The Windsors are increasingly frustrated ‘that Charles won’t just fix things’

As I tweeted over the holiday weekend, one of the overarching themes of Omid Scobie’s Endgame is that King Charles and his heir are two of the worst managers in history. Say what you will about Queen Elizabeth II – and all of us could say a lot – but she understood how to balance family squabbles with the actual work of the institution. Yes, she had ostrich-syndrome and all of that, but the sheer fact that she maintained good contact with both Prince Harry and Meghan should tell you that she didn’t hold an “institutional grudge” against them. She saw them as her beloved grandson and his beloved wife. Charles is incapable of managing that family/institution drama, as is William. According to Page Six’s excerpts, people within the family have even spoken to Charles about how he needs to be the one to reconcile with Harry.

Members of the British royal family are allegedly getting fed up with King Charles III’s reluctance to reconcile with his youngest son, Prince Harry. In an advance copy of “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival” obtained by Page Six, journalist Omid Scobie spoke to several sources about the Duke of Sussex’s turbulent past few years.

While Harry and Markle have allegedly made several attempts to reconnect with their estranged family members, it seems Charles and others across the pond won’t budge.

“It’s complex, but there’s increasing frustration from some of the wider circle of family members that Charles won’t just fix things for the sake of everyone,” a royal source claimed to Scobie.

Meanwhile, a friend of Harry’s claimed the royal reached out to Charles to wish the family a Merry Christmas in 2022 after his father refused to make the first move, another excerpt from the book claims.

“It was an awkward conversation, but he knew if he didn’t make those first steps, there would never be any progress,” the pal explained of Harry’s decision to reach out to his father. “There were no raised voices, no arguments … but the King was cold and brief rather than open to any proper dialogue.”

Elsewhere in the book, Scobie alleged “both the institution and the family” were still struggling to “come to grips with [the] fact” that Harry, 39, and Markle, 42, have found success in their endeavors after leaving the UK.

“I’ve watched Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace repeatedly get worried about being upstaged and derailed by the couple, and leak negative information on Harry and Meghan … during moments that could easily be focused on genuine royal news instead,” the controversial journalist wrote.

[From Page Six]

I’ve made this point before, but do you ever just step back from the daily royal soap opera and think about how f–king bonkers it is that Charles hasn’t found a way to cauterize this PR bleed? We know that Charles’s actions from 2018-2020 were all attempts at managing, silencing and punishing the Sussexes, and bringing them “to heel.” That was his goal in 2020 – but when that didn’t happen, why hasn’t he changed or updated his strategy? Why is this 75-year-old man – a whole-ass KING – still somehow incapable of merely hearing out Harry and/or apologizing?

lol. I am laughing at the “controversial journalist”. They are adding this to anything M&H (the controversial book / documentary / couple) and now poor Omid got it too. Like, there is Angela Levin still making money talking sh*t about M&H, implying their children are not real, but when you go out-of-script and criticize wrong people, you get “controversial” attached to your name.

  2. Andy Dufresne says:

    One reason: Camilla

    • ArtHistorian says:

Also: Charles is an abusive person who doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong.

I think there’s something profoundly wrong with him – and that he has also surrounded himself with people who manipulate him and encourage his worst instincts. I’m not just talking about Camilla but also members of his senior staff. Harry said it when he focused on Charles’ Private Secretary (the Wasp).

    • SarahLee says:

Bingo! Also at this point – we know Harry has reached out. We know that for whatever reason, he still seems to love his shitty father. I don’t even know if Charles would have to apologize. I think a “Darling boy, I love you and I always will. Can we find a way back to each other?” would suffice.

      • Kingston says:

        @SarahLee
Only someone with no concept of the kind of love that exists between a husband and wife who truly embody the essence of such a union would say that they dont believe Harry means it when he says, more than once, on global platforms as well as thru his book and interviews, that: THERE WILL BE NO TALKS ABOUT FAMILIAL RECONCILIATION UNLESS AND UNTIL CHUCKY AND BULLY APOLOGIZE TO MY WIFE AND ACCEPT ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THEIR ROLE IN THE ABUSE METED OUT TO HER.

Harry builds and maintains relationships with heads of states of many nations, with many such heads of states having values that H doesnt agree with. I’m sure I dont have to explain that this is all in the service of the goals of his organization, INVICTUS GAMES & INVICTUS FOUNDATION.

With chucky, the issue is 3-fold because not only is chucky head of state of the uk, theres also the fact that chucky is his father AND the head of the arcane institution to which Harry is still technically attached (until such time as it is no longer tenable.) But theres a world of difference between being courteous to chucky and being palsy-walsy with him.

Theres a very good reason why H&M did not allow Archie to return to england in those early days: during that 2-day return from Canada in Jan 2020 and their farewell week in March 2020; as well as anytime since taking both kids to be intro to betty (June 2022), knowing that she was virtually on her death bed.

They have never and, I believe, will never take their kids back there UNLESS AND UNTIL CHUCKY AND BULLY APOLOGIZE TO MY WIFE AND ACCEPT ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THEIR ROLE IN THE ABUSE METED OUT TO HER AND THE QUESTION OF THEIR SECURITY IS RESOLVED TO H&M’s SATISFACTION.

    • SURE says:

Agreed and maintaining H&M as the media villians prevents C&C and WanK from becoming the new villains.

    • Chloe says:

He’s unwilling to apologize because that would be an admittance of all crimes committed. You don’t apologize for things you claim you haven’t done

      • Aries 48 says:

@Chloe – I believe you also don’t pay someone you’ve never met, millions for a crime you didn’t commit. It is the Royal Family, however, so someone should remind Chucky that anything is possible.

    • Ginger says:

Yup. Levin is Camillla’s authorized biographer. What Levin says is fine by Camilla.

    • Sunday says:

Don’t get me wrong, I am in NO way defending Camilla, but I don’t want to fall into the misogynistic trope of blaming the woman. Yes, Camilla is a scheming, manipulative jackal (IMO with literal blood on her hands), and yet if Charles as the freaking KING can’t out-maneuver or sideline his own consort for the good of the monarchy in general and his own reign in particular then ultimately the fault lies in his utter failure as heir, as King, and as a father. His failure picking an adultery partner is on the list, but it’s not first.

    • Sportie says:

Yes, and ….. he’s never ever had to. It worked with Diana and voila eventually Camilla is tolerated, then accepted, house & security paid for, then part of the family, then will be Queen but not quite and the coup de grace she is full fledge Queen and her entire family is on the balcony and some are even given positions. Final blow is she gets all this but doesn’t have to even do the minimum work that the job entails.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Definitely Camilla, AND Peg. KC is now king but he still cannot handle a confrontation with his raging son. I wonder if Peg ever threatened him physically, too. KC is manuvering between doing what Camilla whispers in his ear and avoiding Peg’s rage.

      • VADER says:

In one of the many books about the royals, there was something about how cowmilla was shocked at how willy screamed at chucky. I wouldn’t be surprised if he threatened him.

    • EasternViolet says:

Yup. this is who is calling the shots at BP and Charles is happy to be controlled.

  3. acha says:

Without fixing this, KFC is putting a stake in the heart of the commonwealth. It’s interesting that one man’s tiny personality is going a far way to dissolve the UK.

  4. He is morally bankrupt so he wouldn’t know what to do to fix anything. He only knows what he wants period. You say or do something he doesn’t like then off with your head even if it’s the truth. Introspection will never be on Chuckles list of things to do especially when so many are willing to kiss his sorry ass.

  5. Beverley says:

Three reasons Charles can’t/won’t move forward:
    1) Meghan is half Black. Harry must be punished for bringing mixed-race children into the line of succession.
    2) Harry and Meghan left. They were supposed to stay and be willing scapegoats for abuse. How dare they leave AND prosper!
    3) H&M told the truth about the Leftovers and exposed some of their disgusting bile to the world.

    Charles can’t forgive that.

    • Chloe says:

I hate to even do this but I honestly feel like Camilla is the main one who takes issue with meghan’s ancestry. Her and william.

      • SURE says:

Also I think that like K, C’s issue with M stems from her own lack of professional achievements.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Chloe: A man who questions the background of a woman of Pakistani descent would have a problem with Meghan’s background. He’s not innocent in this and he didn’t want Harry to marry Meghan.

      • Robert Phillips says:

Camilla wanted her family in with the royals. She can’t get rid of William because he’s the heir. But she could get rid of the spare. So she did. And now within a year of the Queen passing her family is invited to Christmas with the King. If Harry had stayed you know he would be proving to Charles what a conniver she is. So he had to go.

  6. Ace says:

I think it must have played a part in the way Liz dealt with her family apart from the Firm that she had Phillip beside her, who by all accounts was the one mostly dealing with family issues. She was probably fucked up in a different way that Chuck was because she became heir in a different way and probably was treated differently because of that, which I’m sure also affected how she saw her family as somway different than the monarchy itself.

Meanwhile Chuck has Camilla, who doesn’t give a shit about his family and has always known how to “manage” him.

There will never be an approach between Harry and his father. Even if Chuck realised he fucked up, which he never will because he’s been raised to believe he can’t fuck up, neither the evil stepmother nor the jealous older brother will let it happen. The only thing I wish for Harry is to find peace with it and let it go.

  7. Em says:

All the Windsor men are very dim with overblown egos including Harry ( it’s not a personal fault but due to their upbringing) that’s why I believe most decisions everyone of them make are largely influenced by other people ( courtiers, wives, close friends, mistresses) etc and that brings me to my point. The problem with Charles is Camilla, who is the very personification of discord, strife and ugliness ( it shows in her face as well), she succeeded in gaining access to the Windsor clan through Tampon Charles, busied herself with trying to clean up her image as an adulterer, neglecting her step children and using them as tabloid folder till now, all the while securing the future of her own children and grandchildren, getting her foolish husband to set up funds for his step children while kicking his own blood from the renovated servant quarters, right under his big ears she has installed herself and her children right in that family, while cutting Charles off from both Harry and William esp Harry.

Charles who famously has someone brush his teeth cannot sit down and think of how he’s the only sibling whose children are in discord, he can’t look at Anne , Edward , Andrew who have gone length’s including criminal ones to provide for their children while he banished the only son that remotely cared for him.

    • 809Matriarch says:

I never thought of that. Charles is the only child of Elizabeth & Phil who has children that are estranged. Even wacky Andrew & Fergie have daughters who love & support each other. The only difference is the influence of that dreadful Camilla.

  8. lanne says:

well, well, well. If it isn’t the consequences of one’s own actions coming home to roost! The royals are idiots that can’t see beyond the ends of their noses. They swore that Harry and Meghan couldn’t succeed away from the royals. Harry and Meghan are just fine. In fact, just as many of us predicted, the Sussexes have pulled focus from the royals so completely that all Meghan has to do is step outside their home and she gets media attention.

The royals are responsible for this mess, and they are too stupid to see it. The world has changed and they don’t know it. The royals aren’t the be-all and end all anywhere in the world, not even in the UK. The royals look racist, petty, ineffectual, and out of touch, and the only reason they have kept their crowns is due to inertia and enchrenchment. They are unable to succeed on their own merits and in fact, they seem to have no message for their monarchy other than, “It’s my turn to be king, damnit!” There’s no message of service, or unity, or national identity. It’s just “me, me, me.”

But ultimately, even beyond the racism and laziness of the royals, that they hate most about Harry and Meghan is that Harry and Meghan make them look bad. They are better at “royaling” than the royals. Will-di Amin is going to destroy his reign before it even begins because of his jealousy and desire to one-up his brother. They are a sad, toxic, lot or narcissists clinging to a past that no longer exists.

Their only currency is proximity–they need people to want to be close to them, to find them aspirational. If they lose that (and they are losing it fast) they lose their world stage, no matter what else.

No one is choosing to spend time with the Sussexes because they want to be granted entrance to Buckingham Palace. What happens if no one (outside of Maga Brexiteers) wants to be seen with them? Who are they outside of hating Meghan and blaming her for the problem they created themselves when they tried so hard to marginalize Harry? What happens when more and more people come to realize that Harry’s a much better man than his brother or father will ever be?

  9. 809Matriarch says:

I believe the wider family is also frustrated with Chuck’s inability to compartmentalize his relationship with Cammy from the Institution. Elizabeth was very much Monarch. There were clear lines of demarcation from her role & Philip’s input. Chuck is so under Seabiscuit’s thumb that he is allowing her feelings to erode all his blood ties.

He is more emotionally attached to his grown azz stepchildren than he is with his own son & grandkids. Willy was a driving force behind Sussexit but Cammy with her J Clarkson, P Morgan & A Levin trifecta of evil nearly killed Meghan & Archie. His being in Thrall to the person WWII called that wicked woman is destroying his family & legacy. This is what I think has the family frustrated.

  10. Lauren says:

There’s a good video that keeps making the rounds on twitter of a Scottish guy, at some type of TV debate, providing reasons to abolish the monarchy. One thing he points out is that Charles would never be elected into the position of head state, his role has nothing to do with his personal merits. Even if you followed the Cambodian model and elected the monarch from within the family, Charles isn’t winning.

  11. Chrissie says:

These are all horrible abusive and racist people. It’s just a question of degree. They are awful to Harry, the best of them, but also to each other. But ultimately Charles is king. This is all down to him and the result of his weakness. When the monarchy falls, the rot will traced back to him. P.s big Thank you to Kaiser for her updates. Keep them coming.

  12. paintybox says:

I suspect he only listens to Camilla on this issue, who of course would give seriously sh*tty advice re: how to deal with the non-heir son. He let her take Harry’s bedroom to turn into her closet and they had her family all over the coronation stage while they weren’t even speaking to Harry and insultingly had made it clear that Meghan wasn’t even welcome. Chuck continues to make such vindictive moves that it would be like turning the Titanic for him at this point. Harry & Meghan landed on Camilla’s sh*tlist and nothing will improve as long as she wants them there. The punishment will go on ….

    • Amy Bee says:

According to Omid, Charles listens to Anne who advised that he evict Harry and Meghan from Frogmore.

      • Athena says:

Anne? Who has an apartment at St. James palace that she lets her kids use. Whose children have houses on her estate told Charles to kick his son and daughter in law out of their U.K. home and he agreed? What a messed up family.

  13. Lightpurpleii says:

If Anne is the one giving eviction orders, who is the one frustrated with Charles? Edward?

  14. Concern Fae says:

But Charles has always been like this. He gets an idea in his head, that made sense at one point, but keeps going with it even when it no longer makes sense. See: downsizing the monarchy. Good idea in the 80s-90s, but he never looked at the work that would need doing and how that could be balanced among the available family members. It was just “downsize good.” That has turned out to be an utter disaster, not helped by the fact that the problem is as much about houses as people, and he keeps adding houses to his inventory.

Royal family members “earning their own keep” is another one. Nice idea, but completely divorced from what jobs actually pay and how much it costs to keep up a royal lifestyle. It’s become an excuse for Charles to keep all the money and not support the rest of the family like he is supposed to.

  15. Jaded says:

Charles won’t “fix things” because Camilla has him by the short and curlies. He’s so much of a wimp that he can’t/won’t make decisions on his own about his own family, he let’s her take the lead on everything related to the Sussexes. However his dependence on Camilla is a double-edged sword because his constant missteps, his flagrant disregard for his own son, DIL and grandchildren, only reinforce his weakness and utter lack of humanity.

  16. JaneS says:

If Charles was good at being King, a job he has been training for his entire life, he would never have let this entire situation go to hell the way he has.
    PR nightmare 25x over.

IRL, this happens a lot. Families try to hold things together until the parents pass.
Then, no reason to keep up the phoniness. Adults. Too much has happened between them to patch things up.
    H&M are out, doing fine.
C&C, W&K are all in on keeping their sense of “We are the chosen ones” Fools.

William will become the most work shy, lazy, spoiled rotten, unbearable King in memory when his time comes. If it comes. I feel sympathy for G, C, L.

  17. Brassy Rebel says:

Only Charles alone can fix it! (Couldn’t resist.)

  18. Amy Bee says:

Charles believes that Harry should go through the same thing he did and he doesn’t understand why Harry was unwilling to put up with the abuse anymore. Plus, with Harry away he thinks the press will focus on him and Camilla. That hasn’t worked out yet.

  19. Lady Digby says:

If some of the Windsors are discontented now, wait until The Incredible Sulk gets to be King. He will be sulking, shouting, shoving, smearing, evicting, banning and binning but absolutely no tangible work will be done.

  20. Sunday says:

I mean, I think it’s rather obvious why Charles can’t just fix things – because he’s not the one driving them. Of course as the king the buck ultimately stops with him. But also, he can’t “just fix things” because it’s not him refusing to give up the fight, it’s Will. Camilla is evil and racist but she’s not stupid, she’d be happy to put on a polite face in public and simply snipe from the sides if she thought it necessary for the monarchy (read: her) to survive. Kate could be bought off with a brown bag stuffed with £2 million pounds dropped off in Bucklebury. Andrew, Edward and the rest of them are so far on the sidelines that even the rota forgets they exist. It’s William. William won’t see reason, William won’t give up the fight, William has the most to lose if the whole truth comes out and he’s going to keep clawing his way to keep up his one-sided fight with Harry even if he drags the entire monarchy down with him. And again, Charles is powerless to “just fix things” because ultimately he is a failure as monarch and as a father. Incapable of even hiring anyone who knows better, weak, jealous, desperate to be loved by the people while being so painfully out of touch that he seems alien at times. No, if someone finally brings down Will, it’s definitely not going to be Charles.

    • Smart&Messy says:

I agree. It is Peg who won’t budge, while I think K and C have realized that they need to change tack in the H and M PR war. KC is short sighted, but he has Cam to put 2and2 together. Peg is absorbed in defeating H. He must win at all costs, and sees no reason. KC is too weak to reign him in. It will all go down between Peg and Cam. Keen could be the only one benefitting from this, because Peg has no time and bandwidth to divorce her.

  21. JCallas says:

Charles hates Meghan. He was the one who personally banned her from Balmoral and leaked it to the press. He will never reconcile as long as they’re still married.

  22. Deering24 says:

“Scobie alleged “both the institution and the family” were still struggling to “come to grips with [the] fact” that Harry, 39, and Markle, 42, have found success in their endeavors after leaving the UK.”

    Hee. Wonderful, ain’t it?

  23. Advisor2U says:

I think Harry is trying too hard and expects too much from his shitty family. He should let it go for a while. At least after all his five courtcases are done, about three years or so. Harry must except that the time and climate are not ripe for all this pushing and trying,
Why? Loveless Charles doesn’t feel the need to, right now and ‘hurt’ Camilla is blocking him from reaching out as well. And dumb dumb Willy has the clueless people in his court and the media full of vile snakes whispering in his ears to cut all contact with his brother.
