Busta Rhymes: ‘No human being is supposed to tell you’ to wear a mask

Busta Rhymes shows off quarantine weight loss in NYC!

In the early days of the pandemic, remember how people were calling it karma corona? Obviously, people stopped calling it that because so many people were dying and referring to that as “karma” is pretty disgusting. The original reason why “karma” even came up in the discussion was because it truly felt like any time a person made some big, stupid, ignorant public statement about how the pandemic was a hoax and masks were for suckers, they were immediately struck down with a bad case of Covid-19. These days, there is still that horrible element of “live by the stupid, die by the stupid.” So many people filling up the hospitals across the country are the same people who called it a hoax last year, who think masks hurt their freedumb, and who think vaccines are a big conspiracy. All of this to say, I’m guessing Miss Delta Variant 2021 has already got her eyes on Busta Rhymes.

Busta Rhymes went viral Tuesday over a resurfaced clip of his anti-mask tirade, during which he blasted “little weird-ass government policies.” The “Break Ya Neck” rapper shared his political message in June during a break from his set as the surprise headliner at the Seoul Taco’s 10th anniversary block party in Missouri.

“This is my second show in front of human life in the last 15 f–king months,” the 49-year-old told the cheering crowd. “COVID can suck a d–k. All these little weird-ass government policies and mandates [can] suck a d–k.”

Busta, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., further claimed the government was trying to “take our civil liberties away” by forcing people to wear masks.

“It’s called the God-given right of freedom, right?” he continued onstage. “No human being is supposed to tell you that you can’t even breathe freely. F–k your mask. … Some of y’all might feel differently, but f–k your mask. We can’t eat food with a f–king mask on. We can’t even see each other’s smiles with a mask on.”

The “Make It Clap” rapper went on to blame masks for stifling people’s “energy,” including the vibe he puts out while flirting with women. “All of that energy gets blocked when our mask is on and energy is important,” he argued. “We are all conductors of f–king good energy.”

Busta closed out his set by apologizing for getting “a little political.”

I’m including the video below. It’s been 18 months – surely people can process the fact that “little weird-ass government policies and mandates” are not the actual problem? The problem is a deadly global contagion which has already killed 4.44 million worldwide in less than two years. I want to shake these people and scream “get over yourselves!!” Why are all of these idiots being so obtuse? Just get vaxxed, wear a mask and shut your f–king mouth. Jesus.

My kids schools in TN announced last night that they are going to STRONGLY reccomend masks. And kids that haven’t been vaxxed to quarantine. Reccomend!!! I live two counties over from the nationally televised Tennessee school board meeting. I sent my kid to school this year, because last year they were actually following policy. I just am so fed up!

  2. Lizzie says:

Hmm, taking bets that beside his pollical science and immunology expertise he is also an expert on military withdrawal from Afghanistan best practices.

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ Lizzie : Of course, he’s an expert! Just one more reason NOT to take your health advice from celebrities.

  3. OriginalLala says:

omg, if I hear another person whining “but mah freedums” when it comes to masks and COVID restrictions I think I may lose it…..these folks have too many screws loose.

    • Seraphina says:

I am tired of hearing people who think their opinion matters just because they made it in the entertainment industry. They lack the education to be permitted to comment – in this environment these idiots need to zip it. I get freedom of speech but this is adding fuel to an issue that has and is continuing to take lives.

      • OriginalLala says:

        100% agree!

      • Seraphina says:

No different that Charleston Heston’s crazy endorsement of the NRA. Meanwhile he lived in a safe and very secure area (Beverly Hills) and he did not have to experience the consequences of weapons being everywhere.

    • Trillion says:

This is a great time to be a thirsty, has-been celebrity . All you have to do is say some stupid shit about COVID and boom: instant clicks and attention! So easy! No talent required!

      • BothSidesNow says:

Or brains and common sense either apparently @ Trillion as well!!

If Busta wants to talk about freedumbs being taken away, why isn’t he blasting the Repugnant’s across the country passing these Jim Crow Era laws to restrict voting rights? Why isn’t he up in arms about that? Or, why isn’t he talking about the way to freedumb that we can stop having to wear masks by getting vaccinated?

In the end, Busta and all of the other stupid people up in arms about their freedumbs being taken away can STFU or stay home!!!

      • Kate says:

Hey now, he may be saying stupid sh*t – which is super disappointing – but he is one of my favorite rappers and is not a talentless has-been 🙁

Our kids here in this part of canada 12years old+ are vaxxed, go to school under mask mandate, but that is what parents want IN THIS SITUATION. I can tell you that last year they didnt wear a mask because they were home and web schooled – that was hard on them and much harder to do than to wear a mask. Protect your child and protect other children and protect your families. Kids adapt so well. Get over yourselves, wear the mask and stop being childish and selfish.

    • HoofRat says:

In our part of Canada, our provincial premier, health minister and education minister are all in hiding while our numbers go through the roof. Every school board is having to make their own rules around masks and distancing; some have abandoned them completely, some only require them on school buses, and some are reinstating masking rules from last year. What a stupid mess. At a family gathering on the weekend, I heard one young mother say defiantly that nobody was going to force her kids to wear a mask; I’m delighted to say her local school board is one of the sensible ones – and she hates homeschooling ;-).

      • Who ARE These People? says:

        Alberta or Ontario?

      • LeenaK says:

That’s gotta be Alberta… everyone’s talking about “where are they?” Kenney, Shandro, and LaGrange

      • Jordana says:

‘Berta? Sounds like the mess here. Kenney is tweeting out the weirdest nonnews stuff, meanwhile covid is well on the way to a 4th wave. He really must believe that if he doesnt acknowledge it, it doesn’t exist.

  5. TheOriginalMia says:

You’d think having COVID would have made him want to do better. Nope! Ignorance on high. Hope he’s as strongly anti-ventilator if the time comes. It’s a fing mask!

  6. BlueSky says:

Is Busta Rhymes going to pay the hospital bill when you end up sick? I’m so tired of these people. Black Americans are under vaccinated and are at risk of catching and dying of Covid-19 . I’m a black woman and I’m so tired of people like this spreading falsehoods with no consequences.

  7. Coji says:

You know what? No human being is supposed to be asshole enough to deliberately risk giving other people a potentially fatal illness.

  8. Shari says:

these dumb idiots. You are told to wear seat belts. You are told to drive at a certain speed. You are told to wear clothes while in public. There are MILLIONS of things we are told to do daily. And these idiots have made wearing a mask something special. They all need should STFD and STFU. I’m so sick of these idiots spouting off stuff just for attention.

    • whatWHAT? says:

add to that, restaurant cooks and servers are told to wash their hands after they use the bathroom.

I’m SURE all these anti-maskers would be absolutely fine with their server taking a massive, messy poo and then serving them food and drink without a hand-wash. because FREE-DUMB.

  9. Darla says:

Our new Governor in NY is ordering a mask mandate for schools, and I am so relieved. I have a small niece and nephew too young for vaccination, and I worry about them so much. I know their parents will be furious about this. They aren’t anti-vax like my other idiot brother (this set are both vaxxed), but they don’t want their kids in masks. They really believe their kids aren’t in danger from covid. They WERE likely exposed early in the pandemic because my SIL works in a nursing home and she did have it, and so did my brother. This was before you could even get a test. But they both had the antibodies later on. And the kids probably were exposed then, but hello? Delta delivers a higher viral load.

Anyway, I’m very happy with our new Governor so far.

  10. Miranda says:

“This is my second show in front of human life in the last 15 f–king months”? Shit, he should be thankful to play any shows at all. I totally forgot that he even existed until just now.

And I don’t think we can emphasize that death toll enough. 4.4 million and counting is STAGGERING (and there are actually even higher estimates), with 600K+ in the US alone, COVID-19 already ranks among the top 10 deadliest epidemics in history. There is absolutely NO REASON for that many deaths in the modern era, when we know how to protect ourselves and others, and have safe, effective vaccines.

  11. Seraphina says:

HMMMMM, he better be careful. Lady Karma has been dishing it out to those who are adamantly against precautions for COVID.

  12. Mac says:

I am so tired of this. People are dying pointless and preventable deaths every single day.

  13. Chill says:

    So Busta,
You do not stop at stop signs? How about smoking in public? How about wearing a seatbelt? Let’s see, do you stop at red lights? Do you go at green lights? FREEDOM!!!!

  14. Chaine says:

Do you catch his anger that he can’t see women’s faces? I think this is what makes a lot of these men angry, it’s interfering with what they believe is their God-given right to assess the attractiveness and sexual desirability of every woman they come across.

    • death by bacon says:

I did. So people are dying but he can not flirt effectively. Argggggggggg

    • whatWHAT? says:

and the converse – so many women have talked about how refreshing and relaxing it is to NOT have to wear make up and to be able to cover their face and NOT have the male gaze on them. and men like this are mad because, as you noted, they can’t judge desirability and it’s one less way for them to control women.

      • ME says:

They can still stare at your ass and boobs though. What they can’t do is see if you’re smiling back at them or not. God forbid men can’t date during a pandemic…because that’s all that matters right? This dude is a moron. I don’t understand why he was allowed to perform when he’s not vaccinated. We need strict rules so these morons will be forced to go get the vaccine.

      • olliesmom says:

And they can’t tell us “you’d be a lot prettier if you smiled more”.

      • Isa says:

I love not having men tell me to smile.

  15. rawiya says:

When he cut off his dreads, he cut off his common sense, kinda like Samson (and Delilah).

  16. Jan says:

Busta career was dead in the water after going on the Tonight Show (Leno) and saying Gays need to be bash or killed. You would think he got back lash to keep his pie hole close.

  17. Melly says:

Busta Rhymes been trash for years now. Nothing surprises me about this idiot any more!

  18. Annaloo. says:

I want to punch these people now. Sorry. I’m sick of people taking unnecessary risk

  19. Elaine Stritch says:

Says the guy who was on The Masked Singer.

  20. Julia K says:

Wonder how Mr Rhymes would react if his surgeon and the whole OR team decided not to mask up because of personal freedom?

  21. ME says:

Was he even doing shows before the pandemic? He’s acting like his career was super hot before Covid and now he can’t do all the shows he normally does. LOL ok dude. You are a f*cking moron. People like you are the reason this pandemic is lasting this long. People like you are the reason there are dangerous variants. F*ck you !

  22. Who ARE These People? says:

    What a schmuck

  23. death by bacon says:

I can not. Again the fact that its 2021 and foolish statements like this are not laughed out of hand. Woooooosaaaa, and serenity now.

  24. Meg says:

    Lo l freedumb love it

  25. Kippy74 says:

Well he’s making it pretty obvious that he’s an uneducated narcissist who is just whining because Covid has disrupted his preferred way of life. A terrible contagion has affected your sex life and ability to make money so you mad at it ! what a joke this fool is 😹😹

  26. Lemons says:

The LAST thing the surveillance state wants is to have an entire population with covered faces. All of those cameras for nothing. Why are the conspiracy theories so dumb now?

  27. Jules says:

Oh the logic! Another chapter of dumb celebs saying dumb stuff.

  28. Traveler says:

I am so sick of the idiocy.
Commit to refusing medical help and hospitalization as staunchly as you commit to breathtaking selfishness and ignorance.
    That’s all.

  30. Lila says:

I mean, if he’s bringing God into this, God also says to love your neighbor, to act unselfishly, and that life is precious.

  31. Robert says:

Let’s see if I can make this clearer for a few folks. You do have the right to not wear a mask. But to be a part of society you have to follow societies rules. If you don’t wear the mask keep your butt at home and don’t come outside. That is your freedom. If you want to move to the woods then don’t wear a mask. But if you want to live in a town or city. Follow the rules and wear a mask. Your freedom can’t hurt other people. And you are if you don’t mask up. It is also part of societies rules that I can’t break into your house and shoot you dead. But isn’t that infringing on my freedom? Freedom comes with conscequncies.

  32. Valerie says:

Okay. If he got it, he’d be quick to seek first-class treatment.

  33. Mandy Purr says:

Pretty sure the pandemic isn’t the only reason it’s only his 2nd show in 15 months. He once did a show at an absolute DIVE BAR in my hometown. To say this place is the lowest of the low is putting it nicely. Oh yeah, and he physically assaulted a female fan that night too. Busta ain’t shit.

  34. detritus says:

Has he never seen a no shirt no shoes no service sign? We get told to do a lot of things by social norming and policy.

  35. Isa says:

What I always think of when people start hollering about their rights are the veterans that fought for our freedom that are now trapped in nursing homes that will probably contract covid and pass away because people don’t care about them anymore. They can’t see their loved ones. They need help getting dressed, eating, and going to the bathroom, can’t leave, they’re dependent on people that may or may not be carrying a virus that can kill them.

  36. jferber says:

Okay, so can an ostrich tell you to wear a mask if a human can’t? Just asking. Busta Rhymes is a fool.
