Mel Gibson saluted Donald Trump at the UFC fight over the weekend

It will never be okay that people just decided, years ago, that Mel Gibson is totally fine and he should be forgiven. Mel Gibson is a total douche. He’s an anti-Semite, a racist and a domestic abuser. The only reason why he doesn’t have to “own” the domestic abuser label is because the woman he beat was his Russian girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, and no one in Hollywood thinks she “counts” as a person. People still work with Mel all the time. People are still totally fine with Mel. It sucks.

Well, Mel attended the big UFC fight in Las Vegas over the weekend. The one where Conor McGregor shattered his tibia or something. Lots of celebrities were in attendance, including Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker, Dave Chappelle, Miles Teller, Justin Bieber and… failed reality star and Nazi-at-large Donald Trump. Space was cleared for Donald Trump’s dinosaur butt to waddle through, and as he passed by Mel Gibson, Gibson saluted the motherf–ker.

Yep. It was a salute. Or to be more specific, it was a salute that turned into a mini-Sieg Heil. As one does when one comes across a Nazi at a UFC fight. And for whatever record, Mel Gibson has never served in any branch of any military. And Donald Trump was a draft-dodger FIVE times over. Because bigly bone spurs! So yeah, both of these Nazi pricks can f–k all the way off.

Yes, one Nazi saluting another Nazi, the world’s least surprising news. But you bring up an excellent point about this pos. He IS a hardcore racist, anti-semite, and thug who abuses women. Yet he’s welcomed in “liberal” Hollywood. It’s really something.

Oh and two of his biggest supporters – Jodi Foster and Robert Downey Jr.

    • Merricat says:

I disagree that Mel Gibson is “welcomed” in Hollywood. He still has some contacts, but he’s not popular.

      • Darla says:

Maybe, but he’s definitely booking work. He’s got 5 upcoming films for release.

      • Merricat says:

        Yes, but not with liberals.

      • Jess says:

Merricat, I disagree. Will Ferrel and Adam McKay put him in one of those stupid fathers movies (along w other racist hate crime dbag Mark wahlberg). They’re freakin liberal yet chose to hire this bigoted abuser. That’s gross and inexcusable.

      • Eleonora says:

He used to be THE A-list star.

Now people avoid his movies, if they even know he has a movie.

I guess he realized he can only regain popularity with maga types, so he tries to get their approval.

      • Merricat says:

So one film out of five, made in 2017.

    • And on top of all that, he is part of an extreme form of radical, very rigid Catholism. He even had his own church built in L. A. He’s such a disappointment as a human being.

      • holly says:

as an Aussie who remembers his early promise as an actor I’m shocked and saddened about what a piece of $hit he became

    • fishface says:

Domestic violence perpetrator, anti-Semite, hypocritical Christian….yup -wading deep into the MAGA cesspool.

  2. BusyLizzy says:

Well gross POSs gotta stick together.

    • clomo says:

A racist alcoholic, lovely. I won’t watch his movies, mainly because they have been sucking for years. I love Jodi but do not understand her affection for him, why does she not see it tarnishes her legacy.

  3. Leslie says:

I’ve only read the headline but OF COURSE he did. Now I’ll read the story.

  4. EnormousCoat says:

Vile people are always proud of how vile they are and they experience no shame whatsoever. People proffer excuses about mental illness (I remember Gibson getting that cover for a while), but mental illness doesn’t make you a violent racist. Being an entitled piece of trash who is threatened by others possibly enjoying the same rights as you and attempting to deny them their rights to benefit yourself, is what makes you a violent racist. Go away you gross, stupid, vile little man.

    • Joanna says:

Omg you nailed it!!!! All of this 👆🏻

    • Traveler says:

      Yes.
What level of evil do you have to be to not only stand for but go out of your way to ensure that “certain” others won’t enjoy basic human rights and dignity. I can’t come up with an awful enough adjective.

    • AmyB says:

Amen to ALL of THIS ^^^^

As someone who has suffered from “mental illness” (anorexia and serious depression), the notion that having mental illness is some type of excuse for racist, abusive and fucking vile behavior is the biggest insult to me!! No, having emotional and mental health issues is not your “get of jail free card” to behave in the despicable ways Mel Gibson has! Hollywood may have forgiven him, but I will never watch a movie with him in it again. I used to love Kevin Spacey too. But again, I am not supporting someone who rapes/or sexually abuses younger victims!

      GTFOH!!

      • TT says:

Than, you!! As a mental health doctor, I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT when people offer mental illness as a possible reason for an asshole of a person and their behaviours!!!! Mental illness does not make you a violent racist / sexist / etc!!

      • Kkat says:

I’m very bipolar and other affect disorders, so are both my boys 16 and 25.
Funnily enough, none of us are racist, homophobic, pieces of shit.
        Because that’s not a thing.
Mental illness doesn’t make you those things.
If you already are it can make it worse.
But it doesn’t make a non racist a racist.

I’m frankly sick to death of that excuse.
It doesn’t excuse people like Kanye either, mental illness just makes what he already was worse, an asshole.

      • AmyB says:

@Kkat YES, Kayne is another one!!! Yes Bipolar disorder is not an excuse to be an asshole either! No you are just an asshole – SORRY!!

If you are racist, homophobic, emotionally or physically abusive, manipulative, a gaslighter, a God damn asshole, and on and on – stop blaming these behaviors on mental illness!!!!

      • MC2 says:

THIS! I’ll never understand why people don’t separate things & know two things both can be true, but not connectd. Someone can be mentally ill and anti-racist. Someone can be mentally ill and a racist. Someone can be an anti-racist alcoholic, while someone else can be an racist alcoholic. Correlation is not causation and one does not have to do with the other. An jerk is a jerk, just a different jerk if they’re mentally ill as well, or more dangerous if they have a coexisting addiction. And, if they are a jerk, they will use their disorder as a shield & throw mud on all the people who share their label.

  5. Sari says:

Floppy burnt mosquito Mel is welcomed in few circles. He’s a pest.

  6. Escondista says:

    God He looks terrible.

    • smcollins says:

His ugliness on the inside is now showing on the outside. So disappointing. He used to be one of my biggest celeb crushes back in the day, saw every one of movies (even going back to the more obscure ones before he hit it big). He was so beautiful back then and came across so funny & charming in interviews. He fooled a lot of people for a lot of years with that image, but a person’s true self will always eventually come out.

    • Esmom says:

He really does, I can barely look at him. And I don’t mean it in an ageist way. As smcollins said, it’s his inner ugliness coming through. *shudders*

  7. OriginalLala says:

maleness, whiteness and money protect the worst of the worst from ever facing consequences.

  8. Naomi says:

I know this is beside the point, but my god has he aged terribly. He looks like a gargoyle. I guess he caught a case of the Dorian Grays: his outside now matches his insides!

    • whatWHAT? says:

he really, REALLY has. as someone else noted, it’s almost painful to look at him.

alcohol, ciggies, and hate. that’s what they do to you when you overindulge in all three.

      *SHUDDERS*

  9. Maria says:

So gross. This guy is awful, pure scum, and his movies are so ridiculous.

I laugh every time Braveheart is on. Filmed in Ireland, with Irish musical pipes, random 19th century tartan kilt cosplay, no bridge at Stirling Bridge battle, FREEEEDUUUUUUMMMMMMM

I remember going to the Wallace monument in Scotland and the guide telling us about the awful Braveheart statue in Gibson’s image that they had to remove from the parking lot because everyone kept peeing on it etc, LOL.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

I snorted at people peeing on the statue! I remember when I was studying in Edinburgh, I had a professor who remarked on how odd it seemed that Gibson adopted the accent of a working class guy from Glasgow to play Wallace, a (minor) noble.

      • Maria says:

My tour guide said “A wee Mel Gibson doin’ a great Billy Connolly impression!” LOL

    • StormsMama says:

      Maria
Amazing! This is brilliant and hilarious detail!! Thank you!!

  10. Lara says:

Why would anyone watch UFC? Full of violent misogynists and racists and anti-semites and no doubt homophobes.

    • Miranda says:

The irony of all those raging homophobes being involved in the most homoerotic sport imaginable, though…

  11. Mcmmom says:

I’m so old, I remember when Mel Gibson was attractive.

He’s awful. I believe Robin, his ex wife, got a very handsome divorce settlement. Good for her – I cannot imagine what he was like at home.

  12. Amy Bee says:

Not surprising at all. Further proof that being cancelled is a myth.

  13. Sue Denim says:

Anyone else remember when Winona Rider was “canceled” for shoplifting, but this guy, Depp, Pitt, not to mention Trump, Kavanaugh, on and on and on and on…get to keep failing up.

    • milliemollie says:

Let’s not forget that Winona Ryder defended Depp and said that he never hit her and Amber Heard is “impossible to believe”. She helped smear Amber Heard with her handwritten statement.

    • Meg says:

Remember when mel asked winona if she was an oven dodger?

  14. LightPurple says:

Once upon a time, that man was stunningly beautiful. All the ugliness inside has made its way to the surface.

    • Traveler says:

Many moons ago, I actually thought he was charming. Little did I know.

    • Chickie Baby says:

Yes! Hard to believe he was People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive (OMG that cover shot of him was sigh-inducing) a loooong time ago. Oh, how the mighty shall fall.

    • abby says:

Yes! When I saw the pic, first thought was: he got the face he deserved.

  15. ce says:

Do we as Americans ‘salute’ our presidents? No. This is a cult, DT is a cult leader. These people won’t let it go that their baby Hitler lost and it sucks

  16. Giddy says:

It makes total sense that Mel Gibson would admire the worst President in American history. Two vile and hateful men. MG’s movies have been banned in my house for years.

  17. Sean says:

Mel may still be getting “work” but he’s no longer A-List. It seems everything he does lately is B-level VOD fair. He seems like such a has-been now. I hope that fall really bothers him.

  18. Guildish says:

Mel Gibson’s son Louie Gibson is married to Annet Mahendru (of The Americans fame). They’ve been together for a good 8-10 years. They have a child. Annet is bi-racial … Mother is Russian and Father is from India. Their wedding had dual ceremonies in Hindu and Christian.

I always wondered how well she is accepted by Mel Gibson because you never hear about her connections as his daughter-in-law even though they’re in the same industry.

    • Esmom says:

Interesting tidbit. I’d like to think Gibson’s son fell very far from the tree.

      • TEALIEF says:

@ESMOM and hopefully that apple rolled down the hill to get as far away from that tree as it could.

  19. Va Va Kaboom says:

    Terrible

  20. lunchcoma says:

I’m not surprised at all that he’s a Trump worshipper, and I’ve been disappointed by how fully he’s been accepted back into Hollywood. There are plenty of men at his age and level of fame who want to keep acting, so it’s not as if his huge star is needed to anchor all these projects.

  21. DC Gal says:

He will always remain William Wallace for me. The end.

I can’t with the rest. And the salute is creepy and weird and not even a MAGA thing, right?

  22. J ferber says:

Of course he did. They have their anti-Semitism to bond over and probably so much more.

  23. milliemollie says:

Of course he did. They have so much in common.

  24. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

One shit pile waves to another shit pile. Where’s the shovels?

  25. Renee says:

Gibson is a sexist, racist D-bag. The video moves so fast I miss the salute. I guess I’m not seeing it (I don’t doubt it happened, I just keep missing it).

  26. Robin says:

I’m so thankful I never rated this man or found him attractive – his fall from 1980s/90s fandom must be a shock to some. He always looked on the outside as he is on the inside.

    • TigerMcQueen says:

Same here! There are a handful (maybe 2 really) of his movies that I like, but mostly because of great supporting casts more than him. And I have always HATED Braveheart with the heat of twelve thousand suns.

His early goofy, good guy image struck me as schtick, and his sick love of violence in the movies he directed was a huge red flag to me (Apocalypto and Passion of the Christ, I’m looking at you). I was not surprised when the curtain was torn down to reveal the ugly person he is on the inside.

My mother (in the orange nixon cult) LOVES him though and has made all kinds of excuses for his behavior. I really, really hope the actors/celebs I admire personally aren’t hiding behind the same kind of curtain, but if they are, I also hope I’m not blind if the truth comes out.

  27. Muggs says:

    GROSS

I was there this weekend (for work) and it did my heart good to hear everyone say ugh when they found out he was coming. I also heard he got cheered then it was drowned out by boos, but I made it a point to be outside in the 117 degree heat when he was attention whoring

  28. Maryam says:

I live in Vegas and wondered what those stenches were.

  29. Katebush says:

Ugh I used to love Mel esp the first Max Max movie he was so gorgeous

  30. Kilo Tango says:

As someone who served in the military (UK) nothing makes my blood boil more than people banging out salutes that aren’t in uniform. It’s a military greeting of respect (for us a recognition of the Queens commission) and it doesn’t belong to these arseholes. I find this and the scientology saluting thing insulting to those that have served and a weak attempt at militarising their stupid cult like beliefs.
