Oh no, the Sussexes are shutting down MWX, their UK-based foundation

Duke of Sussex and Duchess of Sussex arriving at Mansion house

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not going back to the UK. Maybe Harry will visit for funerals or coronations, but I doubt Meghan will travel there for a few years. They’re in brand-building mode here in America and the Archewell brand is already very strong. They co-chaired the massively successful Vax Live event. Harry and Meghan’s fundraiser for Archie’s second birthday has raised $1.88 million for Covid vaccines through the Vaccine Alliance. They’re partnering with Procter & Gamble to fund projects for Girls Inc., Harvest Home, and National Women’s Law Center. They are Sussex Global. So there’s no need for Sussex Dusty Island. Harry & Meghan are formally shutting down the proto-Archewell they began in the UK in 2019.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now formally shutting down their UK-based Sussex Royal company in another sign that they are severing ties with Britain. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have appointed a voluntary liquidator to wind up the London-based charity, which they renamed MWX Trading in August last year.

Documents filed with Companies House today show that the couple, who now live in a £11million mansion in Montecito, California, have requested to wind up MWX. They have never revealed what MWX stands for, although suggestions include Markle Windsor or Mountbatten Windsor, referring to their son Archie’s name.

On August 5, 2020, the couple officially changed the charity’s name from ‘Sussex Royal The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ to MWX Foundation. This came after Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, agreed to stop using their Sussex Royal brand after officially stepping down as senior royals on April 1 last year. The couple established the company MWX Trading Ltd in August 2019, naming their now-former lawyer Gerrard Tyrrell of Harbottle and Lewis as its secretary.

[From The Daily Mail]

There are salty British people complaining about how this is just one more “signal” that Poor Harry is “cutting ties” with Britain. Like, have they been paying attention? He cut ties a while ago, when y’all were abusing his pregnant wife. Harry and Meghan even gave y’all the chance to keep them on part-time, but the Queen and Charles were too short-sighted to take them up on the offer. So here we are.

Speaking of salty British people, the Daily Express did a lil’ poll of their readers to see if any of them were interested in watching Harry’s AppleTV+ series, The Me You Can’t See. 98% of respondents said that “in light of Harry’s recent outbursts [they] would not view the programmes.” OH NO. Whatever will AppleTV do??

Oh no, Apple stock will crash. Just like the British Monarchy.

    • AlpineWitch says:

      “Just like the British Monarchy”
If only! From your lips to God’s ears…

I wanted to just add that anyone reading the Daily Express is by default a white supremacist/racist, so its readers boycotting the series was obvious to anyone paying attention. I would add Daily Mail readers too.
I don’t think Apple tv will be particularly devastated by this news 😂

    • VS says:

I know just like no one was going to listen to #ArchewellAudio or watch the interview with Oprah or buy #TheBench…..they will watch; they always DO

      • equality says:

This was just a poll of Daily Express readers so not really a balanced and credible poll for the whole of the country.

      • KT says:

Heh, Daily Express readers wouldn’t know how to access Apple+TV anyway. Assuming they’ve got a SmartTV they’d need to get their grandchildren to show them how to even find it among the apps, let alone sign up to watch anything on it.

The Daily Express is full of adverts for chunky mobile phones with nice big buttons, resin figurines of ladies in big dresses, and ‘collectible’ plates.

My parents still buy it every Saturday because they like the TV-guide magazine that comes with it, and the crossword.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Alexa. Play Taylor Swift’s We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together. The End.

  2. Lexistential says:

Good for them. Wind that company down and continue making Archewell the superstar global phenomenon it is destined to become. And I hope Meghan doesn’t set foot in the UK for a few years.

    • Chica says:

One of the issues of not going to Britain is the assumed complication of their baby girl not being christened by the Church of England. That can’t be done anywhere else but in the U.K. I read that if she never is, she can’t be in the line of succession and apparently can’t be “royal” therefore excluding her from her birthright when Tampon becomes king. I don’t know how accurate this is, but this is what a British historian said on Twitter.

Anyone with by info feel free to clarify or add details.

      • Becks1 says:

I thought they changed it so you could be in the line of succession even without being part of the Church of England? But she could also be christened at any point, it doesnt have to be when she’s 3 months or 6 months old.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Chica: But the Episcopal Church is part of the Anglican Communion so if the baby is christened in the US she will still be accepted as a member of the Church of England.

      • BlueToile says:

Oooh, Amy Bee, that is interesting. How fun would it be to have the Christening in Cali? I see Oprah, Gayle, Orlando Bloom, as well as some of Harry’s old friends, and all the Montecito neighbors walking into the church (all looking A+) for the private ceremony. Kate would go into shock and cry her white women’s tears because she is not hanging with Beyonce, but stuck mingling with boring British upper crust who hate her. Will can be his incandescent self. The British media will write even more unhinged articles saying how sad Harry really is inside, etc. I am not even a celebrity worshiper, but this would be fun to see.

      • anotherlily says:

As Amy Bee says, the Episcopal Church is part of the Anglican Communion so there is no problem. Also, she does not have to be CofE to be in the line of succession. The only barrier is against Roman Catholics.

      • Humbugged says:

Or they could go to Canada and get it done there

      • Exhausted says:

I’m pretty sure there are European royals who are in line to the throne who aren’t baptised in the UK.

      • notasugarhere says:

True, Exhausted. There are many non-UK royals who are in the line of succession to the UK throne and who are not part of the CoE. Norway, Sweden, Netherlands just to name a few.

    • GrnieWnie says:

I bet they’re trying to establish residency in the US.

      • jazzbaby1 says:

        She’s a citizen.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

M&A already are citizens and so will baby girl Sussex. Harry could be on a spousal visa. If it was a long planned exit they would have had time to apply and get approved for the spousal visa. He’s also working so he likely has a green card. He could have gotten that prior to entering the US.

  3. Eurydice says:

But how many bathrooms do they have?

  4. Victoria says:

They should invite Brandy over to hold a concert in one of their luxurious bathrooms. Home girl can slay those powder room acoustics like nobody’s business. Such a Queen.

  5. Cecilia says:

Lmao yeah the polls say that now but daily mail readers (which are the ppl polled and thus not representative) will be hate watching.

  6. Becks1 says:

Anyone who is answering a poll about the Sussexes on the Express is probably not going to watch the series but wasn’t going to watch it anyway. Actually scratch that, they’re all going to watch it but pretend they aren’t, lol.

Sussex Global has a good ring to it.

    • lanne says:

Yeah, 98% of Brits won’t be watching. Like they didn’t watch the Oprah interview…oh wait, half the damn population watched it!

      • Amy Bee says:

They were going to the podcast either and it was the No. 1 podcast in the UK.

      • AlpineWitch says:

        “98% Brits won’t be watching”

Oh no they will because only the 2% is likely reading the Daily Express 🤣

    • Myra says:

We all know that they’re going to watch it.

    • Eurydice says:

They may not watch it, but they certainly will have a lot of opinions about what they didn’t see.

  7. Snuffles says:

They’ll all be hate watching working themselves into an outrage.

  8. AlpineWitch says:

Salty British readers of such papers gotta be salty, right?
I like to imagine Harry and Meghan privately blowing raspberries at them 😂

  9. Merricat says:

    Lol. Consequences, Bitter Island. Consequences.

  10. Over it says:

In the brits defense, it takes them a while to catch up. Slow, thy name is British media. Oh how ever will Harry and Oprah survive knowing that salty people don’t want to watch their series. Oh I know., sipping margaritas in their sumny Cali backyards while they use their millions to dry off the water droplets from the pool.

  11. Ginger says:

These polls mean nothing. It’s the opposite. The polls also said they wouldn’t watch the Oprah interview or listen to their podcast and that was false.

I’m glad they are closing things in the UK. Good for them.

  12. Leesa says:

Is it possible for the British press to write a story about H&M that doesn’t include the cost of their house?

    • ennie says:

Nah, they’ll keep doing that forever and ever, unimaginative trolls they are. They do not have anything else on them, well that and the voices in their heads.

    • AmB says:

      It’s like it’s on their auto-correct.

    • Dee says:

At some point, they will need to update the price. It’s probably worth even more already.

  13. TheOriginalMia says:

I like Sussex Global. Anyhoo…I didn’t realize their foundation had been renamed. But yeah, just one more indication they ain’t coming back.

    • Snuffles says:

      @chica

That will be the next thing the BM cling to if Harry doesn’t come to the UK for Diana’s statue unveiling.

I’ve already seen posters here a Twitter peeps just assuming that Baby Girl Sussex MUST be christened in the UK and the UK only. As if she couldn’t possibly get christened in California. Or baptized.

What I wouldn’t give to see baby girl Sussex baptized in a black church with Oprah and Tyler Perry being some of her god parents.

      • BlueToile says:

Considering how generous, kind, and protective Tyler Perry was when H&M were in crisis and danger, I think he would be a good godfather, honestly.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ BlueToilek he actually would be a fabulous godfather. Tyler Perry is such an incredible human being with his charitable work and his commitment to his staff. Perry is a man of conviction to always show up and support in any manner that he can. I truly admire him.

      • notasugarhere says:

I wish all these haters would do the tiniest scrap of research before blasting their idiocy everywhere. As Chica writes above, none of their lies about the christening are true.

  14. Seraphina says:

I’m just here to say how much I adore that first picture of them.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Hey both looked amazing that week, didn’t they! They were on cloud nine with their future ahead and the realization that they could exit Salty And Insufferable Island!! They were, and are, a dynamic couple!!

  15. molly says:

Until the queen dies, Meghan isn’t coming back.

    • BlueToile says:

Somewhere (was it Woman’s Day?) it is being reported that H&M want to return for the Queen’s Jubilee and it is already causing “drama.” You know…it will upstage the Q, should they be allowed on the balcony, etc. Do we believe it? 🤔 Not sure.

    • BothSidesNow says:

I don’t think that Meghan cares one way or another about coming back. Harry and Meghan are certainly going to come and go as they please, as they can leave when they want. I think that as much as Meghan and Harry are still so close to TQ, she would be happy for them to return for visits as much as possible. I think that TQ truly admires Meghan, as a woman of philanthropy, and willingly serve her duty. Their duty in representing the monarchy was brilliant, which is what matters to TQ. I think the only thing that rattles TQ is the ongoing rage with Baldimort and Keen Doucheness, since Phillip was basically in charge of family matters.

      • BlueToile says:

Eh, I am not sure the Queen admires anyone that much except maybe herself. She had plenty of opportunities to rein in the press and family, but chose to use her capital to shield Andrew at the same time she should have been taking care of her “favorite” grandson and his little family. I think there is also a very real question we could ask about her cognitive abilities the past decade or so. This entire situation could have ended differently if she was as kind-hearted as people want to make her out to be.

  16. IMARA219 says:

I am just here to say that MWX, if it stood for Markle Windsor Extension, would have been a cool foundation name versus Archewell, which still seems awkward to me. I didn’t mind Archie as a name for their son, but the foundation name doesn’t click. I’m glad the foundation is a success and that they are building a global brand.

  17. Carmen-JamRock says:

Obviously, in the first instance, they converted the name from Sussex Royal to MWX Foundation as they couldnt use Sussex Royal after March 31/2020. They changed the name to MWX Foundation on April 1, 2020, just so that they still had a legal entity to collect the revenues, via The Royal Foundation, from the continued sale of the cookbook. So, after the 2-year agreement they had with the Grenfell Tower ladies to fund them during that time has come to an end, H&M have no more reason to hv any of their legal entities domiciled in salty island.

    • Amy Bee says:

This sounds logical and is most likely right.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

Ah. I didn’t know there was a 2 year agreement with the Hubb ladies about their profits. Glad to know they are no longer obligated to share the funds with the Royal Foundation.

  18. Amy Bee says:

Further proof that the British press still hasn’t accepted that the Sussexes won’t be coming back and are happy with their lives in the US.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Yes Amy Bee!! I think we should inform Duncan Larcombe, since he seems to think within his delusions that they are incredibly unhappy, or Harry is.
Hey Duncan…Harry has left the building……and he ain’t comin back!!

  19. Liz version 700 says:

The Sussexes just usurped the usurpers by announcing their next community based outreach center will be in India!

    • BothSidesNow says:

Wow! That’s fabulous!! I hope that they can spread some great work and encourage others to follow suit!!

    • Chrissy (The Original) says:

Wow, that’s great and a Commonwealth country too. The need is certainly there and I hope they have great success.

  20. equality says:

How is this such big news? Why would they need two foundations when they have one they are using to benefit people around the world?

  21. Over it says:

Kaiser, their foundation website says that 3 million dollars was raised for Archie second birthday. I think they recently updated it.

  22. BnlurNforever says:

I love whenever they close down something in the UK, first it makes sense to have everything in the US and 2nd it throws cold water on the faces of the deluded, if only briefly. This entire thing is just so ridiculous I often wonder how the RR interact with regular folks in the off time, or are people they know similarly deluded? In any case, good for HnM and god speed in all they will do going forward.

  23. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I read a story this weekend about Charles being desperate to carve out a role for them in the UK (as if he hasn’t had 18 months to do that). All I could think of is the idea they’re no longer interested and they’ll probably shut down everything in England just to make that point that the UK is no longer home.

    • Liz version 700 says:

Yep agree this is a “ don’t call us well call you…never”

    • MsIam says:

I think the next step should be to let go of Frogmore Cottage. If they go back they can rent a place or if its just one of them, stay in a hotel. I wonder if they’ll take that step after the queen passes on.

      • equality says:

After paying for the renovations, the heck if I’d release it. I’d keep lending it out to Eugenie, then if she moves find someone else.

      • Kkat says:

Not after paying all that they shouldn’t.
They can lease it out and keep it for their kids

      • notasugarhere says:

Pointless to just give it up after spending millions on it. They have the legal lease. They can sell that sublease or keep the property and keep letting Eugenie live there.

  24. jferber says:

That second picture of Harry and Meghan sitting together is stunning for a number of reasons. They are both beautiful and look SO much in love. So, so romantic. Yes, they HAVE found true love and they are happy together. That picture puts all the British Bullshit to rest. And it makes the “love” of the Cambridges seem pale, weak and dowdy in comparison. I have NEVER seen a similar picture of Will and Kate. Never. And we never will.

Like others, I’m sick of all the Brit rags ALWAYS naming the price tag of the Montecito house. Why not put price tags on all the freebies Will and Kate get from their government? How much does THEIR house cost the British people? How much money do THEY suck up from British pockets, while many live in Council Houses (I assume it’s housing for the poor like “the projects” in U.S. cities).

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

jferber, what I find amusing about the BM putting a price tag on H&M’s home is that it’s actually rather coarse — might I say vulgar. But the vulgarity is owned by the BM, not H&M. Not sure if that was the intention, but it comes through loud and clear to me.

  25. Ihatestupidpeople says:

Hahahah. As if they won’t watch. What a joke.

  26. I am pretty sure the Harry and Oprah Apple show will trend in the UK and US. And the Royal Rota and William will again be insanely furious. Incandescent with rage, as you say.
