Margot Robbie wore Alaia to the LA ‘Babylon’ premiere: meh or hot?

Last night was the big LA premiere of Babylon, Damien Chazelle’s three-hour and nine-minute ode to the pre-standards Hollywood. A wild time full of booze, drugs, sex and scandals. I still don’t want to see it and I don’t want to support Brad Pitt whatsoever. All of the stars came out for the premiere, including Margot Robbie, who has been doing the bulk of the promotion thus far. Margot’s dress is Alaia – it included a built-in hood. She looked chic and on-theme. She also posed with her costar Diego Calva on the carpet.

Here’s Brad Pitt in Tom Ford. Blah.

Did you know that Olivia Wilde is in Babylon? She is. She plays Pitt’s character’s ex-wife. The skirt is tragique.

Jean Smart, always a fave.

Okay, I did NOT know that Elle Fanning is dating Max Minghella!! They’re cute together, although the age difference displeases me – she’s 24, he’s 37.

Tobey Maguire – who is in the movie – brought his daughter Ruby as his date. Ruby is a carbon-copy of her mom Jennifer Meyer, it’s so funny.

Margot’s dress is a lot to take in. And the end to the train, looks like an animal hid under there. She looks good, but they did her wrong with that dress.
And none of the dress are WOW worthy, in my opinion. Snooze fest fashion wise.

  2. HamsterJam says:

    Margot’s dress also included a built-in mullet.

  3. Eurydice says:

I like what Margot is wearing. I wasn’t sure about the hanging drape, but it’s a bit like the fur/feather edgings on 1930’s dresses.

Are see-through black skirts back again?

Elle Fanning has been around for so long that I forget she’s only 34.

  4. Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

Sorry, Margot, but even wearing a Very Important Designer will not entice me to see a movie with that abusive turd.

  5. Sass says:

I’m torn on Margot’s dress. I like it and then I don’t. I love Diego’s suit and the huge gerbera boutonnière.

I didn’t even recognize Tobey at first.

  6. littlegossipboy says:

Elle’s hair is the real winner.

  7. Susan says:

I think Olivia Wilde needs a new stylist. Her makeup is way too harsh, her styles are weird vampy, she needs a full makeover.

    • laurie says:

@susan. Yes agree! Her outfits are SO bad. At least in this one her boobs aren’t pressed flat in the middle of her chest. And I really don’t get the raccoon eyes.

    • AMA1977 says:

Agree. The makeup looks like Julia Fox is moonlighting, but the jacket could have been chic and flattering with matching cigarette pants. The flouncy sheer ridiculousness she’s wearing looks BAD.

  8. HandforthParish says:

    Ok, so Diego looks good!

Margot coordinated with her mother, who looked incredibly stylish. Their dresses actually worked really well as a matching pair- she looks better on the pictures together.

  9. Mads says:

I saw on a diff site Margot brought her mom and she’s absolutely beautiful! I can see where Margot gets her beauty. I rly like her dress actually. Ruby is her moms twin it’s uncanny she’s very pretty. Also Jean smart can do no wrong 🙂

  10. blue says:

    Cheers for Jean Smart.
If Margot’s dress were white, I’d think she was wrapped in toilet paper.

  11. Kirsten says:

I actually like Olivia’s look better than Margot’s. Margot’s just has too many things: a train, a hood, wrap fabric, cutouts, ultra mini, some kind of clip holding it all together?

    • Philly says:

Same, Olivia looks fab. Margot is gorgeous and I love a hooded gown but waist down her dress is a mess.

  12. Lizzie Bathory says:

Jean Smart looks like a million bucks.

I can’t believe this movie is 3 hours long. From the trailer alone, it looked like a meandering, bloated story. I’d be surprised if it’s a good film.

  13. Case says:

I like how Margot’s dress is an Old Hollywood callback, but wish it didn’t have that huge cutout in the middle.

  14. tealily says:

I think I actually will see this movie. I can’t stand Pitt or Maguire, but I love old school Hollywood and Margot Robbie. It looks like an overwrought mess, but it might be fun.

  15. Solidgold says:

    I love Olivias look.

    Brad looks confused. lol

  16. lucy2 says:

    I like Jean’s and Dakota’s, and…that’s it.

  17. Frippery says:

I don’t know that I would take my 16 year old daughter to a movie about sexy sex and sexy scandals and sexy parties and maybe, sexy drugs I guess? I also don’t think I would want to watch a movie like that with my Dad if I were a teenager. 🤷‍♀️

  18. DouchesOfCambridge says:

She’s the face of the movie and her dress was try-hard-extra. Doesnt feel like she’s comfortable or natural in it. It feels like she didnt choose it for herself.

  19. Well Well says:

Olivia needs a new stylist and makeup artist. You can tell Margot’s dress was meant to “stun,” but something’s missing or off, and it just looks okay to me. Brad looks ok, but his PR team is putting out numerous stories that he took Ines De Ramon to the after party…but so far, there’s no photos of her there.

  20. The Voice says:

Parts of Margot’s dress worked but when I think of old Hollywood glamour, I think of silky drapey fabric. This dress has too many cutouts, was the wrong material (velvet?), and the skirt was too short. If it was slinky, drapey, and with a bigger hood it might’ve hit the mark.
