Helen Mirren received the Life Achievement at the SAGs and her speech was a master class

Dame Helen Mirren, 76, is the same age as my mom which makes me look forward to growing older, honestly. Helen was honored with the Life Achievement Award at the SAGs last night. The montage of her work is here, it’s well worth watching and reminded me of how many movies I’ve seen her in! She wore a scoop neck long sleeve pink Prada gown with pink and white flower appliques. I really liked her big pink headband and am wondering if I need one. I don’t know if I would have the nerve to pull a giant headband off but they’re definitely in style.

Helen’s speech was masterful in that she was so entertaining and she seemed completely comfortable. You know that she memorized and rehearsed it but the fact that it flowed so easily is a testament to how she has honed her craft. She talked about the process of how she became an actor, first being inspired by the greats and then putting the work in. My favorite line was around 2:45 when she said that being an actor is not about vanity but about emotional labor and shared experiences, essentially. “Together we laugh, we weep, we worry, we change clothes, we throw up and we suffer diarrhea. Don’t you? I do.” I love her.

Presenter Salma Hayek was also in a pink gown, in am expertly gathered and draped satin Gucci. For Salma this is quite good and I like that she’s wearing polka dot mesh gloves, they’re such a throwback. Salma seemed a little tipsy in her red carpet interview but she did fine on stage.

Pink and variations of pink are my favorites. I like both looks on Salma and Helen, except, well a couple of things. For Salma, the dress and her figure carry the whole ensemble. Her hair should have been swept up. It appears “undone” and lose the gloves. Way too much with the gloves. For Helen, too much fabric. I would have liked to see that design as a sleeveless or off the shoulder. The flowers ornaments are a nice touch and they are the standouts on the dress. But lose the hat. Hat is not necessary. What’s with their stylists? Accessories aren’t needed with their ensembles.

Wow, this is the best Salma has looked on a red carpet for a long time by my memory.

Helen is magnificent of course, I prefer her in jewel tones to pastel but she looks gorgeous and she is a phenomenal speaker. Love the matching mask.

I think that’s the best Salma has looked in a long time at an event like this. I’m not in love with the gloves but overall the outfit is a win.

    Dame Helen looks fabulous.

The gloves make her look like she has a rash. The dress, however, is stunning and actually shows off her figure to it’s best advantage. The color is beautiful, too. Agree that a more finished hairstyle would have brought Salma’s look close to perfection, but she is gorgeous and well-dressed.

I love Dame Helen but I don’t like this look. Wrong color, wrong silhouette, wrong fabric, and the headband looks bad on everyone. The appliques are interesting; I’d like it better if it was a very dark pink (darker than the dark color in the appliques) and a straight skirt. And in a fabric that’s not so stiff.

I don’t like the headband at all. Helen Mirren has had some awesome hairstyles over the last few years that were all better than this. I fondly remember her asymmetric purple phase, which she totally rocked.

Did Helen borrow that headband from Kate Keen? Issa nope for me but her gown is gorgeous. Salma looks ok but the gloves should have stayed at home.

Always look forward to Helen’s red carpet looks. Fantastic and so pretty.

Helens look just doesn’t look right for her age too me. She looks pretty but more in an adorable rather than a sophisticated way. Still congrats to her.

I love everything about Helen’s look. This is the one and probably only time I like a hairband on an adult.

    I’ve said it before…

When I grow up, I wanna be like Helen Mirren.

Love Helen’s look. Salma looks better than normal – but I hate the gloves. They look too costume-y IMO.

I have always been a fan of Dame Helen. I could watch her just sit in silence and turn the pages of a phone book to be honest.
I decided I wanted to be her character from the movies “Red” when I grow up. She chewed the scenery to bits and was a riot!!!!

I love., love pink and I love Helen’s outfit. She is perfect from head to toe!
Salma dress is wrinkled and I don’t love this color on her. She looks nice is all I can say.

Helen’s dress was Dolce & Gabbana, not Prada, I think.
