Quinta Brunson and the Abbott Elementary cast won last night at the SAGs

The SAG Awards were livestreamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel, which seems like the future. The only reason I have cable now is to watch awards shows for my job. Most people I know have already cut the cord. The drawback is that you can’t rewind all live YouTube broadcasts, at least I couldn’t for this on my Roku. So I didn’t see any clips on social media as it aired. It’s a shame because they have the most viral moments and the SAGs are typically the best written and most interesting awards show. The vibe is good and it’s fun and entertaining. One of the best early moments was the “I’m an actor” opener, when Quinta Brunson and Janelle James did a bit where they were sort of in character and pretended like they didn’t know they had to make speeches. Tyler James Williams looked like he was struggling to stay in character behind them and didn’t want to give it away!

Abbott Elementary won Ensemble in a Comedy Series! I’m so happy for them, they definitely deserve it. That show is fresh, funny and poignant. I loved seeing them all on stage together! Quinta was in a cool-looking Jean-Louis Sabaji gown that looked like it had a shell design on the front.

Janelle James wore Rodarte and I liked the way this looked in the still photos she posted to Instagram. You couldn’t see the details in some of the red carpet photos.

Sheryl Lee Ralph was in Tadashi Shoji, styled by her talented 28-year-old daughter. Sheryl always looks amazing.

As a small chested woman I sometimes get boob envy. That was my initial response when I saw Lisa Ann Walter. Lisa took her Parent Trap costar and best friend, Elaine Hendrix, as her date last night. Lisa put a lot of cute posts in her Instagram stories about it.

I’m adding Ariana DeBose because I’m wrapping up my SAGs coverage and I needed a place to put her, honestly. She seems to have recovered fine from people making fun of her BAFTAs rap. It was harmless, it wasn’t her fault and she posted a thank you on Instagram to all the people who supported her. Angela Bassett even reached out to her and referenced her in her Image Awards speech. Plus Ariana referenced it during her presenting duties last night! She looked gorgeous in a pink Prabal Gurung pantsuit. Ariana is a chameleon, she looks so different here.

I love, love, love Abbott Elementary. My niece teaches in the Philly schools and she vouches for its authenticity. It’s just so warm and hilarious and sweet.

Sheryl Lee Ralph is so wonderful. And Quinta deserves all the awards.

I also loved that Chessy and Meredith went to the SAG Awards together!
