Kevin McKidd is a Scottish actor best known in the US for playing Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy for the past 14 years. He’s also directed 35 episodes of the show since 2011. He is also really hot. Anyway, Kevin was married a Scottish woman named Jane Parker in 1999 and has two children who are now in their early 20s. When he and Jane divorced in 2017, Kevin had to pay upwards of $80,000/month in child and spousal support. Around the time of his divorce, Kevin met and later married an American chef in her late 20s named Arielle Goldrath and they have two children under 5. Now Kevin and Arielle are “end[ing] the marriage portion of [their] relationship.”

Actor Kevin McKidd has confirmed the end of his four-year marriage to his wife, Arielle Goldrath.

The Grey’s Anatomy star took to Instagram to announce the ending of the couple’s relationship.

He began his post: “I don’t often share my personal life on social media, but today there is something I do want to share with you. A few months ago, Arielle and I decided to end the marriage portion of our relationship.

“We reached this conclusion after much soul searching and discussion. We know it’s what is right for both of us.”

Kevin also praised Arielle’s nature as a wife and mother: “Arielle is an incredible mother to Aiden and Nava. She’s one of the wisest, most intelligent and loving people I’ve ever known. We continue to have the highest love and respect for each other.

“We have been able to redefine our lives and love for each other in a beautiful way. It’s not been easy and has taken significant work and self-examination.

“It has all been worth it to get to where we are now: a deep and honest relationship as parents and real friends with an amazing shared history, beautiful children and family.”

He finished by saying, “Please wish us luck and good fortune going forward, as we also wish for you all. It feels good to share this part of my life and let you all know that even with challenges, it is possible to reach happy conclusions if we show up for each other and stay open.

“Arielle and I will always be there for one another. I hope everyone could be this blessed: to raise their kids with one of your very best friends.”

Although Kevin’s post was emotional, it is clear that the relationship has ended amicably and that the pair are still on good terms.

McKidd has starred in Grey’s Anatomy since 2008 and directed several episodes of the show – he also reportedly signed a three-year contract with ABC that will keep him on the medical drama for the foreseeable future.

Well, their phrase is definitely better than the pretentious, jargon-y, “conscious uncoupling.” I’m not surprised this happened, but I am surprised it didn’t last a little longer. I thought they were this well-matched outdoorsy, active couple who liked hiking and camping and all-terrain vehicles. It sounds like they’re on good terms and they will co-parent their two young children amicably. The vibe I’m getting is the relationship just ran its course. It did seem like a bit of a whirlwind. The timeline with his first marriage was tight, but it actually doesn’t seem like there was overlap — Jane filed for divorce in June 2016, Kevin met Arielle that August, and they were married with a baby by 2018.

As a longtime Grey’s fan, I followed this story at the time and remember thinking three things: (1) this seems like a typical mid-life crisis, divorce, and date a younger woman scenario; and (2) my god that’s huge monthly outlay, he’s going to be on Grey’s Anatomy as long as they’ll have him. Everyone I know who watches Grey’s agrees that Kevin is hot/seems nice and the Owen character is awful, but he’ll never get the McDreamy treatment because he has all those expenses. Expensive first divorce, two college-age kids, two little kids, and now second divorce. That’s gotta be pricey. He’ll really be with Grey’s as long as he can. Maybe Kevin can show his former costar a thing or two about paying child/spousal support.

I mostly know him from “Rome”.
    Does an excellent job there.

    “I’m a son of Hades!!!”

    • Driver8 says:

I was about to make the same comment! I’ve never seen Grey’s Anatomy, but I LOVED him in Rome. So wish that show could have had more seasons.

      • AppleCart says:

That was such a dark time for HBO it was under poor managment and they canceled some great shows like Rome and Carnival. Rome was supposed to go for about 3 more seasons but HBO thought it was too expensive.

    • Emmlo says:

      THIRTEEN

      • AG says:

Ha, you made me laugh! THIRTEEN! is what I immediately think of as well, when I think of Rome!

    • Lady Keller says:

He was hot in Rome, but has anyone seen his Count Vronsky? I’m sure I would leave my husband for him too.

    • SarahCS says:

Ooh thanks for reminding me about Rome. My boyfriend got it for me on DVD a few years back not knowing anything about it but knowing I love ancient Rome. Fine by me.

    • The Recluse says:

I know him from Rome, a favorite show. Also, if you watch Brave, you’ll hear him doing two voices, a father and son, from Glasgow.

TIL Grey’s Anatomy is still airing. I guess it’s not too surprising to have made the transition to quietly long-running medical drama, given shows like ER were a thing. Medical and police procedurals can go for decades.

Kevin McKidd will always be Lucius Vorenus to me.

  3. BaronSamedi says:

    Thirteen!!

  4. AmyB says:

I never knew much about Kevin McKidd’s personal life, but I agree he is hot! I’ve seen him in interviews and it’s always amazing to hear his real accent, as he doesn’t use it when he plays Owen Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy. Yeah, I’m pretty much over Owen’s character at this point too, but I do think Kevin is a great actor. He and Sandra Oh had wonderful chemistry when she on playing Christina Yang.

  5. Teal says:

    Good luck.

  6. Enny says:

The weird thing is that it’s actually up in the air whether he’s coming back next season, since the writers in their infinite wisdom have now turned him and Teddy into fugitives from justice. I can see him wanting to stay for the cash – but if he hasn’t already been given his walking papers, there’s going to have to be some magic theatrics from the writers to bring him back without it being convoluted and lame. I just came here to say that – oh, and that I hope he is gone for good, because Owen Hunt is just the worst.

    • AmyB says:

YES – Owen is the worst, and we can add Teddy to that list as well. Ugh, can’t stand them. Tragic what the writers have done to both characters. They are so horrible and unlikable now.

  7. tuille says:

My first awareness of Kevin was “Rome” but I don’t find him attractive & won’t miss seeing him if he disappears from Grey’s. If his income drops, he can petition to get the child support lowered. 80k x 12 = 960k= insane.
Hope he saves enough to get snipped.

  8. Lila says:

I’m still salty we never got a second season of Journeyman. He was awesome in that.

    • Notsoanonymous says:

That show was SO good and I’m salty also. Can’t believe it didn’t get more love!

  9. Robin says:

No one seems to know him from Trainspotting, eh?
