RIP DMX. My heart goes out to his children, and I believe he has 15 of them. I lost my dad young so I know the pain…poor kids.

  3. Watson says:

    He is so young. RIP

  4. Seraphina says:

RIP DMX and condolences to his family. So young to pass.

  5. square_bologna says:

I didn’t know any of his music, but I’m sad for the loss of so many years. Rest in peace. 😔

  6. The Recluse says:

My condolences to DMX’s family. Just so tragic. He’s only 6 years younger than me. Terrible.

  7. Joanna says:

I love Christopher Meloni! He DOES have some junk in the trunk. Bet he has a fine body 😍

  8. The Recluse says:

And now for the frivolous comment: Chris Meloni needs to be declared the King of the Chrises.
He is a national treasure on so many levels.

    • Anna says:

So true! I was feeling down today but this whole Meloni cake convo brought some joy to my day. #MerryChris-M-ass in April 😛

    sad. sad. sad.

So sad DMX – he had such a hard life. RIP

  15. Kate says:

So sad. Rest in peace, Earl.

  16. NorthernGirl_20 says:

So sad, drugs today are just horrible. My town just lost a 16 year old boy last weekend to an OD, whatever drugs he was doing were laced with Fentanyl. It’s an epidemic here.

  17. K says:

RIP DMX. It’s a hard fight.

  18. Blondems says:

Yeah, sad, but I’ll save my sympathy for people who don’t participate in animal cruelty. Anyone who does that is a piece of sh*t in my humble opinion and essentially irredeemable. Heartless on my part maybe, but I’ve got nine rescues and have seen far too much animal cruelty to move at all on this position. So I’ll save my tears for someone deserving of them.

Edited to add that there is some discussion as to whether the reporting on this is factual or not for 2014; however, he was convicted of animal cruelty in 2008, so for now, I’m standing by my opinion.

Honestly, instead of coming on his post with vitriolic because you are a dog lover, you could have saved that energy. Were you on Prince Phillip dogging him out because he was a racist a-hole? I don’t care for Prince Phillip so I kept it scrolling. Also, DMX had a fraught childhood and was known for using dogs for street protection since he was a teenager. Due to the seriousness and sadness of the issues stemming from why he was on the street at a young age (his mother basically gave him up to the system when he was in elementary school), perhaps you should take a moment to reflect.

      • Sunshine Shay says:

Yes, Imara, perfectly said. Thank you for saying this.

      • Anna says:

        This

      • Imara219 says:

Thank you, Sunshine Shay and Anna. I see women on this page defend the most interesting characters, and Prince Phillip’s post has over 100+ comments of people artfully sending condolences, for you know, a known associated racist and womanizer. Let’s not do this to DMX! Not today.

      • Sunshine Shay says:

        ❤️

      • Donna B. says:

@ Imara219: Very True. For DMX, when him & his ex-wife was on Couples Therapy on VH-1, his mom came on the show. She told DMX, after she got herself together, she went back to the Reform School to get him out. The institution told her, she couldn’t take him out, & he had to stay there. I think that agency pretty much lied to her as they have done to other Black families dealing with institutions such as this (there is history on this). There were issues dealing with his mother; DMX said, he would then go spend time with his grandmother; which pretty much saved him, until she passed away. So there were issues with his mother, but once she got herself together, she did go back to get him; but the institution wouldn’t let him go.

      • Donna B. says:

@Imara219: I also agree with you about how some tend to show “sympathy” & “understanding” with specific people, i.e. kate, philip, the markles. If Meghan was having trouble with her mom-Doria’s side of the family, I guarantee you, the BM, & the public, would have much sympathy for her. Comments stating, they agree with samantha about making money (via, giving interviews to trash Meghan) because the “markels” have been put in the spotlight because of Meghan’s marriage to Harry. Well, if the markels had never spoke to the media, they wouldn’t be in the spotlight right now.

    • Indywom says:

Do you think a cow, a chicken or pig suffers any less because they are killed for food? Go to a slaughter house some time. People are always upset about dogs but not upset when a person kneels on a grown man neck for 9 and half minutes causing him to die. I don’t like to see animals suffer either but when you are walking around in your leather shoes and carrying your leather bags and sitting down for a steak, a chicken or ham sandwich, remember some animal died. And remember, you don’t need a leather bag, leather shoes or a steak or a chicken or ham sandwich.

    • molee says:

      @Blondems
You’ve make it clear that you have no respect for DMX. It’s also clear that you have no respect for those of us who feel his loss. Posting your scolding, shaming, screed lecture on the day of the announcement of a man’s death, and posting it on a tribute thread, is some real Westboro Baptist Church sh*t.

    • Lemons says:

If y’all cared about animal cruelty so much, we might have put a dent in global warming and saving the rainforests and our oceans. But you don’t. We can barely get people to care about the lives of people of color, women, gays, trans, and non-Christians. So please, miss me with your faux outrage @Blondems, or is it Miss Blonde? And to do it on a post about his death…He’s gone. That should really be enough for you.

      • Imara219 says:

Lemons, exactly. These people are surface level concerns have demonstrated a lazy approach to knowing the truth behind DMX’s case. Instead they don’t know anything about this man’s life or legacy and want to take some vague headlines as facts and disparage him in death. People with zero understanding of the deeper complexities of his life shouldn’t be on his memorial post being loud and wrong. That’s not sugar coating his life journey that is being real. Same people never have the energy towards ending systematic racism, child abuse, drug offense as a judicial punishment, mental health reform, etc. Are just being mad disrespectful. No one is saying his life should be sugar coated, but there is also a time and a place. People intent on pulling back the fabric of his life are proving they don’t even know anything about him. There are a lot of inexcusable things that DMX did in his life that should be discussed on another day. The purpose of this post on the day he died was to memorialize him. So once again, being an adult with grace means putting that energy elsewhere.

    • Sam the Pink says:

Man, dog people really are the worst at times (I just have a bunch of cats). I do recall reading that DMX was charged because it was his property, but that he was not present and his uncle with the primary person responsible for the dog fighting. X always spoke very lovingly of his dogs because he identified with them as having tough lives.

And yeah, everyone else is right – unless you’re a vegan who fights just as aggressively for the lives of farm animals, don’t get righteous here. I know the type – people who will rage against how terrible dogfighting is but do it while tucking in some steak or fried chicken. Get your values consistent before you decide how to decide who is worthy of mourning. How would you react if upon the passing of somebody you cared about, I decided to say “F that meat eater”? Because that’s what you are doing now. Frankly, if you want grace extended to yourself, it starts by practicing it yourself.

  19. ABritGuest says:

This is so so sad. He seemed pretty happy on camera in his most recent appearances. I’m sorry for his family & thank him for some hip hop classics. RIP X

  20. Maria says:

This hit me more than Prince Philip. RIP sir ❤️

    • Sam the Pink says:

I think that’s because partially, at least, Prince Phillip’s death was fair, whereas DMX was not. Phillip was a 99 year old man with a 70 plus year marriage, four kids, multiple grand and great-grand kids, who just passed away quietly after a full and (from the outside) contented life. Sad to many, but nothing unfair about it. DMX had a lot left to go – he was still working, still making music, still clearly wanting to live – that makes it sadder, and makes it harder to process. Its tragic in a way an expected passing is not.

  21. Fromanotherplace says:

Thanks for saying it more kindly than I could have Imara219. Thanks for compassion and grace and for not being so far up your own ass that you have to pat yourself on the back for having nine rescues (and being ‘better’ than someone at the hour of their death). Especially when you don’t know the half of that someone’s life. DMX meant a lot of of people and especially so the Black community (globally). RIP to him.

  22. Nev says:

    RIP

  23. Amy T says:

May his memory be for a blessing and may his family be comforted.

  24. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I’m sad to say, I didn’t know any of DMX’s music, and I only knew him from a not-very-good movie “Romeo Must Die.” But that movie had some very attractive people in it — Aaliyah, Russell Wong, DMX, etc., and I watched it for the eye candy. I’m sadder about this than Prince Philip, especially since 50 is just too young.

  25. Digital Unicorn says:

RIP – he was a very talented man. I don’t know much about his musical career but I have seen several of his movies. Blessings to his family.

  26. MerryGirl says:

RIP DMX, may God grant you eternal peace.

  27. Natasha says:

I LOVE DMX! I seriously thought he was going to recover. Because he’s prevailed through so much and he was just like an omnipotent angel- in my eyes I guess he was like God’s favorite Lucifer. I can’t believe he’s gone. We played DMX to start our wedding. Only reason I gave pitbulls a chance was bc of DMX’s love for his. Love you, Earl 🙁

  28. Riverandtree says:

May DMX find eternal peace 🙏🏽 very sad that he passed away so young.

Addiction is a cruel fucking mistress. That animal cruelty thing was (is) some shit I couldn’t (can’t/won’t) abide, but Up in Here is still savage a f.

Even if you dont know DMX , trust me when I say the sentiment expressed in the hook is universal and timeless. Period.

  30. Natasha says:

I saw DMX interview about the dog abuse and he said he plead bargain guilty to stay out of jail. He owned the house but his uncle was living there and taking care of his animals. DMX was rarely home) always on tour or in jail), and he had barely got home before police raided the place. He discovered the situation and shut it down but couldn’t fix everything before police came. He was just as pissed as police. His uncle is the scumbag. DMX loves dogs. The tattoo across his back is “ONE LOVE BOOMER” and his pitbull’s face. Watch any interview he talks about Boomer- that was his 1st and biggest love. He trained Boomer to be scary on command so he could rob people, it was his partner in crime and best friend. DMX had really crappy family, Boomer was his fonly true family.

I believe DMX never hurt animals. DMX was always very honest and publically accountable for all his drug use and criminal activity- he held nothing back- why would he lie about abusing dogs?

    • Imara219 says:

He is on record as repeatedly saying he loves dogs more than people. He’s quick to share stories about how he robbed people or robberies he planned but he never once coped to this charge. He said that dogs give you love that humans don’t. These people would much rather argue on his memorial post and prove how much they know nothing about him or his life. While showing immense grace on Prince Phillip’s post.

      • Darla says:

I don’t know anything about DMX’s issues, but I haven’t even opened the Philip post because I couldn’t take the nonsense. Even reading about what is going on there is making laugh. Because that isht is a joke.

      • Haylie says:

It’s that thing where some people love dogs (or animals in general) and racism more than they will ever bother to care about a black person or see them as human. They always tell on themselves.

  31. JRenee says:

Condolences to his children and family and fans..

  32. FF says:

I was really hoping he’d pull through, and wrestle those demons to the ground. RIP.

  33. Donna B. says:

After reading some articles & watching recent interviews (the one with Noriega) DMX did; he had a new album coming out & was planning on going on tour. His family stated, the doctors didn’t tell them that he OD; he had taken the COVID vaccine so he could go on tour; & about a week later he’s deceased. So, depending on what you read/hear: he might have taken drugs, might have OD, & he did take a COVID vaccine (he was waiting for his turn to take it). The one thing is for sure is that he was planning on touring & releasing new music; meaning, he was planning on living his life & possibly making some amends. DMX said on the interview with Noriega, he had a song called “A Letter To My Son or Sons” collaborating with Usher, & this is what I mean, where I think he was trying to make some amends.

  34. Monica says:

This late-boomer white woman stood transfixed in front of the TV the first time she saw the video for “Who We Be.” I’ve been interested in him ever since. My heart melted when he talked about raising orchids. I’m so sorry he is gone.

  35. Well Wisher says:

I pray that Mr Simmons’s family will eventually find solace. So sad.

  36. Lady D says:

Can we please not use rescuing animals to disparage someone? Those who rescue animals do the work of angels, no matter the species.
