Rege-Jean Page: ‘Sleep is one of the most underrated things in the world’

Rege-Jean Page has a nice interview in the current issue of Elle Magazine. He’s promoting The Gray Man (directed by the Russos) and his new endorsement deal as the face of Armani Code (the cologne). Usually, when actors are tasked with promoting their cologne endorsements, we get some bonkers interviews about how they don’t bathe and they think their asses are self-cleaning. Thankfully, Rege-Jean is not like that. He side-steps the interview traps and talks about how he’s all about sleep, hydration and good vibes. Some highlights:

Describing Armani Code: “I would describe it as multifaceted. I think one of the things that excites me about it most is that there is a very intense initial presence, kind of traditional strong notes like the bergamot and then beneath that, in concert with it, you have softer, more floral notes like the Iris that allow you to have a lot of different angles to experience the fragrance from. So as different as you are yesterday to today, to tomorrow, there are different assets, facets of this fragrance that you can discover from day to day with yourself, with your different moods, with the different versions of yourself, you know?

His self-care routine: “It’s very simple. Sleep, water, good vibes. That’s it. Those are the most… Sleep, water, good vibes, moisturize. There you go, I’ll give you that much.

Does he use SPF? “SPF somewhere in the mix. I’m not very disciplined with that, but I’m gonna have to be.

Minimalist self-care: “No but genuinely, I’m something of a minimalist with this. I think: keep things simple, but do them well. And sleep is one of the most underrated things in the world. If you’re well hydrated and you’re well rested, then the good vibes kind of take care of themselves. If you feel good, you will look good. That’s both kind of weirdly holistic, but also biologically sound, like when you feel good, when you are rested, your body can take care of itself. You know?

He can’t talk about The Gray Man: “Kind of, maybe, not really? I can put out that this guy is the head of the CIA clandestine services. So there’s a lot of sophistication, a lot of power to this character. There’s a lot of shadow and contrast to this character, it’s something that I don’t think people have seen a lot of from me specifically before, which was great fun for me to play with. But beyond that, not a huge amount. These people live in the shadows, you kind of gotta discover them in the movie.

Men really have it so easy. I mean, he’s not wrong – quality sleep and hydration go a long way towards making you feel and look good. But if a woman said “I look this way because I sleep a lot and drink a lot of water,” we would roll our eyes. Rege-Jean looks like the kind of guy who tries different products and probably has a few shelves full of skincare, lotions, colognes, etc. And there’s nothing wrong with that! He looks like a guy who takes good care of himself in every way, more than just sleeping and hydrating.

Jesus Christ. I just imagine him in bed and he’s made my day. Thanks, Rege.

He’s gorgeous but he doesn’t seem like he has that much of a personality, a bit bland. I’ll root for him tho I want him to prove people wrong, that he was right to go after other things instead of being satisfied with cameos in season 2 of Bridgerton.

The way some fan(atic)s are trying to force him back on Bridgerton for S3 is a level of deranged behavior I haven’t seen in a while. Dissing him in one breath, and then demanding that he “go back on the show that made him” is bonkers AF! I’m glad he only signed on for 1 season, and I hope he never goes back!!

So far it seems like he has pulled a bit of a David Caruso on himself. Just one more season of doing Bridgerton could have helped in really establishing his position in the industry, especially if he was offered a reduced role that would have allowed him to pursue other projects and keep building his profile. It just seems like it might have been a tactical mistake career-wise. But I guess we’ll see what happens down the road.

      • Becks1 says:

I thought that one of his concerns was COVID. I think there were strict “bubble” requirements for the cast and it wouldn’t have allowed him to pursue other projects at the same time. so he would had to play a very supporting role in the series (in the book I only recall the Duke of Hastings in one scene, maybe they could have had him have a heart to heart with Anthony or something but it wasn’t necessary IMO) while basically pausing any other projects he wanted to do with all that momentum in his favor.

I think if it wasn’t due to the pandemic, he probably would have done the second season, bc he could have filmed his scenes relatively quickly and then gone back to his other projects.

@ Becks1, that makes perfect sense. Why pass on future productions when your character has basically finished his role? The coronavirus threw a wrench in everyone’s lives, including actors. They have to make the best decisions at the time that are the best for them.

I can see him in any type of genre. He has immense talent and isn’t too bad on the eyes either 😉

  3. jferber says:

Woke, I disagree strongly. The personality is all there, but it’s subtle and he’d be a chameleon to fit into any role. When the star power and charisma are there . . .

  4. Sara says:

I refuse to watch him in anything other than Bridgerton. That show made him and he couldn’t get away fast enough, even recently saying he doesn’t care if they recast him. Who doesn’t care about working with Shonda?? And he’s not that cute outside of period costumes.

    • C says:

      He’s gorgeous, period!

      • BothSidesNow says:

        Yes, he is gorgeous!!

@ Sara, just because he starred in a series that “made him” doesn’t determine what his professional choices are. You are judge mental as well as ugly. He doesn’t owe anyone his career. Rene-Jean made his career, not Shonda, not anyone.

There is enough hate in the world, be a part of the change in that.

    • Yup, Me says:

You sound unhinged. He doesn’t belong to you (or to Bridgerton, for that matter).

I loved him as the Duke in bridgerton, but what made me a super fan was his performance on SNL. He was so FUNNY. his comedic timing was really good and that’s hard for a lot of the hosts to nail. Plus, he can sing. That’s where I went from thinking “oh he’s a gorgeous regency duke” to “damn he’s going to be a huge star.”

Sleep and hydration are really important, but isn’t he also pretty young? That gives you a huge leg up. (I just looked, it seems hes 34, so not super young I guess.)

  6. Mgmoviegirl says:

It might be stereotyping but I’m not shocked he’s bad about SPF. My husband has the same skin tone and so do a majority of my in-laws are terrible about applying sunscreen. When we done beach trips together (or long periods outside) , I’m always reapplying my sunscreen every 2 hrs despite the comments and looks I get from them. I offer to share mine with everybody but I usually get the response “we don’t need it” including from the others who are white. I purposely remind them that Bob Marley pass from skin cancer. Plus I get a chuckle whenever they get sunburnt.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Mgmoviegirl, my family is the same. My husband and daughter refuse to wear sunscreen. My husband just returned from a biking trip in Colorado and took spray sunscreen! Spray!!! Spray sunscreen is useless. Whenever we travel, I am packing planet friendly SPF 70 as it’s eco friendly and doesn’t harm the coral system. My daughter has had TWO cancerous spots removed from her body for not wearing sunscreen, yet she gives me shit about wearing it everyday no matter the weather.

All of you start wearing sunscreen early and every day!! I started in the late 20’s and have very little pigmentation, and I am hitting 60 this year.

  7. The Recluse says:

He’s right: SLEEP IS SO UNDERRATED. Man, a good night’s sleep is just a wonderful thing.

  8. Dani says:

Ah, yes… sleep. Heard of it, but not sure how it works. Maybe he could come over and show me?

  9. jferber says:

    Dani, me first, girl.
