Wait, is Taylor Swift releasing a ‘surprise’ memoir this summer?

Taylor Swift writes a lot – she writes poetry, she writes lyrics and songs, and I would also assume that she’s a major journaler. It’s not a stretch to believe that Taylor would quietly write a memoir at some point. Especially these days – Taylor has spent the past six years or so mastering the art of selective hibernation. She goes away for months, works on her projects in almost total privacy and then gives her fans a finished product with very little notice. If Taylor were to publish a memoir, that’s exactly how she would do it too. Hence, the Snake Fam believes that Taylor has a memoir coming out in July.

The formula to a bestselling book is a mystery publishers have wrestled with for centuries. Now they may finally have their answer: encourage Taylor Swift fans to believe she may have written it. An untitled book, known only as “4C Untitled Flatiron Nonfiction Summer 2023” by a yet-to-be announced author has shot up sales charts in the US, after “Swifties” pieced together apparent clues and came to the conclusion that it could possibly be a memoir by the 33-year-old singer, who is known for peppering her songs with easter eggs that reward devout fans.

The mystery book from Flatiron, an imprint of publisher Macmillan, is available for pre-order for US$45 and has been hovering in the top 10 of the Amazon book sales chart, rising as high as No. 2. It is also currently No. 1 on Barnes & Noble’s pre-orders chart.

The pre-order rush began when a document purported to be from Flatiron began circulating on social media, which said that the title and author will be revealed on 13 June. The book is also said to contain 544 pages; and while that would make for a hefty memoir, Swift’s fans have noted that 5 + 4 + 4 = 13. Thirteen is – common knowledge among Swifties – the singer’s lucky number.

The mystery book was described in the document as a “biography or autobiography” that would feature 40 colour photos. It will have an initial print-run of one million copies and a global release date of 9 July: the huge number and short lead time suggest it will be a famous author.

The 9 July release date also matches the date mentioned in the lyrics of Swift’s song Last Kiss, a track on her third album Speak Now. Swift is set to re-release that album on 7 July, as part of her “Taylor’s Version” project to rerecord the six albums she made for the Big Machine label headed over by music executive Scooter Braun, a man whom Swift despises. Fans are also speculating that Swift’s decision to use “dear reader” in her announcement for the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was a clue that a book would follow.

On Tuesday, Variety said it “can report for certain that this mystery author is not, as rumoured, Taylor Swift”, adding that it was unlikely anyway given she is in the middle of a huge US stadium tour and about to release another album – “an excessive exercise in synergy even for someone as capable of project-multitasking as a Taylor Swift”, Variety’s Chris Willman wrote.

[From The Guardian]

Honestly, given Taylor’s love of Easter eggs, I’m actually convinced that this IS a Taylor Swift memoir, or at the very least, some kind of mild book she’s put together for fun. It all lines up and I trust that the Snake Fam has been making diagrams, keeping notes and putting all of the clues together. While it’s not my cup of tea, it’s amazing that Taylor encourages her fans to become amateur sleuths, Miss Marple-style, of all things in the Swift Cultural Universe. And really, if this isn’t Taylor, who else would justify a million copies of the first print??? Who has that kind of clout? Oh, sh-t, is it the Duchess of Sussex??!?!?!?

DeuxMoi claims it’s not Taylor and it’s an international music group. My money is on BTS! ARMY is gonna give the Swifties a run for their money every time

    • fineskylark says:

Agreed. This was my guess as well.

    • Jamie says:

Kate Kennedy (bethereinfive podcast) made a good argument for BTS on her instagram story. the dates (June 13, July 9) line up with important dates in BTS history.

    • TIFFANY says:

BTS would be the better guess as well. Their career is what this types of books are for. Taylor been born on third thinking she hit her trip her entire life and career.

    • Concern Fae says:

Yeah. Having a memoir of their pre-military service days makes sense and will help tide the ARMY over the year or so of no new content.

      • Natalie_K says:

It’s almost certainly BTS. June 13 is BTS’s 10th Anniversary, and the band usually celebrates with Festa, a week of activities and a dinner where they look back on their careers and toward the future and love on each other a bit as they tend to do. Last year’s was the infamous “hiatus” announcement (Hiatus? We don’t know her, I am still as broke and busy as ever) and this year’s will be difficult to celebrate fully with at least two if not more of the members serving their mandatory military service.

July 9th is considered ARMYs birthday, when the fanbase was officially named, so a book officially announced on June 13th and released on July 9th would be very meaningful and a great way to get to what will hopefully be a Festa 2025 reunion dinner.

Yeah it’s not Taylor. Reddit’s opinion is saying BTS. It is an interesting strategy though to be unnamed so close to the publication date.

    • Normades says:

BTS in hiatus is still so huge anything they touch is gold. I’m sure if it’s them they have everything very much planned out.
Also not enough kpop stars are included in the fashion posts! They are always the biggest stars at any event.

      • Peachy says:

Thank you for mentioning this, Normades! I love seeing the kpop stars at fashion events…they always look great!

The news about Dooce hit me hard. She was not perfect but she was real. I found her writing funny, raw, and very honest about anxiety and depression in a way that resonated with me at that time. She was a friend to me at a time I felt really alone. I’m sorry she’s gone and I hope she and her loved one find some peace.

    • Normades says:

I’m sorry. I mentioned her passing in the links post. I have a couple of friends who also took it pretty hard. She was raw and had a real voice. Take care // hugs

      • Jensies says:

Thank you, Normades. I realize I didn’t put this comment on the links page so I kinda dropped it on an unrelated things, so I especially appreciate you taking the time to comment and offer care.

      OMG WHAT

  4. Mash says:

I wouldn’t put it past her but I don’t think she’s at a memoir stage YET especially one at 544 pages

  5. February Pisces says:

Its way too soon for an autobiography from Taylor. If it is from Taylor book, it will be soft and nothing as heavy as an autobiography about her life. Something like behind the scenes of her life, with lots of pics and maybe song lyrics, and stories etc.

  6. Emily says:

I think Taylor is still actually early in her career (she’s been around forever but at a peak right now). A memoir seems premature, especially as she continues to re-release music. The only way I can see her doing a memoir is if she’s retiring.

It could be an Eras style retrospective with her career highlights, but nothing personal.

  7. theothermadeline says:

It’s 100% BTS based on the publishing gossip side of instagram

  8. Julez says:

I searched that cryptic title on Amazon, and it returned “Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS”.
