For the love of God, Duchess Meghan is not attending the Diana-statue unveiling

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attend the annual Commonwealth Day Service

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed Lilibet Diana, many of us were surprised by how soon she came. When Meghan said she was due “in the summer,” I guess we all just agreed that it would be more like mid-June or late June? But no, Lili was born on June 4th. Since Lili Montecito came nearly a full month before Prince Harry is due back in the UK for the fakakta statue-unveiling on July 1st, there were rumors that Meghan would make the journey with Harry? It sounds like a royal-commentator’s fever dream, the idea of a weeks-postpartum Meghan bringing Archie and Lili to Kensington Palace to watch Harry and William unveil a statue of Diana. It’s also very stupid and it’s not going to happen.

A source close to the Sussexes has dismissed reports Meghan Markle was planning to travel to London for the unveiling of the new Princess Diana statue. Radar Online published a report claiming the Duchess of Sussex, 39, wanted to fly to the UK to support her husband at the family event on July 1. It quoted a source who said Meghan wanted to be by Harry’s side as he faced his family for the first time since the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral and subsequent interviews in which he accused the Queen of passing on ‘genetic pain’.

The claim has since been dismissed, with a source close to Harry and Meghan telling the Daily Mirror: ‘Meghan is not going to travel. She has just had a baby and Harry will travel alone.’

ITV Royal Producer Lizzie Robinson also tweeted: ‘Meghan will not fly to the UK to join Harry for the unveiling of a statue of his late mother Princess Diana on July 1st, a source confirmed after a US website claimed she would be attending.’

Prince Harry and Prince William will reunite to unveil the statue in their mother’s honour on July 1, what would have been her 60th birthday. The statue is set to be placed and unveiled in the princess’ favourite spot on Kensington Palace’s grounds, in the Sunken Gardens.

[From The Daily Mail]

This is what it’s come to, British outlets looking to Radar Online (a site people haven’t used as a source of legitimate gossip in a decade) to start sh-t, just so they can get Harry & Meghan’s people to officially deny it. Of course Meghan isn’t coming. She was never coming to the unveiling. But don’t worry, in Meghan’s absence, the Cambridges are going to be so over-the-top, it will make your head spin. We will be getting WEEKS of stories about how Kate is the linchpin of the monarchy because she stared longingly at Harry and tried to flirt with him.

The baby will be less than a month old, we’re still in a global pandemic, and that family treats Meghan like crap. I’m sure it was a real hard decision to make!

    • Merricat says:

IKR? Like saying “Come here so I can slap you. Why not?”

      • Gail says:

@ Merricat ~ This gave me a uncomfortable moment. Like an echo in my brain. I had to pause for a second and then realized, that’s what my mum used to say. If you didn’t step up to get the slap my mum (an immigrant to Canada from England) would escalate by getting up and getting more physical. My mum was a soaking wet drunk and I went to the other side of the country (from Montreal to Vancouver) to learn how to be myself safely, instead of just a reflection of who she thought I was and remain unsafe.
Maybe this IS a generational thing. I love you….slap across your face. And the carnival of ‘experts’ are following the same playbook. They are treating Meghan as ‘less than’ as did my mum treat her children.

      • Nina says:

@ Gail. Sorry to hear the horror you had to endure. Hope you finally reached your safe haven.

      • observer says:

Gail, that’s terrible. i hope you have managed to or continue to heal from your abuse and its effects on your.

    • Eurydice says:

Not just traveling with a baby, but also with a toddler – seriously?

    • Amelia says:

Thank God someone is remembering that we are still in a pandemic. Cases are starting to rise again here in the U.K. despite people being by constantly vaccinated. People still need to be careful. But ofc, the Cambridge’s have to be seen everywhere because “they’re so important” 🙄

      • Nina says:

Didn’t the UK announce that they have seen an increase in cases with the Indian variant?

    • lise says:

and don’t most infant childcare ppl recommend not taking a 1 mo old baby on an airplane? so the idea would be, what, exactly… either megan leaves her newborn infant with a caretaker to go to this dumbass statute thing or megan brings her newborn infant on a plane in contravention of expert advice to go to this dumbass statute thing? this is such a dumb discussion from the isle of salty white folks

      • Lorelei says:

@Lise ITA. It’s ridiculous. Even if there was no pandemic, this baby will be less than one month old, reason enough not to go — and that’s not even getting into the way Meghan and the children would be treated if they were there.
Of course she won’t go and she’s right not to.

  2. Nomegusta says:

Didn’t Lady Diana feel trapped at Kensington?

…so who thought it would be a great idea to put a statue of her there? The symbolism is not lost on me. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong

Is it for tourist dollars? Will people be able to pay and visit?

    • Cecilia says:

The sunken garden at KP (which to my knowledge is where the statue will be placed) was one of diana’s favorite spots. Its why meghan and harry did their engagement photocall there.

I do have a question: is this going to be a private or a public event? Is the press going to be there?

      • Ainsley7 says:

The press will be there. That’s why they’re putting so much pressure on Harry and why they’re trying to pressure Meghan. They want those photos. They’ll be worth way more than just W&K alone.

      • BnlurNforever says:

From what I understand it was supposed to be just family with the rota press, but who knows what it has evolved or devolved into now. I hope with all of me that Harry choose not to go. It’s one thing to attend his grandfather’s funeral, that was a necessity, but quite another to go unveil a statue even if it’s to honor his mother. Ultimately, Harry can go, or not, Meghan and those kids need to avoid the UK forever for their safety.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

@nomegusta, I’m not going to correct you because I don’t believe you’re wrong. Andrew Morton said Diana felt that Kensington Palace was more of a prison than a palace. She may have spent time in the gardens and was known to jog, walk, spend time and talk to the gardeners there-but, I’ve been hard pressed to find anything that SHE said that it was one of her favorite places. My research could be wrong. Most things I’ve found were from 2017 and after and ‘reportedly’ is a word used. The KP gardens are very lovely.

Barbuda, while not obviously in England, was one of Diana’s favorite places. They renamed one of the beaches-Princess Diana Beach. That would have been a cool place to have her statue. Still not a fan of statues.

Currently, there isn’t a charge to walk through the KP gardens that I’m aware of…who knows what will happen after the statue is in place.

Harry & Meghan did do their photocall engagement announcement at KP. Maybe it had something to do with Diana or simply because that’s where Harry was living at the time. November of 2017 is when the engagement announcement was made and Meghan moved into Nottingham Cottage.

Radar online is not a reputable source. They are owned by AMI that also owns US Weekly. Radar online employs former TMZ and National Enquirer people. They cut a lot of staff last year and are in a deficit. Jumping on the H & M train for clicks. The contrary story was just a story…it’s not one they would need to respond to, spokesperson is so generic.imo

Anyone who is currently questioning Meghan going to the unveiling and travelling overseas after giving birth two weeks ago, with Covid/Covid restrictions, is/are completely bonkers.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

@Lady D. TMZ was started by AOL & Telepictures via Warner Bros./WarnerMedia and is still with WarnerMedia. Radar magazine was founded by Maer Roshan-Jeffrey Epstein was an investor. The magazine flopped and went exclusively online. It’s changed hands a couple of times. American Media bought it in 2008. Looking it up again I’ve read Radar Online was acquired by Empire Media in March 2021, a company started by Dylan Howard, an ex exec at American Media/A360. With that, US Weekly and Radar Online are now no longer owned by the same media group as I thought.

  3. Merricat says:

Yeah, Harry is never going to forget the part Kate played in driving his wife to suicidal thoughts.

    • Nic919 says:

One of the photos included shows Harry looking concerned after Kate pulled her bitch move at the commonwealth service. Harry is never going to forget that.

    • Jaded says:

That’s why I think if anyone has hinted that Kate shouldn’t attend, it’s Harry. Meghan spoke kindly of Kate in the Oprah interview, said she was a “good person”. However I think it was overly generous to say that unless Meghan knows Kate’s marriage is unraveling because William is a total pr*ck. She did say Kate was “upset about something” the day of the alleged crying situation a week before the wedding, and sent her flowers and a card afterwards.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

Oprah also also asked about the Wimbledon pictures and appearing friendly. Meghan did respond that nothing is what it looks like over the past four years. That’s not on Meghan though. She may have said Kate is a ‘good person’. I think Meghan was being kind. At the end of the day, Kate still did nothing to refute any negative stories, like the crying story about Meghan. Kate is probably that person we’ve all encountered in our lives that will go on and on and on about their personal stories, special relationship and shared experiences with the person you’re in a relationship with. Instead of asking questions or showing an interest in you, they want you to know how important THEY ARE in your SO’s life. When logically, if they’re that important, nothing needs to be said..it’s obvious. The royal experst, rotas, Katie Nicholl, Carole.. stories about Kate’s “special” relationship with Harry are actually exemplifying that there is not a good relationship. Harry loves Meghan over all of them. His relationship with his wife is most important to him. No BM, tabloid story is going to change that.

  4. GrnieWnie says:

I could barely walk six weeks after giving birth. I couldn’t stand still in one place without pain. Couldn’t imagine sitting on an airplane for hours.

I love how media expectations for these post-birth appearances in heels and nude hose are just getting shredded by reality. So glad Meghan had the nerve to stand up to these idiots. She’s in her late 30s and she is not putting up with this nonsense. I always thought these expectations were nothing less than misogyny, but of course that doesn’t appear to have ever dawned on Kate.

    • FC says:

Same. I was still hemorrhaging four weeks out. Doctors won’t even officially “release” you until your 6-week postpartum appointment.

    • Dee says:

I imagine Kate and Carole had vision boards for that moment of presenting the heir on the hospital steps. No way they were going to miss that.

      • Nivz says:

I thought about this too. They are so limited by their need to climb and recreate every Diana moment, they didn’t stop to think about how absurd it is to ask a woman to do a photo op right after delivery. Yeesh.

  5. Mchica says:

RR is just desperate at this point. I’m skeptical about Sussexxes “sources” too. Saw an article in Fail about Lili and Archie but they had to use Charlotte and Louis pics

    • Amy Bee says:

@Mchica: The sources they talk about in this case, is actually the Sussexes’ spokesperson but the British press like to pretend that they have an exclusive person giving them information. And papers like the Sun, Mirror, Daily mail and the Express have to rely on tweets from the colleagues for information from the Sussexes because they don’t talk to these tabloids.

    • Myra says:

My brows arched at the bit on sources close to the couple told the Daily Mirror…hmm. That said, I do believe she won’t attend.

  6. Mchica says:

They also needed a distraction from the Epstein and Scotland Yard story too

    • My3cents says:

Yup. I’m thinking the whole baby name smearing campain was a diversion from that as well.

  7. Seraphina says:

Good Lord the baby was JUST born. Why on earth would she travel with two children after having a baby while we are all in a global pandemic with new variants being identified.
    It’s a no brainer.

  8. Snuffles says:

I really want Harry to be petty an dip on this whole event. I just don’t think the weeks of using every second of this visit as click bait and cover for whatever stupid ass thing the other members of the royal family or the British government has done is not worth it. Not to mention that the UK lockdown has been extended by a month and they’re getting slammed with new variants.

    Ugh! Don’t go, Harry!

    • Merricat says:

I’m with you, Snuffles. I think he’ll go anyway, but I wish he wouldn’t.

    • Cecilia says:

I really don’t want him to go. For all the reasons you just mentioned and the endless “kate the peacemaker” stories we will be provided with.

But that is his mama, so obviously he’ll go if he can.

    • Eurydice says:

Well, I know – but they just named the baby after Diana. And he has to support the legacy of his mother, especially after William threw her under the bus.

      • Snuffles says:

I don’t like it when people say he HAS to do something. He doesn’t HAVE do ANYTHING. IF he goes, it’s his choice because he WANTS to.

      • MF1 says:

He supports the legacy of his mother every day by helping to make the world a better a place. He doesn’t need a stupid statue unveiling for that.

      • Eurydice says:

Yikes! No need to pile on because of a little verb. We’re all making declarative statements here, but we don’t actually know what Harry feels about the unveiling – maybe he “needs” to view the stupid statue.

      • Lorelei says:

Not piling on, but the reason I dislike comments like this is because they imply that Harry needs to somehow prove something to the public by attending this thing, and that it means anything whatsoever if he doesn’t go.

He adores his mother and the entire world knows it; he has a newborn at home and if he doesn’t attend this unveiling, it doesn’t mean he loves or misses Diana any less (this isn’t aimed at you, Eurydice, it’s that we know it’s how the BM will frame it).

IMO he should stay home with Meghan, Archie, and the baby, and he can celebrate Diana’s birthday in his own way. Unfortunately, there’s so much public pressure being put on him to attend, so who knows. It’s so frustrating—that pressure only exists because of how much ££ horrible people will make if Harry is there. They want those photos so, so badly.

      • Eurydice says:

@Lorelei – I didn’t say he had to prove anything and I didn’t mean it that way, either. It’s just that for all the opining we do here, nobody’s considering the possibility that Harry might actually want to attend this event. By “want” I don’t mean “eagerly looking forward to having a wonderful time,” but that he’s still a man of duty, even though he’s stepped away from the RF – duty to family, duty to country and duty to those in need. He attended his grandfather’s funeral to show love and respect – it’s not such a stretch to imagine that he’d want to show the same for his mother.

    • Anwahets says:

I wish he wouldn’t go either. It makes no sense going there to quarantine for a week and then come back to quarantine back home. At best that would be almost 3 weeks away from his wife and children to go to a place to be used as tabloid fodder and to prop up his brother and sister-in-law.
I can just imagine the media headlines putting Meghan down because Harry would choose to be away from her and their children for over two weeks.
I understand honoring his mother but I think he can go see it at a later time and honor her in a more meaningful way

    • MF1 says:

Totally agree. Don’t give them the satisfaction of those photos, Harry!

    • Myra says:

On a good note, it’s only a one-day event and after that he won’t have to see them for quite a long while.

    • LMR says:

I agree – don’t go Harry – don’t reward the RR and tabloids.

You have honored your mother a thousand different ways already and I know you’re just getting started.

However, if you really must attend, wear a great big mask that covers your face. Deny them the money shots.

  9. Cecilia says:

So this is what they want to focus on? Despite channel 4 releasing a doc (?) on Epstein , maxwell, the metropolitan police and prince andrew the night before?

    • Merricat says:

They especially want to focus on this now.

    • Eurydice says:

And, because of that report, the police are opening an investigation – so interesting.

    • Jaded says:

It’s called “deflection”, the oldest trick in the gutter press playbook. Mark my words there’s a chain of courtiers, grey men and advisors leading directly back to the Queen keeping Andrew off the front pages and the Met from launching an investigation. But now that a British woman has come forward about her experiences with Maxwell and Epstein, others are bound to muster up the courage to do the same. All of this in the lead-up to Maxwell’s trial in November is causing the courtiers, grey men and advisors to crap their pants in anticipation of what she may drop about Andrew’s involvement.

  10. FC says:

The real headline should be: “Breastfeeding Mom Plans to Breastfeed Her Month-Old Baby”

  11. JT says:

How many times can Harry reunite with William? It seems silly to constantly say they are reuniting when they’ve seen each other a few times since Harry stepped down. It’s just making Harry seem that much more important when they hype up his returns to the UK like this. He might as well be our Lord and savior or something.

    • Cecilia says:

I really want kate nowhere near there. But since the press is so desperate to profile her as peacemaker she probably going to be there.

  12. LaraW” says:

I think I missed something. When was it confirmed that Harry would be attending? Also lol, because if he leaves immediately after the unveiling, +3 days for covid rules on international flights, he’ll be back in Montecito to celebrate July 4 with his family.

  13. Sofia says:

I do not blame her one bit. Lili will be a month old and I don’t see Meghan wanting to travel, even if Lili (and even Archie) is left with a nanny/friend/Doria.

  14. MsIam says:

Is it even official that Harry is going? From what I heard he would have to leave this weekend so he will have time to quarantine. Baby Lili is barely two weeks old. But maybe Harry feels he has to go and get this over with. Then the next drum the tabloids will bang is “Christmas with the Queen!” unless that’s cancelled this year too.

    • BnlurNforever says:

Here’s hoping he sits this trip out because unlike a funeral this is not worth the can of worm that will be opened. He is a living breathing monument to his mother, especially through the work he has chosen, this trip is not necessary imo.

      • JT says:

I’m wondering the same. Has Harry’s team actually released a statement confirming his attendance? I haven’t seen anything otherwise, unless I missed it. Earlier in the year H&M’s spokesman said it was too early to discuss travel plans and that was it.

      • Lorelei says:

That is such a perfect way of wording it- “he is a living, breathing monument to his mother.”

      • BnlurNforever says:

@JT nothing has been confirmed as yet so I am hoping that he will refrain from going. If the event proceeds they will scream and wail if he doesn’t show up and make all kinds of accusation as if they cared about Diana when she was alive. But if he goes I think the narrative will be worse than if he stays away.

      • observer says:

imagine the BP headlines if he goes. now imagine the headlines if he DOESNT go…

    • Talia says:

This. It’s not fly in, do event, fly out, it’s fly in, quarantine for at least 5 days, do event, fly out. Does he want to be away from his newborn (or the rest of his family) for that long?

  15. Amy Bee says:

The only people surprised by this are the British press. They really don’t see Meghan as human. It also goes to show how desperate they are that they’re resorting to looking for information on Radar online. The fact that they’re going to US publications and websites for anything on Meghan and Harry says alot.

Now the narrative has changed from will Meghan come to will Harry bring Archie? It’s in Becky English’s piece today. So the story is going to continue until Harry confirms that he’s going to be there.

    • The Hench says:

I wouldn’t put it past the press to run stories they know aren’t true in order for them to run stories that say the first stories aren’t true.

    • Jegede says:

      Exactly.

      Radar Online??? Seriously?🙄🙄🙄🙄

They may as well be quoting the Globe!

    • Brit says:

It shows that the Sussexes cutting them off has worked and they are completely out of the loop. Rebecca’s piece was basically begging Harry to bring Archie because they’ve been using the same photos of Archie for almost a year and a half now. It basically screamed, since Meghan and Lilli won’t be there, can you bring Archie so we can make some extra cash ? We will be seeing the Queen is heartbroken stories soon again.

    • ABritGuest says:

They don’t see her as human. Being pregnant & having a newborn is ‘just an excuse’ not to travel to the U.K. for Philip’s funeral & this statute thing according to Arthur Edwards& Phil Dampier.

Phil also said if she went to the unveiling that she would overshadow the meaning of the event but if she doesn’t then it’s a ‘snub to the royal family’ (funny I thought Diana was no longer a member of the royal family after her divorce hence the queens reluctance to do certain gestures after she died). So lose lose either way with those bitter types so best for H&M to do what they want and feel is right for
      them.

So funny how the same press who told Meghan if she didn’t like it leave are desperate for her to be back on U.K. soil

      • JT says:

I would respect the BM more if they just come right out and said that this miss covering Meghan “in the flesh” so to speak. That’s what all the whining is about anyway. Royal reporting is just not the same without her and Harry of course. They all like to claim that Meghan is hated and they can’t stand her, and yet they are mad that she isn’t coming.

  16. DellT says:

Its a non story used just for clicks. the DM story got 9k comments. they knew she was not coming. Its all for ad revenue.

    • Jegede says:

      👍👍👍👍👍

And they made this non-story a frontpage.
      Meghan stories remain their moneymaker.

They don’t care about facts or logic.
It’s all – ‘Can we drag Meghan into the lead story’???

    • February-Pisces says:

You would think that some of these Meghan trolls actually know what it’s like to have a new born baby. It’s funny how they conveniently forget, and how ridiculous it is to expect a mother who has given birth to fly long haul during a pandemic with a new born and toddler.

      • BnlurNforever says:

They would need to see her as human and they don’t see her that way. To them she is like a villain in a fictional series they can just pure out all their hate on. What the BM does is twist every single story about her in a way to satisfy the needs of their audience who need their daily fix from the series The American Duchess. They are getting desperate because they need new material and her attending an event in London would be just the thing to create future chapters in, The American Duchess series.

  17. Brit says:

These people need money so badly 😂 They need photos of Archie, Meghan and baby Lilli. The fact that they’re trying to get engagement from them by using radar online is cringey. They all know Harry will go but they need Meghan for bigger checks. Rebecca English wrote a story about this saying Harry might bring Archie…the desperation for new photos of Archie was palpable. That’s what they get. Y’all got the royals y’all wanted. The ones that don’t make them any money. They need to deal and leave the Sussexes alone.

    • taris says:

@Brit ITA, they chase the sussexes off that island, then they constantly screech that no-one wants to hear about them anymore! look, they’re cheapening the royal brand! they’re making the queen cry! oh they should just go away forever!

the sussexes no-engagement policy is clearly working. the desperation from the tabloids is real. these scum should get no more $ exploiting their family.

they should spend more time covering the boring as hell royals they have left, okay.

    • Robert says:

Everyone keeps saying Harry needs to go to honor his mother. Why can’t he put out a video of his mother on the Archwell website. Showing all the great things she did in her life. And then add in how Harry & Meaghan are continuing in that line of living. That would honor Diana better than a stupid statue in a place she didn’t like. Plus it would show how small William & Kate are.

  18. aquarius64 says:

How can we be sure Harry is going? The UK is under a new lockdown because of the new strain of COVID and it’s for four weeks. Diana’s birthday is in that period. They need to postpone it or Harry and TOB do separate video tributes. I would like a video of Harry, Meghan, Archie an a world debut of Lili on the Diana tribute.

  19. TheOriginalMia says:

They don’t even know if Harry is coming. But we know for sure Meghan isn’t and was never planning on attending. Just ridiculous to even suggest she do so. Especially with all those salty, pressed people who still twist their mouths to blame Meghan for their abuse of her. They can kick rocks until they beg for her forgiveness.

  20. Over it says:

I think the jury is still out on if Harry is going or not

  21. Catherine says:

First. The Sussexes don’t comment to the Mail so was this an official denial. If it was what doesn’t it say a Sussex spokesperson instead of a Sussex source. Not that I think there is a chance that she is coming. Second. There hasn’t been official confirmation that Harry is attending. Just story after story that he wants to/plans to attend. I think that’s why this story came out. They’re terrified Harry might not come and they wanted to try to goad the Sussexes into officially confirming his travel plans. The UK just extended their lockdown so travel restrictions/requirements are still in place. Obviously, the children are unvaccinated and because she was pregnant Meghan may not be vaccinated either which means not only would he have to isolate after he flew here but he would have to isolate once he got back as a precaution. That’s a lot of time when you have a post partum wife, a toddler and a newborn. As for the timing of the birth for a lot of Americans, summertime is Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend as opposed to the official dates.

  22. Catherine says:

Lastly, the idea that Harry is going to bring Archie to the UK without Meghan is a perfect example of how eager they are to erase Meghan. And it demonstrates that they don’t even view Archie as a child who would be a significant risk traveling during a pandemic. They just view him as a commodity to be exploited.

    • Snuffles says:

“ They’re terrified Harry might not come and they wanted to try to goad the Sussexes into officially confirming his travel plans.”

I agree, this is all about them trying to force the Sussex’s to confirm their plans.

  23. Merricat says:

Lol, the absurd idea that the Sussexes would subject their toddler to Bitter Isle. No one in his or her right mind would bring their child to a place that hates his mother. No, thank you, no longer obligated.

  24. lanne says:

If the UK is under a new lockdown then the whole event ought to be postponed. Under no circumstances should a public event like that be held during a lockdown. If it is held anyway, then Harry and his wife can attend via Zoom. Without the children.

Arthur Edwards, royal photographer, will say that Meghan is using just having giving birth as an excuse not to come, the same way he claimed she used being pregnant as an excuse not to go to the funeral. It’s really as if these people don’t see Meghan as human.
Also in news is how the Queen has personally invited Harry to have lunch with her while he’s here. And that Harry is planning to fly in and out the same day.

    • MsIam says:

I’ve heard people that have visited the UK say they had to quarantine for 10 days. I don’t know if that’s based on where they fly in from or what. And this was recently. So the days of flying in and out on the same day internationally are over for now. I don’t even know if we are allowed into Canada from the US yet. Plus for goodness sakes its an 11 hour flight each way! No way would he do that for this statue unveiling.

      • Lady D says:

The premiers of each province are meeting today with Trudeau to discuss re-opening the intl. border between us. We now have 80% of our population vaccinated, and 15% have both shots. I think there’s a good chance the border will open really soon. It also depends on how hard the Indian variant hits us and the US.

  26. Harper says:

The Diana Statue Unveiling is clearly something that Harry and Will can reschedule. The fact that 50% of Diana’s children have a conflict with the date, but it’s still going forward, is ridiculous. I think Harry has every right to be there as this is his project as much as Will’s, but this hanging on to Diana’s birthday is plain stubborn right now. At the same time, Harry’s needed at home, and part of me thinks Harry should bow out now and tell them to just put up the statue and get it over with. There is no reconciliation on the horizon between TOB and Prince Harry, and maybe once the statue is unveiled and the event is off Will’s calendar, he can start the long-overdue work of backing out of his miserable royal life.

    • Snuffles says:

With the extended lockdown, they should seriously postpone it. It can wait a few more months for the pandemic situation to stabilize.

  27. Legalese says:

Even without the pandemic there’s no doubt she wouldn’t be coming. She had a baby mere weeks ago, and a 12 hour flight across the Atlantic, even private, is not super comfortable. Nor is it for a toddler or a newborn. And there’s no way she would just leave them for two weeks – even when Harry and Meghan left Archie in CA when they returned for their “farewell tour,” Meghan was only there for five days or so. And I remember she literally hopped on a flight immediately after that disastrous Commonwealth Day service.

That being said, I’m sure the whole family will return to the UK at some point. I still get a sense that Harry, at least, wants to maintain a connection there. I have a bad feeling about Christmas…

    • molly says:

Meghan ain’t going back to that place until the queen dies.

      • Legalese says:

I would hope so but I don’t agree. The source that disputed this very story was supposedly Toya, their spokesperson. And she said something along the lines of “Meghan really wanted to go and would have if the timing weren’t so bad” (paraphrasing here). So the fact that their team is putting that out there makes me think that at the very least they want people to THINK she’ll return. They also still maintain quite a few patronage’s in the UK and I just don’t see them never working with them face-to-face again. That’s not how Meghan rolls – she likes to be involved. But like I said, I hope you’re right.

    • Jegede says:

      “I have a bad feeling about Christmas…”

      DON’T PUT IT OUT THERE!!!😩
Especially after the family’s disgusting actions against baby Lili’s name.😭😭😭😭

    • LMR says:

Isn’t Sandringham Christmas really for adults and older children?

  28. WhyYallHateMe says:

I reqlly.hope Harry doesn’t go either. That statue and the ceremony has been tainted.

    • MsIam says:

It really has been. You want someone to come back and “reconcile” but you shit all over the birth of their child and the child’s name? Then you want them back for some PR statue unveiling stunt? In a place the honoree hated? Make it make sense!

  29. Lizzie says:

I get not traveling with the kids but this would be a good event for Meghan. They wouldn’t have to worry she will upstage the queen, I would LOVE for her to upstage prince elegant and keen.

    • MsIam says:

What would Meghan get out of traveling 12 hours each way without her kids when she hasn’t even been to her six week postpartum check up?

  30. Lucky Charm says:

“When Meghan said she was due “in the summer,” I guess we all just agreed that it would be more like mid-June or late June? But no, Lili was born on June 4th.”

    - I think she could have just been born early. My youngest was born 3 weeks early, it happens. Her due date may very well have been mid-to-late June. And no, I don’t think there was ever any possibility of her attending this statue unveiling, even if she hadn’t gotten pregnant or just delivered a baby.

    • Legalese says:

I don’t think so. She requested that the trial in her court case be delayed until this fall way back in mid-October. Which likely means she got pregnant in early/mid-September, pointing to late May – early June due date. She was also pretty visibly pregnant in December in those pap shots, definitely more than 12 weeks. I think the people who thought she was due in July were the people who took her literally when she said “summertime.” While summer doesn’t technically begin until late June, most people consider when she gave birth to be summer – people take vacations, kids are on summer break.

“…she stared longingly at Harry and tried to flirt with him.”

We all do what what were good at.

  32. Susie says:

I think it’s starting. I think the Rota is starting to realize how horribly they screwed up by running the Sussex’s out. They are trying to destroy American credibility when it comes to royal news which is why they keep calling it an American site. One of the reasons I always thought this would be bad for the Brits is cause the Sussex’s in America creates a second power base not just for Meghan and Harry but also for American royal reporters. Right now Americans are developing access that the Brits are dying for. It’s the reason they hate Oprah and Gail so much and have worked so hard to discredit them. The real money comes from America entertainment especially tv spots. In the past royal news has always been done by a Brit reporter but with the lack of exclusives and the unhinged hate coming from that island how long will that last. The Brits may not think it’s racism but the Americans sure do. The Americans don’t want reporters that hate Meghan which is why Katie Nichols has never gone full Dan Wooten et al. She more subtle. Remember it’s only been a few months since the interview. Within the next few years the Americans are either gonna be looking for Americans or Brits like omid who are on the Sussex’s side. And that sucks for the Brits cuz the Sussex’s are not only loved by the Americans they have intl star power meaning they are interesting to the Brits and the world as well. Which is why Meghan’s name is in every headline regardless of which royal it’s actual about. The rota got the bland duo that nobody cares about. Unfortunately their hatred toward the Sussex’s is so unhinged that they are losing their credibility with the USA/intl audience and even the younger/non royalist Brits. That’s why with this make a story they 1) chose radar a site with no credibility and 2) kept calling it an American site instead of using the name radar. They are trying to make it clear that American royal news is garbage and lacks credibility and the only trusted sources are the Brits. Unfortunately for the Brits this is only a short term solution because ALL the royals need American news to remain kind to them because that’s where the money and tourism dollars are from. So if American sites start fighting back to defend their credibility the Brits will fold quickly. Especially since many Brits make money off the Americans. It’s why polarizing the Sussex’s against the Cambridge’s was always so dumb even before they left. Meghan being American meant they were gonna choose her add that she and Harry are charismatic, hard workers, and media savvy the rest of the royals were never going to win this battle. And then you add polarization which forces people to choose a side. I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end of the decade Americans (except for the white Karen’s) start turning away from the Brit royals solely toward the Sussexs. Especially as Kate ages and she still has nothing to show for herself

  33. L4frimaire says:

Anyone who expects a newly postpartum mother to go anywhere with this pandemic still out there and her body still healing is just an assh*le. This is what I’ve seen online from the usual gremlins: She doesn’t respect Diana, what’s her excuse this time for not coming wah, wah, wah. Then you get she just wants the spotlight,so Hollywood, she should be with her kids, she’s depriving the kids. Then we get, eat your heart out Meghan, I bet she’s raging she can’t be there to get the press attention. Meanwhile, Meghan shrugs.

  34. Noor says:

Why don’t Prince Harry just be present for the ceremony by zoom and deliver his speech via zoom. The 10 days quarantine is not worth it. I am sure Princess Diana would prefer him to be with baby and his wife Meghan rather then go to the event during a pandemic.
