December 15, a date which will live in Cher infamy. For it was on that date that Cher declared on national television that she wouldn’t be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame now “if they gave me a million dollars.” The Hall was listening, because two months later they made a peace offering and nominated her. No comment from Cher. And so the Hall of Fame called her bluff and officially made her an inductee last month. Then the million dollar question was, will Cher accept and attend the induction ceremony in October? After letting the tension build for a few weeks, Cher has confirmed her decision: she will deign to honor the Hall of Fame with the splendor of her presence as they honor her. And it sounds like she’s preparing a real humdinger of an acceptance speech:

The pop icon, 77, previously shared during a December episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show that she wouldn’t be “in it now if they gave [her] a million dollars,” affirming she was “never going to change [her] mind.”
At the time, she added: “They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
But in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on May 13, she revealed she will take part in the Oct. 19 ceremony after all.
She explained that the reasons she’ll be attending are due in part to music producer David Geffen and Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, John Sykes. “Well, I can thank David Geffen, my friend and the most wonderful person ever, and John Sykes.”
“I’m gonna have some words to say,” she added. “I’m gonna accept it in my Cher — as me.”
Oh, I do hope Cher gets up on that stage and tells the Hall of Fame to “you-know-what [to] themselves” right in front of them. What does she have to lose? She’s gonna “accept it in her Cher” and we’re all gonna be better for it! She could use her stage time just to make one of her yearly calls to Paul Giamatti and it’d be fantastic. She could strut up there — please be clad in Bob Mackie! — and say, “Thank you, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, for being strong enough to give me this honor after all. I believe you made the right decision, even if you cannot turn back time to do it right the first time. Cause bang bang, the beat goes on, so save up all your tears. Anyway, I don’t know what happened but I’m in the Hall now. Shoop Shoop.”
But no really, did the Hall of Fame pay her a million dollars?

BORGQUEEN, in the entertainment industry as a whole, of course you are right. In rock ‘n’roll, I’m not convinced. We will never know for sure. She was briefly married to Greg Allman but Cher’s variety show didn’t showcase the best musicians of the day by any stretch of the imagination.
ALL the variety shows of the 70s were bad. I see your Cheez Whiz and raise you Qiana prints, Aqua Net, and Mary Quant Cosmetics.
Those shows were very 70’s and very popular. No demerit points taken at all.

You mean the variety show that had David Bowie, Tina Turner, Art Garfunkel, Elton John, Gregg Allman, Linda Ronstadt, Marianne Faithfull, Ray Charles and others as guests? Yeah, by any stretch of the imagination not the best musicians, I guess.

Huge Cher fan here forever. I hope she has plenty of words to say at her induction because I will love every minute of it.
