Gisele Bundchen bought a $1.25 million Miami beach cottage back in February

Back in September, we became aware of the fact that Gisele Bundchen was no longer living in Tampa with her husband. She had been seen out and about in Miami, and the word on the street was that she had moved into a separate home, a rental, over the summer. It was, at the time, just one more piece of evidence that Tom and Gisele are over. Well, media outlets did some digging and it turns out that Gisele actually purchased this little beachy Miami cottage back in February. You know, just weeks after Tom Brady made his official retirement statement but just weeks before he un-retired. Could it be that Tom retired, immediately regretted it, told Gisele he was un-retiring and she was like “you know what, I’m going to buy a place in Miami.”

It seems like a star marriage took an ugly turn months before the public caught wind of it. Two weeks before Tom Brady decided to make his NFL comeback, Gisele Bündchen quietly purchased a modest three-bedroom, three-bathroom home near Miami Beach, The Post has learned. A far cry from the luxury she’s used to, the suburban spread spans only 1,540 square feet. Records show she closed on the home on Feb. 28 for $1.25 million via an LLC.

And over the summer, Bündchen submitted documents to remodel the property, records obtained by The Post show. Pegged as an Art Deco-style cottage, the home features an open kitchen with a marble waterfall island and breakfast bar that leads to the main living area. Located in Surfside, the home is blocks from the beach.

This is likely a temporary home until the divorce is settled. The Post has reached out for comment from Bündchen’s reps and clarification on this home’s intended use.

The now-former couple’s shared property includes their $27 million Miami beach megamansion they had designed together. The Post recently reported that construction on that home has been halted. The never-before-seen floor plan showed an intricate house design. But there’s no telling what will become of that home in the exclusive Indian Creek Country Club community dubbed “Billionaire Bunker.”

[From The NY Post]

The Post and the Daily Mail have photos of the interior and exterior of this place and I think it’s incredibly cute! During their marriage, Gisele co-owned a series of mansions in LA, Boston, Tampa and Miami. I think they had a huge apartment in NYC too. There’s something refreshing about Gisele decluttering her old life – I imagine this was a particular dream for her, to just have a cute little cottage by the beach, a small, manageable place she could use as her base in Florida. I like Single Gisele’s vibe, honestly. Whomst among us has not dreamed of walking away from our old lives and buying an adorable beach cottage? She probably wants to expose her kids to a simpler way of living too, like the way she was raised in Brazil.

That looks really cute. $811 per square foot …. phew ….

ETA: the article says 1,890 sq ft, but that’s still $661 per sq ft if true.

Someone said the other day that their anniversary is February 26th (i love the research). We speculated they had a bad anniversary, but I forgot about how it takes more than a few days too close, even if you’re buying with actual cash.

Either way, good on her. I’d love a little cottage like that, her taste in homes is better than her taste in men.

That was me :). I didn’t think about the time it takes to close the deal… on February 13, TB had set an alarm for the Superbowl and was regretting not playing on social media. Maybe their Valentine’s Day was less lovely than expected and after their wedding anniversary on February 28, GB had everything ready for a jump off pad.
I still believe, due to the dates, that she slow-walked leaving him and gave him every chance in the world to make things right. She only started revamping the day after mini camp in June and they were eating ice cream in Italy at the end of June. Good for GB and again, I’m impressed with how she handled the whole situation!

good for her. she’s worth more than him and she can do what she wants now.
but that cottage is 1.25 mil? dang miami real estate is insane.

    • Coco says:

Right I’m more shocked that anyone would spend $1.25 million on that little cottage .

Side note nothing like the DF showing the house number on social media.

    • molly says:

The amount of smug joy I feel every time I get to correct someone that SHE is worth more than him, wow.

“She’s going to get a ton of money in that divorce…”
“Aaaaactually, no. Gisele has been one of the world’s highest paid models for nearly 25 years, including to this day. Her net worth is reportedly much higher than his.”

  4. Lolo86lf says:

$1.25 million dollars is nothing for her. Maybe she bought a modest home because she wasn’t sure she was going to stay long in Miami. Perhaps she will purchase a much grander home in the near future. She can afford it.

I am wondering if they are doing the kind of Co-parenting where the kids stay in the family house and the parents rotate living there. I could see Gisele wanting this kind of stability for the kids and in this case she would only need a place for herself for every other week

  5. ME says:

I wonder what they are going to do with the Mega Mansion they are building in Miami? I wonder once it’s complete if they’ll just sell it?

Also, did she move into that cottage on the beach or is it an investment property for her?

  6. julia says:

I’d prefer that over a monstrosity-mansion any day.

  7. Tina Loman says:

She’ll be buying a much larger house in the future. I don’t if the kids will spend much time there.

  8. PJ says:

Doesn’t it make more sense that she bought this for someone else, a family member who wants to be close? I don’t think Gisele would ever live in a place of that size at this point.

    • MY3CENTS says:

Yeah seems off to me as well. She would want security and a place for staff maybe for her parents /family?

  9. L says:

Maybe she bought this so she could have ‘private meetings’??

  10. lucy2 says:

Cute place but the price! Wow.
My guess is it’s her bachelorette pad – I’d imagine the kids are staying based in Tampa for school, and she will go stay there when it’s her custody time. This is a little place just for her when the kids are with Tom.

  11. Liz in A says:

With her money, let alone their money, this might have made sense just for a place to live while removations on the other one kept taking place, or for friends visiting, etc. So if they had stayed together it still could have been put to use, or easily offloaded. But, if he didn’t do the things he had said he was going to do, it would be her retreat, where papers could be mailed, etc. Win – Win whether the marriage survived or not. And remember, HE has said she was struggling and he wasn’t pulling his weight years before too.

  12. Luna17 says:

Love the house and Giselle’s new single vibes. Rich people are so weird- that house looks pretty perfect but she needs to remodel??? So weird and wasteful IMO but it’s her money.

  13. Aud says:

A couple of articles said that the issue wasn’t his return to football.

Like maybe that was part of it, but I’m starting to believe there were more issues and we just don’t know about them.

  14. jferber says:

I so hope Jack will still be with his half-brother and half-sister in the homes of both Tom and Gisele. I know Bridget would be willing to facilitate that. He’ll be 18 in 3 years, an adult, and hopefully he’ll keep up with and close to everyone. Obviously, the two women will be doing the heavy lifting.

  15. Julia K says:

No part of me believes she or the children intend to live in this house. How about to ensure that Jack will still be included in outings with his half siblings than to have a place for Jack and Bridget for when Jack visits? Sort of a guest house.

  16. jferber says:

Julia K, I like your idea of a guest house for Jack, Bridget and her husband when Jack visits Gisele and the kids or Tom and the kids. They get their privacy and Jack stays included in their lives. Great idea.
