Jennifer Lopez still has the $1.9 million engagement ring & plans to keep it?

As we learned yesterday, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have broken up and broken off their engagement. The first major reports of their breakup happened about one month ago (on a Friday evening), but they quickly got back together and tried to work on some things. Alex was groveling and Jennifer was letting him grovel. And then she was like “wait, I’m rich, beautiful and awesome, I truly don’t need any of this.” So she was done, and they announced their split via an exclusive to the Today Show. And thank God. But did you know that she’s keeping the engagement ring? LMAO.

J Lo and A-Rod may have broken up, but there are still some housekeeping matters to tend to …. notably, who gets the $1.8 million engagement ring? Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ … J Lo still has the ring in her possession. As you may know, an engagement ring legally is a “gift in contemplation of marriage.” When the couple breaks up before hitting the altar, in most states the person who proposes gets the ring back.

Our sources say there’s been no discussion between J Lo and A-Rod over the fate of the ring. However, our sources are quick to add … the former couple exchanged “massive amounts of jewelry.” A-Rod bedazzled J Lo with all sorts of bling, and she fortified his massive watch collection. So, they could just call it a wash, but they haven’t decided yet.

We’re told the engagement ring is NOT in the Dominican Republic, where J Lo’s been shooting a movie. She didn’t want it lying around every day while she films … for security reasons.

Our sources say there will be no conflict over jewelry … they are getting along well, and even plan to stay in business together, so don’t look for J Lo and A-Rod on a “Judge Judy” episode.

I hope she keeps it. I know that’s not the broken-engagement protocol (especially if Jen was the one doing the dumping) but guess what? Alex can afford it and that’s what happens when you cheat on J.Lo and embarrass her publicly. She keeps ALLLLL the jewelry you gave her.

Speaking of, you remember how A-Rod slipped in Madison LeCroy’s DMs? Well, Page Six contacted LeCroy and all she said was “I wish them the best” and “You kind of caught me off guard.” I bet she already knew because Alex had already told her!

As for Alex, this was his IG Story – showing us his altar of J.Lo whilst Coldplay’s “Fix You” plays in the background.

I’d keep the ring, it’s gorgeous! And he was cheating/trying to cheat so it’s a wash.

    • Yup, Me says:

Exactly. I hope she keeps the ring and anything else she wants as well. He better not say boo.

    • Lyds says:

I would have zero problems keeping that ring! And yes, I want her to eventually have a public jewelry exhibit or even an auction a la the SATC movie scene where they shop the goods of a recent divorcee.

    • what's inside says:

Girl earned that ring putting up with him.

  2. Yoyo says:

Someone on Twitter said JLO have almost as many engagement rings as the the New England Patriots Super Bowl rings.

  3. Snappyfish says:

I was always told if you break off the engagement you return the ring (or if it is a family heirloom) BUT if he breaks off the engagement or was the cause of the relationship ending the ting is considered a gift & it’s yours.

The ring was lovely so it will be interesting what Jlo does. Why do you want it after the fact? I remember one of the gifts that Kobe gave Vanessa after his Colorado trial was a 4 million dollar purple diamond. That was crazy to me. I know that every time I looked at it I would remember that time my husband was on trial for rape right after I had our first child.

    The really rich are different

To re-set the diamond in another ring.

If I were JLo, I would keep the ring too!

    • Watson says:

I think Vanessa’s situation was different though. Realistically they dated when she was still a teen, she had a dysfunctional family life and got married super young. Kobe was all she ever knew and to leave that, despite the allegations, was probably a daunting task.

JLo on the other hand has always worked. She has her own money, talent and has a solid mom that supports her. Is she addicted to love? hell’s yes! But she also is ok with dipping out when she eventually realizes she’s with a loser.

I feel like I read that in Dear Prudie years ago.

Even if Jennifer broke it off it’s likely because he cheated, and therefore he’s the one who caused it. That means he doesn’t get the ring back and Jen can add it to her collection.

    • Lucy2 says:

That’s what I’ve always heard as well.
Personally I think I would give it back, especially if I had her wealth.

  4. Bookie says:

    J. Lo was the best thing to rehabilitate his shady reputation, and he just couldn’t keep it in his pants, even with her. He deserves what he gets.

  5. Noki says:

I believe she also kept that beautiful pink diamond from Ben Affleck, damn I bet her diamond collections rival Liz Taylor.

  6. Shells_Bells says:

I’m not convinced that A-Rod even picked out/paid for that ring. I think Jlo is too controlling for that. Not a criticism, it’s how she became who she is. And I’ve always assumed in high profile engagements like this that it’s some sort of sponsorship deal.

  7. Louise177 says:

Considering that both are wealthy I doubt it matters or either one cares. Alex probably didn’t ask for it back and Jennifer probably likes it. Just another gift.

  8. Sassy in Utah says:

Maybe he wants her to keep it in hopes that they will reconcile.

  9. The Recluse says:

If the guy I was engaged to cheated on me, thus killing the engagement, I would definitely return the ring because I wouldn’t want even a trace of him left in my life, but that’s me and that’s the sort of thing I would hold a grudge about. That said, I am not and have never been the sort of woman who attracts men who give fabulous gifts, so I would be completely befuddled if anyone attempted such generosity.
