Was Tom Brady & Gisele’s divorce actually about the FTX crypto debacle?

For the past week, many have watched as FTX has gone belly-up. FXT was a cryptocurrency company, one which paid celebrities a lot of money to hype the f–k out of crypto. Of course, the crypto “market” has been imploding for months and a lot of people have lost a lot of very real money. Some of the people who lost a lot of money are now suing the celebrities who promoted FTX. Celebrities like Tom Brady, Naomi Osaka, Steph Curry, Gisele Bundchen, David Ortiz and more.

On Independence Day, Tom Brady tweeted an advertisement he starred in for cryptocurrency exchange FTX. In the ad, he’s dressed in board shorts and a T-shirt and uses a flamethrower to melt a block of ice and release some cartoon bitcoin.

“You don’t need a flamethrower to buy, sell, and trade bitcoin and crypto safely. You just need FTX,” he says in the ad. It was part of a major marketing campaign led by FTX, which paid household names to promote digital currencies to at-home investors. But it turns out that things weren’t so safe. The Bahamas-based company went into bankruptcy late last week, and customers are unable to retrieve their funds.

And now there’s a class-action lawsuit underway. The suit, filed in the Southern District of Florida yesterday, names a series of high-profile people for their roles in promoting FTX, including Brady, his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, Steph Curry, Shaquille O’Neal, Naomi Osaka, Larry David, David Ortiz, and Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary.

The filing also names FTX’s founder and former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, as a defendant. The onetime golden child of the crypto sector oversaw the company until it declared bankruptcy. It has since been reported that FTX was moving customers’ cash into an investment fund that it owned.

[From Buzzfeed]

Wow, that thing everyone said was a giant scam turned out to be a giant scam, who would have thought? Well, honestly, I’m shocked that these celebrities don’t have better advisors. Not just better financial and business advisors, but better PR people – anyone with any f–king PR sense knew that the crypto sh-t was going to blow up in a lot of people’s faces and that it would be a catastrophe from a branding standpoint. And where were these celebrities’ lawyers too?? Jesus.

Speaking of, with the lawsuit and the absolute debacle of FTX’s bankruptcy, some people are speculating that THIS was the reason why Gisele and Tom Brady actually divorced. As in, they were protecting their assets, or more like Gisele was protecting her assets. This TikTok, below, is going viral – I love the gossip research!! That being said, I don’t think Tom and Gisele’s divorce was solely about FTX, but I buy that it was a factor. Perhaps a major factor.

First off I cannot believe anyone fell for crypto. Second if you are so rich and you just wanted MORE And you fell for this…well. And regular people are facing huge hurdles with housing food and gas. This guy needs extradited and jailed along with his cohorts.

    • olliesmom says:

Tom Brady seems ripe to fall for anything.

      • NotSoSocialB says:

I mean, one clearly cannot be a genius when one *chooses* repeated closed head injuries for big money.

    • snappyfish says:

FTX was one of Mercedes F1 sponsors this year and Toto Wolff was just quoted as saying he was “shocked” that FTX went belly up. Toto is worth a great deal of money and I find it interesting that he would be “shocked” that a non backed currency Ponzi scheme would blow up in someone’s face. I’m surprised that it lasted this long. I thought it was very reckless to the have likes of Damon, LaBron and Brady hawking this crap with a “fortune favors the brave” tag line. I get they were paid endorsers but you should know when what you are selling stinks to high heaven.

  2. Lucy says:

This only makes sense if they somehow knew before this summer that there were shenanigans. And if they knew the shenanigans, they would’ve just moved their money out and cut ties.

    • Maddy says:

Yup. It’s a cute conspiracy, but none of it makes sense. Nobody knew what was going on and had CZ not tweeted what he did, it might not have unraveled this quickly, if at all.

    • WiththeAmerican says:

It clearly shows they went to the Bahamas days after the cease and desist to the crypto scam they were fronting. Had to go to Bahamas to withdraw the money.

Then she went to costa rica, where you can transfer money without reporting where it came from.

they cashed out before the crash and then quickly divorced to protect assets.

      • Sandy says:

uh, that might explain why Gisele bought a house right across the street from Tom which I thought was a little too close for a Divorced person

      • ML says:

@Sandy, Here where I am, many people with children stay in biking distance for the kids if the divorce is vaguely amicable. I actually did not see the two homes being close together as a weird signal—I read it as better for the kids.

    • ARHUS says:

watch her full series on it. It’s so convincing when she lines up the timelines with FTX. His leave of absence from the NFL (and went to the Bahamas) was right around when the SEC send FTX a cease and desist letter.

    • ML says:

@Lucy, I went looking for info on how soon GB started making moves to potentially separate from TB. I absolutely did not factor in both of their involvement with crypto. The 2 of them made a crypto commercial in (I believe) September 2021. The 2 of them made fun of the fact that GB hates TB’s playing football in that commercial. In January or so, Matt Damon made a crypto commercial for which he began to take a lot of flack. That’s where potential cracks started to show, though FTX had a strong period in March. In May, Matt Damon wasn’t looking too good… I do not follow crypto, but looking back at the celebrities involved and the crypto markets, Culturework on TikTok makes a very, very good argument from about August onwards that GB and TB used their disintegrating marriage to deflect from their participation in a Ponzi scheme. I have no idea if GB and TB’s marriage was actually strong and they divorced for financial reasons or if it was indeed breaking down and due to their financial partnership, they chose to roll out the divorce in this manner.

Ah crypto, the gift that keeps on taking. I belonged to this personal finance Facebook group and I can’t tell you how many times I heard “Your dreams are too small, that’s why you can’t grasp how big crypto will be!” Okey dokey. As for Tom, Gisele and the gang well I guess they’ll be less rich now, boo hoo.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

      This!
Also, lots if random people on Instagram hawking it.
Really, if it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t.

  4. HeyKay says:

I still think G was correct, if Tom can not put his wife and kids as #1 over NFL that is not a marriage worth saving.

The crash of crypto on the “I’m already a multi-millionaire” crowd does not bother me.

    • pottymouth pup says:

if the “I’m already a millionaire” crowd had the opportunity to protect their assets because they were aware of this and, worse yet, did not disclose these shenanigans, they need to face the same scrutiny as Bankman-Fried will and face criminal charges as well. I’m a more than a little tired of this BS, that most people knew was a friggen scam and had the sense to stay away from, being used as yet more fuel for the antisemitic crowd

  5. ARHUS says:

OH. EM. GEE. This is so good. I love it. Tiktok handle for her is @culturework – it’s a little hard to see in the twitter. She has four parts!

  6. MK says:

OMG I just watched all 4 videos and I think her theory is brilliant!!!!! Holy cow!

    • ML says:

@MK, I also think her theory is brilliant. I do not know if Gisele and Tom would still be together or not if it weren’t for the FTX scandal, but I absolutely buy that they are using their divorce to deflect attention away from their involvement in this scandal.

  7. Matilda says:

I’m certain their marriage is over for many reasons however I feel he is much more conservative and a Trumper than we are led to believe and she is not. When you start losing respect for your partner and their thoughts and values you start losing the love. She’s a high functioning woman who wants more in life and in her partner. Obviously he wasn’t willing to make those changes at home and at work. This crypto scandal had red flags all the way, I don’t feel sorry for any of them. I’m glad I avoided investing in crypto, my former fiancé lost all his savings because he put his money in an imaginary basket. Dodged a bullet there.

  8. Hannah says:

This rings true to me- if Giselle is buying a home swimming distance from Tom. Why, even if sharing custody- would she want to be THIS close as she tries to build a “new” life away from him?

  9. jferber says:

I thought Goop advertised Crypto, too. If so, why isn’t she being sued?

    • Coco says:

She did CB posted the Ad here, I also wondered why she was not mentioned in the lawsuit. Unless she paying someone to keep her name out of the public view.

      • dlc says:

Tom and Giselle were not just advertising, they were investors and partners. I don’t think you can sue someone for being in an advertisement, actors are hired for commercials all of the time.

  10. Sandy says:

The good thing about Florida is you cannot take anyone’s home if you have a judgement against them, so both their homes will be protected, feel bad for the kids

  11. jferber says:

Sandy, that’s why they all moved to Florida, OJ too when he had hundreds of millions to pay from the civil lawsuit of the Goldmans and the Browns. I believe all sorts of criminals choose Florida for this very reason. I hate Florida for many reasons, one being that they make it a haven for criminals.

  12. Seaflower says:

A well known Florida based twitter user (Rick Wilson) suggested there is a “blonde yoko ono” involved, and then suggest Ivanka is that person. He’s heavily involved in the political scene there. Make of it what you will.

    • JaneBee says:

No disrespect, but it seems highly unlikely someone is ditching former supermodel, Giselle Bundchen, to bang Ivanka Trump.

  13. cf86713 says:

Yes I completely believe this I mean Gisele being seen with her Jiu-Jitsu instructor is by design its better to have you talk about that than this.

    • ML says:

When the pictures of Joakim (sp?) Valente with Gisele came out, Tm Brady changed his profile picture. It had been of Tom with red crypto laser eyes and his family. Now it’s a literal bust of TB and something football-ish. If this was a Machiavellian plan to deflect attention from crypto by focusing on their personal life, I find myself reluctantly impressed.
