Travis Scott got a school bus for Stormi so she could pretend to be middle-class

The Annual Parsons 2021 Benefit

Throughout history, royals, aristocrats and regular old celebrities have often craved a simpler life, the life of a peasant, some kind of humble farm life where the animals are always clean and someone else does the dirty work. In modern times, this is why celebrities buy ranches in Idaho and Wyoming. This is why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wanted to live full time at Anmer Hall. They want a very cultivated and highly selective taste of peasant life.

So too with Kylie Jenner and her daughter Stormi. Stormi is at that age where her parents are telling her about big-girl school, I’m assuming. She turned 3-years-old in February, so I would guess the child is already in some kind of pre-K or Zoom nursery school. But Stormi, the daughter of a billionaire mother and a millionaire father, has focused on one thing: the yellow school bus. She wants to be a normal kid who has a backpack and rides the school bus. So, obviously, her dad bought/rented a school bus for Stormi to play with for a day or two:

stormi school bus

This is what happens when mama drives a Lambo and daddy has a private plane. This kid already knows that other kids live different lives, with school buses and homework and school lunches. I wonder if Stormi’s older cousins have been telling her about school? Does Kim Kardashian even send her kids to a real school or are they homeschooled? Hm. Anyway, riding the bus isn’t all that and Stormi is just curious about it because she’s never experienced it, nor will she ever have to experience the real school bus ride or public transport or living on a budget.

(I will say this… while Kylie definitely buys/gets designer clothes for Stormi, the child does have a lot of normal little-kid clothes too. I’m sure all of the clothes are expensive, but Stormi isn’t constantly dressed up like a doll, so credit to Kylie and Travis for that, at least.)

I’m sorry but this is sad.

    • Penguin says:

The image of her walking the bus isle alone is heartbreaking honestly.

      • Calibration says:

        Same. Heartbreaking and sad.

      • Lightpurple says:

There is just so much conspicuous consumption and excess in this little girl’s life and she clearly just wants to be like other little kids. Send her to a pre-school in a middle class community, don’t buy her a school bus.

      • Ry says:

Meh. My hearts ok. I think she’ll be fine 🙂

    • Millenial says:

I agree. A bus is fun because it has tons of other kids on it. This just looks lonely and sad. Send her to outdoor day camp or something so she gets the real thing.

    • minx says:

Everybody in this extended family just rubs me the wrong way.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

It really IS sad. Do they not understand that it’s the company of other kids she hungers for–not an empty school bus?!?

    • Justjj says:

It’s very sad to think about a little kid pretending to ride a bus alone

  2. Hell Nah! says:

I was going to say something mean about Travis Scott and the ever-present hang-dog look he has on his face in every damn picture I’ve seen of him…but then I saw the cuteness of their little girl and I can’t say anything mean like that. She is freaking ADORABLE!

(I can’t do nuthin’ better than shake my head on the school bus)

    • Ry says:

She has her cousins and I’m sure friends and she’s only 3. When I look back on my life being on a bus wasn’t a highlight.
As for her dad? The guy was handed a deck and he had arguable talent and ambition. He played his hand and achieved his goals so why is that wrong.
Where would Rob be without money.

  3. goofpuff says:

I bought a bus for my child. It was about 3 inches long and a Hotwheels tho ;D

    • B says:

@Goofpuff LOL. I bought a bus for my neighbor that is also 3″ from CVS. He actually owns a school bus company 🤣.

  4. rainbowkitty says:

    Um, what?!

  5. CherHorowitz says:

This isn’t particularly relevant but it also fascinates how differently Americans refer to class than the English. It seems to be totally linked to your level of wealth in the US, whereas ‘hiring a school bus to pretend to be middle class’ would make no sense in England. The class system here is f*cked obviously but it remains that if you are working class no amount of money you could earn would change that.

Just to stress i am not a supporter of the english class structure whatsoever but it is fascinating nonetheless.

    • Jules says:

Trust me, this makes no sense in the US either. It’s gross and pretentious.

    • Noki says:

Very true how people like David Beckham are still refered to as ‘working class lad’ and Kate Middleton who is the FF Queen is still tagged as ‘middle class.’ And how a lot of aristos dont actually have a pot to piss in but are still able to look down their nose at people.

    • ItReallyIsYouNotMe says:

I don’t know that it’s so different in England. I remember being in the Smoky mountains when I was a child in the 80s and someone pointed out the vacation home enclave of the Uber-wealthy (I recall something about a top Disney executive with 8 kids). I said that I was surprised that the homes were not bigger/flashier and was schooled by my aunt that the generational Uber-rich do not flaunt their wealth. I think that is still true – you are seeing on Instagram the lives of the nouveau riche who buy this kind of stuff because they want to give their children the childhood they didn’t have. But the generational wealthy are much more low-key.

      • Paige says:

        @itreallyisyounotme,
I completely agree with your thinking.. Old money would never…I know some insanely wealthy people from all over the country (definitely not Hollywood types), and they are super low-key in their choices. A couple we know with their own 3 story parking garage in NY(!) would never drive anything but a FORD.. WE were excited to see their garage–(we’re POOR!) and imagined
they’d have something grand. Once inside you notice the custom carpet custom sound specialized seats..bullet proof windows..Old money style. They do not flaunt…that is the ultimate in tacky.
The wife has exquisite style….I loved her older black Cartier tank.-of course she is thin and had SHORT well groomed nails with the faintest sheer polish…simple outfit, simple hair and VERY little work done … The Kardashians are the antithesis
of old money….They are the average Americans idea of “Rich People”

    • Ange says:

I don’t get it either. I see a lot of Americans saying they’re middle class but also that they’d be in trouble pretty quickly if they lost their jobs. To me that’s not middle class, that’s working class. Middle class means you have a bit of money behind you and probably some reasonably self sustaining assets. Now I doubt the English definition would include vulgar people like the Kardashians but it’s interesting seeing how different countries define it.

  6. August Rain says:

This could be the picture illustrating “materialism” in the dictionary: confusing the experience of riding a school bus with the motorized vehicle. 🤦🏽‍♀️

  7. lucy2 says:

I miss the days when the insanely wealthy would just do ridiculous crap like this without telling the whole world. No one wants to see them playing middle class.

    • Veronica S. says:

It shows you the strength of the propaganda, to be honest, because the wealthy straight up show us how much they’re screwing the rest of us over daily now. Still, a lot of people happily open their mouths and swallow the false narrative they vomit up so they can pretend they will one day be a hypothetical millionaire that may risk being taxed at 50%.

    • ME says:

Yeah I mean why do they have to post things like this? What is the point? I wonder how much they would actually spoil their kids if social media didn’t exist. I wonder how much money they would actually spend if they couldn’t show it off on social media. Makes you wonder. Are we supposed to be jealous by this? Anyone can rent a school bus for a few hundred bucks.

      • Jules says:

I know, they are so out of touch with reality and the real world. Showing off makes them feel good because they have no true sense of self worth.

      • lucy2 says:

That’s a good point, how much of it is for the kid, and how much is content for posting.

  8. Leanne says:

I think I once saw a post of Kim taking her kids to school..but it seemed very staged. I assume they are all homeschooled..which would make this quite a sad picture.

  9. Michaell says:

I guess I am the only person that thought this was cute. Materialism aside I know Travis did not grow up wealthy and he is probably just doing what he thinks expresses his love for his child. I do not think he is “playing middle class,” I think that is his mindset. Maybe Kylie is playing middle class because she has always been wealthy. Also, for the record, I believe Kim and Kourtney send their kids to the same private school. I have seen a lot of pics of North and Penelope in their school uniforms hanging out together on campus

  10. Jules says:

I really, really really feel bad for all the K-J children born into this trash family.

    • Hell Nah! says:

Me too. None of them had a chance from the get-go.
Poor little kids. (yes, the irony is heartbreaking).

  11. Noki says:

This is the definition of missing the point. The little girl probably saw kids on the disney and nickelodeon channel having fun on a school bus and craved that whole experience, you know with other kids. She has enough cousins to have made this a fun play date and not just dump another vehicle in their drive way. Smh

    • Sigmund says:

Exactly. The picture of her alone on the bus seems very sad. Likely the reason she wanted to ride a school bus was the social part of it, not literally be on the bus itself.

  12. Amanda says:

Not sure how “middle class” it is to buy your kid a bus, but okay.

  13. smcollins says:

I’d like to pretend I’m a millionaire/billionaire but playing at that role is harder to do from the other end of the spectrum. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

  14. Psudohnihm says:

We have a farm. Like a GIANT farm with more tractors than I can count. My little boy was always around tractors, like it was No big deal but let him stumble across a tractor anywhere else it’s like he spotted old Nessie. Oh but he wants to see and touch the tractor and ride on the tractor etc etc. much to my husbands dismay. so I don’t necessarily think it’s about wanting what she can’t have, some kids just like big machines.

  15. Ann says:

I know those look like normal little kid clothes, and it’s good that she lets her kid just be comfy, but I bet they were actually very expensive.

  16. Ohlala says:

    Trash

  17. psl says:

These parents are so tone deaf. Pretty sure the reason why Stormi wants to ride a school bus is because of THE OTHER KIDS ON THE BUS.

I feel bad for Stormi. All those kids will never have a material want in their lives, but it does not seem to making their parents happy people…..

  18. CROOKSNNANNIES says:

Regarding the school bus- my high school was ridiculous. I was on scholarship at this ridiculous prep school in the South (several years after graduation and the debutant season rolled around) and there was parking specifically for seniors and juniors in two different lots. As a senior I got kicked out of senior parking for having too many detentions or some BS like that. The disadvantage was that the junior lot was “farther away.” As in two blocks away, instead of adjacent to the school. However, we had a school bus that drove us from the lot to the high school. Again, two blocks. The bus did not actually pick anyone up or drop anyone off at their homes. Because everyone had a nice car (except for me, but I maintain my cheap and ancient and finicky VW bug was amazing) and didn’t need the ride. Or they were too young to drive but their SAHM (no hate, just the situation) would drive them.

Was it at this level? No, but it was absurd.

  19. Snap Happy says:

This is meh to me. He just wanted to make his daughter happy and it’s his money to spend. He gave her an experience. Yes, I realize there were no kids on it but it’s also a pandemic so that’s the safest way.

  20. Remy says:

They might be playing middle class, but they’re not playing SoCal middle class, because most public school kids around here don’t ride school buses.

  21. Cindy says:

I don’t see any problem with it. I have similarly-aged kids, and they are obsessed with school buses! I’m from the country, and my old bus driver would leave kids in the middle of nowhere if they misbehaved. Seriously. All kids should have a school bus experience at that age, and it’s not her fault that she’s unable to take a regular bus.

  22. Aimee says:

It’s ok to be rich but you don’t have to flaunt it like they all do. It’s disgusting.

    Good luck to the children.

  23. Bettyrose says:

It’s weird that I don’t really think of these kids as privileged. Sure the K-J’s have obscene conspicuous wealth but they’re not comfortable in their own skin. If she’s like her mom and aunts, she’ll basically earn a GED with no marketable skills. And her whole life will be hustling and selling her image. Meanwhile, the other children of massively rich parents will go to top schools and get a leg up entering their chosen professions. If all that money ends up paying for Stormi to get a real education and have choices in life, then I’ll admit she has an enviable existence but nothing about her family is enviable so far.

  24. olliesmom says:

    Wait. What?

And then the rich wonder why we all hate them so much. No they don’t.

Maybe when she’s done playing in it when she gets bored they could donate it to a school district who needs a bus.

  25. Sarah says:

When I got married, we did a pub crawl a couple of days before for the out of town guests and the highlight for my British uncle was riding on a yellow school bus when we went from pub to pub. He was so excited because it was like the movies. 😆

    • bettyrose says:

That’s hilarious because it’s always portrayed in movies as a particularly hellish childhood experience. Sixteen Candles, anyone?

      • BeanieBean says:

Didn’t see the movie, but I certainly don’t look back at my schoolbus-riding days with fond memories. Bloody awful.

  26. Winterberry says:

You have to feel sorry for the kid. Her parents aren’t educated or cultured and buying things is the only way they can show their love.

  27. OliviaJoy says:

I hope someone actually drove her around in the school bus and she wasn’t forced to just look at it for a couple days. Lol

  28. Willow says:

What is life like for reality show, instagram, youtube, children? Is everything a photoshoot? Every happy, sad, funny moment redone for the cameras? And what happens when there are no adults around to protect these kids from the teasing and bullying they will get because everything about them is public? They have no privacy and all of this will be on the internet forever. This is not a healthy way for children to grow up.

    • Jules says:

Right? Along these lines… the baby that is on the cover of Nirvana’s album is now an adult and suing Nirvana for p0rn. Not sure if he has a case, but it does raise the issue of children now adults who were used online by their parents for instagram or youtube fame.
