Prince Harry told his dad that he will absolutely skip the coronation concert

One of the things I’ve found interesting in recent weeks is that Prince Harry allowed Buckingham Palace to confirm/announce his attendance. While the Archewell spokesperson confirmed, a while back, that the Sussexes received the email invitation, Archewell didn’t release a statement alongside the palace for Harry’s confirmation. Omid Scobie tweeted that Harry’s trip would be quick and various palace sources have said over the past week that Harry would likely only attend the crowning ceremony and skip literally everything else. Because the palace currently has “control” of the story, they’re slowly giving the press details about Harry’s trip and trying to spread out the exclusives. Meaning, everyone’s trying to make it into a major storyline that Harry is “skipping” the bloody coronation concert, how dare he.

Prince Harry will fly back to California to be with Meghan and their two young children just hours after his father King Charles’s coronation in London, royal sources have claimed today. The Duke of Sussex has confirmed he will be at Westminster Abbey on May 6 without his wife and their children Archie and Lilibet.

It is now believed that Harry has told the King that he will not stay in Britain for the star-studded concert at Windsor Castle the following day – and will instead fly back to the US after the ceremony so he can be with his family and belatedly celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday, which is also on May 6.

A source told the Mirror: ‘Harry said that he would be returning for the King’s Coronation but it will only be a fleeting visit. Organisers have been told Harry won’t be attending the concert with the rest of the Royal Family, which is a great shame as it will be such a spectacular event.’

It comes after friends of the Sussexes had said Harry’s visit to Britain will be a ‘fairly quick trip’ and that he will only be at the coronation.

Harry will play no part in next month’s official procession, walking in and out as a guest. Front row seats will be reserved for working members of the Royal Family. Sources have also indicated that the Duke delayed replying to the invitation to the coronation because he was ‘preoccupied’ by where he would have to sit during the ceremony.

[From The Daily Mail]

“He was ‘preoccupied’ by where he would have to sit during the ceremony” – friends-of-the-Sussexes have already disputed that, saying that in his negotiations with the palace, Harry was mainly concerned about security. I also believe that he probably told the palace that he didn’t want to be seated with Prince Andrew or Prince William. As for Harry skipping the coronation concert, it’s what we already knew before now. As I keep saying, this is the exact same f–king storyline from last year’s Jubbly – when Harry leaves Westminster Abbey and immediately hops on a plane, the British media will act like it’s brand new information and they’ll rage about how he should have shown up for his father and attended the Katy Perry concert, just like they were mad that the Sussexes didn’t go to the Jubbly parade and concert.

Looking at that lineup…..a lot people will be skipping.

    • Renae says:

I certainly wouldn’t sit thru a concert featuring performers who only rate *casino circuit* gigs. All of them are past their ‘sell-by’ date.
If this coronation is so great (historic….70yrs in the making, etc), one would think they would have a Live-Aid type lineup. Alas, its dated pap.

      • Maxine Branch says:

@Renea says. ‘“Casino Circuit gigs, 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 performers.

    • Carmen says:

What “spectacular event?” The one where they had to scrape up some D-listers to perform at?

Harry’s spectacular event is his son’s birthday.

  2. Brassy Rebel says:

Lots of people skipping that god forsaken concert. Why should Harry be any different?

  3. Layla says:

Yeah… when you see “friends of the Sussexes” from the daily fail, then you KNOW the article is a lie because no true friend of the Sussexes would talk to this dirty rag

  4. CC says:

Harry’s not a ‘Take That’ fan, eh?

    • KT says:

Again, there is no need to be mean about beloved British music acts in order to dunk on Charles.

Lots and lots of Brits adore Take That.
They hold records for ticket sales that would make many American acts Green with envy.

  5. Dee(2) says:

Don’t dare show your face here we hate you, everyone hates you, you’re worthless. ( Doesn’t show up). How dare you not come, you’re so disrespectful, you’re breaking your family’s heart, this would have been great for you to be here it’s a shame you couldn’t stay. Ad infinitum.

    • Kim says:

The British Media are mad they cannot get access to MM; she made one appearance leaving a restaurant since December 2022, and they still daily print more lies about MM than coronation updates. They are so desperate for information and sightings of MM, they printed a picture of her simply leaving a restaurant on the Daily Mail front page. Ridiculous! Totally agree with what she’s doing: do not give them any access to her family. Freeze them out.

      • Lucky Charm says:

Copy Keen should take a page from that play book the next time she wants to phase out someone, lol!

    • Christine King says:

Harry is showing respect for his Father and the British Monarchy by attending the coronation.

If the Royal Family subjects him to sit in the cheap seats and the British media dares to denigrate him, it won’t end well for them.

  6. Well they are leaking his itinerary so as to not make him not safe. No wonder he will do the least just get in and get out done.

    • Mary says:

My first thought, @Susan, after reading that excerpt. They really do want harm to fall upon the Sussexes.

      • ellie says:

What a horrid family. Sa but true i think they do wish harm on all of Harry’s family. I worry about Harry’s safety being there even a short time.

  7. aquarius64 says:

Again, it’s complaining about loss of content = loss of money for the BM.

  8. Becks1 says:

LOL….a concert so spectacular they could barely find anyone to perform…..and when they did, it’s Harry’s California neighbor.

of course he’s going straight home. Why would he want to be around those people longer than he needs to be?

    • Flowerlake says:

Yeah. Why the keenness for Americans?

If no big British or Commonwealth artists accepted, find smaller ones or the local pub singer.

My country has far fewer famous stars than the UK, but it would seem very strange to me if they invited people who had nothing to do with our king to a coronation concert

      • Jensa says:

I don’t really understand this either. The Royal Family also seem to be obsessed with making an impact in the US, when they have absolutely no role there. Like William and his Earthshot awards, which in no way needed to be held in the US.
The concert should have focused on the UK and Commonwealth countries where the King is recognised. Surely they could have found enough interesting artists in those countries to fill a concert programme.

      • Kim says:

Many artists from the U.S. and U.K. clearly refuse to attend; they don’t like what they see in the British Media and don’t understand the vitriol and negativity towards Meghan Markle. The British Media look absolutely bad, and the Royal Family doesn’t look like a true family to many people. No one wants to see Katy Perry or Lionel Richie perform – he hasn’t had a hit in over 30 years. Bottom line: The British Media with their daily lives, and the Royal Family with their coldness and their terrible treatment of MM ruined Charles’ coronation. Charles wants the attention, but even with MM staying the U.S., the commentators will still talk about her.

    • windyriver says:

I wonder if Charles was aiming for something like the original Prince’s Trust concerts, held fairly regularly in the 1980’s (though looks like there have been some intermittently since then). He was able to pull the big names at the time for those. Looked up the acts for the 1987 concert – Clapton, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Jeff Lynne, etc. Charles being Charles, wouldn’t be surprised if he expected to put together something on that level for his so important Chubbly. Clearly not happening, and must be a lot of disappointment around the palace…

      • Cairidh says:

I went to one in 1998 and Lionel Ritchie was there. So yeah, he’s inviting people who performed at the party in the park concerts. Also there were a lot of recent chart toppers, inc boyzone and eternal. Of course he would have expected just as many big names at the coronation.

  9. Beverley says:

The concert will be a “spectacular event”? 🤣🤪😆🤪🤣🤪😆

    • UNCDancer says:

I love me some Commodores but Lionel Richie is hardly a spectacular event.😂

      • Jais says:

I mean I’m going to enjoy a laugh watching the Windsors stiffly dance while he sings All Night Long. The meme potential is there and Charles and Camilla will get the attention they want.

      • Beverley says:

@UNCDancer, agreed! I loved me some Lionel Ritchie and the Commodores too…40 years ago.

@Jais, not just the crusty, rusty Windsors – prolly even dear ol’ Lionel will be too stiff to dance!

      • Deering24 says:

Heh. Lionel Richie’s music was way better when he was with The Commodores. When he went solo, he headed straight for mainstream sap without passing Go. 😛

    • LadyO says:

      A spectacular flop!

  10. Brittney says:

Last month, I left London at 11 AM on a Sunday and landed in Denver at 1:30 PM on the same Sunday. It sounds like he’s leaving just in time to still see Archie on his birthday!

    • K8erade says:

He’ll be home before 5 and will probably be there just in time for cake.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

Exactly! His son’s birthday is way more important than a B-list “extravaganza”.
And I agree with above-why spend more time than he has to with people who despise him? That’s a no brainer.

Diana aside. Have been listening to Supertramp a lot lately, and “Give a Little Bit” was one of her favorite songs. I love that. She truly was the People’s Princess.
Camilla’s in-your-face coronation, I am sure, will make Harry, and maybe William, faintly ill.

    • Kingston says:

Wait ’til the salty islanders learn that H will be flying in and out on the private jet of his daughter’s godfather. ROTFLMAO

      Talk about screaming-crying-and-throwing-up. LOL

  11. K8erade says:

That concert is going to be a borefest and I’d skip the lunch too if coronation quiche is served.

    • Roo says:

To be fair, quiche can be delicious. But quiche with LIMA BEANS, no. WTH is that abomination?

      • smarmyo says:

Also: spinach. Love my quiche, but I’d never recommend that mouth-mess for anyone, much less a public lunch. No one will want to eat it for fear of getting spinach in one’s teeth.

  12. Quincytoo says:

    Star studded ?!?!

Last time I saw it was. C + music artist now doing TV ads for door dash

  13. Amy Bee says:

Yeah I don’t get why the Mirror is acting like this is exclusive information. It was said from the start that Harry was only going to be at the ceremony. There’s going to be outrage when he doesn’t stay for the luncheon but Harry is following the same plan that he had for the Jubilee.

  14. SURE says:

I imagine the next storyline to leak from the palace will be that H won’t be allowed to wear his military uniform as per TQ”s funeral.

  15. Lili says:

Well What did they expect, its on his kids birthday for one, did they really bank on the whole family coming over? and have a party where his friend wont attend, what happned last year at lilibets party it was widely leaked the cousins didnt attend, but we all knew she wouldnt remember much. Archie is going to be getting his feet drty with his mum and his freinds

    • Eurydice says:

They could have banked on the whole family coming over, if they had invited the children and made it clear that Meghan was welcome…and not evicted them from their home…and briefed wildly to the press… and, and…

  16. HeyKay says:

They should be grateful that Harry agreed to attend at all. The end.

I’m completely not watching any of it. Charles and Camillas Bore-A-Nation hypocrite festival.

    • Jaded says:

I refuse to watch this self-aggrandizing snooze-fest, I’d probably wreck the TV throwing stuff at it.

  17. HeyKay says:

Sir Doctor Brian May isn’t playing? Hmmmm.
Ususally Brian May shows up for the opening of a royal envelope

  18. Murphy says:

This is it Harry, the last big hurdle until a long stretch of freedom!

  19. Eurydice says:

He’ll miss sharing the concert with the rest of the royal family…who will shun him and insist he sit far, far away from them. Yes, sounds like a spectacular experience to me.

  20. Surly Gale says:

I think H is saying: I’ll be there for my Dad. I’ll be there because …. history. I’ll be there because he is now, sadly, my ‘commander in chief’ and I need to honour my fellow service members. That said, I’m not celebrating this event. I’m certainly not celebrating QC being crowned. I’m here for the ‘important’ bit, but that’s all. This whole fiasco is nothing to celebrate. That said, I will be celebrating BIG TIME, my beloved son’s birthday.
I hear Harry saying ‘I will celebrate love. I will not celebrate hate’, which is all he gets from his Dad’s ‘friends’ and his brother, and even from said ‘Dad’. He’s drawing clean lines between himself, his family, the institution and the gutter press.
Dear Harry ~ stay safe. Stay sane. Get home in one piece. Don’t let the buggers get you down. You’ve moved on so please, please, please, keep on moving on. Stay true to your truth.

    • Kingston says:

      @Surly Gale
The “there for my dad” bit is merely incidental. Thats definitely NOT H’s main reason for attending. Because, for example, if this was a gala 75th birthday celebration for chucky, theres no way in h3ll H would have flown in from Cali for that!

For example, he definitely WONT be flying in for chucky’s upcoming first Trooping the Colors in June.

So the primary reason he’s attending, is: he’s not only high up in the LoS, but the first adult in the line, following the ‘crown prince.’ Because the 3 ahead of him are all minors.

Secondly, chucky is NOT Prince Harry’s “commander in chief’ because H is no longer an active soldier…….he’s a private citizen.

HOWEVER, because H works so closely with the military, not only in the UK but so many other countries that are part of Invictus, he HAS to BE SEEN TO BE on good terms with his own country’s CiC.

So H’s attendance to chucky’s shiny hat party is STRICTLY BUSINESS.

  21. Jais says:

Honestly, if Meghan had come with Harry, the stories would be about whether or not they’d be invited to xyz family event. But now that it’s just Harry, of course he’s invited to all the extraneous events. It’s so insulting imo. I keep thinking about how they cut Meghan out of the sandringham discussion. If they could isolate Harry and make him see reason(ditching Meghan and coming back to the UK), they would. Although at this point, the family at least has to know that’s not gonna happen. Wish Harry safety in all his trips to the UK, whether for coronations or lawsuits.

    • Jojo says:

@Jais you said…‘If they could isolate Harry and make him see reason(ditching Meghan and coming back to the UK), they would. Although at this point, the family at least has to know that’s not gonna happen.’

I’d say… never underestimate the royal bubble induced delusions of these insane, tunnel-visioned people.

  22. TheOriginalMia says:

Maybe Harry would have stayed for more (doubt it) if his sorry father hadn’t scheduled his coronation on his grandson’s birthday. Forcing Harry to choose between his duty to the Crown and his beloved family was a crappy thing to do. Charles should be happy Harry is even showing up for this ridiculous, time and money wasting event.

  23. Giddy says:

On Chubbly day I hope that a loving birthday picture of Archie with his Mom and Dad knocks KC3 off the front page. ❤️

  24. Bluenoser says:

    Daily Fail: “star-studded concert”.

    Sure, Jan.

  25. Escape says:

He’ll get in and get out and not give a shit where he sits bc he wears the big boy pants. The really party is going to be at M&H’s house. I bet they have a wonderful party planned at their home that evening.

  26. Over it says:

Harry lives near many stars, he doesn’t need to stay for a has been star one .

  27. MaryContrary says:

He’s doing the absolute bare minimum-the coronation itself and then he’s out. He’ll look straight ahead the whole time doing his duty, talk to a few of his cousins and then he’ll bounce. End of story. And then let the snoozefest continue.

  28. tamra says:

Once chuckie was crowned, I would get up and leave! It would make me vomit to watch the beoch crowned! I’m just that petty! LOL

  29. Mary Pester says:

They do know where Harry lives don’t they? 🤣WHY would he stay to watch some aged singers /performers and the crinkly crew acting like IT’S REALLY something special( it’s sooooo not). Katy Perry will be the youngest one there I think, but I’m not sure, they could get George on stage to sing the Arsenal anthem. No, if Harry wants to see “stars” he can walk down the road, OR zoom call some of his friends. EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT BULLY AND BOTOX

  30. Mame says:

The people in the concert don’t even want to be there at this rate. I do not blame Harry one bit. Hit it and quit it.

  31. QuiteContrary says:

Harry can get a front-row seat, complete with backstage passes, at any concert he wants in the U.S. Why would be bother sticking around for Has-been Fest, especially when he has a real star — Prince Archie — he wants to celebrate?

  32. equality says:

Charles has hidden himself away and been “too busy” to see PH anytime he is in the UK. He ran off and hid when PH came to Balmoral after QE died. He constantly lets articles stand without rebuttal about snubbing PH and took all kinds of punitive measures against him during the mourning period of QE. All while supporting PA. He is getting far more than he deserves in PH attending just the ceremony.

  33. EasternViolet says:

I heard through Royal Tik Tok that Harry has a restraining order against William, which threw a wrench in the seating because William is not allowed within so many metres of his brother.

Not that I hold much weight into this rumour, but I like to imagine it was true.

  34. Monlette says:

If Harry wants to see Katie Perry he can drive for five minutes and knock on her door.

The whole rest of the l lineup isn’t exactly “rise out of you seat and start dancing” levels of entertaining.

Lionel Richie is a big name but most of his better songs are about unrequited love, which is a bit awkward, given the royal couple’s history.

Kylie Minogue is also a big name…in the easy listening genre. It’s looking to be a snooze fest. If she manages to get the senior royals doing the locomotion to live things up, it will be the end of the monarchy.

    • NightOwl says:

I believe Kylie Minogue bowed out of the concert on March 4/5 because of “growing Republican sentiment in Australia.”

  35. Jay says:

Nope! H is skipping the proverbial receiving line, he’s refusing the complimentary tea and dry biscuits, and he’s getting on the first plane to California before the bells for Charles have even finished tolling.

And, best of all, the British media won’t know he’s in American airspace until he is long gone.

It’s just like the jubbly all over again – the Sussexes are no longer working royals. Y’all made sure of it. Why would they then come to any of the extra ceremonial events? Why should they lend the BRF even an ounce of their shine? Why would Harry want to hang out with these scumbags who made his wife’s life a living hell and put his family in danger?

And why would he miss his son’s birthday for some third rate concert? If he really wants to see Katy Perry perform I’m sure she will be asked at the next Montecito neighborhood karaoke night.

  36. JB says:

“Star-studded” doing some really heavy lifting here.

  37. C says:

I’d skip it too. Katy Perry and Lionel Richie are the only ones I’d even be remotely interested in and I can vibe to them with vodka at home, LOL.

  38. one of the marys says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing his grey haired security guard again. Competence and capability are very attractive

  39. HeyKay says:

I just realized that if Harry gets in and attends the part when Charles is crowned, can he gracefully slide out to the bathroom before it turns into The Camilla Show?
I would Run to the jet and haul to get outta there.

Harry is taking the high road by attending at all.
Get in, jet out, home by 6pm in time for cake, pj and story time with Archie. 👍

  40. Well Wisher says:

Why the media is not happy for William? Prince Harry, by just attending the service, and returning to his family allows William will have the spotlight, limelight and any other light passing by never mind his father’s big day.

  41. phlyfiremama says:

    “Spectacular event” 🤣🤣🤣

  42. HeyKay says:

    Well Wisher, good point.
If Harry is in/out pretty quickly that leaves more time and attention for Charles, Cam, Will.
We all know that balcony is going to be C&C front and center, with Will & George right next to Charles in the photos.
The all important Line of King, FK, FFK as close together, each wearing a stupid overly decorated with medals uniform, hats with feathers.

  43. jferber says:

HeyKay, I’m still hoping that despite the inevitable warnings and restraining orders, Kate WILL go front and center on the balcony and not BUDGE. At the last event, they actually had to re-do the pictures because that was the only way to remove her from front and center. I kinda love that behavior from her because it’s so insane! It’s like she’s as big an attention whore as Chuck and by now she’s taller than he is. She’ll likely be towering over him as she refuses to move from his side. She can even crazy glue herself to his suit (crazy being the operative word). And it might actually happen!

    • TangerineTree says:

@jferber Yes, please! Krazy Kate IS hilarious in a Melania-Xmas-Decorations kind of way.
Kate, walk to the balcony center and DO. NOT. BUDGE. lol!

  44. Sherri says:

Let’s see…..Lionel Richie and Katy Perry. I’d skip it too.

  45. MinorityReport says:

I’m irrationally annoyed by the lack of princely titles used in this article for the Sussex children. The Wales children are always titled in the British media. Suck it up, you salty bitches. Prince Archie and Princess Lili are here to stay.

  46. Nermine says:

@MINORITYREPORT – All this because of Charles, whom Harry so desperately wants to honor and reconcile with him.

  47. Gaah says:

Lionel Richie and Katy Perry are spectacular? One was at the top of his game 40 years ago and the other 15 years ago. Way to attract the youth to your coronation and showing them that the monarchy is not old and stodgy

  48. ArtFossil says:

When I see Charles I think of Harry Chaplin and Cat’s in the Cradle:

“And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
“When you coming home, son?” “I don’t know when”
But we’ll get together then, dad
We’re gonna have a good time then”

  49. HennyO says:

There are no friends or sources of Harry/Meghan talking to these rags or random (broadsheet) reporters, especially not from the ones he’s taking to court.

H&M said it in a clear statement – specifying their reasons, choices and bouderies – at the time when they were about to step back as working royals, and again when they where in LA, per their spokesperson.

They speak directly to say what they want to, or via their lawyers or spokesperson, if/when they want to. Harry has stressed it out in his Spare promo interviews as well.

So we should take all these stories telling us what they believed to have or reportedly have said, think, feel, want, have told family members, etc., via sources and close friend, as what they are – made up and twisted lies, fiction, obvious conclusions presented as facts, clickbait to instigate anger and hate, deliberate misrepresentation for profit.
