Tom Holland says Zendaya helped him navigate fame, calls Spider-Man costars family

Now that Tom Holland and Zendaya’s relationship is out of the proverbial bag, they have been absolutely frigging adorable on the press tour for Spider-Man: Now Way Home. What’s lovely about the way they’ve handled themselves is that they haven’t changed their demeanor and yet, everything has changed. Like, we could tell before, but now that we know, it’s a thousand times hotter. They speak of each other with the same respect they always have. It’s reassuring to know that the foundation of their relationship is built on mutual respect and affection. One of the many ways that Zendaya has bettered Tom’s life is by helping him navigate the rush of fame that came with Spider-Man. He told reporters on the red carpet that her greatest gift to him has been companionship. Aw!

Zendaya is a “beautiful” and “wise owl,” according to Tom Holland.

The actor gushed over his co-star and girlfriend while explaining how she helped him cope with instant fame during a London event for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” on Sunday.

“The biggest way is just companionship, you know, like two friends coming together, experiencing this world, going through the same problems at the same times, having a shoulder to cry on, has been a huge thing for the pair of us,” Holland told the Associated Press on the red carpet.

“We really are a family and, you know, becoming famous at the age of 19, but, this is a different kind of fame,” he continued. “There’s not a corner of the world that ‘Spider-Man’ hasn’t touched. It’s a lot to take in, so it’s really nice for me to have a family to share that with.”

To qualify that opening sentence, the reporter fed Tom the line that Zendaya was very wise and Tom joking added the “like an owl” part. Zendaya heard it later and ran with it, it was all very cute. I get what Tom is saying about navigating this unique journey together and having people who know exactly what you are going through. I’m sure it’s an individual experience for every set of actors, even if the story of meteoric fame or whatever sounds similar. I think that’s why Tom and Zendaya seem so grounded in their relationship now. They probably fell for each other, meandered to other paths but when they reconnected, they realized how much deeper their story was. I think even if they split, they will never lose their affection for each other, at least as friends. And I like that Tom included Jacob Batalon in this discussion. I know we are all so focused on Tom and Zendaya, but Jacob is such a part of them as well. I love their bond.

Speaking of Jacob… purely on a superficial note: I know we keep talking about how amaze-balls Zendaya been looking. But can we please take a minute to acknowledge how incredible Jacob looked at the premiere with his shawl collar, plaid tux jacket and black turtleneck? I love the super fitted shirt with the relaxed fit jacket. The pants have too much of a break for me, but I’ll allow it because I think he’s going for a Boss look and he’s really nailed it.
