Regina King wore a sequin-lined Michael Kors pinstriped gown to the Met Gala

Regina King had the best Michael Kors look last night. She walked the carpet with the designer. I’m floored by the detail which I put in the title, the fact that the jacket is lined with gold sequins! That really makes the dress pop. I wasn’t a fan of her hair, but that’s a minor thing. I love seeing Regina’s fashion and she’s really brought it lately.

Kate Hudson’s Michael Kors is just OK. It’s blush pink, it’s feminine and pretty and yet her styling is off somehow. I think it’s the matchy makeup. I like the quilted lining on her feather cape.

Model Adut Akech was looking business glam in a white Micheal Kors suit with a sequin bustier and matching tuxedo jacket. Somehow she’s making that mullet work.

Finally Camila Cabello was in a cheap-looking purple sequin Michael Kors with a tank top and open skirt. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her get it right on a red carpet. Her boyfriend, Shawn Mendes, just looks dippy. Ooh he looks like Jamie Tartt when he went to the charity gala on Ted Lasso?! Right?

I don’t understand Michael Kors. It looks like a Zara imitation of a Zara imitating a designer minus whatever made the original great.

  2. rainbowkitty says:

Adut Akech is so beautiful that I didn’t even notice the mullet at first. I love her outfit, simple and comfortable and glam.

Camilla and Shawn, yawn. These two are boring.

    • Yup, Me says:

      Agreed on all counts.

Shawn’s outfit looks like it’s supposed to be a reference to wild and shirtless 80′s rockers, but the poor baby looks like he still scrunches up his eyes and lips when he kisses.

He always looks so incredibly vanilla.

I like every outfit in this post less and less as I scroll down lol. Love Regina King’s, I bet those sequins really sparkled in person, Kate Hudson’s dress is fine but I feel like we have seen her in that before, and by the time I get to Camilla I feel like she’s just in a sparkly sports bra.

I feel like most of the michael kors stuff that is put out for regular people (that is, not the high fashion runway stuff) is derivative of other designers. His flats look like ferragamo or tory burch, his purses basically look like coach. This dress, however, is stunning and (not like I’m a super fashion expert) I have never seen anything like it. Regina King is amazing and I love that I have been watching her since she was on 227

    • Christina says:

I thought the same thing. She was adorable and stole the show on 227 as a kid. Looking at her face now and how she works that dress! It makes my heart full.

Another one of the ladies in LA who I always loved and admired.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ manda, I personally hate Michael Kors and avoid his clothing, bags, etc. because he is a copycat. He steals everyone’s designs and sells them as his own. I don’t think I have bought more than 2 pairs of his shoes, and they were poor quality to boot!! I have never bought one of his bags either. Kors manufactures crap and copies everyone else. I always wondered why he was so highly thought of on Klums show with the designers. Sorry, my hate is real for this man, lazy conniving con artist.

Regina looks like a goddess, and rightly so as she has historically nailed the red carpet for the last 5-7 years. She always looks stunning!! Me I love her hair here too!!

Adult Akech looks fabulous as well!! She is certainly pulling off her mullet very well, I might add!! I didn’t think I would ever be able to look at another mullet in my lifetime, but she pulls it off!!

      Everyone else, bless their hearts!!!

As a Canadian I think I’m missing the point… what do all of these looks have to do with American Independence? Sincerely asking.

  6. TQ says:

I love Regina and love her as a fashion icon. She takes amazing risks and her figure is stunning. But this outfit isn’t doing it for me. It feels too business or something with those pin stripes. Like a version of a 1980s banker’s suit. I would have loved perhaps contrasting fabrics on the dress or a different silhouette. I don’t know, it could just be Kors couture often seems to be missing something, and these looks definitely are a disappointment.

    • Coco says:

I didn’t see the sequin lining last night, and I like it better without it. I’d prefer silver sequins, at least. Still, she looks great in everything.

    • josephine says:

I liked her look for the theme — that 80′s suit is definitely a slice of American fashion. Even her hairstyle played along. But I disliked the rest of the looks.

  7. Betsy says:

I don’t know what the theme was, but I have looked at all the pages so far and apart from a very few dresses, I’m pretty sure the theme was “fugly.” Other than Regina King’s dress (boring workaday dress, love the sequin lining), this page’s theme appears to be “bra top fugly.”

  8. mellie says:

I like Regina’s look, but she looks good in everything….so maybe that’s it, same with Kate Hudson. Not sure about Kate’s hair/makeup, meh.

  9. Jo73c says:

I love Regina King’s outfit, even if I’m not generally a Kors fan.
She looks like a (literal) boss!
Also thought Adut Akech looks great. How is she making that mullet look good??

  10. girl_ninja says:

Cabello looks like she brought her hairdresser with her to a party. That dress looks like her mother stitched it together.

  11. MsIam says:

I liked all of these, even the purple. I guess I’m a philistine.

  12. SarahLee says:

Shawn Mendez wishes he looked like Jamie Tartt. Granted that was the look he was going for, but he fails.

  13. ReginaGeorge says:

    Regina looks great.

Adut has a face that can probably pull off anything, because her beauty is distracting. She is fkn gorge!

  14. Athena says:

I thought she nailed the theme and so did Lupita in the denim gown and Taraji Henson who was giving Pam Grier, blaxploitation vibes.

  15. wordnerd says:

I wish they’d stop trying to make Camilla happen…she’s not going to happen.

    • ME says:

Her singing career is going pretty well though…

      • Beach Dreams says:

Not exactly. Her biggest hits have all been collaborations or features on someone else’s song. It took her several panned attempts before she finally struck gold with Havana. Her second album flopped and her new single isn’t doing so hot in the US either.

  16. ME says:

Regina kills it every time. She’s also an extremely talented actress.

  17. so says:

Did Camila Cabello had bad Botox or something ? Her upper face looks weirdly asymmetric recently.
