Angelina Jolie visited the White House to celebrate the VAWA reauthorization

Late last week, the Violence Against Women Act was finally reauthorized by Congress. President Biden was the original writer and sponsor of the act decades ago, and of course he was working with congressional leaders to reauthorize. Angelina Jolie also went to Washington several times in the past year to personally lobby senators and representatives to reauthorize. While there were no photos of Jolie and President Biden together during her previous Washington trips, we do know that she took meetings at the Biden White House. And now look at this – Angelina was invited to be part of the Wednesday White House event for VAWA. Zahara was there too, and President Biden even referenced Zahara while he was at the podium:

Jolie also spoke to NBC News while she was there in Washington. Speaking about VAWA, she said in part: “It is personal to everyone. Everyone who cares about family, everyone who cares about children, everyone who cares about their own safety and the health of their community. I [think] this country doesn’t recognize what a serious domestic violence and child abuse problem it really has.” She has been telling us what happened to her and what happened to her children this entire time, and very few people want to listen.

How convenient. (R)s trying to clean their filthy reputations prior to midterms.

We need another Blue Tsunami. Now more than ever. Vote Blue over Q.

Vote like your life depends on it. Because it does.

Where are all those people who are like “why doesn’t she do something for her OWN country” whenever Angelina does something for another?

God forbid she just take up the cause of women and children/refugees, period, wherever they are in the world. Including her own country.

Congratulations to everyone who worked hard on reauthorizing WAVA.

  4. girl_ninja says:

She does good and important work and it’s wonderful that she lends her voice, time and money to these issues. I am so, so grateful for the WAWA reauthorization.

When Angelina was younger, I had the impression that she was a spoiled and selfish drama queen and collector of orphans. But she is revealing herself to be a very impressive woman. She is admirable for the work she does, and her steadfast commitment to her causes. And she seems to be a very good mom.

News journalists are a failure of the highest order.

When AJ immediate included Ruth Glenn in her first comment, that should have been the clue to turn the tide and include Ruth, you know, the director of the program.

Even more proud to be a Jolie stan! Wonder wtf Pitt is going to do now? Kanye number 2.

    • forgotuser12 says:

What does this have to do with Pitt?

      • AC says:

@Forgotuser12 Everytime time she’s in the news for something positive, he does something like, go to court. This has nothing to do with him, it’s his pattern

      • Ohlizbennet says:

What does it have to do with pitt?

The man she filed for divorce from after he hit their child (but not in the face)?

The man who she had to file proof of domestic abuse in court against?

I’d argue this has a lot to do with him…

@AC, I know what you’re saying. I’ve gotten into the habit of turning the channel after my local morning news-the Today show follows. The royal reporters/reporting they’ve had on are disturbing. Not interested. Saw Angelina was going to be on and I watched. She was professional and chose her words carefully. Now, yahoo has some story up about her throwing shade at Pitt. A significant bill that will hopefully have a great impact on women & children for their betterment and help their suffering against violence. And some a$$hole and yahoo want to put out a story about Angelina shading Pitt. GMAFB. He’s been doing that for years to her.

So happy this passed. Thanks to all who worked on this. Angie looks great and she has shown through her sustained commitment to her various causes that she’s not just doing what’s trendy. LOL at Biden asking for Zahara’s permission to proceed.

  9. Brittney+B says:

    She says so much.

    – when the abuser is within the family/home, response & punishment are far softer
    – her children have different skin tones
    – “it’s personal and I won’t say very much but” assault shows up differently on people with darker skin tones

This is heartbreaking. I will never be able to watch a BP film again.

That man hit his adopted kids and wasn’t found guilty because bruises weren’t detectable because of their skin color. How does he get away with everything and other men like Jonny depp don’t? Yes he may blame his addictions but im sure he’s still drinking and that’s why she’s been fighting like hell for those kids. Sick world.

  11. RC says:

So glad. She worked alongside so many others to get this reauthorized.
So glad Zahara got to witness this! An activist in the making!

And yes, I fully believe Brad did exactly what she said he did. She advocates for specific things to be added (such as technology to discover bruises on darker skin tones…) and the fact Zahara has continued to accompany her makes me wonder… she’s never swayed from what’s she’s said.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he does something to take away from this achievement.

  12. Forgotuser12 says:

@ac true that seems to be his MO

@ohlizbennet well I don’t remember her going on the record to publicly accuse him of anything dv related. I didn’t want to insinuate anything bc it’s not something I want to happen to women. But maybe you are correct since I don’t read all their court documents

  13. Sunnyville says:

Well done to Angelina,Ruth and everyone who worked on this. Angelina declined to comment further but her work to fund technology that detects bruises on darker skins speaks for itself. That and the fact that Zahara was there which makes me think it’s either her or the older boys who were attacked by pit
