Prince Albert: Charlene is ‘ready to come home,’ possibly as soon as this month

Back in mid-August, Princess Charlene underwent a four-hour surgery to fix some issue with her serious ENT infection. The Prince’s Palace in Monaco confirmed the surgery and they also confirmed that Prince Albert would bring their children down to South Africa for a visit. That happened about a week later, and Charlene dutifully posted photos on her Instagram, which you can see in this post. Gabrielle and Jacques seemed happy-ish to see their mom, but Albert seemed… I don’t even know. The vibe was weird all around, if we’re being honest. The vibe was messy, the vibe was that Charlene and Albert have many secrets. But Albert is still sticking with his runaway bride. He chatted with People Magazine:

Monaco’s Princess Charlene is “eager” to return home and hopes she can once again reunite with her family — this time in Monaco — sooner than expected, Prince Albert tells PEOPLE. In his first interview since returning from a visit with his wife and children in South Africa, the 63-year old sovereign provided a medical update and fired back at media reports that suggest marriage troubles, not medical issues, have kept their family apart.

“She’s ready to come home,” Albert tells PEOPLE exclusively. He notes that her return date to Monaco “depends on what her doctors say,” and if her progress continues she could plan her travel for as soon as this month.

“I know she’s said possibly ‘late October,’ ” says Albert, “but that was before this most recent round of appointments. I’m pretty sure we can cut that time frame a little short. She’s ready. She’s jokingly said that she’s ready to stowaway on a ship to come back to Europe.”

Albert tells PEOPLE that his wife’s well-being has improved since her most recent four-hour long surgery on August 13. “She was in good spirits.”

During their family reunion last week in South Africa, Albert accompanied his wife on a doctor’s appointment where they met with the surgeon who performed her most recent operation to get “a new reassessment about how things are holding up.”

More enjoyably, the princess was able to bond in person with her 6-year-old twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, for the first time since early June. “Of course she was delighted to see us and to spend time with the kids,” says Albert.

Curious that Albert mentioned that detail about going to Charlene’s doctors’ appointments. Perhaps Albert doesn’t really understand what’s going on with Charlene either? Perhaps he went to South Africa to confirm that Charlene really has been going through all of these medical procedures? This is honestly one of the most bizarre gossip stories I’ve ever covered. I thought it was an escape story but now I feel like it’s something else entirely. As for the idea of Charlene going back to Monaco sooner rather than later… lord knows. Albert is uncomfortable with this situation, and clearly he believes she should be able to “recover” back in Monaco. I don’t disagree.

Update: Apparently, Charlene collapsed this morning and she was rushed to the hospital in South Africa. It’s being said that there were some complications with her surgery, but there’s no confirmation thus far about what exactly is going on, but they do say that she’s stable now.

Baby girl gives the best stink-eye I’ve seen for the longest time.
I wish Princess Charlene all the best for her recovery, wherever she may recuperate, I hope it’s the best place for her overall health
But now I’m beginning to wonder WHY baby girl was giving such stink eye.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

OMG, the bangs! Yes, the daughter exudes some serious attitude. She’s obviously angry. Is she angry at her mom or dad or both? Good grief, imagine what she will be like as a teenager.

      • Cessily says:

She looks just like my younger sister after her beautician phase (around the same age), her bangs and the hair of every doll became a victim of her artistic vision lol..

  2. OSTONE says:

This whole arrangement gives me major creepy vibes. From the runaway bride, to the crying bride, to the haircuts, photos.. everything. I hope she is okay. I read on DeuxMoi last night that she was again admitted to the hospital for a “breakdown”

  3. Here4Tea says:

    Yuck!

  4. OriginalLala says:

I hope she is ok…clearly she is dealing with some severe medical issues and I wish her a quick recovery

  5. HandforthParish says:

I thought there was an update that she had been hospitalised after complications in her surgery?

    • Nancy says:

Yes I saw that update. It was complications from surgery not a breakdown. I have spent some time looking at those Insta photos and frankly I don’t see anything off about them. Princess G giving stink eye is hilarious, I have a grand who does this anytime a camera is stuck in her face and she doesn’t feel like having her picture taken. She isn’t angry, she’s just not in the mood. Maybe she just didn’t want those bangs recorded for posterity.

  6. FHMom says:

I just hope she isn’t being coerced by Albert and his people. He must be concerned with the optics and want Charlene home. He can’t be pleased that people are talking.

  7. Mary Mae says:

I don’t think we will ever get the real story on this until after Albert passes on. There is clearly something going on, but the official story doesn’t seem logical.

I’m no PR person, but they really should have kept it simple and concise and asked for privacy as Charlene was dealing with unspecified health issues in her home country. Maybe add a line she chose to deal with this there so she could comfortably spend time with her extended family who could better support her through this during the pandemic. No PR stunts. Just maybe updates Albert saying we’ve seen her and she’s is doing well and we hope to have her here with us soon. That’s it.

There would still be talk, but there was always going to be talk about this.

  8. PhD gossip says:

Charlene is clearly unwell, all bundled up. Just sad.

  9. Roo says:

It sounds like that poor woman has some serious health challenges. One side of her face looks different and she appears fragile. I hope she recovers and can enjoy her children and good health.

  10. AmelieOriginal says:

I hope she is okay, this story is just sad on all levels. Whether she is dealing with physical or emotional issues, I truly hope she makes it through this. I just find it bizarre to have her separated from her kids for that length of time. It is possible she isn’t physically well enough to care for them herself so maybe that’s why it was thought it would be best to keep them in Monaco. But regardless of what is going on between Charlene and Albert, I really hope she can make it back to Monaco/France soon, just to be near her kids. The fact that Albert has been totally okay leaving his spouse for months in South Africa while she undergoes multiple surgeries rings so many alarm bells. If he truly cared about her, he would go to South Africa and stay with her. I get there’s COVID and everything but I do wonder if there was no COVID, would he be there for her?

    • Fortuona says:

So who runs the Pricipality then ? He just cannot take months off to go to a different country

      • notasugarhere says:

This. Unlike many other monarchs, Albert has a significant role to play in the day to day running of government.

    • goofpuff says:

The kids have many nannies along with an army of servants just for them. Albert and Charlene don’t actually take care of their kids like regular folk. Albert doesn’t go everywhere with his children.

They can 100% be with Charlene even now and she wouldn’t even have to lift a finger to take care of them. So needing Albert around or it being a burden childcare is kind of silly excuse.

  11. HandforthParish says:

Having looked at the pictures in more detail, that poor woman looks terminally ill. I hope she is ok.
And I know it is not on to pick on kids but these two are giving me major Children of the Corn vibes.

    • Liz version 700 says:

She does look extremely unwell. The kind of unwell you can’t fake or hide. I am hoping she has a good outcome.

      • LillyfromLillooet says:

I take back everything I ever said about this illness being a ruse. Something is seriously wrong. I wish her well.

  12. molly says:

I won’t type what I think happened with this recent “collapse”, but I really hope she recovers physically, mentally, and emotionally from whatever illness she’s dealing with.

  13. P says:

She is not going back. And she looks really ill.

  14. Cessily says:

She looks very fragile, whatever her health issues are it is very obvious they are serious. I hope she can recover soon.

  15. jferber says:

Yes, she looks really ill. I don’t like the idea of Albert going to her med appointments. That’s creepy as hell since he’s clearly not a supportive person and maybe wants to bully/pay off her doctors to say she’s well enough to return. It’s obvious to me she’ll die if she’s forced to return. Whatever that bastard is doing/has done to her is killing her. I said what I said.

  16. Shawna says:

Poor woman. All the best, fingers crossed.

  17. TeeMajor says:

Maybe I watch too much Lifetime but I don’t trust him, he may have put something in her beverage to make her ill. He will from now on make all of the decisions and bring her back.
I don’t put anything past him, from now on she will be a shell of her former self-and he has all control w/his creepy self.

I wish her the best, where are her parents or siblings? You know someone on her side truly,

  18. thecookingpan says:

According to the SA press she collapsed on Wednesday, was admitted and then discharged on Thursday. But then an update came out saying she’s still in hospital.🤷‍♀️ And if you look at the pics she has bruising around her eyes. There was some about removing bone fragment from her septum. But I agree, she looks sicker than someone with a bad sinus op. I hope she is ok.

  19. Kynesgrove89 says:

She looks so frail. I wonder if the weirdo PR isn’t covering something serious. I hope it isn’t cancer or something awful like that.

  20. Elisa says:

I hope Charlene will be okay.
Have y’all heard this song by Anthony Hamilton? “C’mon home, to me, CHARLENE!”

  21. PrincessK says:

Sounds like a mental breakdown which is being covered up as something else. Very sad, especially for the children and the long term impact on them.

  22. Naomi says:

More details from SA: “According to News24, the former Olympic swimmer had a medical emergency at the lodge where she has been staying, while recovering and was rushed to the Netcare Alberlito Hospital in the coastal town. She was apparently emitted to the hospital under an alias.

Netwerk24 said that it had received an official but “vague” statement from the palace with an update on the Princess Charlene’s medical condition.

“The princess is currently recovering in South Africa where her medical team advised she does not travel until all the necessary procedures have been completed. The princess was due to undergo another procedure on 3 September,” the principality said, “before she suddenly collapsed,” the palace told Netwerk24 in the statement.

  23. Lea says:

I used to think that it was an elaborate cover-up for an upcoming divorce but in her recent pictures she looks really unwell and in some pictures it looks like the side of her face is swollen.
The situation is still weird though. Why haven’t the children spent more time with her during the summer ? I suppose Monaco is like France when it comes to summer breaks so they had plenty of time (2 months!) to go and see their mum in South Africa. I understand that Albert can’t leave Monaco for too long but he could have easily sent the kids with security and nannies.

  24. PurpleDaisy says:

Brain tumours can be operated on via the nose… ENT? Or patients often cut hair short so the shaved surgery site doesn’t look so obvious….. SA ‘may’ have more experienced neurosurgeons than Monaco…. A parent may not want their child exposed to this situation if they have other options…..

  25. Ania says:

She looks so fragile. I’ve just lost someone to cancer and it looks too similar, and being too unwell to travel… God I hope I’m wrong.
