Eden: It’s ‘unfair’ to put pressure on Prince William to make peace with Harry

One of the royal side-stories which didn’t get much attention this week is the gossip that Princess Beatrice possibly visited King Charles once or twice at Clarence House following his cancer diagnosis. Royal reporters insisted that Beatrice simply lives close-by, at an apartment in St. James’s Palace and that sightings in the area don’t necessarily mean that she visited Charles. Except that Richard Eden slipped that into his latest Daily Mail column, that Charles spent less time with Prince Harry than he did with Beatrice. Fascinating. I have no idea what that means, only that two redheads made a point of seeing Charles in person, all while Charles’s bald heir hasn’t bothered. Here’s more from Eden’s column:

The mounting pressure on Prince William to hold out an olive branch to Harry is ‘grossly unfair’, according to The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor, Richard Eden. The news of the King’s recent diagnosis with an unspecified form of cancer has led to calls from some commentators for William to make the first move towards a reconciliation – despite the criticisms of the Royal Family made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Writing in the latest edition of his Palace Confidential newsletter, Eden says such expectations are both unrealistic and wrong-headed.

‘Harry and Meghan’s behaviour over recent years has been appalling and will have scarcely helped the mental health of the Royal Family members they have betrayed and traduced,’ he says. ‘From what friends of William and Catherine tell me, Harry would need to make a heartfelt apology to them before they could even start the process of rebuilding relations.’

On hearing the news that his father was unwell, Prince Harry issued a statement on Monday that he would be flying to see him. This, says Eden, was done ‘with almost indecent haste.’

He continues: ‘the bulletin came scarcely half an hour after Buckingham Palace had announced that King Charles was suffering from cancer and had begun treatment. Prince Harry’s statement provoked countless articles this week urging the Prince of Wales to use the opportunity of his brother’s visit to mend fences, for the sake of their father…It soon became clear, however, that Prince William had “no plans” to see Harry, who left Britain after just 24 hours, having paid to stay in a hotel rather than sleep in one of the many royal residences in London.’

‘The King met Harry at Clarence House for little more than half an hour. This was, I can reveal, less time than His Majesty spent with Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, the previous day. To me, the pressure on William to welcome his brother back into the fold seems grossly unfair.’

[From The Daily Mail]

In case you haven’t picked up on it, everyone in the royal media apparatus understands how bad the events of this past week look to outsiders. The dutiful spare, flying fourteen hours to spend a moment with his beloved father, a father who then refused to give his loving son a spare room in the palace for a night. Side-by-side with an heir who is lazy, wrathful, childish, violent and petty, an heir who refuses to see his father face-to-face following the cancer diagnosis, an heir who was only convinced to leave his undisclosed location out of jealousy and hatred for his brother. The fact that Eden confirms the Beatrice gossip is fascinating to me as well. Watch this space, I guess.

Bahahaha! Loving the inebriated-looking photos of William here Kaiser!

  2. Cessily says:

Peggy’s whining crybaby brigade is out again I see.

  3. BlueNailsBetty says:

Who expects William to fix the rift with Harry? Who?

That might be the only thing derangers and squaddies agree on: no one expects William to lift one finger to fix the rift.

    • Jais says:

I’m thinking there’s some talk and pressure from within the rota. A lot of them do want Harry back more and see William as the biggest obstacle to that. I think Eden is essentially talking to his peers with this one.

  4. olivia says:

‘with almost indecent haste.’ These people are delusional.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

“Indecent haste” to visit his cancer stricken father. How is that possible?

    • Agnes says:

Harry took the window he had to see his pa before Invictus (and the surprise NFL award appearance.) The BM’s coverage of H is a class in how to try to turn anything good and decent into something suspect. They Fail, ofc. Also, William doesn’t GAF about anything except the next large tumbler of gin (see pic no.1). He is not working with a full toolset.

  5. Seraphina says:

Maybe the FK of E needs to get his rear to church because he will also be FH of CoE, and love, compassion and forgiveness is taught in the Bible. But we all know Wills cares nothing about that not being a hard working Royal.
    WHERE IS KATE?!?!?

  6. k.tate says:

Did this fool just say: “THE MENTAL HEALTH OF THE ROYAL FAMILY”?!?!?! TF? This reminds me of my ex. Whenever I used a term to name the type of abuse he hurled my way… he always tossed it back to me. Makes me so mad to read this.

    • Midnight@theOasis says:

I’m beginning to think these RRs are dropping bread crumbs about Kate’s condition. Yesterday it was “too much pressure re: work expectations” and today it’s the RF mental health.

    • First comment says:

I’m pretty sure that they are trying to blame Meghan and Harry for Kate’s health issues (that I’m convinced they are related to mental health problems).

Same! The way I see it, with Harry living the good life in California, Beatrice would be the next one in line to act as regent if both Charles and William abdicate. She might actually be up for it.

    • ShazBot says:

This is literally not how a line of succession works.

      • BlueNailsBetty says:

Snuffles is talking about being a regent to George not the actual act of being the monarch.

If there was a reason that a minor George became king then he would be appointed a regent. Normally, that would be Harry but Harry is no longer a working royal and he also may not be willing to sacrifice his family to be the regent. Beatrice would be the next logical person to be the regent for George.

      • Lady D says:

Maybe Harry showed up because Charles wanted to ask him to come back as regent for George?

    • roooth says:

Beatrice has wanted to be a working royal for years, and Liz & Chuck both said no. Now, maybe Chuck will decide to use her.

William and Kate still have their homes, patronages, security, and a press that’s eager to fluff them up and not mention anything that they don’t want mentioned. They aren’t being stalked, no one’s trying to figure out how much money they are spending on trips, lunches, suites at sport events or concerts. No one’s calling for them to be obliterated, demanding to see photos of their children, calling them selfish for the names they have given those children. How is their mental health under stress from Harry and Meghan? I don’t understand how you could possibly think that Harry and Megan need to apologize to them.

  9. YeahRight says:

Willy and Harry won’t ever be brotherly again because Willy refuses to see how wrong he was for trying to sabotage his brother’s relationship.

    • Puppy1 says:

Willie was never brotherly towards Harry. He was/is disparaging, demeaning, dismissive, violent and a sneaky backstabbing user.

  10. Sunday says:

I feel like we’ve turned a corner. Will’s pet “reporters” can rage and whine all they want; at this point it can’t negate Harry outdoing Will on the world stage in real time. Visiting Charles, winning court cases, surprise guest at prestigious awards, not to mention Invictus events next week – all that contrasted with obviously staged photos, racist gaffs, and drunken appearances. And it will only get worse because Will will continue to lash out at every Harry win and continue the downward cycle.

  11. Midnight@theOasis says:

“will have scarcely helped the mental health of the Royal Family members they have betrayed and traduced”

These gaslighting mutherfuc&kers need to stop. H&M fled to protect their own mental health after nonstop abuse by the BRF and BM. But yeah, go on with the constant twisting of facts. Incredible. SMDH

So was this article the price of receiving free dog food from James Middleton?

  13. Jais says:

But why hasn’t William visited his dad? Fr though. How bad are thing that Charles and William can’t even talk to each other? Are they fighting that bad?

    • sevenblue says:

Didn’t one reporter throw shade at Will that he can visit his dad easily too when Kate was allegedly in the same hospital? I think, they know something is wrong between them, but are not allowed to report it.

    • Jais says:

Yeah, I think Chris ship made that joke. I’m more like has it really gotten so bad that William and Charles aren’t even speaking to each other. Bc they’re not even reporting about fake meetups to make William look like a son who cares that his dad has cancer. Surely, he could visit him once? Or does Charles not want to see him?

    • BlueNailsBetty says:

William not visiting Charles is another reason I think Kate’s “illness” is a result of William’s raging temper. Charles would be angry that William hurt Kate and potentially brought shame and scandal to Charles’s reign and the royal family.

It would not surprise me if Charles demanded William get his sh!t together, get rehab and therapy, and stay gone until he could control himself.

      • Jais says:

I have no idea what’s up with Kate but it was reported that Charles and cam visited her in hospital. That’s one more visit than he has with William at this point.

      • yupyup says:

I feel Charles chose to protect the crown so he fed H&M to the RR but now he sees how very loved internationally Harry is and William did something horrible to Kate that now is endangering the crown and this is what Charles is making clear … “your tantrums no longer mean anything to me. I am king and I need to find away without you Will to have it survive”

    • Libra says:

It’s been reported that C and C saw her in the hospital. Not necessarily true. Would they lie to you?

  14. Rai says:

Since all the important things have been said, my uninformed opinion is that Harry dictated this trip. He wanted to see his dad, stare down the courtiers hovering by so they were aware he was watching, and bounced. I’m sure he chose to stay at a hotel so he could relax before his next appointment.

For all their bluster and disrespect, the rats know the truth. In the modern era, the BRF would’ve better off with a FK that moves like a mogul vs William.

  15. Over it says:

Ain’t no one checking for wank the incandescent eggplant. Harry doesn’t think about wank .wank should find a hobby .

  16. garrity says:

    Tinfoil Tiara time:

Charles proclaimed his diagnosis and leave form public work, Kate continues to be missing without any photos or voice messages to prove she is alive, conscious, and recovering, and William is mostly-absent and looking very poorly. KP communications have been dead air or rages about Harry. There really does seem to be something messy afoot that we are not being told (yet).

It seems possilble that this messy thing could somehow mean the Counselors of State who are not William might need to be called upon in some formal capacity. (William, we should recall, Charles has excluded from interim support duties, for whatever reason that appears not to be his need to wait upon his wife hand and foot, because he does not have that skill or inclination as far as we can tell.) As such, it’s possible that The Firm may have needed to get some variety of high-level legal paperwork sorted out. That would account for relatively immediate visits from Bea and Harry, for Charles’ willingness to give Harry an escort from Heathrow, and for the brevity of the meeting and Charles’ almost immediate skedaddle to Norfolk. (I also think, in fairness to Charles, it should be added that he’d just done a treatment round at the London Clinic on the same morning. If it was any form of chemo, he may have been anticipating a miserable set of side effects to kick in that very afternoon or evening, so that may also have accounted for the brevity.)

I am NOT, to be clear, breathlessly suggesting that Harry will somehow take the throne. We have no evidence yet that William is incapacitated and even if he were, there are three Wales kids with precedence – “Good King Harry” would never happen as a literal thing. But it could be that there are legalities in play that required an in-person signature or even an in-person verbal oath. And it would explain the sequence of events.

  17. Nerd says:

The main people putting pressure on him to reconcile with his brother are those desperate for material to write about or those who want Harry to be unhappy and back in the toxic environment so that William has his scapegoat back. They don’t care about their relationship. These are some of the same people who are desperate for the Sussex children to go to the UK to be with their “cousins”, “grandpa Charles” or be exposed to “their royal heritage” as if they give a damn about the Sussex children. We know they don’t care about the Sussex children because nothing they have said or done since before they were born has been anything close to what any loving family would do. They never even mention their names other than leak their displeasure with their names or their mother. They took their security and home away. They planned events on or around their birthdays. They have not once condemned the racists comments, attacks and threats directed at them and their parents (especially their mother) while they have gone out of their way to condemn racism in sports. They allow those racists attacks to remain on their social media accounts while removing any slights mentioned about any of the other royals. They have an agreement with the royal rota and other media who have made vile “jokes” and comments about these two children and their parents, yet no one in that family has said nothing against any of it. No family that loves you or cares about decency would allow what the royal family has allowed to happen (and contributed to) for the past seven years.

  18. Saucy&Sassy says:

I mut not be paying enough attention, but who is trying to get Wont to reconcile with Harry? I think this is all in the imagination of the bm.

” ‘From what friends of William and Catherine tell me, Harry would need to make a heartfelt apology to them before they could even start the process of rebuilding relations.'” I’m happy that they included KHate in this sentence, because she definitely has been part of the hate campaign.
