Ryan Gosling in talks to star in an Oceans 11 ‘60s prequel with Margot Robbie

They’re rebooting Ocean’s 11? Again? Mm’Kay. So Apparently Hollywood is going to call up the Ocean’s 11 franchise one more time, but this time they are going to set it in Europe. Oh my gosh – how radical! And there is a discussion for it to star Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, fresh off their turn as Ken and Barbie. Other than Jay Roach directing and the time period – the 1960s – we don’t know anything else about the film, which I guess is good because it hasn’t been signed off on yet.

Ryan Gosling is in talks to star opposite Margot Robbie in the new Ocean’s Eleven film, which four-time Emmy winner Jay Roach (Bombshell) will direct for Warner Bros., Deadline can confirm. The project follows Gosling and Robbie’s recent work together on Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film for the studio, which has the former playing Ken.

While we hear that the Ocean’s reboot penned by Carrie Solomon will be set in Europe in the 1960s, further details as to its plot have kept under wraps. The project has not yet been greenlighted—remaining in “active development,” as first reported in May—though we hear Warner Bros. is looking at launching production next spring.

Obviously, it’s hard to get too excited about casting because I have no idea what the part calls for. Given what little information is given, Ryan would fit the bill. I could see him on an Ocean’s 11 movie poster so yeah, great. Margot Robbie is generally pretty good, and she works in several timelines so in principle, I wouldn’t object to her. But I don’t get excited about people being continuously paired up together. If I really liked a pairing on screen and they get put together again, I tend to either see them as themselves or as the parts they played before. So I’m not overly excited about Barbie and Ken Part Deux but maybe it will be fantastic, who knows? I expect to like the Barbie Movie so much that I can just watch that again if this one doesn’t do it for me.

I also can’t get too excited about an Ocean’s 11 reboot. I like the original and I really enjoyed the first few offerings from Steven Soderbergh. I thought Ocean’s Eight was okay. I felt it deserved better, certainly better editing, but it was alright. But my fire for the franchise is out. Unless… they break the mold. Instead of an all-male or all-female version, make Ryan the mastermind and Margot his right-hand person. Or better, reverse that casting and have a diverse crew of both sexes and multiple nationalities. I wish they could do a more interesting crime, too, but they are limited by the 1960s so it will likely be the regular big safe heist thing. Royal jewels, would be my guess with the European setting. And since this casting is kicking off with two blondes who seem to be the current go-to, I don’t think I’ll get my hopes up for shaking up the formula either.

Unless this is a Barbie Movie sequel and Barbie and Ken become international jewel thieves with Skipper, Midge, Christie, Teresa, Summer, Kira, Derek, PJ and Kevin as their team.

The whole idea of a Barbie movie is so dumb to me. I am holding out some hope only because I feel like Great could make it bearable…but hard pass on another movie with these two right behind it. I liked the one with Rihanna but that was it. I agree on one more diverse..including location, languages, cultures, abilities, race and gender…two blondes hacking a safe in the 60s…haven’t we seen that a million times?

My psychic told me he and Margot is having an affair. And if they haven’t had one, they will.
And I’m JUST here patiently waiting for that to come out. LOL

Oh god no, can they stop casting this basic white man in everything? I never got the appeal. And Margot, I love ya, but ain’t you tired honey?
