Last night was the London premiere of Nine, the musical spectacular starring Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Fergie and Sophia Loren. Everybody but Sophia, Marion and Fergie showed up for the big premiere, and there was some amazingly sketchy fashion happening. I’ve never really realized it before, but Kate Hudson’s fashion sense is really hit-or-miss, isn’t it? She either really gets it right, or she looks terrible. Now, I don’t really think Kate looks horrible here, she just looks overdressed, cold and uncomfortable. The dress would have been stunning on someone like Nicole Kidman, but it doesn’t look right on Kate:
Meanwhile, Nicole kind of underdressed. A simple yet gorgeous white suit with a short pleated skirt. It looks very summery, doesn’t it? She looks really cold too. I bet she wished she would have opted for a smart pantsuit. Oh, and the closeup of Nicole’s face is really frightening. I think she got a little “extra” put into her face for the premiere. Yikes.
Now, I love some Daniel Day-Lewis, but the man has been dressing like a spaghetti-western extra ever since he did There Will Be Blood. What’s strange is that the costumes for that film looked nothing like the kind of costume-y apparel Daniel favors. Still, I love him. He’s lovely and interesting to look at.
I swear I’ve seen Penelope wear this exact same dress before. If memory serves, it was about ten years ago, it was Versace, and it was to… the Golden Globes, maybe. In any case, it’s a pretty dress. Penelope’s fashion sense tends to go for the princess-y. Which is fine. It’s just not my taste. But her hair and makeup looks great.
And last but certainly not least in any way, we have Judi Dench. Do you know how much I love Judi? I love her so much I forgive this fug baby-puke color. You know why? Judi is so f-cking fabulous, she pulls it off rather well. The color looks great, and it really pops against her beautiful white-blonde hair. Lovely.
Yeah… my pick for best dressed is Judi. Penelope loses points for wearing either the same dress, or nearly the same dress. Kate loses points for looking so uncomfortable. Nicole loses points for her face. All in all… a great red carpet!

Daniel Day-Lewis is one handsome man. All I can say about Kidman is, Jaysus, if you really want some more meat on your face, eat a freakin’ hamburger every now and then. It’s cheaper and a lot less harmful than Botox.
I think Kate looks great! Nicole Kidman seems so…unhappy.
Dame Judi looks great!
Before my usual barrage of negativity, I just want to say that I can’t wait to watch this film, because it’s going to be FANTASTIC. Of that, I have no doubt.
Anyway, I think that you’re right, Kaiser: Kate Hudson’s dress is amazing, but she isn’t tall and sylph-like enough to pull it off. It makes her look short and stocky, when she isn’t stocky.
I tend to dislike Penélope Cruz’s rather horrible fashion sense. She tends to go for the flashiest thing she can find, with a touch of classicism to avoid being openly called tacky. That dress looks like someone emptied a saucepan full of boiled spinach of her. Ugly as hell.
As for Daniel Day-Lewis, he is a fantastic actor, but he should wear glasses before getting dressed for public events. It might help him to actually choose proper clothes, instead of a collection of horrors from the 70’s.
Still, I rather like Nicole Kidman’s dress. It’s very simple and the tightness of the starchy crepe jacket matches the tightness of her forehead, so she went perfect for the occasion.
As for Judy Dench, she looks gorgeous in that Alexis Carrington-styled dress. She is one of the few women I’ve seen pull off that look, so good for her!
Nicole does look sort of unhappy, doesn’t she? I wonder if it’s the bloodshot eyes doing it. Whatever she’s done to her face this time, I beg her to just stop. I love she’s gone back to the red hair (LiLo, I’m lookin’ at you!), but her cheeks look so huge and shiny and now her lower lip looks big.
I’m with you, Kaiser. I’ve got nothing but love for Dame Dench. She’s a tiny little thing, isn’t she? I guess that’s why she looked normal-sized with my man-crush, Daniel Craig, a midget himself. 🙂

I don’t know why exactly, but I can’t find Nicole beautiful anymore. In recent years, she became so weird looking.
Is it just me or Penelope gained some weight? I usually like her style, but I’m not feeling that dress at all.
Kate Hudson is not aging well. She was so fresh and cute back in 2000. Now she looks so…old? And the funny thing is that she’s not old at all.
Daniel looked gorgeous, but I don’t know if I appreciate his wacky sense of style. I wouldn’t mind if he wore some normal clothes once in a while.

I swear I’ve seen Penelope in a similar dress too! I think Kate’s dress would of looked better on Nicole, she’s got the height to pull it off. Love Dame Judi Dench.
Nicole is towering over everyone else in the group photo! I know she is fairly tall but those shoes must be adding a good six inches to her height!
Otherwise everyone looks great and I can’t wait to see the movie!
I like wrinkles-just not on me. Fortunately, my work doesn’t require me to look like 20 something. If I had the money you bet yor a… that all of my wrinkles would be gone.

I think Nicole looks strange (and unhappy) is trying to control a massive shivering attack. She has no extra flesh on her to keep her warm and that outfit is definitely out of season.
Kate Hudson tries so hard to be adorable. She is really so old news and looks so old. She is washed out and that dress looked like a wedding cake on her. She needs a make over. She is getting a little fat. Sorry but it is so noticable when you have big hips and a small chest.Also the white number did nothing for her bland coloring. If it were on a beautiful brunette or fab. blond it might have been better.She just looked tired and washed out. Sorry!
