Palace aides were ‘horrified’ at Duchess Meghan’s ‘trashy’ NYC baby shower

Meghan Markle is see leaving the Met Breuer Museum ahead of her baby shower

When the Duchess of Sussex was pregnant with Archie, she went to New York with some friends in February 2019. She was flown from London to NYC by Amal Clooney, in a Clooney-organized private plane, and Meghan met up with friends from Northwestern, friends from Hollywood, friends from Canada, and Serena Williams. This was called a “baby shower,” and a baby shower was part of it, but mostly it seemed like a nice girls’ trip for Meghan to get the f–k out of the toxic press cycle of Salty White Folk Isle. We also know – now – that Meghan had been suicidal just weeks before this trip, that she felt crushed by the smear campaign being waged against her. She she had a nice trip back to America, spent some time with her friends, got some gifts for the baby, and just relaxed. Of course the British media had a f–king meltdown about it. According to Page Six, palace aides were definitely leaking against Meghan at the time too, because they were so appalled by a woman spending time with her friends.

Palace aides “rolled their eyes” and were “spitting out their tea” over Meghan Markle’s New York baby shower while she was pregnant with son Archie, royal insiders claim. Royal biographer Ingrid Seward described the 2019 affair as “trashy” with its starry guest list and swanky location at the Mark Hotel on the Upper East Side.

“They walked in through the front entrance carrying these enormous bags from the most expensive shops in New York,” Seward said in the documentary “A Very Royal Baby: From Cradle to Crown” (via the Daily Mail). “Crowds gathered because they were all celebrities, there was Gayle King from CBS, Serena Williams and Amal Clooney.”

In 2019, Markle, who is now expecting a baby girl with husband Prince Harry, flew from the UK to New York to meet up with a handful of famous pals for the gathering, which was hosted by Williams and Clooney.

“I remember speaking to a palace aide at the time who rolled their eyes, they were horrified that something so common was happening within the House of Windsor,” royal expert Omid Scobie said in the Channel 4 documentary. He added, “We had never seen someone throw this very lavish affair to celebrate the impending arrival of a baby.”

At the time of the baby shower, reports surfaced claiming the royal family was unhappy with the party. In February 2019, a former chief aide to Princess Diana told The Post that the Duchess of Sussex was running the risk of “alienating” the people who were meant to be looking after her at Kensington Palace.

“This is a clear sign that Meghan thinks that being a royal Duchess is about celebrity — not royalty,” Patrick Jephson, Diana’s longtime private secretary, said of the reported $500,000 baby shower.

Scobie reiterated that sentiment Wednesday, saying, “It’s fair to say that the optics of the somewhat flashy shower did not go down well with certain individuals at the palace.” He added, “While the trip had been a hit with Meghan, senior courtiers back in the UK were spitting out their morning tea when they saw her lavish baby shower thrown by friends turn into a media circus with what looked like carefully stage-managed paparazzi walks of the duchess in big black sunglasses from her hotel to her car and a laundry list of insider party details reported by US press.”

[From Page Six]

The British press was actually mad about the fact that they weren’t the ones getting insider details, and that the American media was getting access. The British press was mad that New York paparazzi were getting all of these photos of Meghan and her friends. The British press was mad that Meghan was sending them a signal that they could not control her or put her in a box or erase her. Same with the palace aides and their nitpicking – for them, this was all about controlling her so they could erase her and manipulate her. What Meghan was doing was showing all of them that she had powerful friends and allies. She was showing them that she’s more than what the toxic island says she is.

gahahahah! as if the yorks didn’t invite every celebrity they have ever met to that wedding. and as if william isn’t trying to grab every celebrity to join his eco prize. things are only bad when meghan does them, particularly since she does them better and honestly looks much classier than the rest of that family with bad teeth and no hair.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Yup. The very supportive and loving courtiers and BRF. The whole lot of them are a disgrace. A bigger disgrace was Keen OfWilliam flashing her arse several times on official visits but funny how that gets buried.

    • My3cents says:

Yeah, much more classier to be hanging out and partying with celebrity Pedophiles.

    • Hannah says:

In 2019 (I’m old enough to remember 2019 y’all), Beatrice and Eugenie went to a baby shower at the Arts Club in Mayfair. Very expensive part of London. The news story said baby showers were becoming popular in England. The guest of honor wore a sash across her chest saying “Mummy to Be” and carried out a diaper cake. Classy. I guess it’s okay if the white royals do it. But god forbid Meghan have a nice party.

  2. Stacy Dresden says:

Trashy because she isn’t English and white. Sure. At least Meghan has actual friends

    • tammy says:

and shocking that an actress/celebrity has actual celebrity friends. That seems to piss off everyone so bad.

      • SarahCS says:

I think one part of the BM’s (and BRF’s) anger and horror reaction to this was the big reminder that she 1. has legit friends and 2. these friends include some serious power players for all that they label them ‘celebrities’ in a derogatory manner.

    • Elizabeth Phillips says:

“they were so appalled by a woman spending time with her friends.”

They were especially appalled to be reminded that she HAD friends, when they had been pushing the nonsensical story that she couldn’t keep friends.

  3. Snuffles says:

Let’s be real, they were furious that she got to spend precious time with her friends after isolating her for months making her suicidal. I’m sure she was showered with love and it helped get her through. That was the last thing The Firm wanted.

  4. Chill says:

Well, M & H got the last laugh. They control the narrative now.

  5. L84Tea says:

Why are they even talking about this??

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

That’s the million dollar question. Distraction techniques.

    • My3cents says:

Because they gave nothing new so they’ll just keep recycling old stories? Got to fill that word count somehow.

    • LaraK says:

Because they have to talk about H & M to sell papers? At least this way they are telling the truth – I’m sure palace aides were horrified. Unreal.

    • Lemons says:

I had the same exact question. If they are trying to work towards peace, why do we need to know AGAIN that the courtiers thought the baby shower was GAUCHE.

Working with/for the courtiers/RR must be unbearable. They all have probably overextended their mortgages, so leaks like these pay the bills. The crisis managers are probably pulling their hair out.

    • That’s my thinking, L84TEA…. THIS?! The 🐀Rota and the leaking 👑🐀s have only got this? Pathetic they have to reach all the way back to 2019 to find something to trash Meghan with. They prove themselves pathetic with every story like this.

  6. Merricat says:

    Palace aides are trash.

    • Eleonor says:

The only thing these “aides” seem capable to do is pursing their lips and rolling their eyes.
      Jeeez.

    • Midge says:

Seriously, staff calling others “common” is a hoot.

    • EllenOlenska says:

Maybe someone should remind those “oh so important” aides that as far as they are concerned…the rest of the world sees aides as “the help”.

  7. Sofia says:

Are they seriously still annoyed/upset at a baby shower that happened 2+ years ago? They thought it was gauche and trashy, fine but it’s been 2+ years and she’s not even a working royal anymore.

Get over it and move on.

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Yep. A group of friends having a get together to celebrate another friends new baby – trashy and gauche.
Racism and trying to drive a first time mother to suicide – all fine, nothing to see here. Oh look buttons and tiaras and corgis too.

The BRF and the UK media can find the largest spikiest cactus known to man and insert it where the sun don’t shine.

      • Gail Hirst says:

This is funny to me horribly because after I had moved my (spikey) pencil cactus to the window ledge last fall, I forgot and opened the curtains with a whoosh and stabbed my finger badly. It blew up in a very painful boil. When the boil blew, I guess it removed the cactus spine, cause then it healed quite naturally and quickly. But Oh, for a couple of days it hurt big time.
So I flinched “where the sun don’t shine” involuntarily when I read your last sentence … and my involuntary reaction then made me laugh.
Thanks, @Zapp for that reminder, the intensity of your curse, and then, the giggle.

    • notasugarhere says:

They’re priming the pump for people to get angry if there is a shower for Baby Girl Sussex. Tabloids will spin dozens of stories about a lavish baby shower, that may not even take place, to get click revenue.

      • MsIam says:

Why would anyone in the UK get angry if the Sussexes have another baby shower? Its not their dime, even the first one wasn’t their dime. I guess you mean the UK press because they won’t get to cover it, lol?

      • They already ran that up the flagpole. I saw a headline several weeks ago about Meghan throwing a MILLION DOLLAR baby shower in Calif. 🤦🏻‍♀️😎🤦🏻‍♀️ Guess that was too way out there for even them to run with.

    • Myra says:

They should know about trashy, didn’t the queen participate in a reality tv programme and her family did that knockout show or something? Meghan’s baby shower was behind closed doors so how can they say it was tacky?

      • notasugarhere says:

In fairness, they were torn to shreds for Edward’s Its A Royal Knockout charity competition thing.

      • equality says:

But Edward’s show made them look more human ( I guess that’s what they hate) and raised a lot of money for charity. It made it seem that they actually had a sense of humor.

    • Margaret says:

Well kate wasn’t invited, and neither were the others. So they are still bitter. Also let’s not forget the queen and the ffqc, was not on the front of that vogue cover.
These people are pieces of work, I personally can’t stand any of them. Not that they care, but saying it out loud feels good. Lol.

  8. Izzy says:

HOLY FORKBALLS, are they still banging on about it? A baby shower? Disgusting! Wearing sunglasses outside in daylight? How dare she!!

  9. Lauren says:

They were spitting their tea because Meghan and Harry had caught on to the leakage and wanted to know exactly who it was so they started giving out wrong info on purpose. Surely enough Emily Andrews wrote a whole article about the baby shower who was there and what they did and the baby shower was yet to happen.

    • Betsy says:

I missed that. Some of these things that people talk about I’d like to read more about but I just know I’ll never find the relevant articles.

  10. lanne says:

$500,000 is total bullshit. $250,000 is what they estimate is the cost of the round trip flight on the Clooney jet–a trip that Amal Clooney invited Meghan on. That probably includes the cost of the pilot and jet fuel. None of which Meghan is responsible for. The venue was $75,000 hotel list price paid for by Serena Williams, likely not at list price if she was charged at all.

They…made cookies and decorated flowers. The true cost of the baby shower was likely 5-10,000. Expensive, but not for rich folks. Again, it’s distortion to whip up hatred against Meghan. All they have left to do is repeat the lies they tell over and over again because they don’t have any new material.

This is why the Sussexes have to spend millions on security every year. The British media is out for blood, and they wouldn’t mind if some crazy exacted revenge.

Every time the royals feed these vicious trolls cookies and tea at their parties, every time their courtiers call these folks and whisper in their ears, they endorse the tabloids words and their methods. What’s going to happen when the Queen dies, and the tabloids turn on Charles and William. The beast always has to get paid.

    • VS says:

even if it was $10m who care? what’s taxpayers’ money? Her friends organized it! so it is THEIR money!
As soon as a minority has something nice, there are a lot of people who get triggered by that simple fact!

      • Mel says:

THIS! If this was Kate Middleton, they’d be going on and on about how loyal her friends are, how much she deserves their loyalty because she’s a great friend and how much fun was had. Ridiculous.

      • JT says:

I think people were also mad because they know that Kate doesn’t actually have friends who WOULD do this. Who would wisk her away on a private plane for a girls’ weekend? Nobody ever talks about Kate hanging out with anybody but her sister, and I don’t think they are as close as claimed, or friends of Will, that he probably boinked.

      • Merricat says:

        ITA, JT

      • Larisa says:

@VS, no, people get triggered by excessive displays of wealth all the time here. Just the other day there were a lot of people talking about how Gates children will be dine with “just 10 million”, for instance, and they aren’t a minority. There are plenty of other examples. If you can’t think of any, perhaps we aren’t the biased ones.

      • Sofia says:

@Jt: I agree with you. Does Kate have a friend (besides her sister) that would treat her to a night out? Someone who would throw a baby shower for her (again, besides her sister)? I know she’s got a few people who’s names are throw around when you ask about Kate’s friends but how many of them are actually *her* friends rather than friends of William’s/William’s friends or people she befriended trying to get into his circle? And by her friends I mean people who are like her as “Kate” and are friends with “Kate” rather than people who are friends with her or like her because she’s “HRH Catherine The Duchess of Cambridge”?

You never really hear about Kate’s life outside of royal duties besides she’s a hands on mother who likes sports like tennis.

      • Maria says:

Larisa – an inheritance is not a display of wealth. And it’s not a baby shower. These discussions are unrelated.

      • LaraK says:

They also act like they are burning the money. The rich SHOULD spend more money – it puts money back into the economy. That money went to people who created and sold the presents, hotel staff, transport, security…..
I’d rather they spend the money and increase common wealth, than sit on the money and turn their nose up at everyone.

      • VS says:

@Larisa … I was not talking about CB but the people who went to trash Meg to a tabloid trash! not the people here

    • Tessa says:

People would have had a Special Issue if Kate had a baby shower when she was expecting George. And they trot out the children for PR and did so a lot last year.

    • Nina says:

JEEEEZ. Enough already. We don’t care, the world doesn’t care, no one cares. We should all be so lucky to have friends who can splash out like that when we have children. These ladies are all multi-millionaires in their own right. They can do the hell what they want with their money. At least no taxpayer funds were used for it.

They just pissed because they were not invited or were allowed to attend by default as part of the help. They should continue living vicariously through PWT and Keen because that is all they deserve.

      • Becks1 says:

They are pissed because of what Kaiser said, ties into what Omid said – the US PRESS was getting the details. They were getting the scoops. the pap pics were on US soil. The US press got first dibs, I’m sure. She was supposed to give access to the BM, she refused bc of how they treated her, and she went to NYC and “gave access” to the US press.

(please note that I’m saying that from the perspective of the British media, not that I actually think Meghan was arranging pap strolls etc in NYC. But in their opinion it was the same thing. They lost out with that shower in NYC and that’s why they’re so pissed, even now. If it had been in London, with the exact same pics, exact same guests – I think we would have heard very different stories about it.)

    • Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

And they donated the flowers to a local hospital!

      • JT says:

@Sofia Meghan shown with all of her friends raving about her and how kind she is, puts into contrast how lonely Kate actually is. She has nobody and I’m sure that makes her a bit envious of Meghan. Meg’s friends will stand in the line of fire for her, put their names on the record, and defend her. Not only that, but they are rich and powerful. Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, and who know who else call Meghan a friend. Kate’s friends are….palaces sources and the coke-addled, wife beating uncles of the world.

      • Sid says:

JT, I recall that after the Oprah interview William ran out to get “friends” to defend him in that Times article, whether they were named or not. Meanwhile it was crickets for Kate. Tthere were no friends, anonymous or otherwise, popping up to defend her. Interesting to say the least.

    • Hannah says:

Even for a super-fancy private jet, how could one round trip flight from London to New York possibly be a quarter of a million dollars? Obviously I know next to nothing about private flights but that seems off.

      • JT says:

@Sid The irony is, Meghan would have been a good friend to Kate if she wasn’t so jealous and insecure. Meg is a girl’s girl and she could’ve helped Kate so much. Besides, Meghan wasn’t go around a f*ck her husband, like other’s would and did. Kate really lost out. She has nothing.

    • I have a friend with access to a private plane. I’m not buying $250k for the flight. At the most $10k.

  11. S808 says:

I remember the comments about it here were….not too great either. I was for it then and I’m still for it now especially now that we know how down she was during this time.

    • JT says:

The comments were outright ridiculous. Everyone shaming her for trying to have a good time with her girls. There were so many people calling it tacky because “that’s not how things are done in the uk.” There was so much talk of taxpayer money, knowing full well that this was organized be her very rich and powerful friends. Now we know why she did this, but it’s a shame that people needed to know she was suicidal before they could give her the benefit of the doubt.

      • S808 says:

Everyone was going on and on about optics *eye roll* yeah we shouldn’t have had to learn she was suicidal at the time to not be upset at a freaking baby shower her friends through for her and paid for. She was getting ripped apart then and THAT we knew.

      • Myra says:

I remember that. Every time I saw someone mention the optics re:Meghan I was disappointed. They knew that the decks were stacked against her so why pretend that there were any optics that would have been acceptable for her.

    • Larry says:

Seriously, let them spend their money on what they want to spend it on – that party did absolutely no harm to anyone. Would it be for me? No. Does it mean that no one else can have it? Also no. Press probably also pissed off that it was all women, some WOC, with their independent, self-made wealth who footed the bill for the party.

    • Haylie says:

And you just know that those tacky concern trolls hosted their own gender reveal gift grabs and licked melted chocolate from diapers at their own baby showers.

I’ll add those complaints to the “Tell me you hate black people without saying you hate black people” trash heap.

  12. Emily says:

So let me get this straight:

Meghan was pregnant and suicidal and her rich friends threw her a fancy party to celebrate her pregnancy and the palace aides (who knew that she was struggling) turned around and trash talked her to the press over it.

  13. Mel says:

Is it the fact that’s RF are so boring that the Press/ Palace aides are STILL talking about Megan and baby shower that happened 2yrs ago? Her friends threw a shower for her, let’s clutch all our pearls.

  14. Likeyoucare says:

They are still talking about this?
Well those clowns are still trashing Diana on behalf of charles.
What do you expect for willie’s minions will surely wont stop talking about meghan.
Charles and willie are truly the born in the same mold.

  15. Lila says:

I’m sooooo glad she got it. It was exactly what she needed in that moment. And it must have been a reminder, in a way, that things existed on the outside…media that didn’t hate them, friends that didn’t leak, freedom.

  16. Lizzie says:

There are a lot of ways to describe a baby shower when it’s not something you are used to but trashy is not one of them. At least this one wasn’t. I’d like to know what they consider trashy, was it an event in the US? Was it over the top? Perhaps, but with the interest in Meghan created by the bm there was probably no way to hold a low key event, it was always going to be a media circus.
Meghan had a nice party and they are mad they weren’t invited.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

Yep, they were mad they weren’t invited and neither was Kate probably. I’m guessing that aides, Kate and Carole didn’t like the optics of that since Good Housekeeping -friendly to Carole-had a story at the time titled, The Likely Reason Why Kate Middleton Wasn’t At Meghan Markle’s Baby Shower. Meghan’s friends were supporting Meghan and that is what really bothered the nasty lot.

    • Lila says:

IMO, the event itself wasn’t even over the top. It was a group of friends at a fancy hotel with gifts and desserts. The photographers going crazy and stalking her out is what made the whole thing look crazy.

  17. MGT12 says:

If you were following the story at the time, the estimated cost of the shower kept going up and up and up until it’s now the ludicrous $500k. The ongoing malice toward Meghan is beyond astonishing. These people are grotesque.

  18. Alexandria says:

Black people can’t spend money, don’t cha know!

I see you racists! Lie and lie. Liars.

    • Eurydice says:

They’re only allowed to spend SNAP benefits.

    • Becks1 says:

I think this was a HUGE part of the problem. Serena paid for the shower? Gayle King attended? They brought nice gifts?? WELL I NEVER.

You notice they get the angriest about Meghan when they are reminded 1) that she was a rich celebrity in her own right before marrying H and 2) that she has rich black friends. She has rich white ones too, but the black friends are the trigger.

      • sunny says:

The way people of colour are policed when they have money- particularly black people is such an trip. It stems from the deeper belief that they are undeserving and any success they have is suspicious. And that crap happens everywhere! I remember years ago, when my dad was stopped by the police not for any infraction but because they felt the need to ask him what he did for a living/how he could afford his car. And it wasn’t something outrageous he was driving just a really nice new SUV. And this happened in Canada.

God, sometimes I am so exhausted by this garbage.

      • deering24 says:

sunny–yep, funny how that works. When I was doing an office gig ages ago, I was the only WOC on staff. I took a schooner trip to Maine for vacation. The minute folks found out how much it was–and I was unfortunately naive enough to say when they asked–things started going south politically for me there.

      • Thank you SUNNY. I agree that POC are policed where Whites are given a pass.

  19. Noki says:

For people who are all about pomp and pageantry i really wouldnt call anything anyone else does tacky. I find it especially TACKY to take an hours old baby outside to a bay of the worlds media. They really need to cut that out, they say it was Charles and Di that started that tradition ,then it should end with their kids.

    • equality says:

Wonder what the bill for Trooping the Colour is. And the UK monarchy is supposed to be the most expensive in Europe to maintain.

  20. Tessa says:

where are the complaints about Andrew’s trips to Epstein’s place? ANd probably more costly. Epstein and his partner Ghislaine were traffickers.

  21. Merricat says:

Yes, it’s trashy for your girlfriends to throw you a party for your baby-to-be, but straight-up class to hound a woman to suicidal thoughts. That’s Great Britain according to the BM.

  22. Maria says:

I think Kate and her family taking over the entire Goring hotel with a big banquet the night before her wedding was tacky and nouveau riche, much more than this.
    But that’s just me.

    • notasugarhere says:

Tackier was that it turned out the whole Goring thing was likely comped or deeply discounted in exchange for later PR featuring Kate. The Middletons demanded the ‘royal discount’ for years, even before William was willing to publicly acknowledge Kate as girlfriend. That’s why Kate’s appearance at the Goring anniversary party – when she was ‘suffering from HG and couldn’t do more royal work’ – was so obvious.

  23. Amy Bee says:

Eff the Palace. They made Meghan suicidal and then had the temerity to be upset that her friends wanted to help her and take her away from that toxic environment for a few days. I have no doubt that the Palace leaked her location to the press as punishment.

    • notasugarhere says:

Makes the Jason disappearance (by the crisis managers) even more interesting.

    • ennie says:

they wanted the godparents names surely out of pure curiosity and not to try and drag them.
Those leakers are going to hell.

  24. Liz version 700 says:

So this really is the new strategy. No new stories about the Sussexes (or not enough), so they will just revisit old stories forever? Next, Meghan’s costume in her 10 year-old dance pageant was not liked by the RR.

  25. MsIam says:

Enormous bags from the most expensive shops in New York? All I saw was regular sized gift bags that would hold a layette or other baby gift. You know things most people normally gift to a baby? As far as tacky, hello, gold plated piano that looks like it belongs in Trump Tower? No wonder Trump was so enthused by the queen. The majority of people there were Meghans friends from college or childhood maybe a couple of people from Suits, according to what Gayle King said. I would say that Serena and Gayle were the “biggest” celebrities there in term of instant name recognition. I wouldn’t consider Amal Clooney a “big celebrity” in her own right, sorry. UK media is beyond toxic.

    • Scal says:

And half those ‘expensive bags’ were for 2 bridal showers and ANOTHER baby shower that was happening at the hotel at the same time. Half the gifts, flowers, chairs, linens that the media went on and on for being so expensive were for a different event

And the reason everyone saw those is because that hotel’s delivery entrance is right next to the lobby entrance. Trucks park on the street in front and come in. So the whole ‘why did she walk out the front door and not the delivery entrance’ is a bunch of BS as well. Also out the back? If she’d done that they would have gone on and on about her trying to hide something.

      • Shelley says:

They wanted her to walk out back so they could kill her. Not easy to kill when papparazzi and media are all focused on you. They wanted her out of sight, so they could get to her.

    • Izzy says:

Ha. For my sister in law’s baby shower when she was pregnant with my oldest nephew, I had a gift bag almost half as big as me, overflowing with stuff. It was like the magician with the line of knotted handkerchiefs, just keep pulling and more comes out of the bag. It was obnoxious. It was overkill. It was FABULOUS. It was for my nephew.

If they wanted to show up with a small box or a damn forklift to shower Meghan and her baby with love, that’s their prerogative, and the dusty palace rats can piss off.

  26. AVEA says:

If this baby shower was thrown by a certain button loving Duchess in London then it would be deemed glamorous and amazing and what a keen future future queen, I’m sure.

  27. Lorelei says:

The audacity! “Stage-managing paparazzi walks” from…the door of her hotel to the car waiting right at the sidewalk. Would they prefer she teleport back and forth? jfc

The jealousy is so blatant with this one.

  28. Cherriepie84 says:

When will they give it a rest! I bet this is just manufactured distraction for Harry’s interview with GMA.

  29. Lizzie says:

    Baby shower = tacky
Ridiculing security tackling a man delivering food = elegant
Bm are beyond revolting in their continued lies.

  30. Jay says:

Isn’t this the same press tried to make it a talking point that Meghan didn’t have enough friends at her wedding? What

And huh, there must be SOMETHING about Meghan with Serena Williams, Amal Clooney, and Gayle King that makes this shower “trashy” 🤔 as opposed to the conspicuous displays of wealth and privilege we regularly see from the monarchy. Didn’t one of the York girls have a big baby shower, too?

    • Kelly says:

They don’t have baby showers in the UK.

Amal Clooney and Gayle King did not know Meghan at all before the wedding and have said so, and that might contribute to the narrative.

      • Becks1 says:

And yet there was an article about one of the Middletons having a baby shower (I can’t remember if Pippa was throwing one for Kate or vice versa.) so it’s not a completely strange thing if even – gasp – the middletons are doing it!

        contribute to what narrative?

      • MsIam says:

Exactly what narrative does it contribute to? And who cares when she met Amal and Gayle, they are all obviously friends now. The tabloids are full of sh!t and know less than nothing. According to Gayle there were about 20 people there and most were friends from college, work, etc not big names. Also Meghan interviewed a lot of people for her blog and was invited to events, participated in UN events. So that “narrative” is flat out wrong.

      • Nic919 says:

The only narrative out there was that the American biracial duchess wasn’t allowed to look happy. This was something paid for by people who could afford it and not by the UK taxpayers. And the others are living in castles and gifting themselves jewels all the time. No one freaked out over the push presents Kate “bought” herself even though she has no money and it would have had to come from a taxpayer funded source of revenue.

  31. Over it says:

F them . Megs looked stunning back then , and if it made the bitter betties even more bitter than they already are, then that’s a bonus. Harry and Meg, the best revenge is happiness

    • BlueToile says:

Meg did look amazing in these photos, just so cute and pregnant. It really hurts to know how abused and miserable she was in the UK around this time.

  32. Darla says:

    LOL

Um, women say Prince Andrew raped them when they were underage. But sure, a baby shower is trashy, okay.

  33. Züri says:

I never saw anything trashy about what appeared to be a lovely weekend among friends. But if we’re going to talk babies and showers and parties, let’s compare MM’s friends weekend/ baby shower with Kate Middleton’s mother shilling cheap plastic shit (speaking from experience of seeing it), among other attempts to monetize her daughter’s connection, for every little event that may be related to the RF. That is classless.

  34. Dee says:

I much prefer a duchess having a baby shower over one who insists on Diana cosplay for her and her kids.

  35. Rapunzel says:

“Why won’t Harry stop b-tching about the past?” Cry the BM and BRF as they…checks notes… b-tch about the past.

  36. Amelie says:

Baby showers aren’t a British thing right? So I imagine for the British press/BRF they were probably scandalized that Meghan would want to uphold an American tradition for herself. No doubt she’s attended dozens of baby showers for friends but knew having one in the UK would be seen as tacky and strange. So she went to the place she knew she could celebrate one with her friends: the US. I also think she tried to stay low-key and stay incognito but someone at the hotel or in the UK leaked her location and why she was in NYC. I mean, it would be hard to keep quiet that sort of thing and if they truly had wanted to keep it 100% private, I guess they could have done it at a private residence in the suburbs or something. But doing it in NYC was more convenient due to access.

    • Humbugged says:

She was staying and Misha’s house until they got spotted

      • Gail Hirst says:

They were spotted because her location was leaked, so the paps went on the hunt.
No One Knew she was in the states till it was leaked through the palace.

        The beauty salon owner, Danielle
        Caroline Flack
        Princess Di

They are responsible, wholly and completely, for negatively affecting these women’s lives, all with impunity. And they are allowed, nay, encouraged, to continue to feed the frothing madness of the masses.

Hate speech being rewarded in real time. And they defend their “right” vigorously. May *God* have mercy on their souls. I trust we won’t.

    • Haylie says:

Being part black and married to a royal was her true crime. Not a baby shower that was not taxpayer funded. It’s just more racism disguised by bullshit reasons. After all, a party to celebrate the pending arrival of a baby isn’t tacky like a party for tabloid journalists in a palace to keep them from telling all your secrets. Or a freaking coronation to tell the world that God ordained your ruling power, while dripped in furs and blood diamonds, and becoming the head of a church as determined by a previous ruler who wanted to divorce his wife and marry his whore.

  37. Carty says:

I’ve never understood the uproar over the shower. It’s just a normal, extremely popular tradition in United States. I go to them all the time (pre- pandemic). It was just another stick to try and beat her with. They got William out there dragging his dead mother now, those people are the worst,

    • FicklePickle says:

Just one more reminder that she’s a filthy foreigner who doesn’t know her place, really. “BRITONS DON’T DO BABY SHOWERS ARGHRAGHRARAAGH!”

  38. Greywacke says:

I find it funny that this is in the NYP because these kinds of showers are what the US gossip press expects of celebrities. Americans aren’t ashamed of such events. They drive news cycles, and are considered fun windows into the culture of the elite. We don’t consider them trashy, so the article just makes the courtiers sound like snobs and that Meghan is lucky to be rid of them.

    • Nyro says:

The British establishment can round up all the American right wing outlets they want to but that British smear campaign is not going to take off here. Baby showers are a part of our culture and we’re not outraged at wealthy people spending their money to have a luxury shower. In fact, we look at fancy showers on Instagram for ideas. This kind of British cultural outrage does not play in America. Outside of MAGA circles, you’re going to get dragged for coming at decent people, especially people of color who’d been shut out historically, who’ve made it big. Imagine being mad at self-made millionaire Serena for spending her own money for her friend’s baby shower. Imagine hating self-made millionaire Meghan for having other successful self-made women as her friends. That’s some British nonsense that’ll get you clowned for being a hater.

      • Haylie says:

MAGAs are too busy starting massive wildfires and blowing off fingers with their gender reveal party pink/blue explosive devices to get too outraged over this.

Who am I kidding. MAGAs love hypocritical outrage. It’s why they don’t like mirrors in their homes.

    • Sid says:

The editor who handles Page Six now is a Brit. I think that says it all.

  39. Plums says:

holy shit dredging up something that happened over 2 years ago. I can’t imagine how pissed off that whole institution must be that Harry has been the one putting himself out there and grabbing all the headlines post-Oprah interview. Getting a silicon valley job, giving interviews, announcing projects, going to family funerals, whatever. They’re so mad Meghan has been the one lying low and just being a normal mom and a work-from-home respectable philanthropist at the moment. They’d so much rather rant on about her rather than Harry.

  40. paranormalgirl says:

Trashy is as trashy does. They should know what trashy looks like. And Meghan having a baby shower is not trashy.

  41. L4frimaire says:

They are never getting over Meghan, never. An event from 2 years ago still gets under their skin. They wanted her alone and isolated, and it infuriated them that she was not. This woman taking a stroll around the block will get international attention, and it makes them crazy. Keep doing you, Meghan.

  42. ennie says:

trashy are those colonizer parties they like to go to, and wearing big flashy jewels stolen from countries they took riches from for CENTURIES. Trashy friends like Arab royals, cousin-Putin connection, Andrew, cousins who shill things in China… as always, double standard for the Sussexes.
    .
Someone please explain to me why is this beaten dead horse being dragged out again? It is like they will be using Archie’s christening pics because they do not have anything new to talk/complain about.

  43. equality says:

I guess, it’s okay to call American culture trashy. Do they do this to other cultures in the UK also? Only something that’s a British tradition is acceptable? Just what is expected from the courtiers and UK media, more xenophobia. And don’t the royals hang out with celebs all the time, trying to get charity support? Haven’t some of them attended fashion week? What about the BAFTAs? I can’t understand any celebrities wanting to work with them, given their snooty attitude.

    • BooyahB!tches says:

equality, here’s the thing: the RF has a choke-hold on “its people,” because frankly the majority of Britain is trashy…low class, really stupid, I could go on but you get it. So they are the loudest voices. They also become violent, abusive, and troll-y if someone disagrees with them. They swallow–hook, line, and sinker–every piece of lies and fake news the gutter tabloids like DM throw at them. Worse, they name-call and speak about H&M and “isn’t there a tunnel in Paris with their name on it?”, things like that. And this is what the DISGUSTING pigs at DM will allow in their comments: they count on it, in fact.

The Royal Family is NOTHING but a click-bait tool, and the biggest tools in that shed at Keen and Will-heWon’tee; now Will-he is gushing about his mother. No one knocking him down for “revealing too much.” Oh, no no no: it’s “brave.” Even though he calls his mother “paranoid,” while all Harry did was glorify her. Someone oughtta blow them all up.

  44. Watson says:

They are dredging up a 2 year old complaint because they have no new news about Meghan. The well is getting dry.

  45. Joanna says:

    Kaiser, exactly

  46. Tyle says:

Even after years of awful coverage I still can’t believe people are upset about…

    drumroll…

an American woman wearing sunglasses to her baby shower.

And yet SHE’s accused of being out of touch!

  47. deering24 says:

Man, nothing burns racists more than successful black women having stuff and spending their own money. That’s what “tacky” really means here.

  48. SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

Horrified? These palace bitches need to get a sense of perspective. Also, Ingrid Seward should be catapulted into a live volcano full of spiders.

  49. Isabella says:

Meghan has never allowed them to get an angry black woman shot. They would so love that.

    • BooyahB!tches says:

MM is waaaay too far ahead of the game for that; and it’s not in her nature. They’ll die trying to get a shot like that, and here’s hoping they die in misery.

  50. Justjj says:

Wow I’m so glad they were able to gtfo of there. Baby showers are expected and part of everyday American culture. They’re mad because she’s black and even if that wasn’t the primary reason they’re salty, she definitely isn’t allowed to have friends or nice things that aren’t palace-approved. They’re the ones who are racist trash.

  51. DEE says:

Totally agree with you, Kaiser. Knowing now just how low she was at the time and all the f**kshit the folks at the Firm were throwing at her–when they were supposed to be looking out for her interests–I can completely see why her friends organized that public show of force for her. Those are some good friends! (You can also tell that they are her true friends b/c they absolutely keep her confidence; I love how when they tried to ask Serena about her at tennis press conferences and she’s like, “Who? I don’t know who that is.”

  52. Jenn says:

They’re acting like a big party in a hotel is enough to bring down the monarchy — and I am ALL for that! Sounds fun!!!

  53. Christine says:

I am TRULY curious, at this point, if there is one family member, or one member of the British press, who is asking themselves today, “Oh my God, we are making all of their points for them. They were actually treated horrifically.”

  54. Well Wisher says:

I decided to access the cliff notes for William Golding’s ” Lord of the Flies” and embrace the irony and came upon this from Keith Poole’s, former deputy editor who has moved from the Sun to New York Post to boost Page six by inciting reaction and boost traffic. He started with a pap pic of Archie’s first day of school and released it on Louis’s birthday. So the public was treated to Kate’s red dress which was no match for Meghan’s red dress. The attack on Kamala Harris had the writer falling on the sword. Since then he has feasted on Meghan like the flies on the sow’s head in the aforementioned book.

  55. Bosandi says:

This doesn’t make sense. But the whole slaughter campaign against Harry and Meghan doesn’t make sense but here goes. Meghan told Oprah that they take your drivers license, passport etc. you are almost a prisoner. With this in mind, she’d have to get “permission” from someone in the BRF to even attend her baby shower in NY. If it was so horrible and trashy, why even “let” her go? Was it sabotage?

    • Juniper says:

I agree with you Bosandi, I think it could have been sabotage.

The optics of the private jet and the opulence were positively Marie Antoinette! It was such an odd tone and not one that ever would have been struck with Kate?

I wonder if Meghan was assured it would all be fine and they were setting her up for a fall?

    • equality says:

They knew she was struggling; they probably thought she would run home to the US and not return.

  56. Mina_Esq says:

If they want to talk trashy, let’s talk about that gaudy golden piano the Queen has lol

  57. Scout says:

And yet harboring a credibly accused pedophile who at best…..is very close friends with pedophiles….that’s not trashy?

  58. BooyahB!tches says:

GossipCop slammed all the stories about this event that claimed it cost $500K, all of which insinuated or boldly stated that MM had thrown the party. She didn’t: it was Serena Williams who paid for it all, and it was only $250K, which is still a lot but jeez these are massively wealthy people. All the armchair trolls want a drive-thru take-out from the local burger joint, no doubt: anything else and their envy rears it’s vicious head and snaps, spits, and growls in malicious frustration at the “haves.”
