Princess Kate made an empty-handed visit to a Windsor baby bank today

The Princess of Wales did a “surprise” event today in Windsor, just a short distance from the Royal Windsor Estate, which is where Kate lives in Adelaide Cottage. For now. These Windsor “events” always reek of last-minute busywork from William and Kate – they also did a surprise visit to a local Windsor food bank. And much like that food bank visit, Kate showed up empty handed to today’s visit to a local baby bank.

Kate has done some appearances at baby banks before. These baby banks provide clothes, diapers and other essentials to parents with babies or small children. Kate has three kids – surely she has some old kids’ clothes which she could have donated? Surely she could have made a quick stop at a grocery store to load up on diapers to donate? Of course not. Kate was merely there for the photo-op, to inspire others to donate, I guess. That’s why Kensington Palace didn’t put any information about the visit – or information about where and how to donate – on their social media accounts as of this writing, which is more than an hour after her visit. Not even an Instagram Story. It’s not even the bare minimum. Update: the KP team did eventually post about the visit on their socials. They even tagged the baby bank… in the third tweet.

Kate’s outfit looks familiar because we’ve seen her wear versions of this before, soon after she saw Meghan pair black trousers with an off-white blazer. Meghan looked like she was wearing a smart suit with a feminine twist. Kate looks like a 41-year-old wearing a cheap costume to approximate something she saw on Meghan.

I don’t mind the outfit in principle, however, I hate the current trend of double breasted jackets for women. I remember that from the 80s and early 90s and it’s a boxy look that I just don’t like. That said on a more serious note I do not understand why they don’t have on their social media, all of the links how to donate and encouragement for people to volunteer if they can’t donate. It just makes no sense to me. If they’re sincere about “shining a light“ on these issues, you would think that would be the first thing they would do. It’s so basic it’s mind blowing that they don’t do it.

    • Sam says:

@kaiser you hit the point! The whole outfit screams Meghan especially the loafers!!! But it just looks cheap on kate. I think it’s kate herself but also the shoes.
It really isn’t that hard to copy someone, especially when you’re making it so obvious. I have no idea what her problem is..

      • CC says:

Those shoes look like Roger Vivier, famously worn by Catherine Deneuve, and pointed out on Cate Blanchett’s character in ‘Blue Jasmine.’ You might think they look cheap, but the flats’ starting point is around $600.

      • Tacky says:

The shoes are Boden. Vivier would never make shoes that ugly.

    • Jan90067 says:

NONE of them ever arrive with a donation for the charity they deign to visit. Did Lizzie ever bring anything? Anne? Charles? Sophie? Eddie? The one “gift” I remember Sofiesta and Ed bringing to the Caribbean was a framed pic of THEMSELVES. THEY were the gift.

They all seem to feel this way. They feel THEY are enough of a “gift” for their visits.

Narcissistic, disgusting, and cheap, the lot of ’em!

      • Cairidh says:

The Queen used to give out smarties to children.

      • ML says:

Two things: 1. The fact that K believes “bringing attention to” a cause and doing nothing helps, and 2. Never, ever bringing a (small) gift to various charities for people in need, is seriously off putting! If she shows up for the rugby team, who cares. People in need? Lead by example, not just your presence.

    • Robert Phillips says:

They don’t do it because that would be work. Kates whole staff are nepo babies who don’t know how to do anything.

    • PrincessOfWaffles says:

I’m just here to say I keep looking for the big horse smile she used to give us, where we could see her breakfast and dinner from the day before. But Helas! she probably has a new smile therapist, because those seem to be gone.

  2. Noki says:

But WHAT IS THE REASON!!?? They are not stupid, they read the internet and know they get dragged mercilessly every time they go empty handed. There must be some legitimate reason, maybe they don’t want liabilities in bringing something that can letter cause harm, I hope they leave some monetary donation. It’s just too bizarre to keep doing this after so much criticism.

    • Anna says:

I think they avoid bringing anything to prevent setting a precedent, or creating a form of expectation that they’re there for any other reason than a photo-op.

I say, keep grifting. Maybe one day it’ll anger the public enough that they’re not just apathetic about the existence of the monarchy in their country.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

They think their mere presence is a great gift. Everyone wants to see them in person! Doing nothing but walking around like the useless fools they are.

    • Tacky says:

What royal has ever shown up with anything? They’ve been doing these types of events for at least a century and clearly don’t see that as their role.

      • Darkwing Duck says:

Tacky, I think last year Charles donated money to food banks to help them buy fridges so I don’t know why William and Kate don’t donate, especially as William now has his own income from the Duchy of Lancaster?

I think after their last foodbank visit he mouthed something to the staff about returning after the cameras were gone, I think their supporters want us to infer they do their good work from the shadows and make secret donations because they are not looking for praise but many of their donations (eg Ukraine) and visits (eg William sellling the Big Issue) have eventually come to light so what really is the point?

To the extent that these duties have any purpose at all it is to raise awareness and set an example. They have nothing else really to offer many organisations, not significant funding and not their own skills or expertise.

    • Dutch says:

This is the BRF ‘s traditional idea of service – shine a spotlight on cause to inspire and do nothing else. This attitude caused a lot of friction with outsiders like Diana and Megan who have a more modern idea of service that involves work and results. The BRF’s attitude is very corporate. There are so many big companies who tout these lofty community service achievements but when you drill down, all the money is raised or donated by front line employees and the company itself chips in next to nothing.

      • Sugarhere says:

Karen’s visits to baby-connected charities are selfishly therapeutic: they’re intended to compensate for baby #4 she’ll never have.

        Where are her children’s hand-me-downs?!

      • Dutch says:

In storage as “artifacts” waiting for some future museum exhibit that will never happen, most likely

    • AnnaKist says:

And what is the point of attending these events if you are not going to promote the cause to invite or encourage others to donate? I don’t believe that these were “surprise” events. Royals don’t just rock up too local events. There is always some plan in place.

She attends these events And turns up empty-handed, and maybe it is something to do with not wishing to set a precedent of expectation. There would be nothing wrong in taking a few crates of fresh and non-perishable food to the food banks, and a few boxes of baby needs to the baby bank. That is the opportunity to get others involved to donate; that even just a small bag of food or one or two items for the baby bank all builds up. It is not going to break the bank for them even if they do one of these events every week. They are just tight arses.

      • Elizabeth says:

And it shouldn’t take so long to put links up on Twitter, Instagram and the Royal Foundation website. This why they have a social media team. Kate could even do a two minute video.

      • First comment says:

The point of this whole visit in a baby bank so near to Windsor is just to raise Kate’s numbers without actually sacrificing a lot of her time and to promote herself as she “cares” for arly years. So no need to bring anything or donate or make others donate.

  3. Tessa says:

Twitter reported she wore expensive jewelry. She needs a good hair trim. Ad usual the jazz hands and guffawing

    • Erin says:

I rarely comment on the length of her hair as I’m her age and someone who has pretty much always had long hair and prefer it but when I saw that first pic I thought, yeah she needs a cut. I actually just chopped off my long hair a few weeks ago to just below shoulder length and at first I was freaked out and thought it was a huge mistake but now I really love it.

      • Josephine says:

I have long hair as well. It’s not an age thing, it’s that her hair does nothing for her and looks so dated. It makes her look older. A cut might give her some much needed vibrancy.

      • Erin says:

Right, I was just saying that because I’ve always seen comments and heard them about cutting your hair when you get older which is so outdated at this point and bothered me, like who cares! But you’re right, with her it’s because of the way she styles it I think that makes her look older and dated and since she’s been leaning into wearing more modern styles like this she should do the same with her hair.

      • Josephine says:

@ Erin – I’ve definitely heard that as well but I feel like there are more and more women rocking the longer hair?? I keep thinking about cutting mine – I can’t figure out that fine line between elegant and witch!!

      • SarahCS says:

I rejected the idea of short hair because you’re older but then last year I went for a chin length bob because my hair had become noticeably thinner (partly self-inflicted through dying and partly ageing – I think I got into peri-menopause early last year). Now I love how it looks and I’m finally happy with my hair again.

Do what works for you and definitely don’t cling to something just because it’s what you’re used to. She\’s chosen to make ‘big hair’ a significant part of her personality and now has to deal with the consequences of that.

      • Erin says:

@sarahcs- yes! That’s the reason I cut mine too. Peri menopause has been a bitch and it just looked dry and my pony tail was thin but I have a rounder face so I’ve never liked the way I looked with shorter hair but I’m really happy I just went for it and it was actually just a spur of the moment choice and she actually cut it shorter than I thought it was going to be but I’m really happy.

    • AmelieOriginal says:

I’m not someone who likes to police the length of someone’s hair but when I cut my hair last year after two years of growing it out (it almost reached my butt), you do need to take care of it and keep it out of the way. You can’t just leave it down all the time like Kate does. She really likes her hair to billow around her all the time and it would look so much better pulled back in a ponytail or in a braid or just out of her face in general.

      • Erin says:

You are so right about her hair billowing around her lol. She has so much hair but does absolutely nothing with it. I’m not saying she needs an up do all the time but honestly, there are a lot of YouTube videos out there that can show you how to style king hair, take a look Kate.

    • Angie says:

She is such a contrast to how Meghan looks. The pic of Meghan today in the video shows her to be so modern and fresh. Her makeup and hair looks so lovely and fresh and modern looking. Kate in compression looks old and aged.

  4. Same empty handed visit different day and place. They don’t learn with all the supposed listening that they do. The only thing they do well is take period.

  5. Andrea says:

Kate wearing flats.. that’s all I got

    • Jais says:

Yeah, that was what I noted. A sensible choice, I guess? Although what does it matter what shoes she wears when she can’t even post how to donate let alone donate herself. So whatever.

    • Lux says:

They actually have a tiny heel. Ugh. Black cigarette pants with pointy black shoes is something she NEVER did before. Most annoying thing is if you cross your eyes, the silhouette looks so much like Meghan that it becomes depressing when you realize it’s not her. Approximation/appropriation of the original always feels cheap, even if it’s well executed.

  6. Lexistential says:

Empty gesture coming from an empty soul in an empty marriage.

Not surprised anymore, but by golly, none of her people at KP seem to read the room and change these horrible optics. SHOW UP WITH SOMETHING, RICH + PRIVILEGED WIGLET WOMAN.

  7. WHAT says:

She’s rolling up her sleeves. Something that she’s never done and wearing flats is something that she rarely does. Maybe 🤔 trying to make up for the picture and also Louis bday pics didn’t cause much of a stir. 🤔 Thinking you’ll see a lot of the 🧱 up until coronation so they can keep there names in the news 🗞️. You see 😏 the daily fail is salivating cause Meg has finally been seen.

  8. Amy Bee says:

Bringing a pack of diapers with her was such an easy thing to do. It’s interesting that she wore flats to this event. It’s not like she was going spend the day helping out.

  9. SAS says:

Like the flats, like the pants, the blazer is awful and does nothing for her colouring. The hair is… something else.

Please keep showing up empty handed Kate. Each meaningless visit literally pushes the monarchy closer to its end.

  10. Molly says:

How many horses were shaved to make that wig?

  11. girl_ninja says:

This fool is really copying Duchess Meghan’s trip to Harvest Home. Even the holding up of the baby onesie is what Meghan did. And how difficult would have been to take some of HER baby clothes AND ask her sister Pippa for some of her baby’s clothes have them cleaned and show up with them??? What is WRONG with this person?

  12. Becks1 says:

Lordy. these pictures are just so….cringe-y. And they shouldn’t be in theory – basic royal work, visiting a charity, making some chit chat, etc. But it really does seem cringe-y at this point. Kate is the epitome of “my presence is enough” and while that worked for the Queen, it doesnt work for this woman and her husband who are supposed to be the faces of a new way of royal work or are supposed to bring the monarchy into the 21st century or whatever else they say. Just showing up for an hour isn’t really enough anymore.

    • notasugarhere says:

The look of disdain on Kate’s face when she’s supposed to fold a piece of laundry. No folks, this is not a hands-on SAHM who does the daily work of keeping house, cooking, cleaning, or raising her own children.

Makes me appreciate the often OTT Maxima even more. She took on the job of being the lice check parent for their daughters’ school when they were younger.

  13. SquiddusMaximus says:

I have a really hard time with Kate “werking” and wearing her very long hair down. What that says to me is that she’s hardly moving at all — hair that long is not practical if you’re actually moving your body (don’t get me started on movies that showcase, like, female soldiers with their hair down).

So, yes. Yet another piece of evidence that Kate is not setting a good example by donating and working; she is there for a perfectly coiffed photo opp. Not cool.

You know who would have shown up ready to work? Yeah. We all know. The one who’s not afraid to wear a baseball hat and get down.

  14. MrsH says:

Empty handed. Empty brain. Empty heart.

    • KFG says:

She was there for what 30 mind, didn’t even tag the charity or a link to donation and wore 400k worth of jewelry and a shit wiglet. Kkkate is really creepy. At this point she should be seeing a psychiatrist bc this level of copying is beyond weird.

  15. Beach Dreams says:

Even with all that hyena grinning, there’s a touch of weariness to these pics. Must be tired from being thrown under the bus by Cams over the past month 🤭

  16. Dee says:

Arrived empty-handed, but she brought all the wiglets!

  17. Michelle says:

Everyone knows if you are posting on social media about a charity/non-profit, the FIRST thing you do is to LINK to their donation info, tell people how to give to the charity. That’s the first talking point.
Second is to show up with items the org needs (mentioned on the donation page) or a check. I’m a Gen Xer and I know this. How in the fresh hell do Kate/Peg not know this or care about this? Shining a light on the charities the royals visit is truly the ONLY reason for the visits!

KP if you’re reading this? In addition posting the basic info on social media? You should at a minimum post links on the royal family website with donation info for the visits W + K make. For the love of God, do something other than photo ops, y’all look like idiots when making 1-2 changes could do so much good. And more importantly for Will and Kate, it would improve perception of the nasty couple on the world stage. Seriously, it’s not hard.

    • TheWigletOfWails says:

They don’t because they know their “fans” are really Meghan haters and they’ll never donate to support their causes.

      • Feeshalori says:

Yes, they’re more united in their hate of Meghan rather than their love for Kate. Not once have they supported charities or done fundraising on the behalf of William and Kate.

      • notasugarhere says:

iirc they even begged SussexSquad members to donate to W&K charities – to prove SussexSquad weren’t W&K haters. LOL

  18. Bluenoser says:

I read it as “empty-headed” at first. Which also fits.

    * p.s. Kaiser: “Visit” is missing in the title.

  19. Digital Unicorn says:

Again nothing about how people can help this organisation – just the usual blurb embiggening kHate and PR damage control. I wonder how last minute this was as well – the last visit was also clearly last min.

Even Chuck puts his money etc.. where their mouth is – Chuck has on several occasions donated money to an organisation. And am not here for the ‘but they were told not to in case it took attention away from Chuck/Cams’ excuse.

  20. MSTJ says:

I have never said this before about Kate’s outings although I have seen several similarities equivalent to copying in past outings Kate has done but when I pulled up this story here and scrolled through the photos I immediately said, “No way, no way”. Why did I say that? Because in addition the Kate wearing flats and trousers, it looked like a replication of Meghan folding clothes and chatting with volunteers at the IWD volunteer event Meghan did in March. Literally last month. It seems like she is performing and posing to compete with Meghan. This brings to mind an apt quote “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”

  21. Beverley says:

The jazz hands again! And the gaping maw. Does she ever tire of displaying her tonsils?

  22. LB says:

It looks like Kate & William have been taking body language lessons or coaching. Noticed this in their restaurant photos last week too. More open handed gestures to show openness and relatability. More facial expressions and attempts at eye contact. Also more of them “doing” a few activities. They are trying not to look distant and stiff. It is not working because well, they are distant and stiff. It does not look natural. As is always stated here, they have had years in the job, and they should be experts by now with people and doing these engagements.

  23. Bklne says:

Sending hugs and love to Mary Pester today bc we know she’ll be reading.

Also – some of the previous comments gave me an idea: Mary Pester, is there an organization (cancer research, support, or something else close to your heart) that Celebitches could donate to in your honor?

  24. Lucylee says:

My suggestion to W and K is to take a check for 5000£ to each charity they visit and issue a challenge to the public (their fans) to match it in 24 hours.

  25. Harper says:

This looks just like the outfit she wore to Iceland the grocery store to mumble about the Arly Years. It’s very drab to me and I don’t care for white and creamy beige being paired together. She’s been repeating outfits in a way that makes me think her closet space at Adelaide is pretty small. Good thing she didn’t have to travel far for this visit; she must be literally exhausted after taking the train the other day after a month off. Rest up Princess Buttons, we know this world is too much for you.

  26. QuiteContrary says:

    1. Ask the nonprofit beforehand what its top three to five needs are. 2. Put together a box of those items. 3. Post a photo of the box on social media. Done.

Or explain what 3 things could be accomplished by a donation of say, 50 or 100 pounds. Make that donation.

Kate and her staff are so useless.

  27. Andrea says:

Just saw a video.. she seriously asked “what can be done to raise awareness of places like this”

    • notasugarhere says:

SMDH, Twelve years on the job and she still hasn’t gotten beyond the most basic, useless bullet point. You right there and your SM accounts, idiot, that’s what you’re there to do – raise awareness, be keen, ‘shine a light’ (another of her silly phrases).

    • KFG says:

They don’t need awareness, they need money and items. The eff. Copying a photo doesn’t make it meaningful.

  28. HennyO says:

Meghan helped setup a baby boutique in LA last month. and she took her Archewell staff with her to volunteer. That is an authentic and creative way to help expecting mothers and to do good at the same time, in light of a lifelong volunteering theme of her heart. As reported by Archewell Foundation, she made an Archewell donation too. I bet she has donated Archie and Lili’s baby clothes too, since ‘they are done’, kids wise (Harry: 2, that’s it).

Since Kate has only one working theme going for her solo – early years – I don’t understand why she doesn’t expand a bit more on the theme; take staff with her, take-up partnership /showup with partners from relatable courses. But then again, it’s lazy Kate (it’s all about her at these engagements, not about the cause), exhausted after 1 or 2 one hour appearances a week, to take weeks or months long breaks thereafter.

  29. Blue Nails Betty says:

What on earth are y’all talking about with the “she didn’t bring anything!” silliness? Kate brought Big Blue so the peasants could see Princess Diana’s engagement ring. Isn’t that reward enough?!?

    /allthedamnsarcasm

  30. tamsin says:

The royals always show up empty-handed. Their presence is their gift- it has always been that way. Meghan did something different by trying to make her visits and patronage impactful. That has not been the royal model. And remember the study of royal patrons- they virtually have no impact whatever on charities. I dare say, they cost charities money- since they used to have to give the royals flowers and whatnot when they visit.

    • HandforthParish says:

I was coming to say that! Royals never show up with things, they’re meant to be highlighting the cause/thanking workers.

  31. Jaded says:

It’s abundantly clear that Khate can’t keep professional people around to advise her, and that in her tiny brain she can’t compute that these organizations desperately need money, supplies, and links to their websites so people can donate. These are such simple things but she’s oblivious to the bad optics created by continuing to show up empty-handed. It’s simply a way of keeping herself in the tabloid headlines and playing “let’s dress like Meghan!”.

  32. jferber says:

Pretty hard-headed people. They’ve heard the message numerous times to “BRING SOMETHING” substantial when going to visit charities. They CLEARLY refuse to receive this message and bring nothing and this is infuriating. Khate copy-keens Meghan on everything else EXCEPT being CHARITABLE at a CHARITY. Let her compete with Meghan on the good she does, the philanthropy she exhibits, NOT her outfits, for God’s sake. Bitch, thy name is Kate.

  33. tamra says:

It is Spring! Please lighten up the colors! She is dressed for Fall !

  34. Flying fish says:

Kate and William just don’t get it. Stop showing up empty handed. It is a Baby Bank, why not show up with a bag full of baby clothing, it is not like she doesn’t have anything to give.

  35. beautifully broken says:

Kate has a botox bruise above her left brow.

  36. jferber says:

beautifully broken, Are you sure it’s a Botox bruise? I’ve gotten Botox many times and have never walked away with a bruise. And I go to a regular doctor, not a posh doctor like Kate no doubt has.

    • beautifully broken says:

I have gotten botox for over a decade and have had bruises exactly like that when I forgot to go off all blood thinners like baby aspirin before the injections. I go to a cosmetic surgeon to get my botox–he is pretty fancy.

  37. sparrow says:

I don’t know the protocol re donations from the BRF; she could have given something without it being made public, and potentially the answer would be that she gave her time and experience of early years. Which is a total, total laugh. She was there for barely any time at all, and charities gain little in the long term from these flying visits or even royal patronages. Also, these photos have been significantly tidied up from the ones I saw, wherein she looked a little more like her real self (ie knackered). What was most interesting were the BTL comments on the DM, which were hugely negative about her and the BRF. I can’t believe they got through. IMO sometimes the DM is asked by the palaces to get a true measure of their popularity and let the floodgates open to all commenters. At the moment there is concern that the coronation is not welcome and the BRF’s future is uncertain. They certainly didn’t get the groundswell of support they were probably hoping for from their heartland tabloid readers. I am positive the palaces requested a similar move when it was made public Charles wanted Camilla to be “Queen”. She has been a divisive figure here for obvious reasons, and the comments poured in and were largely indifferent. Charles must have been pleased.
