Johnny Depp’s biggest fear is that his kids will become actors

Second-in-line to be my dream husband, Johnny Depp, (Matt Damon is first, although it’s nearly a tie now that Depp has quit smoking) is quoted as saying that his greatest fear is that his kids will one day follow his career choice and become actors. Depp is father to John “Jack” Christopher Depp III, 7, and Lily-Rose Melody Depp, 10, with his partner of 11 years, French singer Vanessa Paradis. His family lives a quiet life on their estate in the south of France. Depp, known for being humble, gracious and friendly with fans, has little tolerance for the paparazzi and has said in the past that his children are off limits to photographers. He must worry about their privacy and safety and consider show business a real threat to their well being.

These quotes are being sourced to German magazine Joy, and there’s some speculation on fan sites that this might not be a new interview and is possibly a hodgepodge of old quotes put together. It’s Johnny Depp, though, so we’ll repeat it with a glazed-over look in our eyes. *sigh*

Hollywood hunk Johnny Depp has revealed his “greatest fear” — his kids becoming actors.

The Pirates of The Caribbean star — who has 10-year-old daughter Lily-Rose and Jack, seven, with partner Vanessa Paradis — says he doesn’t want his children to follow in his famous footsteps.

“One thing is certain — neither of them will ever get bored,” he said. “I always show them my various costumes and they love it. My children seem to take my job for granted.

“But I honestly hope that Lily-Rose and Jack don’t want to become actors — that’s my greatest fear!”

“I’m just an actor and not a hero,” added Depp, 46. “It doesn’t make any sense to me that I should leave the world anything. To me only one thing is really important – I want my children to be proud of me!”

[From Showbizspy]

Depp is quoted earlier this summer as saying that his dream is to someday be able to walk through Disneyland with his kids without being recognized, which is obviously never going to happen. He must have some real personal struggles with the downside of fame, and he doesn’t want his children to ever have to deal with that. Depp is a rare celebrity who has managed to promote his films when necessary and keep his private life under wraps. When he does share something with the public, it seems all the more meaningful. Depp once called his family his “sanctuary,” and explained that they changed his entire life. “I live for them. I finally found a reason to exist in this world. There’s nothing like it. I would give away everything if I could only keep my family. They have given me life, and they’re the greatest gift in the world.” No wonder he wants to protect them from fame, and he’s done an excellent job so far.

He has done an excellent job. For such a famous actor he keeps a low profile. We see enough of Suri and the Pitt crew. I bet he could pull off the Disneyland thing with a disguise. He’s an incredible actor.

  2. Firestarter says:

Love Johnny! He is among my favorite actors. He is talented, low key and from all accounts that I have read, very nice to everyone.

  3. Goddess711 says:

Whatever – any reason to look at Johnny is fine by me.

  4. birdie says:

Ruh roh… With kids there is always the “when I grow up I wanna be just like my daddy/mommy” thing. Sometimes it actually happens…

    love this guy….

Well, ultimately his kids are going to have to choose their own path, whether it’s acting like him, or singing like their mother, or some other vocation entirely.

It seems like he is raising them to be well grounded kids, so I’m betting we won’t see them turn out like so many other children of celebrities. I imagine whatever they do as adults they will be fine…even if they become actors.

Oh, and Johnny Depp can do no wrong. Ever.

  7. Ursula says:

Why can’t all actors be like him? He is gorgeous, look at those eyes!!!

  8. Lantana says:

He’s really doing a good job of shielding his kids. I didn’t even know he had any.

  9. ganjagirl says:

he has apparently picked up the cigarettes again. he was photographed less than a month ago smoking on the set of the new Babybird video he is directing

  10. BitterBetty says:

His fear is they will want to become celebrities. you can be an actor without being a star, it’s just that most actors want to be famous as well.

  11. Pole says:

I adore Johnny ♥ It’s so wonderful to see how he’s managed to turn his life around and has a healthy, happy familylife. Here’s to hoping he’ll be able to contuinie living like that.

  12. mockingbird says:

He is correct to be fearful.

For the most part, he is an exception to the rule as an “actor.”

    Good for him.

I’ve always kind of liked him–his work is excellent and he keeps his private life private. But the moment I decided he was really awesome was at the Oscars in 204 (I think) when Billy Bush was talking to Keisha Castle-Hughes of Whale Rider and said, “I hear you’ve always wanted to meet Johnny Depp. Come with me.” Depp was so lovely to her, and looking at how he talked to her, I said, “You can tell he has kids.”

This is also the only time I’ve ever felt anything but disgust for Billy Bush, BTW. The entire thing was really nicely done, all around, and made a young girl’s big night even more special.

  14. GatsbyGal says:

I’ve never actually seen his kids. They must be so cute. He seems like he would be a good father, very patient and loving.

  15. Sue says:

He’s fearful because he’s afraid that they will surpass him — the fear of all actors — they are extremely egocentric!

  16. For Sooth? says:

A healthy fear. A lot of actors gravitate towards acting because they have a hard time living in their own skin. Smacks of huge insecurities.
