Naomi Campbell, 50, has welcomed her first child & she announced it on IG

This is a surprise but not a shock! Naomi Campbell, 50, has welcomed a baby. She announced this on her Instagram, as you can see above. Naomi has spoken before about her desire to be a mother, and she seems to have bouts of broodiness. I would imagine that seeing all of her model friends settled down with kids over the years affected her as well. Naomi captioned the photo:

A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother, So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love.

On her IG, her famous friends all congratulated her, including Marc Jacobs, Zoe Saldana, Jodie Turner-Smith, Erin O’Connor and tons more.

Now I’m thinking about Naomi’s extensive fashion collection, her personal archives which reportedly filled a huge airplane-hanger-sized storage center. Think of what the baby will inherit some day!

As for speculation about how Naomi became a mom… I have no idea, and she has the right to privacy. We “saw” her recently in an Architectural Digest photoshoot and video, showing off her Kenyan villa and she did not appear pregnant, although we don’t know when it was filmed. My assumption would be surrogacy or gestational carrier, but it’s her business and who knows.

    Awww I’m happy for her!

  2. savu says:

I will really enjoy seeing Naomi as a mom. I think she’ll be a great parent, but it will also be hilarious! The amount of germs when you have a bébé… she will not love that, although I’m sure she has help too. Good for her. Happy news!

    • Brittney B says:

Was that a Moira Rose reference? 😂

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Isn’t Naomi the one with anger issues? Didn’t she get in a lot of trouble for throwing a phone at someone? If she hasn’t had anger management therapy and gotten it under control, I worry about the first time the child cries for hours or misbehaves!

      • SusanRagain says:

My first thought also. Anger issues.

Hope she hires a team of excellent nannies.

  3. nicegirl says:

I’m always happy about babies. Can’t fight it.

  4. Snuffles says:

    Congratulations!

    I’m going with surrogate.

  5. Lauren says:

    I’m really happy for her!

  6. Mac says:

She will be the most stylish baby ever.

  7. Nomegusta says:

I actually love her YouTube and just her in general.

  8. HK9 says:

Congrats to her! She really seems to want this and I’m happy for her.

  9. Jane says:

I question why we’re talking about surrogacy or gestational carriers…that baby is WHITE.

    • Div says:

I’m Black. It’s not that uncommon for babies to be born very light, even looking “white”, and then turn darker There’s even a book called “One Day She’ll Darken” that refers to that…Anyway, I look like a straight up white kid in the newborn pics of me.

That said, it’s possible this is an adoption and she adopted a white child. At the end of the day, it’s not really our business and she’ll likely post more anyway.

      • savu says:

In One Day She’ll Darken, both of her biological parents were white, but she was adopted by a Black family. So she lived as a Black girl for her entire childhood, when she wasn’t Black. They’d say “one day she’ll darken” knowing that would never happen. That specific story doesn’t really have anything to do with babies looking lighter when they’re born, it was a lie they were telling everyone. But I bet it was accepted long enough because that happens all the time, where babies look so much lighter! Also “straight up white kid” made me giggle, thanks for the laugh 🙂

      • Delphine says:

Such a weird coincidence. The book you’re speaking of is by Fauna Hodel. I don’t use my real name here and I guess I might out myself but I was named after her mother. My mom lived with Tamar Hodel in 1968 when my mom was a teenage runaway. I connected with Fauna a few years before she passed and she connected me with her mom when she lived in Hawaii before passing. Both of their life stories are extraordinary. I was just talking about Fauna last night.

      • Snuffles says:

        @savu

Sounds like the plot to The Jerk. “You mean I’m gonna stay this color!?”

      • nicegirl says:

@Delphine, I’m so intrigued, and also very appreciative of your generosity in sharing this information with your fellow celebitches. Best wishes to you!

      • Detnow359 says:

Genetics are interesting. Her baby might not darken even though she is dark skinned. Some black babies gain more color while many others do not. That’s part of our magic Lol!

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@Delphine, Fauna & Tamar’s lives are a lot to digest. The things they went through are hard to comprehend. From what you know, what do you think Fauna would have felt about the I Am the Night series?

    • Snuffles says:

The baby daddy could be white. A lot of biracial children come out white, they “brown up” as they get older. Both of my brothers came out snow white and now have caramel skin.

      • Levans says:

Me too! Just a shot in the dark based on the name but Tamar Braxton? @Delphine

    • February-Pisces says:

Pigmentation can take a couple of weeks to show, so it’s really hard to tell with newborn babies.

    • Well Wisher says:

Did you see the ear of the 👶? Naomi’s origins is in Jamaica, like other Caribbean nations have people with freckles and ginger afros.

    • Lauren says:

I was born white and got darker in the weeks following my birth, my parents still laugh at the pictures saying that my birth color and my now color are nothing alike.

    • ThatgirlThere says:

I was as white as that baby when I was born and am brown as Michelle Obama. If the bebe is brown the skin will darken, or she has a light skinned bebe or a white bebe.

    • EduBois says:

And? So the baby “looks” white. And? What’s the problem? Use your words.

      SMH.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Who cares what color the baby is?

The baby is healthy and that’s all that important.

    • Nev says:

COLORISM in full effect. Do your homework before you talk.

    • Anna says:

Wow @Jane just wow. You don’t know much about babies, do you? Or how skin changes over time. Or what is means when different people with different skin colors and family histories have children…? Jeezus H… Better to be quiet, truly.

    • Aud says:

Many babies are born white and darken later. My cousin has quite dark skin and her newborn son looks very white. I’m sure he’ll get darker over time.

    • Yup, Me says:

You don’t know Black people, huh?

      • Moneypenny says:

For real. This comment is clearly from someone who has never met a black newborn.

Black mom here, both of my kids were “white” when they were born. Now they aren’t. Happens all the time.

      • TaraBest says:

@ Yup, Me. You made me laugh out loud! That’s the only response needed to this comment.

      • New_Kay says:

This comment is everything. This is one of my pet peeves. These ignorant comments when Black babies are born light or very near white like my daughter was. We can birth the rainbow, because the history of slavery and colonialism is etched in our DNA.

    • RandomPerson says:

Why do you care? Or why does it matter to you? Wait, are you trollin? Lol well played.

On the other hand, I now understand that it’s fine when we woke people wonder about this baby’s skin color. It’s different.

    • Severine says:

      Perhaps the father is white.

    • Normades says:

Annnddd……? I’m half Asian and look really Asian. My daughter is my biological daughter and she’s very white. I got mistaken for the nanny a ton of times. Even if she wasn’t my biological daughter these kinds of comments are totally ignorant.

      • goofpuff says:

I’m “full Asian’ and my kids are half. My first born was born with very blue eyes and blonde hair! (My husband has blue eyes and blonde hair) He had it for 3 months before they darkened but the total confusion from people was real. Like my obgyn was surprised at his birth lol.

      • Normades says:

I get it. One of my friends is half and has blue eyes which people say isn’t possible but it is. My daughter had bright red hair, vibrant blue eyes and almost translucent pale skin. She did “darken” to light brown hair and green eyes but everyone still marvels how we don’t “look alike” and that’s annoying af.

It was funny in that Persuasion post about Henry Golding. He and Dakota Johnson could absolutely be blood related.

    • Nina says:

      So?

    • Kynesgrove89 says:

Who cares what color the baby is? I’m half black half white and was born pale pale pale. I got darker as a child and now in my thirties I look very light skin Hispanic. Skin is skin and genetics can be weird af.

  10. Annaloo. says:

Oh, NAOMI! I’m super thrilled for her! She is my favorite model of all time

  11. Becks1 says:

Aw, that’s exciting news! Congratulations to the new mom!

  12. Jules says:

She has a baby and all you can think about is the fashion she will inherit? Whaaat??!

    • Snuffles says:

Yup. I guess I’m shallow because I want that baby’s first steps to be on a runway. 😜

      • BayTampaBay says:

I am shallow too! If Naomi was my mother, I would be rubbing hands anticipating growing up and getting my hands on her closets full of vintage couture.

My grandmother had to lock-up her vintage silver to keep my hands off of it whenever I came to visit! LOL! LOL!

    • Christina says:

Baby’s mama is an ICON. This beautiful baby will inherit Black History. Her mommy is one of the biggest international superstar models of her time, and she smashed open doors for girls who are chocolate brown and every shade. I don’t worry about the baby having love and security. Naomi’s mom is a brilliant, loving lady. Naomi had an great, loving example. So I cheer this baby archiving and wearing mommy’s treasure trove.

      • Meghan says:

Well there are 2 things that could happen to derail sweet little baby girl getting her hands on all of Naomi’s stuff- she absolutely hates it and wants no part of it, or the tragedy of my life- she doesn’t wear the same size as Naomi.

My mom is obsessed with shoes and has a very nice collection but she wears an 8.5 and I wear a 7. As much as I try to make it happen, I just can’t wear her shoes.

    • Maria says:

This won’t be an ordinary closet, lol. This would be like if Elizabeth Taylor only had one child and left all her jewelry to them.

  13. PeacefulParsley says:

Ok, I’ll be the asshole: I hope she’s learned how to be patient and more emotionally stable than past new stories have indicated.

    • AlpineWitch says:

Yeah, exactly… weird that everyone has not remembered she was actually abusive in several occasions and did community service in one case. I hope she has changed and wish that kid the best.

      • Jules says:

Oh I remember, I think Naomi has worked overtime to change her public image. Maybe and hopefully she has really changed, as parenting will surely test one’s patience.

      • Lara says:

When beautiful women are awful it’s easier for the public to forgive and forget.

    • Hell Nah! says:

@Peaceful Parsley – thanks for being the asshole. I was thinking along the same lines…like, “Naomi Campbell has a baby? Umm, is this a good idea?”

@Lara – so very true! Excellent point.

    • Chaine says:

Thanks being the bad guy! My first thought was, uh oh, this is going to be a Mommy Dearest book in about 25 years.

    • FYI says:

Yes, this is a person who throws phones and temper tantrums — and is completely unapologetic about it. She hangs with Russian mobsters. I mean…. what?! All the joy, I guess?!

    • Christina says:

Peaceful, you have a point. But Naomi was a dearly loved child, and I think she will be a wonderful mom. She had a lovely example in her own accomplished, loving mom. Most people grow with their baby.

    • Soupie says:

Thank you PeacefulParsley. I didn’t have to be first. As the daughter of a highly narcissistic mother, I feel for this baby. I hope that Naomi has sufficiently matured and mellowed. Childrearing is HARD. Especially for single mothers even with nannies and other help.

And what about that Lolita Express roster on which she appears?

    • rosie says:

So, I’m rethinking every news story I ever read by British media re. Naomi being an asshole. After the Meghan smear, I am reevaluating all news out of Britain – tabloids and MSM, especially if it concerned a successful black woman like Naomi. The same Angry Black Woman trope used against Naomi has also been successfully repeated against Meghan. so how much of the Naomi stories were created by the tabloids. How much did they pay people to say these ugly things about Naomi, the same way they have offered people in Meghan’s past money to make up smear stories?

      • iconoclast59 says:

@rosie, good point. Also, Naomi is at the top of her profession. Many people in that position have a reputation for being somewhat particular and demanding. About a man, they’ll say, “There’s a man who knows what he wants. Isn’t that great?!”, but if it’s a woman like Naomi, they say, “What a nasty b***h! Who does she think she is?!?”

    • minx says:

I thought the same thing.Hopefully she got help and/or mellowed a bit over the years.

    • milliemollie says:

I know someone who does custom-made furniture for her and according to them, she’s very nice, at least to them.

  14. Midge says:

I’m sorry happy for her. And let’s be clear, society doesn’t blink an eye when 50 year old dude becomes a parent.

  15. Lightpurple says:

I once encountered Naomi in the Louvre food court. She marched up to the rotisserie chicken counter, picked up the tray of food that the woman in front of me had just ordered, and stormed off, without paying, shouting: “Don’t you know who I am?” (In English) at the poor, sputtering woman, who did not speak English, did not know who she was, and wanted her chicken back.

Best wishes for the baby, she’s in for quite the adventure!

    • FYI says:

No offense at all, but did this really happen!? If so, that’s kinda mind-blowing! The entitlement!

    • Chaine says:

I love this completely random celeb encounter story. hilarious

    • original_kellybean says:

I LOVE that story. I hope it’s true.

    • Snuffles says:

      That sounds completely made up.

    • Christina says:

Lightpurple, you have been pretty reliable and smart as long as I’ve read this blog, so I’m gonna believe you!

May Naomi NOT teach that to the baby.

    • rosie says:

I do not believe this. Sounds like another British Karen trying to smear a successful black woman as the angry black woman. Did models like Naomi even eat back in the day? And in a food court? The Louvre food court? Packed with tourists? Naomi?! Go make up a better story.

    • FHMom says:

Umm. Lightpurple has been on this site for a while. I believe every word of this.

    • Lemons says:

I think a younger Naomi would have definitely popped off like this. An older Naomi may do something similar, but it would take more than being hungry.

I do think she has mellowed out and feels she is recognized for what she does and is being compensated appropriately. That WASN’T the case for a VERY long time while her friends were getting PAID, so I can only imagine what that does to your ego. It’s good to see that she is in a better place. Congrats on the babyyyy! I do hope she has her genes. I want to see a Naomi baby ❤️

    • Normades says:

I need more context here. I can’t imagine her eating (first of all eating) in a food court with other people around.

      • Nina says:

Could have been a drag queen dressed as Naomi, pulling a publicity stunt. Thinking of the series, Pose. Love that show.

  16. February-Pisces says:

Aww congratulations, that’s amazing news, really happy for her. I’m glad she has made it happen. Regardless of what methods she used to have the baby, I hope it gives other childless women of a certain age hope, that it’s never too late and there are options out there to be explored. Congratulations Naomi 🥳

  17. TheOriginalMia says:

    I’m very happy for her.

  18. Seraphina says:

Wonderful news. Congrats to mom and baby.

  19. Lara says:

Good luck to that baby. Let’s hope Naomi doesn’t throw a phone at it or sell it off to one of the Russian oligarchs she likes hanging out with.

    • rosie says:

Again buying into the British tabloids’ Angry Black Woman trope. They have been doing this to successful blacks (and others) for a long time.

  20. Léna says:

With the wording of the announcement “choosen me”, I’d go with adoption. But who knows, and truly who cares. She is just welcoming a child in her family! Congrats

  21. Div says:

Aw, she seems to have mellowed and I hope she and her baby are very happy.

  22. Amy Bee says:

I’m happy for her. I know she used to talk about having a baby but I thought she had given up on that. It’s good to see her dream has been realised.

  23. Nev says:

    Yayyyy QUEEN.

  24. Jayna says:

Aw. I adore Naomi. At 50, she is still one of the top models in the world, and puts the youngsters to shame on the runway. I also believe she’s dealt with her anger issues. She’s a true original. I love her videos about how she used to wipe down the plane before COVID and her routine doing that and her beauty routines.

What a new season in her life with this little one. I’m happy for her.

  25. EveV says:

Aw, I’m so happy for Naomi! That baby is going to be fierce! Congrats!

  26. Imara219 says:

I can’t believe she’s 50. It’s exciting that she’s a mom. It seemed like she wanted to do things in what she perceived as the traditional “right” way by finding a husband first but her relationships all deteriorated. Congrats to her for her new bundle of joy.

  27. Jillian says:

I just want to know the baby’s name, I’m sure it will be devastatingly stylish like Naomi herself

  28. Sof says:

Oh, I’m so glad for her. Who cares if she was pregnant, adopted, or became a mum via surrogacy. In a world so horrible, it’s always great to hear good news, spread the love.

Now, on a superficial note: As the years go by, I get more and more interested in people’s fashion archives, and omg, I’m dying to see Niomi’s. Or Iman’s. Or Claudia’s. Or any supermodel, tbh. What’s the criteria? Did they keep everything? I think the only one that I heard speaking about this was Cindy Crawford, she said she didn’t take or keep much stuff, but commented that the other models kept everything after the shows.

    • Snuffles says:

I would TOTALLY pay money to go to a fashion/super model museum. Like a permanent one similar to the exhibits they put together every year for the Met Gala. I remember going to Versailles to see a fashion exhibit of historical gowns and it was to die for!

  29. Christina says:

She is not perfect, but this makes me happy. Thanks for covering this.

  30. Just A Thought says:

    So happy for Naomi.

  31. Keri says:

Yeah the colour comment was quite stupid. My sister and her husband are both super dark and when my niece was born she was sooooooo light almost white…fast forward five years and she is as dark as her parents. As someone else pointed out though, it doesn’t matter. Only health does.

  32. teehee says:

Oh that gives me hope, here I am 38 soon and worried cos I’ve been infertile my whole life. People act like you have one foot in the grave if you’re over 35…. and here she is at 50 with a child.

    GO GET EM GIRL

    • FHMom says:

I had a baby at 43. You are a youngster.

    • minx says:

Mine were born when I was 39 and 47. Don’t give up!

    • PeacefulParsley says:

Had my one and only at 46. Get/be/stay healthy and you’ll be fine.

    • Alibeebee says:

@TEEHEE i just had my baby at 45 i turn 46 in july ( my first after 4 miscarriages) it was a natural spontaneous pregnancy and she’s perfect 😍 .. she did come early at 23 weeks and is in NICU but shes here and getting stronger.! So 38 is possible and doable

      Congratulations Naomi

  33. jferber says:

Even Naomi’s dear friend, Iman, said, “She’s a bitch, but she brings it.” Congratulations to her. I hope she has an army of nannies to help out.

  34. murt says:

Congrats to her! There is an amazing interview she did recently (end of April) w/ Iman on her channel – she looks pregnant (and gorgeous) in the interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8xDM5NxKG0

  35. Sarcasm101 says:

Good for her. Too bad this wasn’t ten years ago. I always feel nervous for the child bc the parent will be 80 when the child is 30.

  36. TeeMajor says:

    Congrats Naomi!!

I ran into her when she was in her 20’s in Chgo, very polite and we both were getting entrees to go- at a nice eatery. I did not realize who she was until both of our entrees was ready and I smiled and she did too. I told her she was just tooo gorgeous and she said I was too.

for yrs I’ve wanted to run into her again and say “remember when you were at…
    she is my fav supermodel.

funny story after I ran into her, I then a few minutes later saw George Clinton, drunk and high on something. I hugged him w/my Naomi memories in my head and entree in my hand.

  37. WTF says:

From one tall b*tch that wouldn’t hesitate to open a can of whoop a$$ back in my day, to another CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

  38. Natasha says:

I’ve been watching Naomi’s YouTube channel and I thought she was a lot nicer than I expected- I think this baby makes sense, it’s changed her life already. Good for her! She deserves love and happiness
