After more than two full years of a pandemic creating havoc to film festivals, I have to say… film festivals are back! The Venice Film Festival officially began on Wednesday, and there seemed to be a real energy with all of the celebrities arriving in Venice this week. People are excited! The film festival season has begun! Big fashion moments are happening! So let’s get to it – these are photos from the big first-night premiere of White Noise on Wednesday. Jodie Turner-Smith wore this goddess-y Gucci gown which is a showstopper and I love the electric green gloves too. If I needed to change anything, it would be that unnecessary salmon-colored ruffle at the bottom of the dress. Ugh. The rest of it is great though.
Bonus Jodie Turner Smith: she wore pink Gucci lingerie for the photocall. This is a lot of look, as Tim Gunn would say. I feel like she should have chosen the gloves or the boots but not both..
Julianne Moore wore Valentino. I love this? She’s president of the Venice jury too, so we’ll be seeing a lot of her over the next week. The cape is gorgeous and she looks so pretty.
Greta Gerwig – I don’t have an ID on this but I love it. I would wear this.
Hillary Clinton in flats and a muumuu! I LOVE THIS.
Tessa Thompson in Armani Privé. I actually like the funky, structured top part. That’s cool. I feel like the slim black skirt is a cop-out though? I wish the structured grey-silver piece was the whole look, just make it a tad longer.
Grace Elizabeth in Alberta Ferretti. Classic, chic, beautiful.
Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse – she’s in Armani Prive. I love the cut of this. Too many dresses have big, stupid shoulders or puffy sleeves. This looks so sleek and well-tailored.

I think without that salmon ruffle, Jodie Turner-Smith would look amazing. the green gloves are such a great touch, but the salmon ruffle is not good IMO.
I think Tessa Thompson’s look would work better if it was over slim black pants, or if the top was the whole dress. the skirt does not work.

I thought the same thing about Tessa: an extremely slim cut, exquisitely tailored cigarette pant would have been perfect if they didn’t want to go full silver on the dress.
The Tessa dress is gorgeous but reads like a Project Runway couture challenge where they run out of time.
I agree that if they hadn’t just finished the top to be a little longer that cigarette tuxedo pants would have been the way to go (they even could have been sequined but they wouldn’t have had to be) but it’s such a shame because that dress could have been a Statement.
Tessa still looks gorgeous of course, as she always does.
Jodie looks amazing. Her skin glows in both looks. I wish the gloves and boots matched if she was going to wear them both, but given all the colors happening on her earrings, I’m guessing this was a deliberate look that I’m missing the nuanced power of.
As an aside – are we about to have an auburn hair trend this autumn?

If I had to change one detail of Jodie’s outfit, I’d keep the crazy gloves and the salmon ruffle in exchange for fiddling with those awful sleeves. She looks gorgeous, I always adore her jewels.

Yeah, I agree. The overall shape of the dress is great, but the sleeves are a touch too wide, and kind of make the dress wear her more than she wears the dress. Otherwise, she’s gorgeous as always.

YES! Usually, you see a great red carpet look and the end result is very much the sum of many parts, their hair, makeup, jewels, and dress, all combine to form this pretty end result. In her case, you could crop out everything except for her face and it would still be shockingly gorgeous on it’s own. She just has such a stunning face.
With the exception of Grace and Hilary, they all look like they rummaged thru some second hand store that was going out of business and fought over the last pieces of clothing. those outfits are awful, just plain awful.
I agree, @gabbygirl. For a minute there I wondered if we were all looking at the same pictures. Jodie Turner-Smith is stunning but her outfits are awful. The pastel gloves make her look like she’s about to wash the dishes. And I’m so sick of sheer dresses and visible underwear. The trend just won’t die.
I was just about to say I must not know anything about fashion because while JTS herself is flawless, I think those outfits are terrible.
