Catherine Zeta-Jones in Cristina Ottaviano at the Emmys: lovely and glam?

Catherine Zeta-Jones was one of the earlier arrivals at the Emmys. She was a presenter and was there to support her husband, Michael Douglas, who was nominated for Lead Actor in a comedy for The Kominsky Method. (That category went to Jason Sudeikis of course!) When she was asked for the name of her dress designer, she mumbled and it was really hard to hear. I had to google for about ten minutes to figure out who she was wearing! She was in this burgundy Cristina Ottaviano gown featuring a high leg slit, a chiffon trail and a fitted bodice. This is old Hollywood glam and is perfect for her.

Uzo Aduba was also in Cristina Ottaviano, in this gorgeous bright pink flowy strapless chiffon gown. This is so gorgeous. Uzo was nominated for In Treatment. My mom watches and loves that show, and Uzo is excellent in it. It’s a little deep and serious for me, but I enjoyed the couple of episodes I watched. Uzo has three Emmys, one for Mrs. America and two for Orange is the New Black. She also just revealed that she got married a year ago to cinematographer Robert Sweeting. Congratulations!

Tracee Ellis Ross was in a red sequin off the shoulder Valentino. This is so disco and very much looks like something her mom would wear back in the day. She has so much fun with her fashion and it shows.

America Ferrera was also rocking a bold solid print, in this Juan Carlos Obando purple slip dress. This is so simple and elegant.

The colour on Uzo’s dress! OMG I’m in love! Traci looks fab as well…that dress is slinky and sexy and has a touch of the 70’s in it.

  2. SM says:

CZJ has been wearing the same dress to awards show for the past 15 years. So boring.

    • Eating Popcorn says:

Exactly – came here to say this! Traci & America – effortless grace! Uzo – just killing it!

    • josephine says:

I thought the same but I will give her this — the color was beautiful and it fit perfectly. It was a night of ill-fitting dresses, so it was nice to see one that fit as it should.

    • iconoclast59 says:

@SM, Catherine dresses nicely for the red carpet, but IMO, her style has always been too staid and matronly for someone as young* as beautiful as her. *I know there are rumors that she’s at least several years older than her stated age, but she’s been dressing “old” for years now.

      • BeanieBean says:

She’s always dressed her husband’s age.

      • PinkestSlip says:

She’s definitely aging backwards. I was in school with her, and am almost, but not quite, a year older. First I noticed that it was stated she was 1 or 2 yrs younger than me in the media, and I wondered if it was a random media error. Then it was 3 or 4 years, then 6 or 7. Now I read she’s around 8 or 9 years younger than me. She’s clearly not very clever, and never was, but to imagine that no one will notice her age sliding down is nuts. I’m 58, and she is nearly 58: that’s ALL there is to it. She’ll be 59 soon, but she’s claiming she’s just about to turn 52!! Her 50th birthday was an out and out lie, all the coverage was “50th b’day celebration,” when she was actually 57…

    • Debbie says:

I thought the same thing too about CZJ’s style. Still, she knows what suits her, she’s like Sofia Vergara and her strapless, fitted dresses w/ fish tails.

I liked Tracey’s look too, it suited her. America’s gown is basis but the color suits her. However, that lowcut neckline does her no favors from sideways. It makes her boobs look sad and droopy. She needs more support than that gown provides. Uzo’s gown… that Pepto Bismol color is so strong, and the teenage style of that dress doesn’t suit her.

  3. Becks1 says:

That’s a very on-brand look for Catherine (as in, I feel like she wears that same dress a lot) but it looks good on her and she obviously likes it, so whatever.

America looks great – love that shade of purple!

I LOVE Tracee’s dress – it looks fun and relatively comfortable. She looks great in it.

    • BothSidesNow says:

I think Tracee owns her look!! I don’t think I have ever seen Tracee in anything bad and she is absolutely stunning as well!!! I LOVE her in everything she wears!!!
I agree that CZJ has kept the same style her entire career, taking on a bit of old Hollywood somewhat. Sofia Vegara wears the same style dress. I think that they stick with what they think looks the best for their frame/figure.

But Tracee, Uzo and America all knocked it out if the park last night!!!

  4. Alexandria says:

CZJ face work is not good.

America’s dress is too simple but she still looks great!

    • The Hench says:

Yeah – that was my first reaction with the header pic of CZJ. Dress looks great. Face is a case of “Holy fillers, Batman!”. She’s got that thing going where the cheeks are so full the eyes are being squeezed shut and her whole face looks like it’s spread. Again, ladies – the aim is “fabulous for your age” not “can I look 25 again?”.

My observation is that, if you’re going to try and look younger and have the cash, it seems best just to go straight to a mid or full face lift than keep whacking plastic into your face. I’d lay money that those who look great for their age – the Jane Fondas and Helen Mirrens of this world have gone down this road – hence why they look amazing for their age whilst still looking like themselves.

ETA any Celebitches with better plastic surgery knowledge than me care to weigh in?

      • iconoclast59 says:

@The Hench — I agree. Fillers and Botox are the work of the devil. It’s way too easy to overdo it, and there are seemingly too few doctors who understand the meaning of “light touch” when it comes to injectables.

      • Paige says:

100% THE HENCH…This is what I always say…Old school eye job better than botox…Old school face lift better than fillers…The only actress that has successfully pulled off so far is JLO…CZJ looks 10 years older than she should..

  5. Nikki says:

I’m not a big fan of the sky high leg slit; it just looks a bit try-hard to me. LOVED all the other looks here!

  6. FHMom says:

I love all the dresses except for CZJ. The slit looks not good.

  7. Grumpier than thou says:

Loved America’s dress – and those earrings are perfection with it!

  8. Susan says:

This may have been said on another post (this is my first read!) but man, was this awards ceremony like the BEST EVER for fashion in quite some time?! So many great looks, so many great colors, I love it!!

    • Teebee says:

I agree, so far not one bad look, in my opinion! I love the candid photos at their homes, like prom pictures. Most attendees get ready for these shows at home, so it’s nice to see them in their natural setting! And we get glimpses of their domiciles!😉

  9. August Rain says:

    America looks gooooooorge.

    • BothSidesNow says:

She does!! Love her dress and her jewelry as well!! America looks like she is loving her dress and it shows!!

Uzo looks incredible as well and her dress looks fabulous on her!! I had read she had gotten married and I am so happy for her!!!

Tracee looks fabulous!!! She really never misses the spot on any carpet show!! She always looks more incredible and owns her looks! I think she is stunning!!

  10. Chaine says:

CZJ needs a total style makeover. The look is so dated—that leg slit is just a meme people laugh at now—and the color in particular looks like something for a much older woman. She needs a softer lip color and hair color, too IMO. Colors that will downplay all of her fillers/work rather than emphasize them.

  11. jo73c says:

All the ladies look great. Love this colour on Uzo, this may be my favourite look on her ever.

  12. Merricat says:

Tracee Ellis Ross makes me so happy.

  13. lucy2 says:

I love every single one of these. Yes Catherine has worn similar things before, but it’s stunning! America and Uzo looks gorgeous in their strong colors. I look horrid in that bright pink, but would wear America’s or Catherine’s in a heartbeat.
I could never pull off Tracee’s look, but it is perfection on her. I love the fabric, but it’s like 95% attitude and style, and only she could make that work.

  14. K says:

America is so beautiful in that color, and I could say the same for Uzo.

  15. AmyB says:

Of course I am not an A-list celebrity, but I can certainly understand what it is like to feel pressure, as a woman growing older in this society, to stay youthful & attractive. That being said, it just makes me soooo sad, when I see simply gorgeous women, like CZJ do cosmetic work to their face, and they end up not even resembling themselves anymore. Just tragic. They most likely do it, in an attempt to remain “youthful,” yet that is never the end result. Other examples – Courtney Cox, Meg Ryan, Melanie Griffith. So many others. Just lovely gorgeous women who ended up radically changing their face, in an effort to stay looking youthful, rather than just trying to embrace growing older gracefully. It does make me sad 🙁

    • iconoclast59 says:

As someone commented in the other thread, look at Emmy winner Jean Smart. She looks terrific, age-appropriate, and she’s not pumped full of fillers and Botox!

  16. sally says:

Uzo is a queen, a wonderful very versatile actress and I’ve adored her style for years. I LOVE the white in her hair! Paired with that youthful colour it’s even better, that’s aging with grace! Also that husband is foine, you go, girl!

  17. India says:

Poor CZJ. She used to be so beautiful. Now she is painful to look at. I was horrified as to what she has done to herself. I hope she can get her money back.

    • BothSidesNow says:

CZJ needs to leave her face alone. She looks awful here as she has chipmunk cheeks with so much filler!! Plus, if you didn’t know that she was attending with her husband, you would think she arrived with her grandfather. CZJ just needs to accept her age and make peace with it, which apparently she refuses to do.

  18. jferber says:

Agree with India and BothSidesNow. The face work is so, so not good. Loved everyone else’s looks, though.

  19. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I’m not the biggest fan of the color of TER’s dress (I wish it were closer to ruby than vermillion/scarlet) , but my god, the silhouette and drape are perfection… MWAH! Chef’s kiss!!
    Just to die for.

  20. Dierski says:

My gawd, these are gorgeous!! I’ve gone through most of the fashion posts already, and these might be my favorites of the night! Uzo and America especially, omg! 😍
