuts. I can’t even stand for the hem to be lopsided but missing an arm is just no.

  2. Lauren says:

Kerry my girl why Etro? Why? It’s a pretty dress but Etrò is trash, not as bad as DG, but they are getting there. I love Jurnee’s dress! The color, the cut, the over-the-topness of it!

    • Darla says:

Oh really? I didn’t know that about Etro.

      • Lauren says:

Etro is a dumpster fire of racism. They have been under fire for a while, but during last summer they were dragged for being performative allies. Turns out that their head of communications went to a slavery-themed party (with people in black face in chains, I kid you not) and that they regularly don’t invite black people for any or party, special and they don’t appreciate being called out either, they will block anyone on social media.

      • Darla says:

        Jayus Christ!

  3. Jennifer Romans says:

Count me among the many who absolutely hated Gillian Anderson’s cosplay in the Crown. I couldn’t see past the terrible wig and lockjaw speaking style.
Poor Amy Adams, she so deserves all the awards for her many amazing performances, but agree not for Hillbilly. And that dress is so unfortunate. Does her stylist hate her?

    • Robin says:

You’re not alone. I don’t think she is a very good actress. Some of her scenes in The Fall were terrible. I know. I’m in a minority.

  4. Lucy2 says:

    Love Gillian’s.
Are we sure that’s Amy Adams? She looks so different.

  5. Eating Popcorn says:

Amy Adams is unrecognizable… what happened to her?

    • Tiffany says:

      I think Amy looks great.

Amy, like myself, is middle age. She doesn’t seem to be out here staving or over exercising herself. She looks the same, she is just older and there is nothing wrong with that.

      • Hell Nah! says:

Amy looks amazing and completely unrecognizable as well.

I think Jurnee’s dress suits her to a ‘T’ – both are gorgeous.

      • Tiffany says:

I think it is just that she has a fuller face. A few commenters say its Botox and maybe it is. Or a really bad photoshop job.

It very well could be Botox and I’m kinda sad about it.

      • josephine says:

I don’t think it’s the tiny bit of extra weight, I think it’s her face. It looks unnaturally smooth and not like her. Whatever she’s done has erased her a bit.

      • lucy2 says:

I think she looks great, just very different in those photos, like her facial features are different. Maybe it’s different makeup or the darker hair color or something, or it’s the lighting, I don’t know.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Mid-face fillers, is my guess. And maybe some botulinum.

  6. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I thought Adams was Shumer first glance. Don’t like top three looks. Jurnee looks beautiful, but these dresses make me feel like they couldn’t decide which asset to showcase lol. And her bewbs, which are obviously perfect, needed a better stage. I like Kerry’s low key take on the event.

    • josephine says:

Her breasts looks painful. I don’t get wearing a dress that would torture your poor breasts like that. I don’t think they look painful, I think they look like plastic discs. She’s obviously gorgeous with a killer figure, but I think the dress takes away from her rather than adds. That color is fantastic though.

  7. MF1 says:

I would never, ever wear Jurnee’s dress, but I sorta love it on her. It’s ridiculous, but that’s what the red carpet is for–fashion you’d never wear in real life.

I like Kerry’s look too. The vintage-y swimming cap totally makes the whole thing work. The other three (Amy, Gillian, Glenn) look nice but boring.

  8. Whistledown says:

I’m sort of over Botox shaming? Women have so much pressure to age well but we can’t let it look like you’re doing anything extra or it’s “sad.” We don’t shame women for dying their hair or or getting fancy facials so why is this enhancement the step too far? To me “filler watch” is the new “bump watch.” Why can’t we just let women live?

    • candy says:

On the one hand, I agree with you. On the other hand, it’s a bit like celebrating someone’s extreme weight loss to fit a certain standard. We need to celebrate women as they are, and celebrate the beauty of aging. Hence the tagline “there is no wall,” or whatever. Amy Adams, to me, looked beautiful as she was. And I think that’s the sadness in all this. Personally, I did not recognize her.

    • Veronica S. says:

I go back and forth on this, but honestly…I tend to come somewhere in the middle. I don’t like that people don’t give male celebrities shit for doing it (and they absolutely do, if subtler because they’re allowed to age more), but I’m also aware that plenty of these women are making a lot of money by their looks selling makeup, face care, fashion, etc. If they’re okay with being put on a centerfold and sold as a beauty ideal to younger people, they’re going to need to suck it up when people start noticing the work they get done.

    • Darla says:

      I 100% agree.

    • L4frimaire says:

I have to say, I don’t mind it if it’s subtle. It’s their business. We expect women in show business and public life to look a certain way, then drag them when we see the gray hairs, weight gain and a lot of wrinkles. No one like the overly pulled face and puffer fish lips, but a tweak here and there is fine.

  9. candy says:

I love Keri Washington’s dress and cap! I love the synchronized swimming vibe, very old Hollywood. Gillian Anderson’s performance was indeed polarizing, for me it was a miss. I found it very overdone.

  10. Scal says:

Youn Yuh-Jung is my mom’s FAVORITE actress. She’s huge in korea. My mom was so stoked for her to win a major western award. She has a cooking show and is adorable.

Also Yuh-Jung has lived in the US off and on for decades so I’m not surprised her english is spot on. One of her kids lives in Colorado full time.

  11. Veronica S. says:

I did a double-take on Amy Adams. She’s lovely, but her face has definitely changed. Not sure if it’s weight gain or something else, but her cheeks look fuller? Makes her look much younger, actually. Very fresh faced.

I hope to age as well as Gillian Anderson. I know she’s had work done, but it’s damn good work and hasn’t tried to shave years off so much as let her age a little more gracefully. That’s a great red dress on her.

I love Kerry Washington’s sense of fashion. That’s a gorgeous color, too.

  12. detritus says:

There’s something to be said for the sheer joy of not caring about the consequences and just living. I love the idea of just jumping in after a night of celebrating, especially since the dress isn’t super heavy looking and w that gorgeous cap. Sorta like the destroy the dress post bridal shoots

That said, I don’t have a backyard pool and the disposable income to purchase said gown and then either donate or pay for the extensive cleaning (provided this isn’t a chlorine pool and the dress doesn’t bleach)

Also Jurnee looks gorgeous here. The colour and the jewelry are so flattering . She’s working on her posing and it’s paying off.

  13. Bella says:

Jurnee looks so beautiful I love her dress and I kind of like Kerry’s dress, but I can’t get over getting in the pool and ruining as it probably took hundreds of hours to make. All the other dresses are not good.

  14. L4frimaire says:

Gillian Anderson looks good. It’s a gorgeous, classic gown, the perfect shade of red. It sucks that Dolce and Gabbana are such consistently awful, nasty people because they know how to design beautiful dresses. No matter how good the clothes, could not wear them.
