Duchess Meghan will watch a special livestream of Prince Philip’s funeral

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit Newzealand House

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have seemingly taken pains to not directly criticize the Queen or Prince Philip in their public statements, whether it was Harry’s interview with James Corden or their interview with Oprah. I tend to believe that Meghan has a lot of fondness for the Queen, but she probably didn’t get to know Philip that well. I mean, when would she have had the time to get to know Philip? He was already mostly retired when she joined the Firm. But even though she didn’t know him well, she would have loved to attend his funeral, at least according to E! News:

Let the record show that Meghan Markle would’ve attended Prince Philip’s funeral were she not too far along in her pregnancy with Prince Harry’s second child, a baby girl. A source close to the Duchess of Sussex exclusively tells E! News, “Meghan wishes she could have flown to the U.K. to support her husband but has been advised not to due to her pregnancy.”

“She would have put all the family tension aside to be there with Harry,” the insider continues, before adding that the couple “are still not on amazing terms with the family.”

But Harry’s trip to the U.K. comes at an opportune time, according to the source, as it’s allowed him and Prince William to continue “working on their relationship” after an apparent fallout.

Moreover, the insider says, “Harry wants to make sure Meghan and the baby are healthy and not involved in stressful situations,” such as the very public funeral of Queen Elizabeth II’s husband.

And though Meghan and Harry want to make amends with the royal family, the insider says, “They have been focused on their new roots in Montecito and the pregnancy,” which comes after the Duchess suffered a miscarriage last July.

[From E! News]

Yeah, I think if she had only been a few months along in her pregnancy, she probably would have flown in with Harry and maybe even brought Archie or something. Who knows. Apparently, British outlets claim that Meghan will definitely watch the live-stream of Philip’s funeral too:

Pregnant Meghan Markle will reportedly make ‘private arrangements’ to honour Prince Philip as she is not able to attend his funeral. Buckingham Palace confirmed that loved ones who cannot make it to the funeral will make ‘private arrangements’ to remember the Duke of Edinburgh, The Sun reports.

Meghan will also be able to watch the funeral on a special live stream, reports say. Mourners who cannot attend because of the 30-guest Covid limit on funerals will be handed log-in details for this stream.

[From The Daily Record]

She could watch the special live stream… or she could just watch BBC America or CNN or something, I’m sure it will be carried live on several TV channels. I’m sure there are tons of live streams too, at least that’s what I’m counting on.

Meghan Markle, the US fiancee of Britain's Prince Harry, attends an Anzac Day dawn service at Hyde Park Corner in London on April 25, 2018. Anzac Day commemorates Australian and New Zealand casualties and veterans of conflicts and marks the anniversary of the landings in the Dardanelles on April 25, 1915 that would signal the start of the Gallipoli Campaign during the First World War.

Yeah i had assumed there would be several live streams of the funeral, is that not what’s happening? I know CNN is starting their all-day coverage at 9 am, which seems a little excessive but they did not ask me lol.

    • JT says:

Considering the BBC got a record number of complaints regarding wall to wall Philip coverage, I’m surprised at all of the streams happening. I think one would suffice and it’s interesting that CNN is covering it, all day no less.

      • Cecilia says:

I think its foolish. Bbc got a record of complaints and a significant dib in viewers. And when msnbc announced they were broadcasting it too i saw a lot of no thank you’s.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Is BBC America or BBC World News America covering the funeral?

    • swirlmamad says:

The only reason they are planning on all-day coverage is because they’re praying to the ratings gods that there’s some kind of dust-up between Bill and Harry. No offense, but this funeral does not warrant a play-by-play live stream bonanza.

      • MsIam says:

Exactly, he’s the husband of the monarch, not the monarch. Plus in the US why would we need blow by blow coverage? Its overkill seriously.

    • AnneSurely says:

The way I would not be attending this circus in any form if I were Meghan. And also Harry. Philip is dead. He’s not going to know who attended his funeral or not. Funerals are for the living and not one of those people deserves Harry’s presence. He would have been better off jettisoning this entire trip and having a private memorial at home. Folks who are in the damned if they do and damned if they don’t position need to seize the opportunity to opt out more often instead of playing the PR game.

    • Moxylady says:

Harry should just ft her and have his phone sticking out of his breast pocket. Done and done.

    • Emily_C says:

It’s incredibly strange that an American news channel is planning an all-day stream. Their ratings are gonna crater. He’s some 99 year old British aristocrat. They’ve never given all-day livestreams to funerals of American presidents, nor should they, so what’s the deal here? Maybe they’ll just cut to it for a couple minutes once an hour or something. Which is still far too much.

    • Christine says:

BBC is live streaming the funeral on YouTube.

  2. JT says:

Completely unrelated, but Meghan looks gorgeous in the grey coat and black hat.

    • L84Tea says:

I thought the same. I miss the days when all we had to discuss was clothes when it came to the royals.

    • Ang says:

      She really does.

      • JT says:

I’ve been going through the Meghan archives, and I’ve loved most of the outfits she’s worn throughout her royal tenure. I think some of the comments were overly nitpicky, but I think she found a nice balance of mixing her own style with the royal conservatism. I can’t wait until she and Harry get back out there with events to see her unleashed style. Her zoom outfits, especially the leather pants looks, have been good.

    • Lily Evans says:

And her hair looks absolutely amazing in the first picture. So shiny and glossy!

  3. equality says:

Watching the “special” livestream would mean not having to listen to the (potentially nasty) commentary associated with those stations airing the funeral.

  4. Jegede says:

I’m surprised to keep reading all US sources insisting Meghan wanted to come back to Blighty.

    After the recent, VERY sanctioned attacks against her re Dan Wootton & Piers Morgan;
    Gayle King openly stating the family are ignoring her;
The bogus Palace bullying investigation opened against her e.t.c

I would have thought Meghan would take the hint that being to be around the Windsors right about now is an unpopular idea.🤔🤔🤔

    • Amy Bee says:

Her spokesman said she made every effort to come but her doctor said no. Anything else said in the media about this is unreliable. However Meghan has form on this. She came back in March last year when everybody said that she wouldn’t and I think she would have gone to the funeral if she could, to support Harry.

      • nutella toast says:

@Amy Bee, I agree. She would be uncomfortable in order to stand by Harry.

      • Jegede says:

I’m not denying she wanted to come back, I’m just surprised she would want to, esp in light of recent events.

The BRF’s 3 favourite organs Scum, Daily Heil and Telegraph have continued to lambast Meghan.
Right up till this morning’s papers.

DM’s Eva Braun, Becky English, recently wrote she was told that the feud against the Sussexes is going to last decades and no reconciliation is in the works, unlike the other Royal rats narrative.

I’m just surprised Meghan’s still prepared to be around people who have made their hostility to her actively clear. (Barring the Queen).🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
I mean if the Commonwealth service was icy, things are much worse now.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Jegede: If she hadn’t gone back in March last year, I would agree with you but she did. We know that she’s a person who puts other people’s feelings above hers so I have no difficulty in believing that she would have wanted to go back to support Harry. I mean even Harry going back for the funeral, shows that they are both willing to go to places where they will be uncomfortable or unwelcomed. I think them going to the Commonwealth Day Service was a prime example of that.

    • Cecilia says:

Their very own spokesman said that she tried whichever way to go but was heavily advised by her physician not to. But i think she mainly wanted to be there for harry. Because he really did love the old basterd and philip loved him. So this can’t be easy for harry

    • Yoyo says:

When Meghan attended the Commonwealth Services, she was on a plane that same night back to Canada, she was supposed to join Harry by phone for the negotiations with the Firm and she skipped that also.
Sure she would’ve like to support Harry, but he knows he is walking in to a den of vipers, why would he subject her to that.

    • ABritGuest says:

To be honest not different then most families-there may be rifts but when there’s a death etc- most put feelings aside to attend a funeral.

She’d have made an effort to be there if it was possible to support Harry& maybe as she was on decent terms with Philip herself. Plus even those who say she wasn’t welcome back in the U.K. are still saying she should have attended the funeral- pregnancy be damned. So not surprised their spokesperson stated she would have attended if possible.

    • PrincessK says:

I would not be at all surprised if she comes to the U.K. later in the year.

    • ElleE says:

@Jegede don’t forget the March 5th pre-interview threat from the Telegraph that the British Charity Commission had opened a 2nd investigation (1st having been opened last year) into Sussex Royal. Still no word on that on uk.gov

      https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2021/03/05/prince-harry-meghan-face-charity-review

Anyone can file a complaint and the 1st one was legit -the Telegraph getting inside info that a complaint had been filed and running an article on March 5th with no follow up since is kinda interesting! The reporters must be busy with the Philip thing and what-not.

  5. Amy Bee says:

This is a non-story. The funeral is going to be streamed on the Royal Family’s YouTube channel but the Sun is making this out to be some extra special stream. Anything to talk about Meghan, I guess. As for the source talking about Harry and William using the time to work on the relationship, I think that was probably someone from the British press making that assumption. Harry’s there for the funeral nothing else.

    • Cecilia says:

They really need to let this idea of reconciliation go. Harry said the relationship was space and i think it should remain that way for at least a couple of years.

    • Ang says:

I suspect, in fact, there will be a special stream set up for family, which will include more intimate moments among the family, as well as the public feed.

    • PrincessK says:

I am sure there will be a livestream that is not for general public consumption.

  6. Over it says:

I sincerely hope that Megs is getting to rest and enjoy time with Archie and grow her baby peacefully.

    • Cecilia says:

I hope she’s making good use of that swimming pool they have. The weather in cali must be lovely around this time of the year

      • Chica says:

@Cecilia unfortunately, it’s not warm enough to be in a pool yet if you live in SB or LA counties. Only Palm Desert areas. Soon though. End of May things typically heat up.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Cecilia, here, in So. Cal. it’s been in the low to mid 60s; a bit cooler at the coast (though we’re going to have freaky hot weather Sun/Mon.).

We also have a phenom called “May Grays” and “June Gloom” that usually lasts till mid-July (we were always worried the weather wouldn’t clear by the mid afternoon for my nephews’ birthday parties in mid-July; typically, it starts off gray and doesn’t burn off till about 2pm until mid-July).

Our “summer” really starts in August, then *really* ramps up to hot mid-Sept. through end of Oct. (during Sept/Oct. is when we get the Santa Ana winds with temps near/over 100*) Ugh. lol

    • Sparky says:

Actually Chica it IS warm enough to be in a pool in LA or SB. They opened my local pool (Santa Monica) in early September 2020 and I’ve been swimming daily since then. Granted it’s lap swimming not hanging out by the pool but it’s been fine. They have strict Covid regulations so there’s no hanging out allowed and thus that’s not an issue. And there are times when there’s a stiff breeze coming off the ocean which feels kind of Arctic but overall it’s been wonderful.

  7. Yoyo says:

Make amends to the Royal Family, who writes this crap. Why are these writers forgetting a Pandemic is going on, Meghan would need her head examined even if she was 2 months pregnant to put her baby’s life in jeopardy to go to shutter Island.

    • TeamMeg says:

Backwards again! It’s the Royal Family who needs to make amends to Meghan and Harry. ARGHH!! Hel-lo.

  8. Midnight@theOasis says:

“But Harry’s trip to the U.K. comes at an opportune time, according to the source, as it’s allowed him and Prince William to continue “working on their relationship” after an apparent fallout.”

This is how you know this is nothing but made up fan fiction. As if Harry is trying to work things out with PWT. Also, it was more than an “apparent fallout” which all these gossip mongers conveniently gloss over. It was four years of non stop hateful, jealous, racist abuse. And until the BRF own it and apologizes, there will be no reconciliation.

  9. JT says:

I don’t think anybody could assume that Meghan didn’t get on well with Philip, or that they didn’t have a relationship. It might not have been super close, but I think there were positive feelings. Philip looked thrilled meeting Archie and he made it to their wedding despite his hip surgery weeks before. Nobody was suspecting the waffle maker story or the fact that they zoomed with Philip regularly. By that point people just thought that H&M had no relationship with the grandparents. And let’s not forget that Meghan had a direct line to the queen to send her regards for Philip’s hospitalization. As H&M have said, nothing is as it appears from the outside.

  10. aquarius64 says:

Meghan will most likely be watching network or US cable television.

  11. Tessa says:

The bots are now spreading fake news that Meghan was not invited and “exiled” like Fergie. Never mind that Fergie was divorced from Andrew ages ago.

  12. Nev says:

    Leave her alone.

  13. Keroppi says:

Since only 30 people are allowed at the funeral, if Megan had been able to attend, the press would have likely presented it as Megan was bumping someone more important from the list and how dare she!
