Prince Andrew is ‘furious’ because his royal protection will be axed in December

One of the big conversations in recent years has been how the royal establishment protected Prince Andrew while simultaneously scapegoating, denigrating and harming Prince Harry. A tangible example of this was when the Sussexes’ protection was removed suddenly in March 2020 and the Windsors basically left them to die. At the same time, Prince Andrew has always had full royal protection, at the cost of millions a year, paid for by the British taxpayers. Even back in August of this year – a month before QEII passed away – Ravec said that Andrew was still entitled to full royal protection no matter what. Ravec is the secretive governing body which determines who gets protection and who doesn’t. Harry is suing Ravec/the police over his lack of protection when he travels to the UK. But I digress – it looks like Andrew’s protection is now being yanked too. Now that Charles is in charge.

Prince Andrew is furious with ministers after being told that his taxpayer-funded police guard is to be axed next month. The scandal-hit royal, 62 — who was stripped of his official duties in January — still wants the public to foot the bill of up to £3 million a year for his gun cops. He is set to formally complain about the decision – even though Brits are being clobbered by the worst cost of living crisis since World War Two.

The Duke of York is escorted by police guards whenever he leaves the grounds of Windsor , Berks. It is estimated to cost the taxpayer up to £3million every year. But he is to lose his round-the-clock guards in mid-December after being stripped of his official duties in January in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein sex scandal. And the latest decision suggests he has no real hope of returning as a working royal any time soon

A source told the Sun on Sunday: “He is going to write to the Home Office and the Met Police to complain about losing his taxpayer-funded security.”

Andrew’s diva-like demand for continued taxpayer funding is likely to spark a backlash from the public as they struggle with rocketing bills

One senior Labour MP said: “He doesn’t seem to understand that he’s in disgrace and people don’t want to hear from him any more — especially him with his begging bowl. I know he has a title, but that doesn’t mean he is entitled to taxpayer-funded protection. I know families who don’t know if they will be able to afford their kids’ Christmas presents this year.

[From The Sun]

The decision never made any sense, to allow Andrew to keep his protection over the past three years all while denying the Sussexes any protection even on their visits to the UK. Most of the stories about Andrew since 2020 are about how he never goes anywhere, he stays on the Royal Windsor Estate, he doesn’t do anything but watch television and ride horses. I would imagine there are significantly fewer threats to Andrew in general, especially as compared to the violent racist threats against Harry and Meghan. Anyway, just a reminder that Andrew is the f–king worst. Of course he’s throwing a fit about this. What a loser.

He’s such a loser. He can pay for his own protection…or not.

  2. Tacky says:

Charles wasn’t playing when he said he wanted Andrew out of sight.

    • DouchesOfCambridge says:

Even if Charles wanted to give him protection, he screwed any chances to keep him protected when he yanked it from Harry. oh well
Charles has so many money scandal going on, he’s going to have to clean the monarchy’s finances really drastically to make it seem like he understands the public struggle…

  3. Aud says:

He really really just does not get it at all. He still doesn’t think he did anything wrong. He still doesn’t see it as a big deal. Just completely delusional.

    • Elizabeth Phillips says:

And I feel pretty sure that he doesn’t receive anywhere near as many threats for being a rapist as Meghan did for being pregnant with a royal baby while biracial. He needs to be locked up and never heard from again.

  4. Jan90067 says:

All I can say is it’s about time.

Of course he doesn’t “get it”; this is a man who groped his own daughter’s ass (on camera!) when looking at tributes to his newly deceased mother!

  5. MY3CENTS says:

Yeah, it’s scary, wouldn’t want some crazy dangerous sex offender getting near him or other shady people.

    • SarahCS says:

Given the horror stories we’ve had coming from the Met Police lately since the murder of Sarah Everard, I can read your comment two very different ways!

  6. Amy Bee says:

Interesting that they don’t mention Harry in this piece. Given Andrew lives on the Windsor estate, it means that he still have police protection.

    • KC says:

That’s what I was thinking. Especially if he doesn’t do anything but watch tv and ride horses.

But all this leads to a question: how with all his security was he so free to get entangled with Epstein and Maxwell and inflict his atrocities on young women?🤔 I mean, are there some former security that could have been called to account for the offenses claimed against him?

And yeah, he doesn’t get it because this family doesn’t get it. They think Harry has committed a greater offense-choosing not to be associated with their royal and self-aggrandizing set for the love of a woman. Andrew is simply doing what hundreds of years in their monarchy has been done and deemed acceptable. H did the unthinkable. You do not fall in love and procreate with someone like M, you marry an English rose for offspring and dally with M on the side. The BRF live in an alternate reality.

  7. Lizzie Bathory says:

I suspect that this is related to Andrew telegraphing plans for a season of shooting parties, as well as his recent trip to Bahrain. Not only is it a bad look, but bags of cash must only be handed over to the heir.

Charles really is determined to lock Andrew up at Windsor.

    • Nadine says:

This secret trip to Bahrain is the first thing that came to my mind. Andrew got some quid-quo-pro and Charles won’t stand for that. Charles wants all the toys (and bags of cash and titles and jewels).

  8. Eurydice says:

Interesting that even though we don’t really know Charles, we still can guess what he’s going to do next. We were predicting this would be on his “to do” list.

    • Isabella says:

I wonder if the security issue is partly behind the slimmed down monarchy. 3 million for each person is a lot of cash.

  9. equality says:

So 3 mil for someone not getting out much. How much is the total for all the “working” royals plus their children? Let ALL of them pay for their own security.

    • SarahCS says:

Absolutely, every day we see more and more headlines about how people are suffering because of the cost of living crisis and 12 years of government under-funding of our services. We all know he’s absolutely clueless and if anything I want him to make more noise so more attention is paid to how much this family cost us and how entitled and tone deaf they are.

    • KATHLEEN WILLIAMS says:

Even when Harry offered to pay for his own security, it was denied, so I don’t care about Andy at all. Charles is all but guaranteeing that Andy weill write a tell all.

  10. Talia says:

It just goes to show that the claims RAVEC is independent are nonsense. The minute the Queen isn’t there to say Andrew should keep his security, it’s gone.

  11. Becks1 says:

Huh, I thought the Queen was paying for his security privately at this point. Guess not.

As long as he lives on the Windsor estate, he’s going to have some protection so that should console him.

  12. crazyoldlady says:

Andrew is sad and gross – but his position in the royal family makes it clear why Harry was right to leave and build a life of his own. The army of spares rolling around in this weird, deeply privileged space — but with no real purpose or lives of their own –, it’s a recipe for disaster. Andrew is corrupt and lame because that was all that was left for him opportunity-wise – the adult spares are genuinely treated as spares, objects that fill space in family photos and little else. Of course they are lost people.

  13. Well Wisher says:

Andrew has become the collateral damage in the war against the Sussexes.

This confirmed that it never ceased, was on simmer when the Queen was alive, now on a full boil as Harry’s ‘loving’ father flexes his authority.

He will continue to refuse security for his son.

It would be a shame, if Charles’s behaviour towards his extended family defines this reign, despite one’s personal opinions of them.

He has been squandering whatever moral authority he inherited from his mother, the late Queen, on petty grievances against his extended family.

Maybe a good read, but not a good look.

  14. SIde Eye says:

“He doesn’t seem to understand that he’s in disgrace and people don’t want to hear from him any more — especially him with his begging bowl.” That quote is a warm cup of awesome on a cold day.

    What a loser indeed.

  15. ML says:

Three years ago, Paedrew should have immediately lost all of his privileges after the disgusting BBC interview. Remember, Paedrew thought the interview went well. Here’s the transcript: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-50449339.amp
In the “better way too late than never” category, KC is finally dotting his i’s and crossing his t’s on this. And as @SarahCS mentioned in the comments above, hopefully Paedrew fights this. Popcorn.

  16. QuiteContrary says:

I know somewhere he’d be under constant surveillance.

    An American prison.

  17. Roo says:

Hmmm, it could get very interesting as Andrew seethes and gnashes his teeth about losing his privileges and any hope for returning to the royal fold. How long before he writes a tell-all or does interviews to exact his revenge on KFC3?

    I’ll go get the popcorn.

  18. Julia K says:

Charles is flexing his royal muscles against Andrew and Edward as a warm up and excuse for taking away the Sussex childrens. titles and maybe even Harry’s dukedom , so that Archie can’t inherit his father’s dukedom in the future. Dirty pool.
