Offset gave Cardi B three rare Hermes Birkin bags for her 31st birthday

Cardi B is a huge fashionista. She loves nothing more than flying to Paris to attend the fashion week shows. Designers love her and send her free clothes, plus she works with many designers to create custom pieces. Something I love about Cardi is that she’s not a major-label fanatic. Sure, she loves Chanel, Hermes, Gucci, etc. But she’ll pop out on a red carpet in more offbeat and lesser-known labels too.

Anyway, Cardi’s 31st birthday was on the 11th, and her husband Offset took her out to dinner and lavished her with gifts. Cardi has a huge purse collection and like many wealthy women, she collects Hermes Birkin bags. She’s been collecting them for years, basically ever since she started making money. At one point, critics claimed that Cardi’s collection “devalued” the Birkin cachet, and she had a lot to say about that. In any case, Offset gave her three rare, expensive Birkins for her collection.

Cardi B celebrated her 31st birthday in style Wednesday, unwrapping three new Hermès bags collectively worth close to half a million dollars from her husband, Offset, as the couple partied at West Hollywood hotspot Delilah.

Offset, 31, documented his wife’s bash on his Instagram Stories, filming as the “WAP” singer — clad in a plunging red lace gown — was presented with a stack of three of the French fashion house’s signature orange boxes.

Cardi B squealed as she opened the first, which contained a hot pink crocodile Kelly bag; a similar style recently sold for close to $92,000 on 1stdibs. But her next purse blew the first out of the water. As she shimmed to the strains of Madonna’s “Vogue,” Cardi unboxed an extremely rare Faubourg Birkin — often called the “House Birkin,” as it’s modeled after Hermès’ Paris storefront on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. One of the purses is currently listed on 1stdibs for a staggering $298,975.

“My favorite!” Cardi screamed upon unwrapping the unique carryall, joking, “I don’t even think I’m ready to see the other one.”

Offset suggested she “take a shot” before opening her last box, which housed a glossy gold-colored crocodile Birkin. A similar version sold at a Christie’s auction in 2020 for $72,000, bringing the total value of Cardi’s birthday gifts to approximately $462,975.

The “House Birkin” is incredible, and I’ve never even seen photos of it. I love that Offset was filming her reactions and he found so much enjoyment in watching her unwrap her gifts. Like, I think Offset is a cheater and a manipulative prick, but you know what? They adore each other and it’s fine. I mean, it will probably end in tears at some point, but they enjoy the hell out of each other right now. Happy birthday to the Libra Queen!

maybe I’m not rich enough to understand… 1 bag, any bag as present is good, but 3 is overkill. It’s like opening 25 gifts for a kid at xmas, looses the heart value.

That seems the way with the mega-wealthy, everything has to be OTT. Look at the Kardashians and their flower displays that fill an entire (massive) room).

On the plus side, these are hardly likely to devalue and while I don’t see her wealth going anywhere you never know. Was it Christina Ricci who sold her jewellery (??) to fund her divorce? I own a couple of designer bags (nowhere near these price tags) and I joke that they are my retirement savings.

Spending nearly half a million dollars on bags in gross. Plus that bag is ugly AF. I mean; there are hundreds/thousands/millions of children living in poverty. But sure. Buy your bags….

Stop controlling wealthy, non white people money. Got it? Good.

@Tiffany – louder for the folks in the back!

I totally agree. I think frivolousness in its most extreme form simply becomes immoral.
In my opinion, the only way I could justify spending 500k on purses, is if I donated 500k to a worthy cause at the same time.

There’s nothing wrong with a person enjoying the fruits of one’s labor, and there is nothing inherently wrong with being ultra wealthy. But to me, it IS inherently wrong to have so much, and then do very very little to help the less fortunate. Brad pitt and jeff bezos comes to mind.
And to be clear, I don’t know how much or little Offset and Cardi B give to worthy causes, it could be that 500k in purses is totally justified by their donations.

Anybody remember the Miche bag, that MLM company whose concept was a plain handbag with nearly infinite exchangeable covers? Back like 15 years ago? Targeted at the suburban middle class mom?

Both bags shown in this article give that vibe.

Me too! #bardigang lol. And boo to the racist “critics” who try and claim the devaluing idiocy. I often wonder if I had so much disposable income what I’d buy in a similar situation? A Jeeves type person would be great.

If I had a wife as hot as Cardi, I’d lavish her with ridiculously expensive swag too. Happy birthday, Cardi!

That pink bag was so pretty! Birkins are not my style, but I could force myself to carry one (my birthday’s coming up…).

If useless out of date royals can have crowns, tiaras and endless jewelry, I guess we can have over hyped, over priced bags
