Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Twitter account was finally permanently suspended

Swearing-in Ceremony for members of 117th Congress

This was the feel-good story of the weekend, only there is a catch. Most Americans know of Marjorie Taylor Greene, the absolutely bonkers Donald Trump-supporter congresswoman. She’s a white nationalist, she’s a Covid-denier, she spreads right-wing propaganda online and she’s one of the Republicans who (I believe) gave Capitol tours to insurrectionists before January 6th. She’s a nutjob and she was constantly on Twitter, spreading misinformation and lies. Well, big surprise, she was finally suspended from Twitter. But just her personal account – she still has her official Congress account.

Twitter on Sunday permanently suspended the personal account of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican of Georgia, after the company said she had violated its Covid-19 misinformation policies.

Twitter suspended Ms. Greene’s account after she tweeted on Saturday, falsely, about “extremely high amounts of Covid vaccine deaths.” She included a misleading chart that pulled information from a government database of unverified raw data called the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS, a decades-old system that relies on self-reported cases from patients and health care providers.

Twitter said that Ms. Greene had a fifth “strike,” which meant that her account will not be restored. The company had issued her a fourth strike in August after she falsely posted that the vaccines were “failing.” Ms. Greene was given a third strike less than a month before that when she had tweeted that Covid-19 was not dangerous and that vaccines should not be mandated.

Ms. Greene’s official Congressional account, @RepMTG, remains active because tweets from that account did not violate the service’s rules.

“We’ve been clear that, per our strike system for this policy, we will permanently suspend accounts for repeated violations of the policy,” Katie Rosborough, a Twitter spokeswoman, said in a statement. The company allows accounts to submit an appeal and will potentially reverse the suspension if the violating post is proven to be factual.

On the alternative social messaging platform Telegram, Ms. Greene said that Twitter “is an enemy to America and can’t handle the truth.”

Sometimes, it’s still shocking to me that people like Greene are so hellbent on killing off their supporters. There is a huge chasm between the percentage of vaccinated Democrats and vaccinated Republicans, and Greene and her ilk continue to spread the worst kind of misinformation. Still, if Twitter says it was her “fifth” strike, then God knows what they already overlooked. I’m assuming Greene will just start posting crazy sh-t from her Representive account. Hopefully, Twitter will ban that sh-t too.

Twitter was looking for a test case to send a message and she is a junior legislator ( threw up a little in my mouth there) and an asshole so she won the New Year’s ban-lottery. Lol.

I’m shocked she still has an official Congress anything.

  3. MrsGuyIncognito says:

She wanted to get permanently banned because it allows for her to promote “look at this cancel culture!” I 100% agree that she should be off Twitter (and it’s long past due), but she will turn this into a grift and my lord, how I loathe these pernicious scumbags!

I’d be curious to know what the percentage breakdown is of Republicans who the pandemic has killed vs Democrats.

    • Lady D says:

The stats are out there. With one dose, it’s 90% Dems vaccinated, 60% Republicans. Other stats say 3-1 R over D for infection rates.

I hope it stays that way! I won’t forget how she or whoever runs her account got mine suspended for commenting on a tweet of her harassing a teenager/Parkland shooting survivor. She is a vile and poor excuse of a human being.

🙁 That’s always how it goes.

Yes, the tax payers are held to a stricter standard while some in powerful or wealthy positions remain carefree to which they are given a pass aren’t held to the same standards.

Those types of wealthy and the powerful are why there is such a horrendous displacement of wealthy in this country. If they had a moral or ethical bone in their bodies, they would stand up and speak out for those that can’t.

Too bad Greene hasn’t been deleted from her position or faced the same consequences and threats that Democrats face and have fought for the better part of 6 years. As for those who were marginalized and assaulted have suffered the most.

This lady is a complete idiot and I am glad that Twitter finally took her down!

Somebody needs to staple her mouth shut too.
