The Tony Awards were held last night, as part of a move to show that “Broadway is back” after a lengthy pandemic shutdown. This was the first Tony Awards ceremony since 2019, as the 2020 Tonys had been cancelled. So the nominees/winners this year were for the 2019/20 Broadway season. Which is why Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton were there, because they did Betrayal on Broadway in 2019. Hiddleston was up for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. He lost to Andrew Burnap in The Inheritance after most of the Tony predictors said Hiddles would win.
The biggest winner of the Tonys was Moulin Rouge, which won ten awards including Best Musical and best direction. Also notable: Slave Play was shut out after being nominated for twelve awards. Slave Play was one of the most controversial plays of its Broadway season and I’ve heard that a lot of people just completely hated it. Considering the playwright Jeremy O. Harris thinks Lena Dunham is a “good sis” and a good writer, I think we can have a chuckle about Slave Play getting shut out. You can see the full list of Tony winners here.
Anyway, these are photos of Tom and Zawe Ashton looking lovely together. While the hype is that “this is their first red carpet as a couple,” they did many events together in 2019, including red carpets. And just like those 2019 events, they had their Betrayal costars with them too. Tom and Zawe are definitely together, but these pics are sort of overhyped! That’s all I’m saying. Still, it’s nice to see them. They’re both very attractive.

Same. I haven’t followed his career and private life too closely, I know more than I’d want through osmosis and posts being swept on my tumblr dash back in the day though and I think they seem lovely. I recently learned that he dated Sian Clifford of Fleabag fame for a while and Zawe to me seems a similar type; intelligent, talented, very beautiful and slim English theatre actress. It all makes sense.
The veranda is open for Morning After Tonys relaxation. We have the musical Moulin Rouge’s Broadway soundtrack playing on a loop so be prepared to can-can.
ETA I don’t particularly like Zawe’s dress but I do like that she seems to be opting for more comfortable looking red-carpet styles. The flowing thing she wore at the BAFTAS last spring was spectacular. And Tom’s navy tux is gorgeously fitted.

There were some cute shots of them sitting next to each other and holding hands and also bopping along to some music. They seem well-suited to each other and happy. I’m glad that they have each other. She looked so pretty (and so did he!) Sorry he didn’t win, but them’s the breaks I guess. An honor to be nominated as they say!
That was considered to be the toughest category at the Tonys last night with fierce competition. Jake Gyllenhaal, Blair Underwood, and Tom Sturridge were also nominated. Unlike Best Actor in a Musical where Aaron Tveidt was the only person nominated.
