Noel Gallagher: ‘Prince Harry is coming across like a typical f-ing woke snowflake’

Noel Gallagher

I’ve always gotten Noel and Liam Gallagher confused and I’m presently too old to even learn which one is which. I guess Noel is the “older brother” and Liam is… the wanker? Are they both wankers? Are they both drama queens? Are they both curmudgeons? The answer is yes. Noel has new music coming out so he chatted with The Sun about the state of the music industry, streaming and… the royal family. I would have thought that the Gallagher brothers would be like “screw the monarchy,” but no. It turns out that Noel is very specifically anti-Prince Harry. Because, you see, Noel is anti-woke. Dan Wootton just moaned softly. Some quotes from this piece in The Sun”:

On the royals: “Prince William. I feel that f***ing lad’s pain. He’s got a f***ing younger brother shooting his f***ing mouth off with s*** that is just so unnecessary. I’d like to think I was always the William.”

People keep asking him about the royals while he’s doing promo: “It’s funny though, doing promo for this, it’s funny how they obsess about it around the world. I did a week here of Australian promo down the phone and Zoom and all that and they were like, ‘So Noel Gallagher, f***ing ten years of High Flying Birds! It’s been amazing! And f***ing Oasis! But what we really want to know is, how much of a c*** is Prince Harry?’ And I’m just like, ‘I don’t know mate. I don’t know them’. But Prince Harry is coming across like a typical f***ing woke snowflake, f***ing a***hole. Just don’t be f***ing dissing your family because there’s no need for it.”

On the Duchess of Sussex: “This is what happens when you get involved with Americans. As simple as that.”

How the music industry has changed: “They’re just chasing the streams and the numbers and if they can get kids who are gagging to be famous and who look good and have got fairly decent voices, they’ve got in-house songwriters who can write it. I was at the Ivor Novello songwriters awards once when the song of the year came up and it was by Emeli Sande. Anyway, eight people got up to accept the award. And I don’t think any of them was Emeli Sande. And I happened to be sat with Ray Davies who presented me with my award and he went, ‘How do you make people write a song?’ I was like, ‘How do eight people even f***ing . . .  there’s not even eight opinions on a f***ing song. How can that be?’

[From The Sun]

I genuinely laughed at “This is what happens when you get involved with Americans. As simple as that.” I realize now that this is how so many British people feel – completely disgusted with Americans, even if they would love nothing more than to be successful in America, or have the American tourism money. As for Noel’s rant about Harry being a c-word for “dissing his family,” again, I lol’d. The Gallaghers have made a cottage industry out of dissing each other. They’re mad that Harry borrowed their vibe and became a star in America.

Absolutely screaming at Noel Gallagher of ALL PEOPLE saying there’s no reason to diss family. Hahahaah. It’s too good.

Also, I’m from Ireland and I’m afraid there is a tendency on this side of the world to think of Americans as being… well, “a bit American.”

    • Elvie says:

The complete lack of self-awareness! OMG. Howling.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Noel Gallagher is a pot calling the kettle black as he has made a cottage industry out of dissing and feuding with his brother. The Gallagher’s should be thankful they have so much talent to burn and their interviews are so entertaining.

    • AlpineWitch says:

I think his comment could be directed at any nationality. My husband once got “That’s what you get for getting married with an Italian”, I took it that’s the way xenophobic Brits express themselves.

In UK there’s no widespread anti-Americanism at the moment, there is just a lot of anti-foreigner and racist talk around.

      • GraceB says:

I think you’re right, Brits are mostly hung up on immigration and steaming at the ears due to people crossing the channel, without questioning why they would risk everything to do that.

I’ve also had “well that’s what you get for marrying a French man” so you’re probably right about it being general xenophobia but I can’t say Brits are any more guilty of that than the US or most EU countries.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

GraceB, you have to remember that the USA is founded on people from all over the world, although predominately British and Native American to begin with. And, now, I’m in my sixties and I’ve never heard anyone say “well that’s what you get for marrying a (name nationality) man/woman. I have no idea if others have heard it. I’m not saying that racism doesn’t exist, which it does. The racism shows itself with the immigration issues we have here. But this wide spread xenophobia? I don’t see that.

      • AlpineWitch says:

Saucy and Sassy, 50% of ‘foreigners’ I know have been subjected to xenophobia or racism in UK. It must be nice to believe some myths about the UK being tolerant. Worst country for migrants I ever lived in.

      • GraceB says:

I’d have to disagree that the UK is the worst. Having brown skin and being a muslim, the worst countries I have lived in were the US and France. I am aware of the intolerance in the UK but I haven’t directly experienced it, where as in both the US and France I’ve had incidents which left me in tears.

We’ve moved around extensively with my husbands work and while the UK isn’t where I’d want to live forever, it feels like the safest place for me based upon my own experiences right now.

    • The Gallagher brother’s 15 minutes of fame were up a looooong time ago. And —in my opinion —- if every other word out of your mouth is a swear word, you really don’t have a lot to say. Finally, does anyone really care what he has to say about Harry. I’m sure now that the little fame whore is getting some attention because he’s bashing the Sussexes, he’ll run with it as hard as he can because he is obviously desperate to be seen and heard. I think one or the other of the Sussexes will now figure in everything he says.

      • Pink says:

Lol 15 minutes of fame??? This guys been famous for decades. He’s chatting rubbish here but come on, he’s not some RHOBH star or something, he has a legitimate career.

    • deezee says:

Not just “that side of the world.” Haha
I’m north of the US and the sentiment would be the same here. But shhhh don’t tell them. They think we’re nice and polite. LOL

    • Rice says:

Please tell me his new album is called “Irony”.

    • macko says:

Self awareness is not a strong suit for this yahoo. Even in America, the Gallaghers are known for their epic family fights and bickering, than they are for music. Maybe all the drugs and liquor have addled his brains.

    • Dierski says:

“Just don’t be f***ing dissing your family because there’s no need for it.”

ROFL, thanks for the incredible advice, Noel. The man famous for two things: music and his insane forever-feud with his brother.

    • missskitttin says:

How is being woke a bad trait? Considering he comes from generations of colonialism and slavery it’s a great trait!

  2. Jan says:

Americans were smart to not buy his music.

    • whatWHAT? says:

I change the station any time any Oasis song comes on the radio.

I guess that’s what happens when your music sucks and you’re a pedantic a-hole. simple as that.

      • Justjj says:

Simple as that. Do they realize they’re a parody of themselves in America? Americans don’t like you boring, pretentious, self-obsessed has-beens either, dude. Doesn’t hurt our feelings, lol.

    • missskitttin says:

I’m praying Morrissey doesn’t give his personal opinion as well

  3. Haylie says:

I remember when Jay-Z trolled this racist asshole at Glastonbury. That is all.

  4. Laalaa says:

Say what you will but Noel has always been Noel, and while I don’t agree with him, I appreciate him just the way he is.
His 73 Qs Vogue interview is by far my favourite.

  5. oliphant500 says:

I’m not sure about the ‘British people are disgusted with Americans’ bit- where does that come from? I doubt this fool and the British media represent the whole of the UK.

    • Snuffles says:

But they want to. And they’re ruining the Brits reputation overseas.

    • Cecilia says:

Uhhm it is true. When it comes to UK vs US debate, the british have always sort of felt that Americans are somewhat beneath them. And as far as im concerned this stereotype is sort of perpetuated in the US as well. With the UK seen as classy/prestigious/ fancy etc etc. Tho i do have to admit that nowadays more and more Americans are seeing the light and see that the UK is in shambles

      • oliphant500 says:

hmmm that’s not my experience but I see your point, and yes both countries are an absolute mess at the minute, and Europe isn’t far behind. depressing.

      • BayTampaBay says:

I have three very goods friends who live in Norfolk, Kent and Leicestershire. Though they really love America and Americans, they feel that when you get down to the lowest common denominator that Americans only respect money and monetary achievement.

My friends are wonderful people and I am only expressing what they expressed to me for discussion purposes. Also, my friends felt that the root cause of Meghan’s problems with The Firm stemmed from her being an American. However, race was only a tier problem but they did admit that may English they have spoke with did have a problem with her race , her race/culture and trying to bring her race/culture into the forefront of the Firm.

      • Ann says:

Oh yes, those Americans who think the UK is better because it’s classier or something. I have a friend, highly educated and very very smart, kind of a cynic, who was in London when Prince George was born and said he felt a “thrill go through him” as the bells rang or something. I couldn’t believe it. He was also obsessed with some box they bring out in court, because the box is really old, I guess.

    • Sofia says:

I’m in the UK and I’ve seen it sometimes, even in the gen z generation. While they won’t say “America sucks” there’s a bit of turning up their nose when Americans are mentioned.

It doesn’t happen always but it does happen.

      • Oliphant says:

Is that because of trump? I spent some years as a teenager in the U.K. and it was all about America, American tv shows, holidays at Disneyland etc so i’m a little surprised, though that was the 90’s lol

I just remembered Florida was seen then as THE holiday destination, how things change I must be way out of touch now!

      • ugh says:

@Oliphant it’s way before Trump. I’m dual American/ European, and since I was little (am 30 now), Europe has looked down on Americans. It was the worst during George Bush, a bit better during Obama, and then worse again during Trump.

      • Jolie says:

@ ugh – many Brits have never forgiven Blair (and Bush)for dragging them into the 2nd Iraq War, particularly with (in Blair’s case) the aid of the “dodgy dossier. It is a popular opinion here that Blair was trying to big himself up on the world stage. I have a feeling that if it had been the case that his sons might have been conscripted he might have acted differently.

      • Nick G says:

All my life I’ve been shocked at how Britons spoke openly about their despising Americans. My friends and relatives there, from all walks of life. I had an epiphany watching a British crime show yesterday. The characters referenced Thelma and Louise, which one each wanted to be. And I thought, this is exactly how some racists in America think about POC. They can entertain us, we can enjoy and appropriate their work and culture, but we are waaayyy above them. I was born in Britain, but I know that that’s how they feel about Americans.

      • AlpineWitch says:

At the moment the anti-foreigner sentiment abounds in UK, not surprised horrible Noel came up with that.

Yesterday a guy who was waiting the bus with me after a brief exchange he asked where I was from and after I answered he asked me why I was staying here. If I were rude like he was I would have told him to mind his business but I replied “because I am British” and conversation was cut short.

A few years ago a conversation like that would have not gone that way but now several people feel legitimized in making foreigners feel unwelcome, when not worse…..

      • Eleonora says:

I think it’s way too simple to say: “Europeans think…” this or that way about Americans.

There are different generations and many different countries in Europe. Many people are still alive who had lived on either side of the Iron Curtain, so they grew up with the US being either a friend or enemy.

In Western Europe alone, there are big generational divides. You still have some who lived through the war who are often positive, then the Boomers, who enjoyed the counter culture which was both influenced by American universities, but opposing the Vietnam war. Then there are younger generations, who often like American music, media etc, but were turned off later by the wars and Bush years, then Trump years.
Of course, between individuals, there are big differences.

Also, within Europe, there are different attitudes towards the influence of the US in pop culture, language etc. The French are more protective of their language, while the Scandinavians and the Dutch often couldn’t care less.

The US isn’t always that welcoming to pop cultural influences from abroad either, particularly if songs, movies etc are not in English, so it’s not just a European thing to reject foreign influences.

When I grew up, the US seemed quite far as you couldn’t go there by car, but a fun country that created cartoons and many songs. I didn’t grow up with any negative image or anything.

    • Eurydice says:

I’m also dual American/European and have lived in a lot of countries (not all in Europe) – it has always been the fashion to hate Americans (no matter who is president). But it has always been the fashion to love the money Americans bring.

      • oliphant500 says:

Actually thinking about it I definitely experienced some condescension in France, but Spain was warm to me as was the UK. Obviously my experience is not universal but the differences are interesting! or maybe I was just too young and dumb and obsessed with the Beatles to realise when people were being crappy to me lol.

      • Eurydice says:

Yes, that’s why I say it’s a “fashion” – for the most part, I’ve found people to be quite kind one-on-one, but they certainly like to criticize America in a theoretical way.

      • Ann says:

I thought the Irish were quite friendly when I was there. I’m not Irish-American, maybe a little but we really don’t know but I relate to them more than I do to the Brits and I feel more at ease there. And apparently they love Springsteen, as I do, being a Jersey girl.

      • ugh says:

@Eurydice 100%. Whenever I’m in Europe, people tell me I’m ok because I’m not a “real” American, like its a big compliment. It’s quite crap. And re what someone else said – people won’t be rude to your face, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a cultural attitude. I think being dual made people more likely to speak about it with me because I “wasn’t a real” American so they felt they could be open with it around me.

    • Nina says:

As a European, I can say that me and people I know, worshipped America and American culture in the 90s. That all went downhill during Bush and Iraq fiasco. Antiamericanism became a norm then. After that no one really cared about US very much. Most of us were seeing Trump era as an expected downfall of American society. This is just my experience though

      • Becks1 says:

I was in Spain in 2003 (pretty much right as we entered the war, i remember going to a march in Seville that was anti-war) and my sentiment at the time was that people were anti-America but not anti-American. Like I didn’t feel that it was personal, people weren’t rude to me because I was an American, etc. And I get that – you can think a country is doing something awful but recognize that its not the american student studying abroad who is personally responsible.

      • Justjj says:

This had gone downhill for a lot of Americans too. For the millennials living in America that were growing up in the shadow of Iraq, that was the end of any feelings of American exceptionalism or nationalism for us too. I remember that the 4th of July never felt the same for me once I learned the truth. I was a teenager at the time, but Americans-in fact the majority of Americans who voted, voted against Trump. It seems abroad like people conflate US foreign policy with ‘America’, and because of corporate lobbying, corrupt corporate interests running the show, restrictions on voting rights in areas with marginalized populations, and gerrymandering on a state by state level… American politics and actual America could not be more different. I have hope this will start to change under Biden and we have seen some promising things, let’s remember too, that Gen Z and the Millenials are the most diverse and best educated generation yet, so I have a lot of hope. It’s annoying when people think we’re all cowboys with guns though, because while they’re a loud and outrageous minority, they do not reflect American culture-I would venture to say…

      • Larisa says:

America conflates foreign policy with the entire countries all the time. Russia and China are vilified routinely as if the entire country is responsible for their leaders.

      • Justjj says:

I disagree. At least, most people I know of who even have thoughts on Russia and China in the US-think that China is dangerously authoritarian and 1984 like, and full of human rights abuses, with insurmountable income inequality; and that Russia is run by thugs and oligarchs with vast income inequality as well, and that it’s sparsely populated/but these impressions are quite different from the way their overall cultures are viewed, the Russian or Chinese people, Russia or China as a whole…

    • SarahCS says:

There are a lot of Brits (hi Boris and friends) who look down on everyone else for a variety of manufactured reasons. I recently came across the term British exceptionalism and it started making more sense, we’re a small island nation who by hook and by crook managed to build a huge empire so firstly we had to justify ‘ruling’ that empire and treating all those people as 2nd class citizens (or outright slaves), and while the empire has crumbled there’s still that sense of pride about what was achieved.

    • Amy Too says:

I feel like we get this a lot: “the British people don’t actually think that, it’s just the media and the RF and the politicians and everyone the British media apparently interviews.” I feel like in america, if our media, politicians, or celebrities say something that the vast majority of us disagree with, we challenge it, loudly, and we petition and boycott and make a big stink on social media until the person in question is either fired, takes back what they said, or is forced to apologize. We are super into holding people accountable and forcing consequences when someone says something outrageously racist and MAGA. But I get the feeling that in the U.K., people don’t challenge the media and their institutions as much. If the media is reporting a bunch of anti-American, racist, xenophobic, misogynistic crap, that Brits don’t actually agree with or want to hear, Brits just sort of roll their eyes and say “well that’s the media, what can you do?” I’m generalizing, but that’s what I’ve gleaned from Celebitchy comments at least.

Like whenever we talk about the royal family and how it seems like they have a lot of support and people revere them and don’t want to hear anything bad spoken about them (because that’s the message coming out of the media), or we talk about how can Brits hate Meghan so much and be okay with racist treatment that led to her being so suicidal she had to flee the country, we get a lot of comments like “average Brits don’t hate Meghan/adore the RF in that sycophantic way. They actually don’t care about the RF at all to have an opinion, and if they do, it’s usually pretty neutral/positive about Meghan.” Then how can you be silent and just watch her get torn apart? And if people don’t care about the RF, and don’t love them in this crazy jingoistic way, then why not challenge them and all the propaganda type reporting surrounding the RF? Why let your media and celebs and politicians get away with the stuff they say if you actually disagree with a lot and think it’s gross? Its probably a cultural thing that I don’t fully understand as an American, but I find it so weird when people claim that the majority of Brits disagree with these hot takes and think of their media as tabloid scum, yet they don’t really call them out or attempt to force any kind change/consequences for the people being so racist and awful and unprofessional so loudly. There’s a reason why the exact same UK RRs that spit venom in the U.K. temper their talking points when they talk to US outlets. They know there will be backlash. People like Piers Morgan would be stuck on a Fox News cable program or their own ultra conservative radio talk show/podcast that’s targeted at a very niche audience of hyper-conservatives, they wouldn’t be on the Today show or Good Morning America or anything that’s meant to be watched by the majority of Americans or considered legitimate, major network television news.

      • AlpineWitch says:

In UK accountability doesn’t exist anymore but it is even more noticeable in the media, there is not a journo doing his/her/their job and properly questioning what they are told.

    • SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

Sneering at Americans has been a thing for ages. In the 19th century there was a whole genre of travel writing where people wandered around the USA and bitched about how uncivilised everything was. Certain subset of Brits sure do like to delude themselves that they’re innately superior to the colonials.

  6. Esmom says:

Wait If I’m reading this right, he didn’t say Harry was a woke C, the media said that to him?

Maybe that’s just wishful thinking because I find the Gallagher brothers oddly entertaining. Some of the things both of them have said are just so damn funny. And their music is great. I got my Oasis fan son tickets to on of Noel’s High Flying Birds shows a couple years ago and he said it was really great.

    • MCV says:

I’m not a big Oasis fun but I always read their interviews because they crack me up, never a dull comment.

    • FHMom says:

They have made some good music and are always amusing. When old school rock stars speak, I listen.

    • BayTampaBay says:

“I find the Gallagher brothers oddly entertaining. Some of the things both of them have said are just so damn funny.”

I find them oddly entertaining too especially when they are “going to town” on dissing each other.

    • Eurydice says:

Yeah, the quotation marks are confusing – Noel said the media called Harry a C and Noel himself called him a woke snowflake.

  7. MCV says:

Noel (and Liam) is a professional sh*t talker, I wouldn’t take seriously most of the things he (they) say.

  8. Scorpion says:

Isnt he the same person who is constantly insulting his brother????

    • The Hench says:

And vice versa. I get the feeling that Noel is doing a lot of personal projection here – as he says himself “I’m always William”.

I did lol at “this is what happens when you get involved with Americans” – which I think is not only hilarious but beautifully encapsulates how narrow Noel’s views are. For the record, I’ve been involved with lots of Americans in lots of different ways and they were all bloody lovely. So yeah, #notallbrits etc.

  9. Crowned Huntress says:

My only memories of Oasis is how much of an assh*le reputation the Gallagher brothers had here in the US.
It’s good to see that absolutely nothing has changed but if he was wise he’d hush up before the Squad catches his scent.

If this is who Prince William is trotting out to look cool by association, we’re in for a long summer.

    • February-Pisces says:

It’s clear Noel has struck up some deal with the Scum. They promote him and he praises Willie and trashes harry. I don’t think Noel needs much persuading to sell his soul, but aligning yourself with right wing a**holes does nothing for anyone’s credibility, especially if your suppose to be an anti-establishment rock star.

  10. S808 says:

Maybe I’m too young but I have no idea who this is 😐

    • Esmom says:

You probably would recognize an Oasis song if you heard it.

    • Maria says:

      You’re better off, lol.
I remember the constant repetition of Wonderwall on the jukebox ruining my 7 year old pool days.

      • Eurydice says:

Nooooooo, not Wonderwall. I thought I had purged the brain cells containing that information.

      • windyriver says:

Trivia – in Ted Lasso, one of the players sings Wonderwall in the karaoke episode.

    • Becks1 says:

Now I have champagne supernova in my head.

SOMEDAY YOU MAY FIND ME! CAUGHT BENEATH THE LANDSLIDE OF A CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA IN THE SKY!

      • L84Tea says:

Ugh, I associate that song with my senior year of high school. I hated that song then and hate it even more now. One of the whiniest sounding songs ever.

      • Becks1 says:

But it gets stuck in your head and then you cant get it out!! I’m still singing it to myself LOL. I remember at the time thinking the music video was SO groundbreaking and now I’m like…..not really?

    • Nyro says:

If you’re under a certain age, you likely wouldn’t know them. Especially if you’re not British. The music, save for a single song, has not stood really the test of time. Which is why this one’s always running his mouth for attention.

    • whatWHAT? says:

a whiny “rock star” who wishes and thinks he’s bigger than he is.

and when I say whiny, I mean both his demeanor and his “singing” voice.

there’s a reason you don’t know who he is.

  11. lucylee says:

I will try to make sure none of my American dollars support his behind.

  12. Sandy says:

Why is this tosser even commenting on Harry? I don’t even…

At least he’s gotten rid of his monobrow.

  13. Cecilia says:

I genuinely have no idea who this guy is.

  14. Eleonora says:

    I kinda forgot about him

  15. Lara says:

This guy literally only makes the news these days when he’s yelling at his brother (and vice versa) so like….?????????????

Are white British people contractually required to say “woke” every time they speak? Truly, what in the damn hell is going on on that island?

    • oliphant500 says:

the media is constantly going on about ‘woke’ any time ANY issue comes up. I wish we could just ban these rags, they do such damage.

    • Jolie says:

Most of the British people are heartily sick and fed up of hearing the word “woke”

  16. Snuffles says:

Doesn’t this guy get punched in the face on a daily basis? Usually by his brother?

  17. MsIam says:

    Who?

  18. WhoElse says:

Irrelevant. All I know either of the two brothers for is whining about something in the media.

  19. Becks1 says:

Ummm….”I’d like to think I was always the William.”

For some reason that line has me DYING.

As does the whole idea of a Gallagher saying that you shouldn’t insult your family in public or whatever. When I think of Oasis I think of how much I loved their music, and what a hot mess the Gallagher brothers were.

    • Maria says:

I want to be like “you’re BOTH William…it’s not a compliment” LOL

      • Nina says:

What? That’s an actual quiz? But then I’m not on Facebook. That site sucks the big one.

    • Elle says:

Let’s hope William hears about it and is so pleased his incandencense is dimmed for oh, maybe a whole 10 minutes

    • Noodle says:

@becks, it sounds like he took a “ArE yOu HaRrY or aRe YoU wIlLiAM?” quiz on Facebook.

  20. Merricat says:

Noel is coming across like a typical drunken asshole bloke. Every day.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Giving Noel the benefit of the doubt as he is British and I am not, IMAO, there are many Brits who like William because he does very little.

I think there is a sizable groups of Brits who want their Princesses and Duchess to get up early every morning, put on a designer dress with court shoes, head over to Midsomer Mellow or Badger’s Drift, hand out the prizes at the village fete, listen to a concert by the local children’s choir, attend luncheon with the local county bigwigs, have there picture taken with a randomly chosen villager then get back in their helicopter and go back to their palaces or country house,

Then all over again, shampoo, rinse, condition, rinse then repeat tomorrow at the “Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel”.

      • SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

If it gets them murdered, RESULT.

“Kate! What are you doing here?”

        ::fox screams::

  21. GrnieWnie says:

I love how anyone with an awareness of history and mental health is now “woke” (used as a pejorative). Since “woke” is itself a term from AA culture, the response ironically reveals the truth of the awareness in the first place.

  22. Nancy says:

Some Brits still salty 245 years later that our farmers & tradespeople kicked the ass of “ the greatest fighting force “ of their time. 😂😂 Typical of Salty White Folk Isle. This particular Brit sounds like a major twat.

    • Jolie says:

I’m a Brit, of advanced age, and have never met anyone who cares to much about what happened 245 years ago, I for one think the outcome was right. Also, the way history is taught in our schools I doubt too many people know too much about the War of Independence. Not sure about your “Salty White Folk Isle” comment – it is always a little dangerous to generalise. But I agree with you about Noel.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Noel & Liam are both first class professional attention whores who use all the chutzpah they can generate to sell their music.

I will admit they are both very talented musicians and this is what (for good or bad or rightly or wrongly) they have to do to sell their music in today’s market.

      • Jolie says:

yes, all a question of trying to stay in the public eye.

      • Nancy says:

“Salty White Folk Isle” coined by the illustrious Kaiser. Author of the article you are currently commenting on. You must be new here.

    • Shoshone says:

Actually, we kicked their ass twice. Don’t forget the war of 1812. The Brits thought that they would have their ‘do over’ war but we handed them another defeat. As late as the 1920’s (and after considerable US support in WWI) the British navy was strategizing that their next most likely war would be with America. Of course WWII happened less than 10 years later. Forever salty.

      • Nic919 says:

Canadian here to step in and say that Americans did not win the war of 1812. It was a tie because that’s the war where Americans decided they wanted to take over Canada and the locals along with British military kept Americans out. The White House got burned down for revenge after York (toronto) was burned. And in the end upper and lower Canada kept their territory and didn’t become the US.

It is also one of the first events that united English and French Canadians in order to establish an independent country. Also lots of indigenous warriors like Tecumseh lead many battles and sadly Canada did not live up to its promises to treat them fairly for their heroic acts. So really if anyone lost it was the indigenous peoples of North America.

      • Jolie says:

That reminder won’t be popular Nic919. So many people forget the indigenous peoples of North America when complaining about the abhorrent slave trade, which Britain banned some decades before the US

      • Becks1 says:

Britain doesn’t really have a leg to stand on when it comes to the slave trade so I wouldn’t start with that.

      • AlpineWitch says:

Jolie, we are still glamourising slave traders in UK so that remark seems like “look who’s preaching from the pulpit”.

      • Jolie says:

@ becks quite right, I never said it did, but it helps to remember that while my nation sold them, your nation bought them. Both have blood on their hands

@ alpine who is glamourising? We can’t change history, but we can do more to acknowledge it I accept. But for instance those wanting Rhodes statue remover aren’t calling for the abolition of his scholarships.

  23. LaraW” says:

Aging white male singer falling to irrelevance trying to generate interest for his aging white male music by shit talking H&M, covering for his “anti-woke” racism as being part of his usual white male schtick. Got it.

  24. Polly says:

Actually these days Liam seems like a pretty decent and normal person. Noel however is a lost cause. Last year he was bragging about not wearing a mask on public transport. He’s one of THOSE types.

    • Wilma says:

I was surprised to find myself switching sides in this feud as Liam IS coming across as a better person than Noel these days.

      • mynameispearl says:

Liam has been actually violent with his girlfriend though, and has cheated on multiple wives. Hes an actual wanker.

      • BayTampaBay says:

        “He’s an actual wanker.”

Well somebody has to keep Jeremy Clarkson company.

  25. Nyro says:

If you’re a has-been from Shutter Island, bashing Harry and Meghan is guaranteed media attention. Clout chasing clown. You know, I don’t know a single person who didn’t grow up with Oasis who knows their music. I mean, they know “Wonderwall” in theory, but that’s about it. I know kids who listen to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Smiths, etc. But I don’t know a single kid who’s discovered Oasis and is into them. But I know tons of kids who love The Beatles so…

    • BayTampaBay says:

I am a Tears for Fears and Duran Duran person myself.

    • whatWHAT? says:

gawd, they wanted to be “the next Beatles” SO BADLY. I seem to recall one of those wanker brothers actually saying something to the effect of them “filling the void left by the break up of the Beatles” or something like that and comparing himself to John Lennon.

neither of those two is fit to polish John’s headstone.

      • Nyro says:

I don’t know what they’re popularity is like in the UK these days but their music did not hold up over here. They’re not legends. A 14 year old American would know who Coldplay is before they know who Oasis, easily. A lot of people over here didn’t even get the Oasis joke in Yesterday.

      • Mcmmom says:

I thought the scene in “Yesterday” when he googled Oasis and found references to, well, oases was very clever.

    • February-Pisces says:

Bashing harry and Meghan seems to be an easy ticket to getting great press from the right wing media. They will probably give Noel rave reviews for his sh*t new album. Remember most celebs are actually afraid of the media.

Nyro, lol I bet it kills Noel that Chris Martin is more relevant than he is in America, lol. Just the thought of it makes me smile. While oasis peak was pretty high during the mid to late 90s, They struggled to recreate the same success through to the noughties onwards, instead living off the glory from their early success. Coldplay have been pretty consistent for the last 20 years.

  26. SusanRagain says:

Noel, you are a cranky old man.
    Geez.
As if Harry gives one hot damn what some musician thinks of how he lives his life, Ha!

  27. Sofia says:

Hasn’t Noel made complaining about your family as an art form (for him I mean)?

  28. Amy Bee says:

    Yeah whatever, Liam.

  29. MissF says:

Nobody in the UK can take Noel Gallagher seriously after his feud with Lewis Capaldi. Big up the Scottish lad 🙂

  30. SusanRagain says:

Btw, Liam is still better looking and funnier!
“I was always the William” lol
This made me laugh so hard. 😀
Yes, Noel you really are The William, the older brother who can’t go a single day without sh*t talking the talented kid brother. lol

Noel and Liam had some good songs, they were always over rated here in USA.

And, it must be said that Freddie Mercury had more talent in his fingernail clippings than Noel Gallagher has in his entire soul. So there! lol

    • mynameispearl says:

Liam was an amazing frontman, Noel was the actual talent though. He wrote every Oasis song, and they might not be your cup of tea, but they were hugely popular. Put one on now in any pub in Ireland and the entire place would stop what they’re doing to sing along.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Success went to the brothers heads, esp Noel. They had one great album and then put out music that sounded the same. Couldn’t stand them when they first came out and still can’t stand them. They give Mancunians a bad rep as their whole schtick is playing to that stereotype.

  31. Serena says:

    Stuck-up prick.
At least Harry is woke and put his money where his mouth is, while Noel is living in the past, obsessed and jealous of his brother (reminds me of someone) and unable to cope with how the world evolved.

  32. EM says:

Noel has always been a piece of work. And you know what? Some Americans can be obnoxious, especially when traveling abroad, but so can the Brits. I’ve seen plenty of loud, obnoxious drunk English folks when I’ve traveled to other countries.

    • whatWHAT? says:

I’ve seen plenty of loud NOT drunk Brits here in the US, expressing their opinion – LOUDLY – on American culture and social norms.

I had to tell one to “f*ck off back to England then” when he made some comment about “how they do things in America”.

dude was in line in front of me and got out of line to go grab a few more things and thought he could just jump back in when he came back to the line. and it wasn’t like he leaned and grabbed something from a rack next to the line, like he literally went to a few different parts of the store and was gone for a few minutes. I told him he needed to go to the back of the line and he got snotty and people LAUGHED when I said what I said. I’m sure I only solidified his view of “the vulgar American” but IDGAF.

  33. JillyBeann says:

Best bet this loser doesn’t deserve an article or any attention paid…. I’m only writing to say – please don’t post any more articles about this idiot who should be left in the nineties

  34. Sherry Greengrass says:

Maybe he was just trying to be funny because he’s sick of the questions!

  35. Coji says:

This irrelevant twat has no room to talk.

  36. questions says:

His opinion about the song-writing does seem to make sense when I think about it. I kind of chuckled.

  37. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Unpopular, has-been musician says what, now?

  38. Lowrider says:

The media likes to make it seem the rift started with the Oprah interview. Harry said what he said with his chest voice and didn’t cower behind sources! I can’t wait for his next Spotify podcast.

  39. Eh says:

Well if Noel Gallagher doesn’t like you, you must be doing something right. He’s a total twat.

  40. Robin says:

Noel Gallagher and his Beatles tribute band Oasis are a joke. Get back to bitching about your brother and leave the adults alone.

  41. Betsy says:

I actually really enjoyed Oasis’s music and it was very much in the background of my teen years. I guess I’ll just forget that this guy talks and go back to the occasional listen of Oasis songs.

  42. thaisajs says:

    Noel who?

When’s the last time anyone on either side of the pond gave a crap about Oasis? I thought they broke up, like 20 years ago.

  43. WinnieXi says:

On the Duchess of Sussex: “This is what happens when you get involved with Americans. As simple as that.”

    Lol.
Things won’t end well for Eugénie then! Even worse if you get involved with a Canadian, that Royal couple is already separated!
Oh and Charles and Anne both divorced British spouses. But I guess “this” happening to a Harry is worse to mr Gallagher

    • Sara says:

Oasis had one summer of popularity in America before Americans got sick and tired of the Gallagher brothers’ arrogance and immature antics (like not showing up for their shows – their freaking job).

    • BayTampaBay says:

Jack Brooksbank is British and as English as they come family wise.

Brooksbank was born on 3 May 1986 at St Thomas’ Hospital in Lambeth, London. He was christened at Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks in Wellington Barracks. He is eldest son of George Edward Hugh Brooksbank and his wife Nicola (née Newton), great-granddaughter of Sir Arthur Holland. Brooksbank is in remainder to the Brooksbank baronetcy.

      • L4frimaire says:

I think they’re confusing Eugenie with Beatrice and her sorta Italian husband. Sometimes hard to distinguish the two York girls.

  44. February-Pisces says:

Noel is such an a**hole, liam is also an a**hole but he has a lot more charm, charisma and swag than Noel. Not to mention liam also has a sense of humour, where as Noel is a more straight up, serious type of a**hole. Noel wrote most of oasis songs so people seem to treat him with more credibility than liam, but oasis also haven’t had a memorable hit song in 20 years. As for noels solo career, I wouldn’t be able to name one of his song.

Anyway Noel is a tw*t. Always has been, he would get into a fight with himself and still lose. I’m not surprised Noel feels for Willie, both of the are extremely petty and jealous of their more charismatic younger brothers.

  45. Sara says:

Saying this as someone who was a HUGE Oasis fan back in the day and respects Noel’s talent as a songwriter: He always looks constipated. Just an incredibly unhappy dude. I would hate to go through life with my “brand” being hating my own brother.
I thought Liam’s social media rant at Noel when he didn’t show up to play the Manchester benefit concert was amazing though.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Was that the concert where Noel sat in the second row of the audience and heckled Liam using his two middle fingers? This story was told on the NPR quiz show “Wait! Wait! Don’t Tell Me” by the host Peter Sagal two Saturday’s ago.

  46. khaveman says:

He’s just stirring up “notice me” controversy.

  47. Lowrider says:

Funny dig at Americans. Oasis could never really break the American market.

  48. Shawna says:

I have so much to say about this… Noel’s the curmudgeon, Liam’s the wanker.

Noel’s “Talk Tonight” is based on an American woman. And the lyrics say, “I wanna talk tonight / Until the morning light / About how you saved my life.” American women aren’t always messes 🙂

Younger Noel would *die* of embarrassment if he knew that older Noel would be happy to compare himself with royals.

  49. Jaded says:

Noel is the quintessential yob (Brit slang term for an uncouth or thuggish working-class person) and his brother is a slightly less obnoxious version…but definitely a tosser. Why he’s getting air time for this nonsense is beyond me.

  50. AA says:

I spent a fair amount of time in the UK in the late 90s/early 2000s for both work and personal reasons. My huge, generalized consensus: they aren’t the nicest people, but I guess that’s an “American” thing (being “nice”). They also generally think Americans are total morons until they start speaking to you and realize you aren’t. They also think they are better than everyone else for reasons unknown. And they don’t like to be reminded they’d be singing “Deutschland Forever” if it weren’t for us (I only resorted to this once when I couldn’t take the bashing anymore).

I had more than one of them say to me, “You know, America (which Americans don’t call “America” anymore, anyway – most Americans I know call it the “US”) isn’t the greatest country in the world.” Like, totally out of nowhere. I would usually politely reply, “No, it’s got its problems like everywhere else.” They would sniff and change the subject. I don’t feel the need to ever go back. I can only imagine what Meghan went through. “Salty White Folk Isle” indeed. Ireland on the other hand – LOVE.

    • Jolie says:

“” And they don’t like to be reminded they’d be singing “Deutschland Forever” if it weren’t for us (I only resorted to this once when I couldn’t take the bashing anymore).””

We very much appreciated and still do your help in WWII but could I respectfully point out a chronological fact – The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour on 7 December, 1941, 4 days later Germany declared war on the US. Then the US joined the allies.

      Again, thanks for your help.

      • AA says:

I appreciate the clarification of facts…but it doesn’t change the reality of the statement. I love individual UK citizens and I’m sure I would love you. 🙂

  51. Over it says:

As Maria once said and I am really being serious about it, I don’t know him. Like really I have no idea who the Gallagher’s are because clearly I only know a list music artist.

  52. L4frimaire says:

I can’t distinguish between the Oasis brothers and don’t know any of their songs except for two from the 90s, but anti-woke, anti-Sussex bandwagoneers seem to be what middle aged burnout Brits seem to be doing these days. Jay Z did an epic diss of them at Glastonbury in 2008 so there’s that. Everyone is a Sussex clout chaser these days.

  53. EnormousCoat says:

Wasn’t this guy’s whole career based on throwing epic tantrums and being a straight up nasty b!tch?
Why is anyone listening to this dullard? It’s bad enough that I was forced to listen to his boring ass music when it was being played everywhere. No more air time for this knob.

  54. LRob says:

I dismiss anyone who uses jargon like woke and snowflake to attack someone who is transparent and compassionate. What does it say about you if those qualities offend you. Next?

  55. MangoAngelesque says:

That is definitely the face of a man who would consider being “the William” a good thing.

  56. Maureen says:

Well I hope he’s the bigger POS brother in his own family drama. Hard to imagine one worse than him.

  57. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

Yes. Let’s ask someone who’s relapsed on their alcohol problem about Prince Harry. That’s an opinion that matters.

(It’s early in America but there is stories going around in Europe today where Noel admits he has relapsed on alcohol due to lockdown)

  58. Mina_Esq says:

Oh nooos, how will Harry survive this attack? lol It’s funny to me when these suuuuper sensitive guys accuse others of being snowflakes. This guy loses his sh*t over the slightest perceived slight, is my understanding.

  59. Det20! says:

You may like the music of Oasis or you may not. Personally I thought they had some good songs if you like that sort of stuff, but the praise for their skills reached ridiculous heights that were not at all justified. Many musicians more talented than them (someone mentioned Freddie Mercury and I could name a dozen more straight away). However, they were at the right place at the right time and fame happened for them, and at one point they were about as big as you can get as a band in certain countries. But make no mistake, both brothers were always assholes. I was knee deep in the British music industry from the late 80s through to the 90s and early 2000s and it’s not like they were any different then.
If you go on Youtube and search for “Westlife – Interview (The Graham Norton Show)” they recall a story about how professional courtesy looked like for Oasis, starts at minute 2:15 (in the interview only upload, 2019). While Nicky can be a bit of a storyteller for the sake of a fun story I can believe that this particular tidbit absolutely happened. John C. Reilly’s shade regarding the touring bit is priceless though: “How is the Oasis tour coming along?” Which is what it is all about; the Gallaghers have no other meaning these days than delivering continued swearing and controversial quotes for the media, because that is all the “relevance” they can claim in 2021.

  60. booboocita says:

What I always remember about Oasis is Noel claiming in an interview sometime in the 1990s that Oasis was bigger than God, and Mel G (Scary Spice) retorting, “Then what are we [the Spice Girls] bigger than? Buddha? Because we sure are bigger than Oasis.” Bwah!

  61. House of No says:

Hates Americans and proceeds to use American slang. Hates his brother and proceeds to lecture anyone on how to treat family.

Maybe if he put in more work like he does running his mouth, he wouldn’t be forgettable.

    Yeah. He’s like William.

  62. Normades says:

Noel’s an asshole and Liam is too. This just makes Noel the bigger asshole of the moment. If Liam comes out team H&M I’d be team Liam (because like I said they’re both assholes).

  63. J ferber says:

I always hated those bickering brothers. And they make harsh, mean comments about many people. Check your ego, bloke. I remember his own brother suggested Noel wasn’t the father of his daughter? Good times.

  64. Amando says:

I immediately stop listening to whomever is talking when they use phrases like “libtard” or “snowflake.”

  65. Joanna says:

    Wtf ever dude

  66. Joanna says:

    Wtf ever dude

  67. Nic says:

Noel is taking the piss out of himself here. Whether people do or do not know he is joking, it is equally entertaining to him.

  68. FF says:

The Gallaghers have espoused racist, sexist, homophobic attitudes from the minute they and their wannabe band turned up. They’re hack musician, cultual magpies who feel entitled to comment on people with more talent who’ve done the work better – and for longer.

They also like to condescend from their lofty bottom. His opinion means less than flaming garbage – which is how relevant he is.

  69. Feebee says:

George Michael on Noel Gallagher “This is not an intelligent man”. Still true.

  70. Anna says:

He looks like an asshole. In my younger years, I used to have a really broken picker due to past trauma and would always make a beeline for these fuckers, they all have a certain look, that barely disguised rage, entitled, narcissistic, self-absorbed asshole. Not sure why I naively thought I could fix them or perhaps it was their hatefulness reflected what I thought I deserved. Now, thankfully, I know better, and it’s amazing to be able to spot the asshole from a mile away. It’s in the face, the expression, everything. Almost makes me want to hurl, guys like this. Be gone, turd! You will never be one iota the man that Harry is.
