I wondered what happened to her. She had a show on a few years back that was kind of cute, but it went by the wayside quickly.

She has always been a big animal rights supporter and vegan. Good for her.

  2. audrey says:

Star looks like Rachel Zoe in that pic to me.

  3. Lindsay says:

I don’t know if it has to do with race, money I can see and very careful planning on his part. The support he is getting is because of his status in Hollywood and the number of prominent supporters he has there. But that is due to industry respect, talent, and hard work not class or race. The statement is ignorantly simplified.

The Suri link is so cute and funny.

  4. Lem says:

Re: Todd English: why do people let it get that far? Poor girls down & out but it sounds definitely for the best! If she has no money of her own (homeless/jobless/credit cut off) she had way to much tied up in the man. Fend for yourselves girls! Duh!

  5. Firestarter says:

Hey, what happened to Alicia Silverstone’s picture? I wasn’t talking about Star!

But since she brought up Polanski, I think people “love” him because they feel he is a tortured artist, not because he is white. Get racial much Star?

  6. NIKKI says:

Yeah, I don’t think her comment has merit. Why is it “African Americans” in this country like to bring race into everything?! UGH. Seriously the man is a paedophile, and he’s rich and has famous friends that kiss his arse. That’s why he’s “getting away” with it. I could give a rat’s arse what colour he is, it doesn’t change the fact that he is a paedo.

  7. vodoobetty says:

And I hate Star Jones because she’s ugly. The world is such an unfair place. I bet she is beyond terrifying naked. Her face looks like an old prune.

  8. Lem says:

Re: Star Jones: shudder to think I’d ever agree with her … she’s right. No way Spike Lee would get away with such a thing. Then again Morgan Freeman is (allegedly)
I was thinking earlier it seems as though only black hollywood has come out against Polanski (Rock,Foxx,Jones) I’m glad somebody is speaking out against him!!

So maybe it has some to do with race but more to do with perception. Spike Lee = angry ; Morgan Freeman = grandfatherly. Wrong is wrong!

  9. Firestarter says:

@VoodooBetty- When I read your post, I thought it said “old purse”, not prune. Tee Hee.

    Either way, it looks old!

  10. Annicka says:

I hardly think he’s ‘loved’. I think it’s more like people pity him because of what happened to Sharon Tate.

However, I am not one of the people who pity him or defend him. I think he’s a disgusting pedophile and he needs to rot in jail. And Star Jones can shut her mouth. Doesn’t she have more important things to worry about, like trying to find some kind of plastic surgery procedure that can fix that face?

  11. Praise St. Angie! says:

This, coming from a woman who claimed she lost the weight through “diet and exercise”?

    I’ll pass.

  12. saintdevil says:

    O.J. got away with murder.
It’s about money and fame, not race.

  13. nj says:

Star, that’s a load of crap. The guy’s friends are sticking up for him, others are just kissing ass to further their careers. Outside of Hollywood, I know no one of any race or creed who defends Roman Polanski. In any case, good for black Hollywood for speaking out against that ugly little troll.

  14. Why does race even have to enter into it at all? And yes, Star is looking a bit pudgy again; it appears her surgery isn’t very effective these days.

  15. Vermithrax says:

Star Jones can suck it – Silverstone is still cute as hell 🙂

  16. Green Is Good says:

Star Jones is ignorant. It’s about money, and Polanski’s got plenty. So do his delusional supporters.

  17. mel says:

Not sure I agree with Star Jones on that comment.

  18. BitterBetty says:

He is “loved” by his peers because in their pathetic, twisted, superficial, pseudo intellectual artsy fartsy out of touch reality, an acclaimed director with an accent reigns supreme no matter what. and if the above artsy fartsy director has a tortured past and is accused of a sickening crime – all the better. sad, but true.

So race has nothing to do with it. only stupidity.

I still can’t get over the fact NATALIE PORTMAN signed the petition against his arrest. NATALIE PORTMAN. I mean, WTF??

  19. gg says:

He’s loved?? That’s news to me. So Whoopie Goldberg defended him because he’s white, eh? 😆

  20. Firestarter says:

@BitterBetty- I was shocked at the people who signed that petition for Polanski! I mean, what do these actors/directors and producers think they are doing defending that man!? It would be nice if they came out against rapists and child molesters as strongly! What kind of message does that send out? “If you are talented and a tortured director, you can be forgiven any crime”

  21. NIKKI says:

Firestarter it just means that, we, the people should wizen up and stop looking at these celebrities and actors as super beings because obviously they aren’t. I’m not shocked at anyone who puts their name on this petition because I don’t know them or their thinking. It sucks, I know, to think someone you see on TV or in mags that claims to do this or that show how shoddy their thinking are, but, the only people you can believe in are your close ones or kins, and even then, it’s a gamble.

  22. BitterBetty says:

Firestarter, I was shocked as well, and I am still shocked @ the lack of critisism in the media and entertainment community towards celebrities signning a petition to free a convicted child rapist and escaped felon! the silence is deafening.

    ps – NATALIE PORTMAN. WTF??

  23. Firestarter says:

@NIKKI- Right you are! I never thought of it in those terms, but excellent points!

@BitterBetty- I am sure if it had happened to a child of theirs, the thinking may not be so liberal towards Polanski.

  24. original kate says:

i am unclear about some of polanski’s supporters…why are they supporting him? i haven’t heard any explanations. if he were not roman polankski, director, but joe smith, plumber, none of them would sign a petition.

  25. Firestarter says:

    Orig. Kate- EXACTLY!

  26. TwinkleToes says:

Star, what about the fact that he’s a Jew? Bitter Betty, there’s your Natalie Portman answer right there.

  27. lucy says:

What on earth is Star talking about? Come on, get a grip.

I liked Alicia’s show! It was cute and fun, and therefore cancelled way too soon.

  28. Neelyo says:

‘Why is it “African Americans” in this country like to bring race into everything?! UGH.’

Nikki, while I agree some people do play the race card a bit too much, comments like yours above certainly don’t help. And after a hundred years of opression, you can’t blame a group of people for being a bit sensitive.

On an unrelated note, the existence of R. Kelly completely negates Star’s thesis. I am appalled how many blacks stood behind him.

  29. cara says:

ahh – Star Jones I have two words, well a word and a half for you….R. Kelly! If I remember correctly, he was getting BET awards while he was avoiding and on trial for saturtory rape. So race is not the issue. It’s condoning the sexualzation of our youth which is the issue at hand.

  30. yadira says:

    and most recently…Chris Brown.

Anyhoo, some people open their flabby flaps and just squirt out crap that makes no sense in order to get attention. This being one of them. It’s not race but status

  31. GatsbyGal says:

Star Jones was a thousand times more attractive when she was fatter. Now she looks like a reanimated corpse. What the heck is wrong with her face to make it look so sunken and misshapen?

  32. lanette says:

Star didn’t say anything that is not true. Spike Lee would never ever get away with this. he wouldn’t even get away with what that pervert Woody Allen did..

and nobody should not even Polanski.

  33. lena says:

“Why is it “African Americans” in this country like to bring race into everything?!”

Nikki you have now just lumped all black people together with that comment and then you wonder why the race card is easily pulled…get a clue.

And I can’t belive that i’m going to say this…BUT, I think she has a point. part of her quote… “Something tells me Spike Lee would not have been allowed to chill in France for the last three decades had he admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old.” Polanski’s race is an important part of what puts him in a social position where he can get enough people to try and excuse him. Polanski’s race, gender and class are playing a part.

And before anyone cites R Kelly, do some RESEARCH. His victim refused to take the stand that = no case, also the tape was old so that threw some doubt into it and the people they pulled to testify against him were former employees who were fired by him, so more doubt is introduced, to much doubt so case was dismissed. And before anyone brings up MJ… well he at least showed up for his trial and was acquitted through the system, but just about all of Hollywood still turned their backs on him. Now we have Roman Polanski who ADMITTED to having sex with a MINOR and was CONVICTED but decided to flee the US and most of hollywood “elite” is coming out and backing him.

If this was Spike Lee admitting to having sex with a 13 yr old white girl, he wouldn’t have been in France for 30 yrs making movies and attending award ceremonies…Star is more right than wrong on this…it’s called white privilege and Polanski has it… people need to open up their eyes and stop pretending that his race isn’t a factor in this, Race is relevent in terms of crime and punishment. Kanye got DEATH threats and called the “N” word for taking a mic from Taylor Swift and I saw more of A list hollywood speaking out against him, but somehow Polanski gets an A list movement behind him for his release. A black man wouldn’t be getting the same reception. The mob would be out with their torches demanding his head, and France would’ve happily turned over his pedo a** within a week had he been a man of color.

If you have time check this out, it’s about white priviledge…by a white man.

  34. NIKKI says:

    @ Neelyo:

I’m black (not that this should make a bit of a difference because what I said is true – no way around it), and I still stand by my comment.

  35. lena says:

    Nikki,

I think you need to read her whole quote because that is not what she said in whole. Preferential treatment does exist, and sadly race can/does play a part, money just makes it worse. Yes the “race card” can be over used, but I just don’t believe hollywood would be lining up to sign a petition for the release of Spike Lee if he had raped a 13 yr old white girl back in the 70’s and then escaped conviction. I also don’t believe any country, regardless of natural born citizenship would’ve given shelter to his a** for 30+ yrs. Your comment isn’t true…race, Class, and Gender do play a role in who gets away with what. Statistics are the way around your comment.

    But we’ll agree to disagree.

Oh and by the way please don’t lump all Blacks together, it creates false generalizations…not all black people play the “race card” and your comment implies that, that honestly had me questioning if you were black when I read that.

  36. lena says:

    SMH @ Nikki

You just pulled that dreaded “race card” that you hate so much. Honest question(s)… Why did you feel the need to announce your race? I didn’t see anyone ask you that question directly, but yet you felt the need to put it out there… as if it would support your opinion. Did you think by announcing your ethnicity you would some how get brownie points from some of the non black readers because you are in agreement with them? Correct me if i’m wrong please, but it honestly comes off as if you saying hey i’m black and I agree with some of you, we all don’t think like her, (which if anyone thought otherwise they would be an idiot)… it just comes off hypocritical that you can pull your card when it has nothing to do with the post after blasting Star for doing the same thing, (your opinion not mine) IMO her comment has some truth it. You pulled your card and now i wanna know why.

  37. Shay says:

    @NIKKI

You’re entitled to your opinion (just like Star) but being black doesn’t make you right or give your comment merit.

Since we’re on truth how often do you as an “African American”* bring race into things?

*Feel free to clarify if you’re not from America. Would help to clarify your comment.

  38. Shay says:

    On topic….

I think a lot of people in the industry have allowed time to help them forget. Then there’s others who use the murder of his wife to say that he was depressed or had issues when he did it. Personal tragedy or being a good director doesn’t excuse what he did to her and might have done again if she hadn’t come forward. He needs to face justice.

  39. Mairead says:

@Shay, I daresay you’re right – of course all sexual abusers have “issues” and many have “tragic pasts”. The stance Hollywood has taken on this is strange, but it can’t be as basic as black/white/Jew surely?

Perhaps it’s a lot to do with the conditioning of people towards sex in exchange for advancement in the film industry on both sides of the Atlantic. The casting couch is no secret – and over-eager stage mothers “gifting” their children as sexual favours is not unheard of (one rumour exists between a certain actress, who disappeared/drowned some time ago, and one of the most famous singers/actors of all time who had some very cosa nostra dealings – just trying not to get sued here). Maybe it’s just easier to pardon him than have a light shone on the seedy aspects of their profession.

I could see some signing the petition as a short-sighted way of protesting the way he was arrested at a film festival. To which I say there are better ways of making your point. And just because Switzerland is militarily neutral, doesn’t mean that their laws are in any way liberal.

Just on Natalie Portman – you know what’s really interesting is that Luc Besson who directed Natalie as a sexualised pre-teen in “Léon” refused to sign. And one of Monica Bellucci’s most famous roles was as a rape victim in a scene that was legendarily graphic (I didn’t see it, I just couldn’t). Strange how her husband Vincent Cassel hadn’t signed the original petition, unless he has now.

  40. Merridith says:

What a disgusting racist statement. I am caucasion and I do not love that rapist!!!
Shame on star jones, African Americans need to learn reverse racism is as equally bad as racism

  41. Yae says:

An African American can say someone did something because they are white.

A Jewish person can call everyone anti semetic.

But a caucasion is not allowed to say ANYTHING about Jews or African Americas.

Political correctness in it’s famliar sinister clothing.

  42. Firestarter says:

It has nothing to do with race or religion. It has everything to do with the type of director he is and what he has endured in his miserable life, that have people so sympathetic for him. People also feel that the length of time that has passed, should be taken into consideration, along with the fact that the girl he raped, has forgiven him and has said she wants him free. If it were another WHITE director, there wold not be such a public outcry, but because it is Polanski, tortured director, husband of the Manson slain Sharon Tate, who had a horrible childhood, people are sympathetic. Simple as that.

Say it is because he is white all you want, but I will almost bet his race has zero to do with this outcry to free him.

Let’s not forget, O.J Simpson got away with murder, and it was because he was a once beloved football hero!

  43. lena says:

Firestarter, the problem is OJ didn’t admit to killing Nicole or her friend… that’s why I believe Race, Gender, and Class play a part… A man of color in this country wouldn’t be able to admit to anal raping a 13 yr old white girl, in the 70’s, and then turn around 30+ yrs after living a free life abroad and having hollywood supporting his release. It just would never happen.

  44. Shay says:

    @mairead

Living in America we have to know that sometimes race is an issue but not the only one. You have race, class, age, gender, and physical appearance as factors that people use. In this situation there are too many variables to make a blanket statement that everyone invovled in supporting Polanksi is doing so because of race. For some it could be but who’s going to take the time to ask each person and research their pass choices in life to figure out if it’s race.

As far as the casting couch that’s a very interesting aspect that may be influencing older directors. Not sure about younger ones.

  45. DW says:

I think star is one woman that will not sit and let things pass her by. yes racism is very alive and she just had the balls to point it out. Star stated 3 variables and the only one the media picked up on was the face that she said something about race.
