Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell got engaged last September. He proposed while they were out on some kind of camping trip in New Mexico, and he ended up getting her a really pretty and appropriate rose-cut diamond ring. Big enough for a well-known actress but not too big for everyday wear. I didn’t even know they had gotten around to planning their wedding, but they went through with it quietly. They got married last Saturday, the 4th, in Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado. It seemed to be a purely outdoor wedding, and they posed for their wedding photos by a waterfall!
Lily wore Ralph Lauren – while we can’t see every detail on the gown, it appears to be long-sleeved, with a full lace overlay, fitted with a high neck. Her updo is lovely (she has nice hair), and in lieu of a veil, she seemed to wear a hooded lace cape which makes her look like Joan of Arc or something. Really beautiful.
Some of the messages she posted with her IGs: “I’ve never wanted to be someone’s someone more than I do yours, and now I get to be your wife. On September 4th, 2021 we officially became each other’s forever. I love you beyond @charliemcdowell…Never been happier. What started as a fairytale, is now my forever reality. I’ll never be able to properly describe how otherworldly this past weekend was, but magical is a pretty good place to start…”
PS… I still think it’s funny/interesting that before he started dating Lily, Charlie had a years-long relationship with Rooney Mara. Rooney dumped him for Joaquin Phoenix and the rest is history. Anyway, I’m happy for these two.

Also, Ted Danson is his step-dad. Charlie was the first director I worked with (as an art department assistant) when I moved to Hollywood about 15 years ago, and he’s made a couple interesting indie films.

I adore Malcolm McDowell as he is a phenomenal actor and has been for decades!! And it wouldn’t suck to have Mary Steenburgen as your mother, she seems so down to earth and a very lovely woman.

Lily was once a very entitled girl that felt she earned her way into acting on merit while her father made phone calls for her to get jobs. She spoke (like Selma did) about growing up wearing vintage Chanel and that meant you were not well off because it wasn’t the latest season.
But just before meeting her now husband she became less thirsty and has really seemed to have come into adulthood as well enough adjusted. Good for her. The dress is lovely and the hood cape works for the backdrop.

I was obsessed with Time After Time when I was younger… MMcD and MS might have been my first “ship” and I was tickled when they paired up in real life and sad when they split. (And horrified when I learned about A Clockwork Orange, refused to watch it for years because I didn’t want to wreck my more romantic image of MMcD lol!)

I really liked his first film The One I love with Elisabeth Moss and Mark Duplass. Looks like he’s doing a film with Collins called Gilded Rage. He lives just south of Santa Barbara on the beach and seems like a low key guy. Famous parents and step-parent. They have a darling rescue dog that is featured a lot in their Instagram.
Sat next to him and Mara years ago at the SB Biltmore bar after Rooney Mara had been at a presentation at the SB Film festival. She was definitely an awkward person.

When I got married, my wedding was in July and my gown had a high neck and long sleeves. It’s not like she’s wearing flannel or velvet lol.
I know, I know. I’m just bitter, I guess. Before COVID ruined our plans, I was going to be an autumn/winter bride with a church wedding, but every dress I fell in love with was airy and summery, so my thinking was, “why cover up so much if you don’t have to?” Also, I’m short and, ahem, lavishly endowed, so high necklines don’t really work on me, and I kinda hate anyone who can wear them (not really!).

I’m going by astronomical seasons. If I were going just by weather, I’d say it doesn’t feel like autumn until like, mid-October these days.
My bday is just before the last day of summer…which is Sept. 21st. So unless you live in a cold climate, have to get every drop in!

It is a dramatic look but I kind of love it. She looks like something out of Arthurian legend, lol. Very romantic. I’m one who got really tired of seeing all of the plain strapless wedding dresses that just looked like long white cocktail dresses, so I appreciate her doing something different. And the waterfall is beautiful.

I’ve followed Charlie McDowell on Twitter since his Dear Girls Above me days lol, so I knew his mom was Mary Steenburgen and his stepfather was Ted Danson before most people did (not familiar with his dad though he’s also an actor). For those unaware, he used to live in an apartment where he could overhear these two super ditzy women living above him and would tweet the stupid things they would say. Looking back, I’m sure he embellished their conversations and exaggerated some mildly funny things he overheard. His Twitter account was pretty popular and he even wrote a book about the experience (you can find the book on Amazon still). So that’s how I know him, not from being Rooney Mara’s ex or Lily Collins’s husband.
Also he definitely has a type, Lily is Rooney’s doppelganger in some pictures. Very pretty dress and locale, they are a good-looking couple. I don’t like the hood veil though, it gives me Snow White/Little Red Riding Hood vibes (I know Lily played Snow White in a movie).
