Queen Camilla is unfazed by her ‘hatchet job’ portrayal in ‘The Crown’

While King Charles and Prince William regularly rage about all things involving The Crown, Queen Camilla has always tried a different tack. Camilla has been open about watching The Crown, and she’s met several people involved with the show, including Emerald Fennell (who played a young Camilla in seasons 3 & 4). In turn, The Crown has always been decidedly soft on Camilla. Peter Morgan never showed Camilla briefing reporters about Charles and Diana’s marriage, or publicly gaslighting Diana over her mental health. That being said, even the “softer” treatment shows that Camilla was a piece of work – jealous of Diana, unwilling to stop sleeping with Charles, eager to befriend and manipulate Diana, involved in the machinations behind-the-scenes, especially with Mark Bolland. The reason Camilla hasn’t taken a bigger hit with her portrayal in The Crown is, hilariously enough, because Camilla is already deeply unpopular and always has been. Well, please allow Richard Fitzwilliams to try to put a bow on this.

Queen Camilla is unfazed by “hatchet job” of her portrayal in the latest season of The Crown. Some could be made to believe that highlighting past events involving the now-Queen could affect her popularity ratings, due to reliving the moments where her popularity wasn’t as good as it is now, but royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes that her popularity will not be affected.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Fitzwilliams says that Queen Camilla’s latest portrayal in the sixth and final season, released by Netflix on Thursday, will likely not “have much effect” on her ratings at all.

Mr Fitzwilliams added: “I doubt that this will have much effect on Camilla’s rising popularity ratings.”

Despite this, he added that the series, and in particularly the latest season, is a “huge embarrassment” for both Camilla and King Charles.

He said: “The Crown has undoubtedly been a considerable embarrassment for Charles, whether as Prince of Wales or as King and also for Camilla.”

Pick a lane, Dick. Either she’s unfazed because of her rising popularity, or The Crown will leave her hugely embarrassed. It can’t be both. I think Camilla probably is unfazed – she knows she’s unpopular and she simply doesn’t care. She’s being propped up in more ways than one, mostly by the loyal old-guard media figures. She has long-standing arrangements with many media outlets, journalists, biographers and commentators. Instead of working to win people over, Charles and Camilla are content to simply pay people to rig popularity polls and tell them what they want to hear.

  1. Oh the jokes they tell “her rising popularity “🤣🤣🤣. Of course she is unfazed because she got what she wanted and she doesn’t care what people think. She is an evil old nag who only cares about her gin and the oats in her feed bag.

  2. Brit says:

The royals are such phonies. All that hoopla last season and they helped effectively ruin the show because of said complaining. Camilla will always be one of the most infamous mistresses made wife and Queen since Anne Boleyn, lol.

  3. Tursitops says:

Meh, she’ll just down some more wine and move on with her day. She got what she wanted, so what does she care about the peasants’s opinions of her?

  4. Eurydice says:

Of course, she’s unfazed – if she was capable of feeling anything more than narcissistic ambition, then she wouldn’t have gotten to where she is now. A TV show isn’t going to change anything in her life – it isn’t going to make people love or hate her even more. At 76 years old, Camilla is what she is.

  5. Jais says:

She may be unpopular with the masses but she has a lot of power and money at this point so why should she care? I hope she does care though and I hope that it keeps her up at night😂. Trying to think how I’d like to see karma visit her. Having to put up with Charles is not karma enough when she has her own house.

    • Robert Phillips says:

She won’t worry. Because even if Charles passes. I don’t think William is smart enough to be King. And without Harry there he is going to need someone to help him. Which Camilla could do. Plus Kate and her family will be long gone by then. This might already be happening with all the press about Kate and the Middletons right now. Camilla is helping Will get rid of her. And with Charles gone and her being able to manipulate Will. She won’t have to go out in public as much. And can just sit at home and drink and pull the strings.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Robert Phillips, what an interesting perspective and not something I’ve thought about. I’ll enjoy watching future machinations.

  6. Tessa says:

Camilla was depicted worse on season 4. In season 5 and 6 she was the brave woman who was criticized. I was appalled at season 5 and 6 where Diana was not depicted well. Charles proposal scene with Camilla was sickening imo

  7. murphy says:

At this point she doesn’t care about that anymore–she’s Queen. She made it. All of that was just to make sure Charles would be allowed to make her Queen. So now she is, the rest be damned.

Exactly. As long as she has the press behind her she has nothing to worry about.

  9. Ann says:

One point of view is that Camilla “won” because she is Queen. I look at it differently – The title of “Queen” means little to nothing now, because if a woman like Camilla can be a queen, well, ugh.

    • Tessa says:

Camilla was not chosen by Charles to marry and be the mother of his royal children. Diana was chosen. Camilla s children will possibly get titles but they cannot be in line of succession. If Charles predeceases Camilla I think she will more or less retire. I don’t think William and kate like her and she does not like them. I think it rankles with Camilla that Diana was chosen to be the mother of Charles heirs.

  10. LeonsMomma says:

The Crown totally soft-pedaled Camilla the last season. If I heard Camilla profess her concern and understanding for William and Henry I wanted to scream. I like the actress who portrayed her (She was fantastic in “Rushmore”) but I think Emerald Ferrall did a better job (and the part was better written) in the earlier episodes imparting her deviousness.

    • Lurker25 says:

Same! I kept turning the screen off on frustration. Like Camilla ever gave a shit about Diana’s son’s! She turned Harry’s bedroom into her closet the second she moved in!

Who did she pay for such a glowing depiction??

I can’t stand season 5 and 6. I’m old enough to remember in real time and this rewriting of recent history is appalling.

  11. Nic919 says:

No one has a better glow up in the Crown than Camilla, especially in the later seasons. It’s insane to call this a hatchet job.

  12. MsIam says:

So unfazed that the Palace has been whining and complaining about The Crown for the past two years. Didn’t they even drag Judy Dench into the mess, although I guess she and Camilla are best buds. No accounting for taste in friendships. Anyway, the worlds first Horse Queen can rest easy in her stable tonight, I’m sure people’s opinions of her have completely changed.

  13. MinorityReport says:

I find this article, and the final season of the Crown, gaslighting AF.

Camilla was portrayed incredibly well in the final season and as if her one and only concern was “the boys” and encouraging Charles to be a more emotionally available and hands on father AND WE ALL KNOW THAT IS A LIE.

  14. QuiteContrary says:

I don’t know about the so-called hatchet job, but Camilla has a hatchet face. Ugly, inside and out.

  15. Tessa says:

The last episode had several people calling c and c the great thirty year love story . That is directly from Charles spin team. Camilla was married for many years to another man and had his children. Charles had many women in his life and allegedly proposed to two other women who turned him down. He had that association with dale tryon. Charles also could not be faithful to someone who had a husband

  16. Laura D says:

All you have to do is look at the lack of whinging and whining from CH and BP to know that the writers had been “got at” for the final season. There was very little outcry before the final season aired and even less when it was shown. If I hadn’t read Spare I would have believed that she genuinely cared for those two boys. However, we know she had very little to do with Harry and couldn’t wait to turn his bedroom into a walk-in wardrobe. There was no “hatchet job” done on Camilla in the final season, just a complete re-writing of history.

  17. Mary Pester says:

Hatchet job to go with the hatchet face, and it’s a face well earned. I was flipping through the channels the other evening and I came across one trying to “whitewash” Charlie and camzillas past history. They made the big mistake of saying “and here’s prince Charles riding out to hounds a week before his wedding to Diana Spencer”, and low and behold in the shot was camzilla riding her own horse!! Yeah it was still going on. Then I remembered the story of when Charlie fell off his horse “settle down, I mean his 4 legged one 🤣) and, while he was at the hospital camzilla had to be smuggled out of the back door, because Diana had arrived to be with his royal bastardness!

  18. MyCatLovesTV says:

If I were an aristo and the stereotypical smile of my class was a horrid pulling back of my lower jaw & chin, I would spend my lifetime NOT smiling that way. I look at Camilla and think of Monty Python. (Yes, I’m that old.)

  19. J.Ferber says:

Bitch is like a Mack Truck. Nothing will bother her; she’ll just bulldoze it down. Horrible woman.

  20. bisynaptic says:

    Yikes.

  21. Saucy&Sassy says:

KHate could take lessons from the Escort on how not to work.

The Crown seems to be a sell out. I haven’t watched seasons 5 and 6, and I’m not sre I want to. I was an adult when Diana married, divorced and died. I know what KFC and the Escort did to her. There is the Andrew Morton book for history along with the interview. I doubt that will stay out of the public domain forever, besides the manuscript is out there on the web.

I think this is to fool the younger generations. What’s interesting is that the younger generations seem to have good critical thinking skills. They’ll fool some people, but not all or even most of them.
