Harrison Ford teared up as he premiered the last Indiana Jones movie in Cannes

This year’s Cannes Film Festival really got off on the wrong foot, and now I’m really just… not interested in what’s happening there. When a film festival makes a point of platforming and praising a known abuser prominently on its opening night, it ruins the whole festival. That’s all I’ll say for now. Meanwhile, I’m shocked that they convinced Harrison Ford to fly out to France to premiere Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. That was the big premiere event last night – Harrison brought his wife Calista Flockhart, who wore Zuhair Murad, and all of the stars of the new Indy film came out too. Phoebe Waller-Bridge wore Schiaparelli Haute Couture (kind of boring, if you ask me). Mads Mikkelsen looked hot, but when doesn’t he look hot.

While the film got a standing ovation at Cannes, Variety noted that the reception for the film was actually pretty lukewarm. People have a great deal of warmth for an icon like Harrison Ford (and he was genuinely moved by the love he received in Cannes), but yeah… the early reviews for this are not great.

Some other fashion ladies at the Indy premiere: Gemma Chan wore Louis Vuitton, in what was a pretty typical look for this festival, and Karlie Kloss “showed off her bump” in a mustard-charteusey Dior. Bonus: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore an absolutely bonkers Sophie Couture look.

Everyone in these photos looks wonderful!
The gents in their tuxes, nice! All the ladies look wonderful in their gowns.
Mads is in this? Good news.

Harrison and Calista, what a great photo of them together.
This movie should print box office money, fans of IJ will see it.

There’s a great photo floating around social of Calista posing in her glam room and Harrison looking in the door and making goo goo eyes at her. It’s VERY sweet.

I don’t know what I expected from a relationship with those two, but good for them for finding each other and being so happy. They’ve been quietly together for over 20 years. That’s basically a lifetime in Hollywood.

So fun story Calista is really really nice. Years ago I was a lift operator in Jackson Hole and she was out skiing. We all knew it was her because of the ginormous men with her and she’s beyond tiny. It was a crappy inversion day and we were all bundled up but the tip of my nose was sticking out.

Next thing I know she’s saying I look too cold and gets one of her guys to go to the four seasons to get me a hot coco. On her next time around she checked up on me again and made sure I was getting a break inside because she was worried I was getting frost bite on my nose.

It went like that the whole day anytime she came through and saw me. It ended with my nose being rubbed to warm it up by her and her body guard giving me some of their extra hand warmers.

I’ve got some great stories from working there but that is my favorite.

Thanks for sharing. It’s nice to hear about people being considerate of other people.

Oh that’s lovely! I’ve always enjoyed her work. So nice to know that about her.

I actually came here to say I had to interview Harrison Ford once, during the ‘Fugitive’ era, and he was so unkind. Cold and angry and monosyllabic. I know he famously hated the publicity part of his job, but he took it out on a bunch of young reporters who were just trying to do their own jobs, and ultimately help promote his film. And Tommy Lee jones was even worse. So maybe Calista’s class and kindness has rubbed off on her husband. 🙂

That is a great story, thank you for sharing!

This is the swan song of the Raiders films, so I teared up a little bit too. Harrison Ford and Raiders is what made a very young me learn to write hieroglyphs. I was sure I would find the ark. Thank you Indy. ❤️

I can’t wait for this movie and i LOOOOVE Ford so much. He and Callista have a been together a looong time and they look fab together as always.

Also I can’t decide which Mikkelsen brother to stan – am soo excited to see Lars as a certain sneaky brilliant blue warlord. The fact that the 2 of them have been in the franchise makes me love them even more.

That Sophie Couture look on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is perfectly over-the-top for Cannes. Who is the gorgeous black woman in the header photo? She looks stunning. And PWB’s dress is a bit of a nothingburger compared to the rest and for Cannes.

    • DeeSea says:

@soapboxpudding “Stunning” is right! I had to look her up because I wanted to know too. Her name is Shaunette Renée Wilson.

I think PWB looks great (if a bit safe) from the knees up. I am allergic to bottom-of-dress poufs.

  6. TwinFalls says:

Harrison Ford is so charming despite himself lol. I’m excited for this movie.

That one outfit makes me think of Hershey Kisses, lol

    He’s the best.

  9. NJGR says:

I love Mads’s wife (you can see her peeking over Harrison’s shoulder in one photo) – she’s the same age as he is and clearly doesn’t feel she needs to prove anything to anyone.

    I love this couple

Saw HF on watch with Kelly and Mark and he’s so chill

  11. pyritedigger says:

Just rewatched the ‘first’ Star Wars movie the other day and Harrison Ford was so young and hot in it. (He’s good looking now, as an old man.) But the man just has ‘it.’

  12. ElleE says:

I was lucky enough to attend to function with Harrison Ford. They had a strict “no camera” rule, but the next day, each of us had an 8 1/2 x 11 black-and-white photo of HF on our desks, taken at the event, for the sole purpose of gifting it to our staff. I still have it (20 yrs on).

We were also not supposed to approach him – someone from my office actually did, and he was incredibly gracious, even though he knew she was breaking the rules (it was cringe).

  13. j.ferber says:

I don’t like him and never have.

  14. Skyblue says:

My random Harrison Ford story: A neighborhood friend’s dad went to Ripon College with him. As 12 year olds when Star Wars came out, we had so much fun looking for pictures of Harrison in the Ripon annuals.

  15. Normades says:

Don’t worry Kaiser. I’m in France and can tell you interest is at an all time low. No one is caring or talking about this festival. So has been and has been eclipsed by Venice for years.

  16. Mcmmom says:

I read yesterday that the reviews were actually pretty good – it’s not Raiders, but nor is it Crystal Skull and the CGI was good enough to not warrant a mention.

I will see it in the theater, hopefully with my sons. I was/am such an Indy fan and I can’t wait.

    • SarahCS says:

That’s a relief. My friend and I are really looking forward to it. We’ll see it whatever the reviews say but it’s a plus when the film is decent!
