Taylor Swift tipped Gillette Stadium food runners with $100 bills

Taylor Swift has gone to Travis Kelce’s last three games with the Chiefs. That woman had to watch her boyfriend lose in Green Bay, and then in the next week, she watched him lose to the Bills at home in Kansas City. This past Sunday, Taylor flew to Boston and the Chiefs finally got a win over the Patriots. Taylor seemingly enjoyed her time at Gillette Stadium, and it looked like many Boston-area Swifties came out to the game specifically to see Tay. It also looks like Taylor has gotten a handle on the football-WAG life in the VIP suites, especially with all of the food that’s brought in. There’s a photo circulating on social media of Taylor tipping food runners – and she’s using $100 bills.

On social media, there are constant debates about America’s tipping culture versus European restaurant culture, in which there is little in the way of tipping or mandatory gratuity. I get that wait staff in American restaurants are getting screwed over by not being paid a baseline living wage, but I also think that American tipping culture is sometimes a good thing. There are a lot of people who like to show their appreciation for hard service-industry work with generous tips. It’s cool that Taylor Swift is one of those people. It makes me wonder about how often she’s out and about in New York as well – this year, she’s been hitting up hotspots and cool Manhattan restaurants every week. Is she tipping well and that’s why we never hear any gossip from those restaurants?

Apparently she really loves playing here at Gillette. And her Mass fans LOVE her.

  2. Kitten says:

I mean, she *should* be generous with her massive wealth, particularly if the people serving her a doing a great job. All billionaires should think about their insane tax break when working class folks are busting their asses for minimum wage. Yet so many people with obscene amounts of wealth DON’T so yes, I give Swift credit here. I think she’s a pretty good rich person, for the most part.

Having spent my professional life doing corporate events at restaurants etc…the BEST line of defense is tipping & being KIND to your service staff…the goodwill it builds is PRICELESS ❣️

Taylor is absolutely right if she’s thinking tipping can buy you love ( and lockdown on gossip) I bartended for 10 years at a highly popular night club. The swiftest way to get bad press was being a shitty tipper ( looking at you, KU fans👀 )

    • Angie says:

Sat next to a KU fan at an airport bar during early rounds of March Madness, intensely focused on the game & refusing to order anything until the bartender said order or leave so he ordered iced tea. Eyes never left the tv. So this rings true but then again I’m a 3-time Mizzou grad. Anyway my brother serves in NYC & yes tipping keeps ppl happy so the only gossip is how well they tip. HRC tips 40% and Kelsey Grammar is an ahole. Steve Harvey & his fam are fun, high maintenance but wonderful.

In my experience waiting tables during college, rich people were the WORST tippers. So good for Taylor for tipping generously here.

I also like that she’s doing it herself — other rich people have their assistants do this kind of thing.

    • Christine says:

Agreed, I think it’s awesome that she does it herself. It removes the vibe some celebrities have where they want a middleman to interact with the normies.

    • Justjj says:

I worked at an upscale restaurant in college ($$$ entrees and $$$$$ bottles of wine) and I would cringe when it was a couple of old white guy who ordered a few bottles… the higher the tab, the worse the tip generally. Money can’t buy class and decency.

Very cool of Taylor! I bet those workers really appreciate her generosity, those larger tips go really far especially when in a team service business. Right now I’m working in a restaurant where it’s a tip share, this is the beginning of my third week. This past year, I’ve worked in spas, catering, restaurants and am learning the new practices- many places do not give you a cut of the tips if you’re still inside of the company’s ‘training’ period (which they set), while many other businesses amass the cash tips given daily into their tip shares, dole the funds out to the employees on a weekly or other basis as determined by the employer. Employers set the policies, so those employees may not be taking that 100 bill home with them (I’m not informed of that employer or venue’s policies) – making them unable to buy holiday gifts or gas or food for their own dinners on their ways home as was traditional in tipped industries for years- this was a big help for we the working pours. I truly appreciate Taylor Swift’s generosity, it’s very kind of Taylor to share her wealth and energies. 💕

Ok, so being in an NFL owner’s suite during a game means the food and drinks are all provided (have experienced this), so I am really confused about why she had to have food brought in. (Not against it, just ???) I mean if you are an owner and providing food, you would also find out what your Super VIP guest (Taylor) likes. Though, TBH, depends on the owners: some do sushi and gourmet food, and others are like, be happy with hot dogs, french fries, etc.
But huzzah on her ordering food and generously tipping the runners!

    • Cecil says:

Well, someone has to bring the food to the suite initially and during the game if other items are requested! The swinging doors make it look like she’s in the food prep area in the stadium, not the box, so maybe she made a trip down to thank the workers.

    • Eurydice says:

I think “brought in” means physically bringing food from the kitchen into the suite, not brought in from an outside establishment.

    • lucy2 says:

I wondered this too – I’ve been in a suite a few times at various venues and the food was all there and ready each time, but maybe she wanted something else? Or just tracked down the people working there?
Whatever the situation, good for her for spreading the wealth. She’s pretty much printing money at this point with her sales and tour, glad she at least gives a lot away. I’m sure everyone there really appreciated it.

  8. NashvilleGirl says:

Side note- she also just gave a $1 million for tornado relief in Nashville. Storms came through last Saturday and she made the donation within a few days.

  9. Anon says:

OMG I wonder if Dunkin” has seen her with their coffee cup in hand! Seeing Taylor at Gillette at Christmas with her Dunkin’ is the gift I needed this Christmas week! I’m some ways, it’s too bad she isn’t dating a Patriot! In others, better for traffic!

$100 is probably the right amount for Taylor to be tipping, if she can afford it.

It’s kind of funny that she looks like she’s trying not to let the dog out while she’s tipping through the door here.

Many service industry workers in hospitality make more than office workers now, at least in some areas. It’s not $2.00/hour for bartenders and $5.00/ hour for waiters anymore. They’re making over $50k/year, which is good that the compensation is higher for their hard work.

Is it a little weird that this is the picture on her official tour twitter? Maybe she just wanted to remind everyone to be generous this holiday season.

    • Laura says:

I don’t think that’s her official tour Twitter, if you look at the rest of their tweets they’re just a fan. Since Elon took over anyone can buy themselves a checkmark and look official, but the check is pretty meaningless now.

From 2004-2014, I worked in a corporate office for a Michelin Star chef/restaurants in Las Vegas and the banquet servers/food runners for events made $20.00/hr plus tips!

  11. Mei says:

This is cool. I’d love to be able to tip big, whichever country so good on her. It’s no problem for her so it’s good to pay it forward.

Here in the UK it’s not a must to tip as you’re right, people are typically paid a living wage, so it ranges depending on the people. People more typically tip if it’s a sit down restaurant, at a minimum people round up the bill if they’re paying cash. I find it’s less likely people tip when paying by card. Also, if paying by card more difficult to know if the tips go to the servers.

  12. K says:

The service industry was my livelihood as a young woman. We worked hard and it’s great when people show the love.

  13. Miranda says:

My nephew’s boyfriend used to work at a restaurant here in NYC where Taylor was a regular, and he said that she was one of the most generous celebrity customers they had, as well as being very polite (as opposed to a few other celebrities he tattled on, who also tipped well but apparently thought of it as purchasing the right to be rude to staff). His first encounter with her involved bringing a replacement for a dropped fork while her primary server was preoccupied, and she actually tipped him just for that.

  14. phlyfiremama says:

It’s awesome, all in all a cheap price to pay for positive press and gaining even more fan love. Also, it’s a smart move because you KNOW servers of all types will be falling all over themselves to help her, knowing they will be rewarded. This is a win/win situation, and I personally applaud the acumen of this big tipping.

  15. Newt says:

I would think that being a generous tipper = no stories and shitty tipper = loose lips. Seems pretty simple. If I were a celebrity, I’d tip generously even if the service was crappy.
