Britney Spears’ conservatorship extended

Earlier this month there was some buzz over Britney Spears potentially being released from her father’s conservatorship. Britney’s long tour went off with barely a hitch and she seems to be more in control of her life than ever. A judge ruled that the conservatorship would be extended, though. There is no set date but TMZ claims it will be six months to a year at least. Britney’s estate was also ordered to pay huge fees to various lawyers, as usual.

Britney is under both a personal, i.e. medical, and professional conservatorship, and from what I understand both have been extended:

It was an expensive day in court Tuesday for Britney Spears. In a Los Angeles courtroom Commissioner Reva Goetz ordered the co-conservatorship of Britney Spears to continue, with her father, Jamie Spears, to continue to receive $16k a month for his duties as conservator of his daughter.

Goetz also ordered the co-conservator of Britney, Andrew Wallet, to be paid $174,569.10 for services rendered from July 2009-November 2009.

In addition Goetz ordered Jamie’s attorneys to be paid $183,918 and attorney Joel Boxer to be paid $62,965.06. Another law firm was ordered to be paid $50k. Jamie Spears was also allowed to continue to receive $1200 for office space.

Samuel Ingham, the court appointed attorney for Britney Spears, said in court that, “She [Britney] accepted the accounting as filed and had no objection to it.”

Other housekeeping issues concerned continuing to seal all medical and certain business transactions because of “trade secrets” and the commissioner also increased the bond for the conservatorship from $1 million dollars to $25 million. Bond is similar to insurance in conservatorship cases, so if anything were to happen to Britney’s money she would be covered and reimbursed.

The next court hearing is scheduled for January 14th. Fees for Laura Wasser, Brit’s legal ace divorce attorney will be dealt with at that time.

Things have been running smoothly for Britney since her father took over. It’s been almost two years since her huge breakdown and she seems back to normal. Honestly, I didn’t expect her to be able to complete her tour, which ran from the beginning of March to the end of September with only a couple of one-month breaks. She also did 14 dates in Australia last month. Apart from yelling that her “p*ssy was hanging out” and getting slammed for lipsyncing in Australia without providing a live video feed for the audience, we haven’t heard many complaints about her tour. She only missed one gig due to an issue with the promoter. Sure she lipsynced and strutted around, it’s what she does. Sadly she may have to do it for a while in order to continue to pay huge lawyer bills, child support payments, and staff. At least she seems happy. Well, sort of.

Oh my goodness, what will COURTNEY LOVE have to say about this!!!!! Dun-dunnnnnn….

  2. Green is Good says:

It’s ridiculous her dad is getting paid that much to look after his DAUGHTER. Isn’t that what a Father is supposed to do? Granted, Brit’s a handful to deal with, but not 16K per month’s worth.

  3. Megan says:

@Green Is Good, I think he is being paid because he was no longer able to carry on his regular job while doing this for his daughter…he doesn’t strike me as a greedy guy so I assume that’s all there is to it.

  4. Alicia says:

Green is good…yea that’s what a father is suppose to do. But he also gave up his job to take care of his daughter and be there for her. He’s doing everything he can/is able to in order to ensure his daughter gets her life back.

Whatever he’s doing is working for her. Don’t know why they need to continue paying lawyers hundreds of thousands of dollars, but at least she’s calmed down and is no longer a danger to herself or others.
I know he’s given up his other job (which was what?) to care for her, but I can’t imagine my dad charging me nearly $200K a year. I can see covering expenses, but you figure she probably already bought him a house, car, etc, so I can’t imagine he has the standard bills most of us do.

  6. Alicia says:

Lucy2, I think her dad was a chef before this.

Her father may be ridiculously overpaid at approx $200K a year but then so is she. Look at how much she makes a year. All she does is pace back and forth across a stage stopping occasionally to wave her arms around while her CD plays. Her backup dancers work harder then she does. I wonder how much they make. It ceased to be his job to look after her 10 years ago. She’s coming up on 30. She’s a sad case but I have trouble feeling sorry for her.

  8. BrownEyedGuy says:

Oh shitney…what are we gonna do with you?

  9. BitterBetty says:

Whatever mental illness she has, I hope that judge is making sure she’s getting the help she needs to regain her independence.

  10. Miss Thang says:

Why oh why can’t Britney get her damn hair in order!?!?
She’s been in this business a long time now and her hair is STILL a mess! Eventually you’d think she’d learn how to wash and brush that shit, or hire someone to do it for her every day!

  11. YT says:

Extending the conservatorship is a good idea IMO. She hasn’t had enough time to “heal”, and she may need supervision forever. Singing, dancing, and touring is what she enjoys, so it kept her busy, focused, and happy … and rich.

Her father quit work to be with her. Did he have his own catering business? I can think of several reasons for him to make the amount the conservatorship pays him, and he could probably get more. She is doing so much better under his care and protection, so he is worth every penny.

Lawyers always seem to make out like bandits.

  12. lucy2 says:

True, she rakes in millions even when she’s not doing anything. I guess in the long run, whatever goes to him is peanuts compared to all that.

I do think she has some sort of mental illness, so I agree she might need some sort of supervision for a very long time.

Recovering from the kind of breakdown that Britney had can take up to seven years for the brain to return to normal. She is dealing with a very serious case of bipolar disorder and she still doesn’t appear to be well. I’m sure her father wants her to be independent. The Britney that used to laugh, smile, dress well and joke with reporters and interview is gone. She is a shadow of her former self, her eyes look vacant. I hope in time she will return to her exuberant pre-breakdown self, but it is probably years away.

  14. KelBear says:

Im just going to be honest here. She used to be amazing looking with a great body but seriously…..I look much better than she does in that head pic!

  15. Anonandonandon says:

@KelBear: Let’s face it. Our celebrities are not aging well. Britney, Paris and Lohan look horrible for only being in their twenties. At least they all have their massive talent to fall back on.

  16. Raven says:

He ironic the that co-conservator’s name is Wallet–he’s the one who is making out like a bandit at more than double what Britney’s dad is making. I guess he’s there to keep an eye on the dad. I agree that whatever Dad is doing is working–work will help her to recover and will keep the money flowing in so if there is a time when she can’t work, she won’t be destitute.

  17. Truthful says:

I’m so glad that she is being looked after she needs it..

like a poster above stated, I hope that she is getting life coping skills, cause if not in the end-it will all go drown the drain.
