Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds seen in costume on the set of Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman attempted to break Nerd Internet the other day by posting a picture of the two of them in costume on the set of Deadpool 3 to their Insta Stories, with the caption, “Don’t Blink.” This was a big deal to X-Men comic book fans because the picture showed Jackman in a more comic book-accurate(ish) Wolverine costume. Fans have been asking to see a yellow spandex’ed Wolverine since the first X-Men movie came out in 2000. We also got to see paparazzi pics from the set.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are suited up for Marvel.

As Reynolds, 46, and Jackman, 54, both posted a still image of themselves in character as Deadpool and Wolverine to their respective Instagram Stories on Monday, the pair were spotted filming scenes for the movie in London.

The photos show Reynolds completely immersed in his red-and-black Deadpool costume, while Jackman appears as his longtime X-Men series lead Logan / Wolverine in a bright yellow jumpsuit with blue accents. In one snapshot, Jackman donned sunglasses and could be seen smiling as he and Reynolds chatted, while another image showcased Logan getting angry — with CGI claws presumably on the way.

The new Wolverine look shows off a costume that more closely resembles the character’s comic book origins than what Jackman often wore across his past nine onscreen appearances as the character.

“Don’t blink,” both men simply wrote as a caption to their respective Instagram Stories, including small animations of their characters below the photo as well.

Okay, so Deadpool is supposed to finally be joining the expanded Marvel Cinematic Universe in its third movie. The Marvel movies have been struggling in their new, post-Avengers phase on all levels – they’re too long, the stories are too convoluted, they’re losing viewers who didn’t watch the Disney+ series to understand certain character progression, etc. Remember all 2.5 hours of The Eternals? Neither does the MCU!

Deadpool 3 seems to be pulling out all of the stops – Jennifer Garner has been confirmed to return as Electra and there are rumors of cameos or appearances from Ben Affleck, Halle Berry, and other X-Men actors. Throwing fans a bone with the yellow costume (sans blue trunks) is a fun way to get the core comic book audience talking about it. Reynolds and Jackman are fun actors with good-natured reputations, and they give good PR. So far, the biggest controversy I’ve seen online has been fans arguing over whether or not we’ll see Jackman rip off those sleeves and give us the full comic book Wolverine bicep glory. I’ve been somewhat “meh” on Marvel movies lately, but the hype around Deadpool 3 has me a bit excited to see what else they have up their, er, sleeves.

Deadpool 3 is set to open in theaters on May 3, 2024.

    This looks kinda fun.
Love Hugh Jackman. I wish his performance in Oklahoma! was on DVD, it was wonderful.
I enjoy musicals and they are rare these days.
Hugh sings, dances, acts, can do comedy which is rare too.

I give RR credit, that man is a worker bee!
He has been hustling Deadpool for years. Found his niche I guess.

If this comes to streaming, free eventually, I’d watch it.

Never watched a Deadpool but Hugh Jackman is making me want to go. The look on his face in the mean scene seems worthwhile.
Writing about worthwhile Indian Jones and the dial of destiny was great. I saw it in imax, liemax(wasn’t full imax screen). It really showed well. The chase scenes was rich and colorful. If you can’t see, the sounds transport you there. Very well done movie. First Indiana Jones movie I have watched all the way.

They don’t ever give me the tingles. Ever. But those costumes are doing something to me and I feel weird saying that. While also enjoying it!! Back to the costumes…. I mean photos…

The yellow of his costume isn’t quite as bad as it is in the comics (don’t get me wrong I love Wolverine).
It’s a bit more muted, and less crash test dummies?
But the cameos make sense, they’ve been doing it in all the Deadpool movies and I’m legitimately excited about seeing some of my former faves!
